Business / Never Take A Loan From Loan Sharks, I Do Not Sleep At Night"- Lady Warns People by Ashlar(m): 6:36pm On Feb 27, 2022
A lady on Facebook is warning people not to borrow money from loan sharks. She says her life has changed after borrowing money and she thinks her days are numbered. This is her story;" Four months ago my baby was sick and admitted at the hospital. I have no financial support I live off by grant and selling things but since then the business is not going well. So I went to take R500 loan due to desperation from a loan shark which I failed to settle and paid little but interest kept going up.

I can't afford the whole amount and have been giving her excuses to pay. I do not sleep at night. I hear sounds in my bedroom window. Last night there was a figure of a tall slim girl at my bedroom door. I know she is hunting me and my days are numbered. She gave me one month to pay all her money. There is nothing I can do. A lot is happening and my daughter says she sees things at night. Please guys, stay away from those people, they are cruel."

According to the police, the accused used to buy wigs from Mumbai, and sell them in Nigeria, but the pandemic made him a drug carrier.

A 34-year-old Nigerian businessman has been arrested by the Anti-Narcotic Cell of Mumbai crime branch and 192 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 57 lakh recovered from him.

The accused has been identified as Okeke Chinonso Goodluck, 34, and currently a resident of Khairani Road in Marol.

According to the police, the accused used to buy wigs from Mumbai, and sell them in Nigeria, but the pandemic made him a drug carrier.

The police claimed that the suspect was supplying drugs to local smugglers across Mumbai city and its suburbs.

According to the police, the Kandivli unit of the ANC was patrolling the western suburbs areas on Wednesday, February 22, at around 1.30 pm, when the team found Goodluck’s movement suspicious.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (ANC) Datta Nalawade said they have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

He said the accused was produced in court and has been remanded in police custody.
Crime / Suspected Cultists Invade Funeral In Anambra, Kill 20, Desecrate Corpse by Ashlar(m): 6:34pm On Feb 26, 2022
Armed men suspected to be members of a secret cult on Saturday invaded a burial ceremony in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing about 20 persons.

Our correspondent gathered that it was the burial of a suspected leader of a cult named Ozo, and while the corpse of Ozo was lying in state in his compound, some suspected cultists arrived the scene and sacked mourners, shooting at them.

A source, who disclosed this to DAILY POST , said: “My sister was supposed to be at the burial. She and her friends had already prepared to leave Awka for Ebenebe, but the vehicle they booked to take them disappointed them.

“She and her friends were so unhappy, and they decided to go in search of another vehicle that can take them. It was in the course of going to the burial that they received a phone call that everybody at the burial had been dispersed by some gunmen.

“She also got a video from the scene, which showed several persons lying in pools of blood dead, while the corpse was desecrated, with the coffin lying far apart, while the corpse was sprawled on the ground.”

DAILY POST saw the video, with members of the community wailing, while corpses littered the compound.

The Anambra State Police command has confirmed the incident, saying that it was a case of cult rivalry.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who spoke to DAILY POST, said: “Yes, this morning (Saturday), there was an incident at Ebenebe. A burial was going on, when some people suspected to be cultists invaded the area and started shooting.

“I do not have details of casualties now, but I will keep you informed once the picture becomes clear.

“For now, the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng has despatch tactical squads comprising of various units to the area to maintain calm,” he said.
Politics / Inec Set Time Table For Next General Elections by Ashlar(m): 6:18pm On Feb 26, 2022
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday announced new dates for the 2023 elections, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.

The new date announced by the National Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu at a news conference in the Federal Capital (FCT), Abuja.

According to him, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, February 25, 2023, while governorship and state houses of assembly elections will hold on March 11, 2023.

Yakubu explained that the new date is to allow for conformity with the provisions of the Electoral laws which stipulates that elections notice be published at least 260 days to the elections.

Below is a full transcript of the chairman’s statement today;

“As you are aware, yesterday, Friday 25th February 2022, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria signed the Electoral Bill 2022 into law. This is historic being the fourth time since the restoration of democracy in Nigeria in May 1999 that the Electoral Act was repealed and re-enacted. The 1998 – 1999 elections were administered by transitional decrees until the 2001 Electoral Act was passed into law. Then, the Act was repealed and re-enacted as the Electoral Act 2002 which was in turn repealed and re-enacted in 2006, 2010 and now we have the 2022 Electoral Act.”

“You may recall that in 2017, the Commission decided to establish fixed dates for General Elections in Nigeria. This decision was based on our determination to create certainty in the electoral calendar and to enable all stakeholders in the electoral process (the electoral commission, political parties and candidates, security agencies, observers, the media etc.) to prepare adequately for elections.”

“By that decision, Presidential and National Assembly elections shall hold on the third Saturday of the month of February of each General Election year, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections shall follow two weeks later. Consequently, the 2023 General Election was scheduled to commence on 18th February 2023 with the Presidential and National Assembly elections, followed by the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on the 4th of March 2023. However, the Commission could not release the detailed Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the General Election, as it normally would, because of the pending enactment of the Electoral Act 2022. The Bill has now been signed into law.”

“Therefore, the Electoral Act 2022, together with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), form the legal basis for conducting all elections in Nigeria. In particular, the Electoral Act provides strict timelines for the implementation of electoral activities based on the date of the General Election. One ofthe significant timelines isthe publication of Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the day appointed for holding an election which has now lapsed for the 2023 General Election.”

“Consequently, the Commission has decided to adjust the dates of the 2023 General Election to ensure compliance with the provisions of the new law. Accordingly, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday 25th February 2023 while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold two weeks later on Saturday 11th March 2023. With this adjustment, the 2023 General Election is now 363 days away.
