Though the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had last month released 11 names of presidential candidates and their running mates out of 26 registered political parties in Nigeria, both President Jonathan and Gen. Buhari have continued to dominate political discussions in the country. However, with barely five weeks before the presidential polls, the incumbent President, through his Special Adviser on New Media, Reno Omokri, have come out with 11 questions he wants the former Head of State to answer for all Nigerians to know if he really decides to rule Nigeria once again after being a military ruler in 1983. Below are the ten questions Omokri tweeted on his official Twitter account, @renoomokri on January 9, 2015 1. Has Buhari apologized to Ben Ogedengbe’s family for killing him for a crime that didnt carry death penalty when he committed it. 2. Why did Buhari regime use violence to stop the September 1985 National Conference of the National Assn of Nigerian Students? 3. Has Buhari apologized for jailing Tai Solarin & denying him his asthma drugs simply because he campaigned against military rule? 4. Has Buhari apologized for jailing Nduka Irabor and Tunde Thompson for writing a truthful report which embarrassed his govt? 5. Has Buhari apologized for raiding Papa Awolowo’s house and seizing his passport so he couldn’t travel out of the country? 6. Has Buhari apologized for throwing VP Alex Ekwueme in jail even though it was proven that Ekwueme DID NOT steal? 7. What reason did Buhari have for jailing Ojukwu in 1984? Ojukwu was not in Shagari’s govt and he did not steal! 8. What reason did Buhari have for jailing honest Pa Michael Adekunle Ajasin, who did not steal as Ondo State Gov? 9. Can Buhari explain to young Nigerians why he banned the National Association of Nigerian Students? Does he hate students? 10. What reason did Buhari have for jailing the activist Beko Ransome Kuti who campaigned for his brother, Fela’s release? www.naijainside.com.ng/10-unbelievable-questions-that-jonathan-wants-buhari-to-answer-must-read/ |
The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Friday, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the only party that has the interest of Nigerian women. The first lady, who made the remark at the PDP Presidential Campaign Rally in Enugu, thanked the Igbo people for casting their votes for President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. She enjoined women to vote for Jonathan for the second term because he would further uplift their status and presence in government. She added that "PDP is the only party that has the interests of women at heart. "Women should vote for a president who gave us 35 per cent affirmative action and the opportunity to be heard. "Women who are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) should endeavour to do so to be able to vote for the president in February.’’ The first lady recalled that in 2011, she and her husband were in Enugu to solicit for the support of the Igbo. She said "we promised them that they would not enter the villa through the backdoor and we fulfilled our promises. "Today, we have come again to solicit for your votes for better benefits to Igbo and the womenfolk.’’ She expressed confidence in the ability of President Jonathan to make the country better and more developed. m.news24.com/nigeria/Elections/News/PDP-the-only-party-with-women-interest-Patience-20150110 |

Here are five rules I have for those embarking on a work romance. 1) The toilets are now Valentino’s bedroom Where do young hearts run free? Well, sadly, your choices are very limited. There is no mythical stationery cupboard you can retreat to. Really, the sole place of privacy is the toilets. You’ll have to deal with the fact you have some dusty old cans of Febreze and a rusty mirror for company. And you’ll have to train your eyes to not look at the floor tiles too much in case you vomit when you see the state of them. Chrissy and I also had the “cold room”, where all the frozen meats were kept. It was dark and not particularly populated, but also freezing. I found this romantic until I thought I had arthritis in my immobile knuckles from the cold. 2) Accept that everything becomes euphemistically loaded Linguistically speaking you become your idiot brother. Tragically, your language descends into the kind of desperate euphemisms you only get in panto. The most common-or-garden phrases become filled with heavy double entendres. In our relationship there were lots of unrepeatable, cringe-making comments involving various fruit, vegetables, three-for- two meal deals and, for some reason I can’t quite remember now, taramasalata. 3) Make cigarettes your new buddies Previously a nonsmoker, I took it up when I was seeing Chrissy. Necessity dictated that we spent as much time together as we could, and there was no better, more acceptable time to do that than the gay break. We held hands as I took the occasional puff, secretly hoping I wouldn’t cough my guts out and the ruse would be up. Long-suffering asthma condition be damned! 4) You are living in cheap romantic fiction. Roll with it. At the beginning of my office relationship, I was filled with an exhilarating sense that I was living a grownup life for the first time. I felt rebellious but also strangely alive. There was also a sense that my life had turned into the plot of a limited-release romcom. I was living cheap fiction, and I loved it. 5) Prepare for loneliness When the break-up comes, the aftermath is made even more difficult because no one knows about your relationship. I’ve never felt more lonely than when we split, and I shamefully realised that I had no colleagues to chat to because I’d spent months ignoring them in favour of spending time with Chrissy. My advice? Don’t forget about the other people in your office environment who could help you when times get tough. Otherwise you’ll end up spending your lunch breaks alone listening to lots of Alanis Morissette – and no one needs that. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again launched a public attack on President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of squandering $25billion crude oil savings left behind by his administration, Punch reports. Obasanjo made the allegation while hosting the South-West women leaders who visited him at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He said his administration left $25billion in Nigeria’s foreign reserve account after paying the outstanding debt at the time but the government of President Jonathan has squandered it. Obasanjo’ latest attack on the President is coming few weeks after he rated Jonathan’s performance as below average and held him responsible for the increase in the activities of insurgents in the north. He recently released a book 'My Watch' mid-December in which he berated the president and some other public figures, accusing them of plunging the country into the current economic and political crisis. Looking ahead to the biggest and best games of the next year, from DIY Super Mario World construction to an 80s-set alternative apocalypse. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Xbox One, PS4 & PC It may not have had a cash-intensive PR blitzkrieg, but The Witcher 2 – with its story quietly moulding itself around your actions and The Witcher himself refusing to conform to genre stereotype – generated endless word of mouth. This outing will be larger, prettier and even more open-ended. The Order: 1886 PS4 A steampunk vision of Victorian London where monsters roam, ready to be hacked to pieces by a shadowy organisation called The Order. It might involve a lot of coal-fired super-technology, but its setting and devotion to storytelling already stand out. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 & PC Like last year’s Ground Zeroes, this will put grizzled antihero Snake into an open world, letting you approach objectives however you like. Snake now smokes E-cigarettes and is once again voiced by Kiefer Sutherland to no great effect, but judging by Ground Zeroes, this should be dazzling. Splatoon Wii U Nintendo turns its hand to multiplayer shooters with Splatoon, in which you fire volleys of brightly coloured paint at other players and also at the environment, with the team managing to paint-spatter the biggest floor area winning. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture PS4 Set in pastoral England in the mid-1980s, this is an alternative take on the apocalypse, which for once doesn’t appear to feature either guns or zombies. As you might expect from the makers of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Dear Esther, it looks thought- provoking and eerily atmospheric. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End PS4 More deliciously wry story-driven adventures for Nathan Drake, the (naturally) American descendant of Sir Francis. The subtitle’s grim implication that this might be his swansong is about as likely as someone with a money- printing machine deciding to destroy it in a controlled explosion. Inside Xbox One By the same developer as the exquisite Limbo, Inside looks as though it could be even more spine-chilling and emotionally affecting. Taking place after a cataclysm turns almost everyone into shuffling automaton-like zombies, you have to blend in with the mindless horde as well as avoiding faster-moving beasts. Mario Maker Wii U Build your own Mario levels using a tool set that makes good use of the Wii U’s touch screen. Originally intended for use by Nintendo’s level designers, the richness and flexibility of this offering gives you access to enemies, obstacles and level furniture to create your own side-scrolling platform games. Tom Clancy’s The Division Xbox One, PS4 & PC More end-of-civilisation hijinks, as you team up with other players to patrol a decaying city in search of baddies to end. Ubisoft has had a few hiccups recently, so this will no doubt receive the full benefit of obsessive web forum-based scrutiny. Quantum Break Xbox One Quantum Break’s tale of a time travel experiment that goes tragically awry is being jointly made as an episodic video game and TV series. The last attempt at this, Defiance, wasn’t a total bust, but wasn’t great; could this one be the breakthrough? www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jan/03/games-biggest-releases-2015?CMP=fb_gu |

In case you hadn't already realised, it's the year of the selfie. That's according to Twitter's top trends of 2014. Ellen DeGeneres' star-stuffed Oscar photo was retweeted more than three million times - a Twitter record. The generic term "selfie" was mentioned more than 92 million times on Twitter - 12 times more than last year. Not to brag or anything, but BBC Trending - and the Oxford English Dictionary - were ever so slightly ahead of the curve. This time last year we looked at the psychology of the selfie . In 2014, we've covered (among others) a hair- pulling video selfie , the rise of #nomakeupselfie, and protesters in Egypt reacting to a selfie posted by former president Hosni Mubarak. Outside the world of front-facing camera lenses, the World Cup was the biggest Twitter event of the year - 672 million tweets were sent about this year's finals in Brazil. The World Cup also figured on Facebook's list of top trends (for some reason top social media companies seem to discount the last three weeks of the year). Feats like Robin van Persie's famous header enthralled the social media world and resulted in bizarre spectacles such as BBC Trending's Anne- Marie Tomchak balancing on a traffic barrier in the middle of London . Hitting the second slot on Facebook was the Ebola epidemic, despite the fact that a lot of online talk in West Africa is happening on chat apps , rather than on more public platforms. Elections in Brazil , the charity " ice bucket challenge " and the conflict in Gaza also reached the top 10. As a global trend, however, the selfie reigns supreme. So if - like many others - you are annoyed by the craze for self-photography, just take a deep breath and wait for 2015. Whether this holiday sees you travelling together for the first time, negotiating crazy in-laws or arranging the festivities, prioritise your love by keeping your physical intimacy alive and your emotional connection strong. Here's how... 1. Plan your time, form your team If you need to schedule your time and sync your calendars to make time for each other then do it. Facing challenges together will bring you together and the holiday season is nothing if not a challenge. Whether you're travelling, negotiating crazy in-laws or shopping malls or throwing a party together agree to go into the challenge as a team. And it is your team against them, where ‘them’ is everything else from Christmas shopping to ratty in-laws. 2. Set boundaries There are usually two major boundary issues in family dynamics over the silly season. The first is the free-for-all attitude to your space and time that family – and sometimes even friends – seem to assume. The second is your family's opinions about your life choice that they feel compelled to talk to you about. You are allowed to tell people when and where you would like to see them; you are allowed to tell people what you want to talk about. Even if those people are your parents. Noisy, invasive and opinionated family can have a very negative effect on your relationship. So be clear about where your priorities are and what is acceptable to you. Support each other in this. If you know your mom has a problem with your boyfriend or your brother thinks your girlfriend is an ass, put your big girl panties on and tell them to respect your decision and keep their opinions to themselves. Brainstorm solutions to tricky situations with your partner and decide how you will support each other. This could mean that you agree to steer away from problematic conversations, leave the lunch after two hours or refuse to be alone with family members who abuse their position in your life. Top tip? Resist the urge to moan or bad-mouth family members that are frustrating you. If you need to express your feelings, confide in your partner and make him or her your ally. 3. Take it out the bedroom Different routines and new holiday environments make it easier to snap out of a rut and play more. Take this opportunity to click the reset button on how you and lover get your kicks. Do you need to catch more quickies (keep the lube on stand-by!) or do you need to use the lazy, work-free mornings to linger over your love- making? If it's a choice between stress shopping and some sex time, choose your relationship over the malls. 4. Gift each other a sex wish 'Tis the season to be jolly, so get your jolly on. You know that thing your partner is crazy for, but you've been too shy to try? Give them the gift of being game to try something out of your comfort zone – you never know you could find you actually like it! Remember, you also get to call on a sex pressie of your choice. 5. Take some time out Yes the holidays are about family, but at the core is you and your partner, so take the time to strengthen the core. If you have kids, use all the resources available to you to get time alone with your honey – use babysitters, family, holiday play centres, friends, play dates … there is no reason not to make some time available for your primary relationship. 6. Don't overstretch yourself Trying to be the best, bestest, bestester at everything will stress you out. And stress kills – not just you, but your love life. That's science. Of course it's great to pull out all the stops for an impressive, year-end blow-out, but if that means losing sleep, getting into debt (which will stress you out more) or becoming edgy and argumentative is it really worth it? Think: manageable expectations, team work, less stress, less friction between you and your partner, better vibes and sweeter loving. |

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has defied a court order by going ahead to release his autobiography titled ‘My Watch’. Obasanjo said the presentation of the book in Lagos on Tuesday did not contravene any law as he had already written and edited the content of the book before the court order. A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Wuse Zone II, Abuja, had on Friday, December 5, given an order restraining him from proceeding with the publishing of the book. Justice Valentine Ashi ruled that part of the content of the three-volume book is related to the issue of the N20bn libel suit instituted by Kashamu against Obasanjo. source: m.news24.com/nigeria/National/News/Obasanjo-defies-court-order-releases-autobiography-20141210 |
Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu i came across this and feel i should share with muslim brothers. Attention Please!!! Last Saturday was the 1st of Muharram 1436 since the Sultaan announced it as such. Those Nigerian's who hold a contrary view mostly either do so because they believe more in the forecasts by timing committees and other groups, presented in calendars they churn annually or they depend solely on their personal sighting or are blind followers of some scholars who transport their differences with the Sultaan onto purely scriptural tarmacs. It is pertinent to mention, first and foremost, that Sunday should be the ninth of Muharram, not Saturday. Any act of 'ibaadah meant for a particular date in the Islamic calendar will be invalid if done on a contrary date. Such dates are subject to the announcement by appropriate authorities only. Let brothers and sisters fear Allah and desist from urging Muslims to consider tomorrow Saturday as the ninth. Sunday is the ninth while Monday is the tenth. Astronomy or any other science, raw or refined, which is used to determine crescent-appearance is valid only if it doesn't contradict the sharee'ah. The Prophet (SAW), said we don't rely on calculations to determine a new month. In consideration of this, it is wrong to determine the appearance of the crescent before the twenty ninth of a month. Such pronouncements are preemptive and consequently null and void. May Allah guide us to the straight path. Aameen. |

RECENTLY, in effort to eliminate Ebola at the source, through use of innovative disinfection technology, two “germ-killing robots” were deployed from the US to the JFK Hospital and ELWA Hospital both in Monrovia, Republic of Liberia, both hotspots of the Ebola disease outbreak. The robots, technically known as TRU-D SmartUVC, were used to disinfect health care environments where Ebola patients are being treated. Good Health Weekly gathered that TRU-D is the only portable UV disinfection device on the market with Sensor360 technology, which calculates the time needed to react to room variables such as size, geometry, surface reflectivity and the amount and location of equipment in the room and effectively deliver a lethal dose of UV-C light during a single cycle from a single, central location in the room. Ultraviolet light “It works by generating ultraviolet light energy that modifies the DNA structure of viral pathogens, like Ebola, so that they cannot reproduce. Viruses that cannot reproduce cannot colonise and harm patients,” the inventor, a tropical disease expert and medical anthropologist Dr. Jeffery L. Deal noted in an interview. Deal and his colleague, Chuck Dunn, President and CEO of TRU-D LLC, respectively, spoke about the importance of TRU-D to environmental disinfection in “TRU-D has been validated by more than 10 studies to be 99.99 percent effective in eliminating the most common pathogens that can use health care-associated infections. After deploying germ-killing robots to Liberia to aid in battle against the Ebola Virus Disease, TRU- D SmartUVC inventor traveled to the Ebola hotspots with UV disinfection devices TRU-D guarantees a pathogen-free environment for patients and health care staff. Deal, a Fellow in the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, has been training hospital staff to operate the devices in a number of hospital environments and monitor progress for successful disinfection. “We developed TRU-D SmartUVC technology to combat the devastating effects ofhospital acquired infections,” Deal said. “Unlike many diseases, Ebola strikes hospital workers more than any other group, making it the ultimate hospital acquired infection.” With TRU-D, health care leaders in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Saudi Arabia are eliminating pathogens like Ebola, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, MERS, influenza, norovirus, Clostridium difficile, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, etc., in all types of health care settings, including isolation wards, patient rooms, operating rooms, surgical suites, intensive care units, emergency rooms, public areas and ambulances. “We know through extensive CDC-funded research specific to TRU-D conducted by thought leaders in epidemiology and infection prevention that TRU-D is effective at eliminating anypathogen by delivering a precisely measured UVC dose. “As soon as we knew we could aid struggling hospitals in Liberia, our team came together and formulated a plan to get TRU-D on the ground. More than 200 TRU-Ds have been deployed to disinfect hospitals across the U.S. and internationally. Significance Between 10 and 15 percent of Ebola cases have been among health care workers. While most of this stems from contact with the patient, concerns exist that the physical environment can retain active microbes and be a risk. This device is used in the US to eliminate the organisms that may still reside on the walls, knobs, rails or any other exposed surface in health care settings. The robotic technology is capable of making the Liberian hospitals safer for the staff and for new patients. Development It was developed by a team of engineers, physicians and industrial hygienists with the purpose of decontaminating entire rooms automatically and eliminating concerns that a contaminated surface was missed during routine cleaning. We use an ultra-efficient narrow wavelength called UVC to flood the room with germicidal energy. UVC dosage is accurately measured and automatically adapts to kill organisms, even in shadowed areas. UV disinfection technology and EVD control This technology is designed to prevent the spread of the disease transmitted via contaminated surfaces in health care environments and is not a treatment or a cure. We believe that prevention is the best medicine. The U.S. Army tested this particular wavelength against Ebola and found that the measured dose TRU-D delivers results in incredibly rapid destruction of the virus with its pathogen-specific dosing options.. We know it is perfect for use in this critical setting. Merits/demerits Multiple studies have already been published from U.S. and UK academic facilities of TRU-D’s ability to decontaminate rooms, almost always testing it against organisms that are much more difficult to kill in the environment than Ebola is. |
