Is he charging 15k for the gasket and his workmanship? If yes, pay and learn your lesson not to allow anyhow mechanic to open your engine.
However, ensure that he finish his job before paying him completely, cos some of the quacks don't know how to set the timing chain of the car.

Those mechanics are thieves. First of all, there are two kinds of gaskets. The original one (iron) and the normal one (paper). The normal gasket costs about 1500 to 2,000 while the original (follow come) gasket can't be more than 10k. I was a victim, my mechanic ended up collecting 10k from me telling me that he will buy the original gasket for me, at the end of the day, I discovered that he bought the one of 2k, pocketing 8,000 naira. Just like that. If you have chance, go to market and buy it yourself.

You can't believe what this Mechanic is telling me. After so many talks and negotiation, he insisted that his money is 15k and can't go lesser than that. The problem am having now is that he has opened the engine and the location where the car broke down is not good enough to just abandone like that.

But I doubt if I can pay him 15k after knowing that the cost of gasket is just 2k

I was driving my Camry today(Big daddy) then it stopped and I was told that it was overheating that caused it.

The mechanic said the gasket has demaged and it will cost me 30k.

Please share your thought on this, is it up to that?

I was turned down too. Didn't even get a link to the assessment and I think I meet the requirments for the most part. I am left wondering if they have other selection criteria besides what is published. I have a masters degree btw. Would that be an issue, you think?
