Fellow Nairalanders I need a clear difference between this two posers.... What is the difference between 'Living a fake life' and 'Packaging'? What if I told you that 'Packaging' as used in this context and 'Fake-life' has no difference? What if I told you that 'packaging' in this context is a 'cover up slang' for fake life. If we are all against somebody or people living fake lives, then we should be against packaging. This is because the both entails being whom you are not. A friend of mine Miss Jules is of the opinion that living a fake life entails telling of lies while the other doesn't. But I disagree. Dictionary.com defined lies to be: 1. A false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood. 2. Something intended or serving to convey a false impression; imposture: I will not bother you with the dictionary definition of 'packaging'. It is simply a verb for the word package which no dictionary links it with the context of which it is used today by this entertainment generation. Using the definitions I garnered from my friends as a case study, I noticed this special kind of stress on the idea of fake life. Which shows that everybody hates people living fake lives but gives a thumb on packaging. It is almost a wise saying for us to hate packaging just as much as we hate fake lives. Because its either you are REAL or you are FAKE. In conclusion, if you postulate that packaging is cool, then you are guilty of living a fake life!!! I've been told by people that NAIRALAND is the Best place to get an answer. |

I came across this post and decided to share it, read and comment. The Comparison between Entertainment reality shows and educational shows: *Big Brother Africa(BBA) sponsored by Coca- Cola: $300,000(48m) *MTN Project Fame: N7.5 million and an SUV. *Maltina Dance Show: N10 million. *Etisalat's Nigerian Idol: N5m and multi- million naira contract. *Glo Naija Sings: N5 million and an SUV. *Gulder Ultimate search(GUS): N10m plus endorsements and SUV. ...BUT FOR EDUCATIONAL SHOWS... *COWBELL Mathematics competition: N100k *Lagos State Spelling Bee:N50k. *School Scrabble: N25k. *Cool-FM Spelling Game: A goodie bag filled with Amila drink. And someone is asking and wondering why there is so much failure in WAEC and JAMB? Soon, there will be a time parents will say, "Read your lyrics and make a hit song! Not read your books and make good grades". Some months ago we read a news when Miss Lagos was given a new car While the most Brilliant girl gets a Laptop. www.coougist.com |
Campus cults have become the most potent cause of insecurity in the institution of higher learning. It is elevating the challenges facing the average students to new and dangerous levels. Several reports showed that between 1997 to 2012 hundreds of students were expelled or suspended from their various institutions, while some were arrested and detained by law enforcement agencies and subsequently charged and prosecuted. However, there is no doubt that institution such as Bayero University, Kano , have uprooted this evil practice, thereby encouraging more students to enrol into the institution. Cultism in Nigerian institutions plays a major role in increasing the level of thugs’ activities among Nigerian youths. They damage public property deliberately without any fear because they believe that their association or group will protect them from any persecution that may befall them. Strange marks in the body of student also shows sign of membership of cults association, therefore, parents should take good care of their children. A cultist shows no respect to constituted authorities, because he always thinks that he can overpower everybody, that’s why you will see many people or students doing what they like at any place they like. Students, who lack the confidence to face the rigors and challenges of academic work, seek refuge from cult groups in order to obtain favourable grades through intimidation and blackmail of lecturers. These students lack the belief in their own ability to do things and be successful. But some parents don’t give good attention to their children. While their children bring home with them bad behaviours that the parents should investigate, they just turn blind eyes to them. On the other hand, some parents are working so hard to see that they persuade their children to shun cultism and violent acts in general. But since most of the students that are studying in tertiary institutions, most especially universities, are staying in the campus, they find it difficult to regulate the behaviours of their children. Lack of parental care and lack of monitoring contribute immensely to the existence of vices in the society. The reasons behind the involvement of some students into cult group are to avoid harassment and intimidation by other cultists and to be regarded as super stars or high flyers. Male cultists believe that no female student on campus can resist or refuse their love advances and some also erroneously believe that they must pass their examinations, whether they work hard or not. Of course, others join cult groups because they were officially asked to leave the institution, after all the sufferings they experienced and hard work from primary school to the higher institution. Cultist families are always in state of danger because at any time the member of that group can be requested to sacrifice one of his family members. Moral education should begin at home. In other words, the role of parents, especially mothers, is crucial in the proper upbringing of their children. Some young people pick up bad habits like smoking, alcohol consumption and promiscuous life styles from home. Children from broken homes are victims or particularly vulnerable in matters of this nature. The primary and secondary schools the boys and girls attend before they go to the university have a role to play in ordering the scale of presences of their students, too. It is advisable for all students, lecturers, parents and government to join hands in fighting this menace by working together to bring up worthy and morally upright children who would lead our country in the future. Gameup:All I see here are freaking d'banj fans, the truth is that when they both split into two we expected their challenge to be in the music scene but because one of them made the other what he is as a musician he couldn't establish himself as a SOLO artist, he wanted to be CEO like Don Jazzy with his useless Lee Family. In conclusion, all his music plans and label was null and void while Don Jazzy was Flourishing with better talents, the other diverted to business to establish himself. |
it was late in the night. I was in my half lit room, studying with my candle. For some reason, I felt a strange presence, like 'something' was hovering around but I wasn't going to be distracted, I had a lot to cover before the exams I was to have the next morning. I was seated on my plastic chair, my table faced to the wall, backing my door. Just then, I heard my door knob click and the door began to slide open, slowly. The door made a lazy yawning sound as it rolled on it's hinges. A gust of the chill uli wind blew in, troubling my candle light temporarily. Whoever or whatever had opened my door, wasn't about to close it and I wasn't about to turn around to find out who, either. I was bent over the table and had my eyes focused on my books. But at this time, truth be told, I wasn't really seeing any words in my books, only blank pages. People sometimes describe it as being calmly scared. "Thud!" Something dropped. I jerked. I grabbed my Nokia phone, turned on the torchlight and swung round to see who or what was disturbing my peace. I saw Ogute Godwin, my activist neighbour, had collapsed, he had his back to door, his legs spread apart and his head tilting to his left shoulders. His lips seemed to move, but I could not make out any words. He had embarked on a hunger strike to protest the hike in school fees. It was his day five (5) without water or food. All our pleading with him to go about his activism some other way had failed- he was a headstrong young man and had assured us solemnly: "I'm not backing down ever...I'm the captain who sinks with the ship!" It was a profound Martin Luther King Jnr moment! I rushed to him to see if he was alright. Maybe he had seen a ghost.he looked particularly pale. As I tried to take his right hand to check for a pulse, his hand suddenly clasped mine tightly and seemed to pull. I looked at his eyes, they held what I imagined would be deep messages from his soul. Godwin always had profound words. His lips quivered a bit, I knew he wanted to speak so I leaned in and put my ear close to hear his words. They were strained and lightly spoken in between pauses. "chike...A chick...that will grow into a cock, can be spotted the day it is born..." Then he seemed to fall asleep. I shook him and called out his name as he was slipping from consciousness. He came to, again and spoke. "I think...I have better ideas...on how to fight the authorities...Jesus already died for us all, no need for me to try to steal his glory, by dying. Kindly arrange gala and lacasera for me, abeg! |

Aluta is a word generated from Portugal and its meaning is generally understood by, at least, 90% of Nigerian universities’ students. Literally, it means “struggle”. But in the academic world, it comprises of constructs like: struggle for good performance, struggle for rights, and struggle for political recognition among others. Gone were the days when these strugglesvwere very active and interesting. Students then can go to any length in achieving a collective goal. There is no individuality when it comes to such struggle. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) was very active in opposing the then military and civilian heads of state, especially when they introduced a policy considered not in students’ interest or favour. In different institutions, there is the Students’ Union Government (SUG) or the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) as in the case of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. These bodies serve as the mouthpiece of students, through which they express their minds and feelings. Nowadays, the situation has changed. The bodies have, in many institutions, become unscrupulously weakened due mainly to the high level of corruption in all spheres of the country, including the education sector. Therefore, there is the need for the students’ bodies to return to the old aluta ways to protect rights of the students which are now, more than before, threatened by the retrogressive policies of the government. A student, identified as Julius (surname withheld) in Asaba, Delta State, who solely depended on passing his exams via miracle centres, allegedly poisoned the exam syndicate who was said to have introduced him to the miracle centre. Reports said that Julius, a dropout from one of the popular secondary schools in Asaba (name withheld), in his quest to make his school certificate and become a graduate, was said to have been introduced to the operators of the miracle centre who allegedly gave him a bill of N80,000 for both exams with 100 per cent assurance. But this was not to be when Julius who had reportedly lost both parents and has been living with an uncle, after selling off some of the properties to pay the bills, had the two results in F9s. It was further gathered that in the wake of the exams, the miracle centre operator who was alleged to be a ‘friend of the police, following his illicit and involvement in various crimes, was said to have enrolled over 60 candidates from Asaba and it's environs from where the state government through the task force on examination malpractices as well as miracle centres. The deadly Ebola Virus Disease has reportedly found its way to Spain after a nurse who treated a victim of the disease in Madrid tested positive for EVD. This was made known on Monday by the Spanish health minister, Ana Mato, who also revealed that the nurse is the first person in the current outbreak known to have contracted Ebola outside Africa continent, CNN reports. According Mato, the nurse was among the team that treated Spanish priest Manuel Garcia Viejo, who died on September 25, 2014, in the hospital Carlos III de Madrid after catching Ebola in Sierra Leone. The health minister said the woman developed symptoms on September 30, adding that she was not hospitalized until this week because her only symptom was a fever. “We are working in coordination to give the best care to the patient and to guarantee the safety of all citizens,” Mato said. The health official who assured that the nurse is in a stable condition as she had been admitted to hospital in Alcorcon, near Madrid. He said doctors have isolated the emergency treatment room because of the patient. He further revealed that the infection was confirmed by two tests. The health minister also disclosed that an investigation is under way to find everyone the nurse may have had contact with while contagious. Mato said there have been no other known cases so far. It would be recalled that another Spanish priest, Miguel Pajares, died in August after contracting the virus in Liberia. Ebola spreads through contact with the bodily fluids of someone who has the virus and the only way to stop an outbreak is to isolate those who are infected. There have been nearly 7,500 confirmed infections worldwide, with officials saying the figure is likely to be much higher in reality. Meanwhile, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia have been hardest hit by the outbreak. According to World Health Organisation, WHO, 3439 people have died of the virus while there have been 7492 confirmed cases so far. In a reaction to the current outbreak in the United States, the White House on Monday revealed that it is not considering a ban on travellers from affected countries although the state’s health officials had earlier said people arriving in the US from Ebola-affected countries in West Africa could be subject to extra screening at airports. If you re in ULI or Nearby, please stay away from their god, masquerade so that you won't share ma story. My name is Rising Chinweze and this is my story, Rising vs Uli masquerade. Drinking ma beer and thinking about what actually happen to me today . I Keep ASKING myself if it was mp fault.I Was on a bike going to TRACAS park this morning, I was waving hand to a friend while on the back of the moving bike and all I hear was a sound like thunder on ma head. Looking back was a masquerade. Did I do anything wrong that will make the masquerade to stretch his hand and hit me like that. My ear keeping ring making me to come down from d bike, Saying to his followers, omo y nah, that's how my day started. Before I could alter a word, here comes another one, again and again, now I can't hold the demon in me much longer, man got to do something. So I seize his cane, that's how I made d worst mistake of ma life. What was I thinking by coming down from d bike and blocking his cane but its already too late cos am bleeding. Several blows from his disciples, landing on me, am just one guy against some ULI YOUTHS. They were few but they keep multiplying and the hit keep rising. No one cares to know what went wrong, all they no is how can a stranger, a student for that matter to dare their god (masquerade) but they choose to call it god. What did I do to deserve this beating, I keep asking myself that but no one seems to care. It took some time for all to be calm, not that am free but at least the beating has stopped. I can hear some people pleading on my behalf but they don't mind if my heart gave up cos to them d penalty for defying a masquerade was death. Some has died for same reason, so mine won't be diff. Some said I should be set free but the vampires among them won't let me go. They said I will reach their square to sort things and appease to their gods before am free to go since I survived it. There comes another case cos I don't have much with me to buy ma freedom. I was taken taken to their square where my case was presented to d chiefs. They gave me a list, a goat, basket of hen, palm wine etc which is about 50k. Am left with 1300 for ma Transport fair so I told them that #1300 is all I could afford.. They threatened me a lot, telling me to call for help but I have nobody to call. I later sold ma phone which only fetch me 5k yet not enough. I pleaded in all way I could but they keep telling me to call for help as if they kept someone for me. Since I can't afford much, I was taken to their king whom set me free with lil fine.
