If Tinubu actually wanted Fubara gone, he would have been history by now. And he is not playing both, Fubara has nothing to offer Tinubu, absolutely nothing. This is something you should know if you really understand and have followed the president.
Intervening in the face off is more in favour of Fubara.

The only thing that can stop an impeachment is negotiation or State of Emergency.
And he is gone once the House reaches a 2/3 majority on the Article of Impeachment. Even if it's illegal, he will have to fight it in Court as an ordinary citizen.

This is a fight Fubara can't win, he started fighting too early. I'm not privy to the conditions he agreed with Wike before emerging as Governor, first time his name was even mentioned was when the EFCC were after him. No one knew about him, it implies Wike did everything, and as such the terms were steep.
Politics is always about compromise, and when you bargain from a position of weakness, you get a bad deal. Fubara would have waited, bid his time, gained enough grounds, especially in the assembly, political leaders before making a move on Wike.
From events, it can be assumed that every reconciliatory agreement is in Wike's favour, he's the one dictating the terms. And when it becomes clear to SIM what the implications are, he starts to renege.
But the question is why accept a deal you can't keep?
Politicians renege, no doubt about that, but they do it with power to go ahead regardless. RMK and Gov. Abba Yusuf is an example.
Tinubu mediated the last deal and he is privy to the terms, if Fubara is guilty of going against it, I doubt he will give him his support.

And one last thing, Impeachment is constitutional, nothing can stop it, except Tinubu is ready to declare another State of Emergency.

What agreement did this two people sign before the state of emergency was lifted?
From public data, SIM wasn't going to come for a second term, a controversial one, but he accepted it.

He has been making inflammatory remarks of late, and wike is one that doesn't back down from a fight.

My own opinion, both of them should be allowed to fight it out. Fubara has proven he is up to the task, which explains why he's taking decisions that will heat up the situation further.

If it turns out that Fubara is coming for a second term under APC, don't expect Tinubu to back him, that's not how he operates. Ambode's experience should have been enough clue as to what is going to happen, Fubara moving to APC is not a guarantee that he wins a second term.
He made a grave error by fighting Wike, less than a year into his administration, when he is yet to consolidate power.
I like stability, it enhances growth, policy continuation and unity within the state. Lagos is an example, it cost nothing in the end.
But on the other end, Godfatherism is not ideal, but yet again you can't get into government without the help of powerful people in Nigeria.
Learning how to massage their ego while you go on with your work is the best way, Kogi state looks like one for now.
