sagaciousblog: i have been to most of the top notch western schools like ui, oau, ilorin et all and i can tell u none of them is as fair and transparent as uniben...uniben post d.e is just piece of cake with majority English bt dat doesnt mean every applicant wud be admitted o.the choice is urs

At this point, what I need is a very detailed info on any school I would be considering, PREFERRABLY from someone who has been in my shoes _.someone who is a graduate of the school or has applied for DE to the school or any other school. & to think that you didn't even assume that I should know that it's not every applicant that would be admitted. Nawaa 4 u o!

sagaciousblog: Although u wud say ui has no catchment..i beg to differ cos dats only in theory..check any of their admission list and tell me the first 20 or 30 names if they are nt Westerners. firstly, in uniben you write d.e exam and once u r above d cutoff, u r sure of admission, does ui write entrance exam?if no, den its based on luck thus gamble..secondly, uniben distributes admission witout ethnic or tribal sentiments.. just go to any department in uniben n u wud see igbos, yourubas delta et all and in some cases, the edos are usually minority in class..lastly, i tink if u can obtain such cgpa in ur first degree, then passing uniben d.e exam shud be nothing to u...you can also check out dentistry and dental surgery sha..

Sagaciousblog, I myself don't know if UI keeps to their no catchment policy, but if you're basing your assertion on the fact that there are more Yorubas in the school than any other tribe, I'd say you consider that the school is in the West & it's only natural for people to apply for admission to schools that are close to them, & Yoruba is a pretty large tribe. As for UNIBEN having more students from Igbo etc, remember Edo is just one state, & the state is close to the Igbo states, so you'd have many Igbos applying to study there. This is same as UNIPORT. In Edo, Lagos & Rivers states, you find that the common language of communication is pidgin, so you'd find people from other states applying to UNIBEN, UNILAG & UNIPORT where they won't have that language & custom constraint when relating with the university community & the indigenes, the reason you find all tribes in these schools in almost equal proportion. This is unlike in Oyo & some other states in the West where they speak Yoruba even in formal settings. People are more comfortable relating with one of their own. The school having more of Yorubas than any other tribe is not a very tangible reason to say that they don't keep to the no catchment policy. No. You sef reason am.

How is UNIBEN's post DE exam, pls? What is it based on? To tell u the truth, one of the reasons I applied to UI is because they don't write a DE entrance exam. E don tey when I drop all those physics, chemistry etc o! To come dey read those subjects again tire me. & if maths is part of the exam, na there e be 4 me. I no sabi maths at all.

Whew! That's, u sent 2 transcripts? 1 for MBBS & the other for MSc? How easy was it for you? That transcript aspect ws the most challenging 4 me. It cost me a lot 2 process & I didn't rest until I ws sure it had left my sch, I was on the neck of the person responsible for processing & posting it, & then I went 2 UI 2 confirm if it had gotten 2 them.

I didn't apply 4 Msc o! 1st of all, I didn't knw wat 2 do wit my course. 2ndly, if I were 2 apply 4 MSc, it wuld hv bn my course & my sch. As admission has ended 4 ds year, anytn abt any other application wuld hv 2 b till nxt yr. Bt if I still hv d motivation 2 apply again, it wuld still b mbbs, because urs truly is lukin at d marketability of any course he wuld b goin 4, u knw d Nigerian situation right nw. Afta 4 yrs studying a course & spending some time job hunting, one wuld hv had some experience 2 knw whch courses are marketable in d job market & whch courses are nt so marketable. I applied 2 UI because it's abt d only sch dt doesn't hv particular catchment areas, d whole of Nigeria is its catchment area, & it has d highest quota 4 mbbs of all schs, bt nw u see hw dey surprised us.

Parlegrandpa: Aftrnon peps, I was @ d department of mech. Eng dis mornin wit d HOD of d department and was told so many tins abt we waitin for d 2nd list. He told me dat d chances of gainin admission is very slim for some courses. U can ask me anytin u wish to knw

Gentleman, you can't possibly provide information on ANYTHING we wish to know, since you're neither a member of the administration nor the academia of UI. If you go ahead to say all what the HOD told you concerning the possibility or not of a second list, you would have helped a lot of people here. Or what do you think?

I became concerned when a select few were allowed 2 see that list days b4 it appeared on JAMB site. I haven't heard it b4 dt ppl culd go 2 offices to see an admission list b4 it is officially made public, especially when it's a school as UI. Dt action is questionable.

Recovered? Yes. Figured out the next move? No. 11 admitted students is just puzzling. I'm yet 2 understand hw ds year's admission ws carried out.
