The immediate past spokesperson of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh, has again offered to refund to the Nigerian government, the N400 million he received from the office of the National Security Adviser in the build up to the 2015 general election.
Mr. Metuh, who is facing trial at the Federal High, had said he did not know that the money given to him by the ONSA, when Sambo Dasuki was NSA, was meant for arms procurement.
He said former President Goodluck Jonathan gave him an assignment and ordered for the release of the funds to him.

Speaking through his lawyer, Emeka Etiaba, on Thursday, Mr. Metuh said at the time the money was released to him after his presentation to the ex-president, he had no knowledge of the source.
“Our client had every cause to believe that the money was from the ex-President to whom he made presentation, received directives and rendered report and accounts accordingly,”Mr. Etiaba said.
The lawyer said when the matter first came up and Mr. Metuh was invited to the Office of the National Security Adviser in December 2015, he requested to know the source of the money and expressed his readiness to make refunds if it was from government coffers, not minding that the money had been expended as directed by the former President.

“Officials at ONSA never got back to him as they promised, until his arrest by the EFCC in January 2016,” he said.
He also said it was while in court that a document was brought regarding the source of the money and since then, the former PDP spokesperson has made manifest “his willingness to refund the money and has indeed approached his family, friends and associates to mobilize funds to refund the entire N400 million to the government regardless of the fact that the money had been expended based on the directives of the former President and that part of the money had been recovered from one of the prosecution witnesses”.
Mr. Etiaba said he had been in talks with the Ministry of Justice, the EFCC and other necessary bodies on how to refund the money and resolve the issue.
“Our client occupied no government office. His commitment and dedication to his official duties have been confirmed by even prosecution witnesses.

“In this whole saga, he has been an unfortunate victim of circumstances. His refunding the money therefore goes to show his support for the anti-corruption war as well as serve as a testament to his sincerity, integrity and honesty in this matter.
“It is pertinent to restate our client’s continued support for the anti-corruption campaign, which is necessary to ensure probity in the affairs of Nigeria to the extent that it is conducted within the rule of law,” he said.

Profile and Biography of Edebiri Solomon

He was the revelation during the 2012 governorship election debate organized for candidates. His policy plans and what he would do to bring the state out of the woods when elected then endeared him to the people of the state. But then, he had contested the election under the platform of the now defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a party that was not so popular in Edo State.
He however came third in the governorship election that was held that year on April 22.

He led the Edo ANPP group into the merger with the ACN and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to form the APC. He joined the PDP in 2014 after complaining that only the ACN group was running the show in the new APC. Edebiri has never occupied political office before; hence, he is seen as a “decent” politician. Buoyed by the outcome of that election, Edebiri has once again thrown his hat into the Edo State governorship ring for the July, 2016 election.

President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday, said like every human, he can fall ill. The President made the admittance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja enroute London, United Kingdom for medical attention on his ear.

Recall that the State House had on Sunday night announced that the President was ill and needed to see his Doctors in a London hospital to attend to his ear. While departing Nigeria, the President who spoke to Journalists said he had also communicated the National Assembly about his trip.

He said: “I have already told Nigerians that I am going for 10 days to get my ear checked. The National Assembly knows, they have been formally informed.

On how to calm the tension of a President falling sick the President answered “is there anybody that doesn’t fall sick?” But on another breath, the president special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina who accompanied the president to the airport denied that the president was not sick.

He said that the president was taking 10 days off and would see his doctors abroad. “The buzz going round town is that the President is “ill”, but “ill” will be a misnomer. It should not be the right word to use. “The President is going for a 10 day rest and during that period he will see specialists who will look at his ear because he has been treating that ear locally for sometime. “Nigerian physicians have looked at it and now they have said you are going to UK, now that you will be there let specialists look at the ear.

They have treated it locally so it is not a question of whether the President is ill. If he is ill, it presupposes that there are certain things that he cannot do. “Till the very last minute that he is traveling, the President performed the duties and functions of his office as the President. “So illness is not the issue but as a human being, yes, he can rest. He has been President for one full year.

You know that in February, he took 5 days leave. He is taking another 10 days now that means 15 days leave in one year. “You and I take more than that. So, it is natural that the President as a human being is taking 10 days rest but he is not ill. “We need to underscore that. Rather than going into a frenzy, I will urged Nigerians to just show goodwill and patriotism. They should pray for him and wish him well. Things about health, life and death are in the hands of God. But I believe that all is well with out President and God will take care of him and take care of the country”, Adesina said.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DEPLOYS ADDITIONAL AIRCRAFT TO SOUTH-SOUTH REGION IN SUPPORT OF "OPERATION PULO SHIELD"

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed additional aircraft to the Niger Delta in support of the military operations code named “OPERATION PULO SHIELD” against militancy, economic sabotage and all forms of criminalities in the South-South region of the Country. The deployment was necessitated by the recent spate of attacks on the Nation’s oil and gas installations by the new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). The additional platforms, comprising fighter aircraft, helicopter gunship and surveillance aircraft, are intended to enhance the capability of the NAF to undertake offensive air operations and intelligence gathering in support of the surfaces forces. Since the recent deployment the NAF has increased air operations around critical infrastructure in Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States. These include but not limited to Escravos, Forcados in Delta State; Bonga oil field, Agbami offshore and Brass in Bayelsa; Bony in Rivers; Qua Iboe Terminal in Akwa Ibom State, and Opuekeba in Ondo State.

Meanwhile, the NAF wishes to urge members of the public not to panic at the sight of low level flying aircraft but to go about their legitimate businesses. The NAF also enjoins any member of the public to avail it or other Security Agencies with useful information about the where about or activities of the militant group.
