Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau vowed to disrupt Nigeria’s general election in a new video released Tuesday, after two suicide attacks in the Northeast blamed on the Islamists killed 38 people.“This election will not be held even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it,” Shekau said in the Hausa language, presumably referring to the polls scheduled for March 28. The video appeared to be the first message released by the group on Twitter, a sign of its changing media tactics after previous messages were distributed to journalists on DVD.Shekau was shown in unusual clarity in front of a solid blue background, dressed in black and with an automatic weapon resting to his right. He also claimed a weekend attack in the Northeast Nigerian City of Gombe, which the military says was repelled. The Islamist leader, declared a global terrorist by the United States and sanctioned by the United Nations, disputed the military’s account of the Gombe clashes, claiming that his fighters overran troops and freed insurgents from prison. Authorities of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna State yesterday said they discovered arms meant to cause chaos at the venue of President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election rally in the state. The Army also said children below voting age gained entrance into the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, venue of the rally, and booed party leaders. The representative of the Army Commander, 1 Division Internal Security Force, Brigadier General John Malu, disclosed this at a meeting with governorship candidates in Kaduna, adding that no political party can be exonerated of violence in Kaduna State. Speaking further, Malu said the Army seized arms from party loyalists during the recent PDP presidential rally while a number of vehicles were damaged during the APC rally. “During the APC presidential rally, many vehicles were damaged because they were not carrying the posters of some candidates. Again, I personally screened people entering venue of the recent PDP presidential rally and I discovered arms concealed under the clothes of people and seized a lot of them.” He added that during the elections, soldiers will not be stationed at polling units but at ‘‘strategic locations’’. http://dailypost.ng/2015/02/13/discovered-arms-jonathans-campaign-venue-kaduna-army/ |

Election Postponement Plot Thickens As 16 Minor Political Parties Endorse Shift Of Election Date, Threaten Boycott Of Polls. In a dramatic shift, 16 minor political parties on Tuesday threw their support behind some calls for the postponement of Nigeria’s general elections slated for February. The parties aligned their argument on the same lines being presented by pro-Jonathan groups, who fear they are about to lose the presidency, citing insecurity and distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Although they do not have much to lose in the process, they threatened to boycott the elections if their wishes were not heeded. The parties involved are: the United Democratic Party (UDP), Citizen Peoples Party (CPP), Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Action Alliance (AA), Peoples Democratic Congress (PDC) (ACPN), Labour Party (LP), (MPPP), United Party of Nigeria (UPN), Alliance for Democracy (AD), (ADC), (ACD) Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) and Independent Democrat (ID). Highly reliable security sources have told SaharaReporters that Nigerian military authorities are moving female soldiers based in various army formations in Maiduguri and other parts of Borno State to Abuja as the army anticipates a massive attack on Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, by terrorists belonging to Islamist group, Boko Haram. The sources said there was heightened apprehension about an impending attack, hence the decision to reassign female soldiers to Nigeria’s capital. The military action also stemmed from the death of five female soldiers and the abduction of another four by Boko Haram militants when they attacked a military base in Baga a few weeks ago. Abuja - All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari has revealed why he is not talking about President Goodluck Jonathan’s family, health and religion. Buhari said he is preoccupied with issues affecting the country than discussing personal issues. Writing on his Twitter handle, @ThisIsBuhari, Buhari said he is, however, worried with Jonathan’s desperation, anger and threats, noting that elections are not wars. He stated that it was a tragedy to see the President of this country talking about remembering phone numbers and coup speeches. He said Nigerians should be deeply worried that a President who called for calm during governorship elections has now lost his cool in his own elections. He reminded President Jonathan to remember that he is not only a candidate in the February 14 presidential election but also the President of Nigeria. Regarding the Boko Haram menace in the north, the cleric further acknowledged that it is a problem of the northern region of the country and more specifically the Muslim population. “Kanuris, Fulanis and Hausas are the Boko Haram," Gumi told SaharaTV. The government initially thought it was a northern problem, leave them let them kill themselves.” During this weekend’s SaharaTV broadcast, which kicked off the platform's 2015 Nigerian presidential election coverage, many of the most critical discussions were centered around not just the politics leading up to the contest, but the incessant Boko Haram militancy in the northern part of the country, a violence that has seemingly intensified in recent weeks. Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, one of Nigeria’s top Islamic clerics, known for his strong and often controversial opinions, spoke to Sahara TV at length about the insecurity crisis and its effect on the political landscape in Nigeria. Abuja - Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), said if elected, his administration would address the issue of Boko Haram insurgency to ensure security in the country. Buhari stated this on Saturday at the township square, Lafia, during his campaign rally in the Nassarawa state capital. “The fundamental challenges facing this country now are insecurity and the problem of economy - which are worsened by corruption. l pledge to tackle insecurity in the North-East caused by the Boko Haram sect.” “I assure you that we are going to finally assemble a competent team of Nigerians to efficiently manage the country. I am appealing to you; the damage done to this country is great.” “The level of unemployment, level of insecurity is intolerable. The journey has begun. It will take time, it will take patience, it will take support from you to make sure that we succeed.” “My administration will be poised to serve the people of this country judiciously, through improved healthcare delivery system, and quality education, to enable the citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy,” Buhari said. He said that his administration would provide good roads and other infrastructure. The APC presidential candidate, who noted that Nigeria was endowed with natural solid minerals, said his administration would articulate a plan to reposition the country’s mineral sector, which would enhance mining activities in the Nasarawa state. He said that mineral exploration was “a veritable tool for economic transformation” as it would create employment opportunities and diversify the means of income for the state, so that it would not be waiting for revenue from oil to develop. According to him, if given the mandate, his administration will also place high premium on the execution of developmental programmes to enhance the well-being of the populace. While advising other candidates not to see the race as a do-or-die affair, he said, “I have no reason to see the presidential ambition as a war, because I am not fighting for myself but the interest of the people of this country.” In his remarks, Buhari's running mate, Prof Yemi Osibanjo, urged Nigerians to vote for the party’s presidential candidate as well as its gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Umaru Al-makura. Osinbajo also appealed to them to protect their votes. #FEBUHARI14 #BUHARICANCHANGE |

“Don’t leave the party because you are aggrieved, No. we have to stay together. The tenure of any office – whether it is the state assembly, Senator, House of Representatives member lasts four years. After that four years if you feel your were not treated well, it may be you turn. Probably, we didn’t give you higher office to run, stay we can carry ourselves together.” Again, President Goodluck Jonathan has pleaded with aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who lost out during the party’s primaries not to defect to other parties. Addressing PDP supporters in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, the president said those aggrieved now might have the opportunity to be elected after the tenure of the winners. Mr. Jonathan had made a similar plea last month following threats by some members who lost in the governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly primaries, to quit the party. It has been in my mind for some time, given me very tough debate within me. Is it really better to marry the one you love ? Or to love the one you marry ? Marrying the one you love is surely one of best feeling or dream come true, but sometimes it still don't work out for some fellows. But when it do, it's a forever relationship. Loving the one you marry on the other hand is probably the best cause it'll be difficult for you guys to have problems but when you marry someone you don't love inplace of someone you love, its going to be hard for you guys to create or to have feelings for each other but when you do, you are gonna really enjoy it. It's now down to you my fellow nairalanders, what do you think ? Is it better to marry the one you love ? Or to love the one you marry ? |

The latest recovery of $23,886 by the Commission was made in similar circumstances, for Jolanta Kasza, an American based in New York. She was fleeced of $64,000 by a suspected Nigerian fraudster, Ndekwu Jindu (aka Dr. Daniel Coffman) in a romance scam. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been commended for helping to recover $2000 for an American victim of love scam, Margaret Sanders, just as the agency announced the recovery of $23,886 for another victim. Sanders who lives in Sherman, Texas, made the commendation after she was presented with a cheque for the sum by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI. “The governor also ordered the same security forces to break into the family house of Senator Goje’s wife, where they similarly destroyed doors and teargased the occupants, including the 90-year-old father of Senator Goje’s wife and the Senator’s wife’s 70-year-old stepmother, while all her sisters and brothers were arrested,” the APC said. There is palpable tension in Gombe state as the state Governor, Hassan Dankwambo is allegedly perfecting plans to have his predecessor in office, Danjuma Goje, arrested on charges of instigating political violence in the state. PREMIUM TIMES gathered from sources close to Mr. Goje on Tuesday that Mr. Dankwambo wants Mr. Goje arrested because the ex-governor appears the major obstacle he faces as he seeks re-election for a second term in office. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo today escalated his rejection of President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid by declaring his current mindset to be “Anything But Jonathan” (ABJ). He expressed his feelings to several of his aides following a late evening meeting with President Jonathan at his home in Abeokuta. Both men were in the presence of Pastor Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and Bishop David Oyedepo of Winner’s Chapel. To make matters worse, a few hours after meeting with Jonathan, Obasanjo met with leaders of the All People’s Congress (APC) and their presidential candidate, Muhammad Buhari, where he affirmed he will support the best candidate regardless of party affiliation. Jonathan’s closed-door meeting with Obasanjo clearly failed to soften the former leader’s hostility towards his floundering re-election bid as Obasanjo bluntly told him that having referred to him as a “tout”, it was hypocritical for Jonathan to turn around to describe him as the best president Nigeria ever had. It would also be recalled that two months ago, presidential adviser Doyin Okupe gave Jonathan that honor. On Sunday, as he received members of the Northern Elders Council in Abuja, an angry Mr. Jonathan had in a barely-veiled description of Obasanjo, dismissed him as a statesman. "Some people call themselves statesmen but they are not, they are just ordinary politicians,” Jonathan told his guests. “To be a statesman is not because you have occupied a big office before, but the question is what are you bringing to bear? Are you building this country or are you a part of people who tell lies to destroy the country?” READ MORE: saharareporters.com/2015/01/13/olusegun-obasanjo-declares-he-now-‘abj’-anything-jonathan
