The opening of the Greenlight Hub came on the back of Uber officially launching operations in Benin, the capital city of Edo State.

The Uber network is now available in over 600 cities in over 80 countries spanning 6 continents.

Representing the Edo State Governor; His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki at an exclusive press parley, she said: “Uber launching in Benin is one more proof that Edo State is making great strides to its next level of its economic transformation. Over the past 2 and a half years of this administration, we as the government have made deliberate and concerted efforts to make Edo State conducive and attractive to businesses, investors and people from all walks of life.”

In addition, she said: “I am delighted with the work done by Uber to bring development into the state, which will further encourage self-reliance and self-dependence for the people of Edo State.”
Also speaking at the press parley, the General Manager West Africa at Uber, Lola Kassim said: ”We are happy to be launching the UberX product in Benin City, Edo State today. We collaborated closely with the Government of Edo State on the launch because of a shared vision to promote innovation and create business and economic opportunities in the cities where we operate. As we reiterate Uber’s commitment to expansion within the African continent, it’s important to us to work closely with policy and regulators to unlock new markets.”

According to the Head Edo State Skills Development Agency, Ukinebo Dare, “The Government of Edo State says welcome to Uber. We are also quite happy that Uber has chosen to be located at the Edo Innovation Hub, because we realize how important it is for our youth who are being trained here to be exposed to the power of technology and disruptive business models.”

The Uber Greenlight Hub is located within the Edo Innovation Hub complex and will be open Monday through Thursday, from 9am – 4pm, and on Friday, from 9am – 3pm, excluding public holidays.

*Residents hail Obaseki as contractor intensifies work on Ekehuan Road dualisation*

As contractor intensifies work on the dualisation of Ekehuan Road, which leads to the site of the Benin River Port project in Gelegele, residents in the area have hailed Governor Godwin Obaseki for keeping to his promise to drive infrastructural development in the state and open up the state for investment.

A cross-section of residents in the area maintained that the Governor Obaseki-led administration has done exceedingly well in infrastructural development in the area, citing the reconstruction of inner roads, laying of fibre optic cables for internet connectivity and the reconstruction of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in the axis.

Speaking to journalists at the project site, a resident, Monday Osagie, commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for transforming different parts of the state, noting, “I used to live abroad but with the call of the governor asking us to come back as he is working to make the state habitable for all, I heeded his call. I am here to contribute my quota to the development of my state. I am pleased and happy as the state has great prospects with Obaseki on the saddle of leadership.”

He said that the dualisation of Ekehuan Road will open the area for more development and attract more investors, noting, “I am just amazed by the foresight of Obaseki. Look at the Benin River Port in Gelegele, if completed, it will bring huge investments and revenue to the state, as the Lagos port is already congested. Edo will become a destination for investors.”

Another resident, Mr Emeka Ezechi, commended the ongoing dualisation of the road, urging the state government to continue in its unprecedent urban renewal drive, adding, “I trust Governor Obaseki because he is known as Wake and See. The Governor is dear to our hearts and we will stand with him all the way, especially with this project in our area.”

Urhobo, isoko, degema, etc in delta, river and bayelsa are all proud edoid people and they speak edoid language, itskerris which are not even related to Igbo's, they are still claiming them because of oil and access to sea.

See hw behind nigeria has been left...even with our mighty oil. The main problem of nigeria is diversity. Its a blessing for some countries but its nigeria's biggest problem

An hausa president can do something to favour his tribe even if it hurts the country.

But in biafra...if biafra is strictly the 10 states of se and ss minus edo, we have a common religion in christianity...at least we wont have religious tensions or boko haram...wat we can have is tribal tensions...but that can be solved by allowing regional autonomy to high degree
thank God you said minus "Edo" , I hope it Biafra also exclude all edoid tribes in delta, river and bayelsa state. Itskerri kings and chiefs are also of Edo origin. We won't allow greedy igbos have an inch of our territory.

If you want Biafra, aggitate for Igbo country and leave edoid people out of your nonsense

Imagine,

what are you talking sef sire.?

Edo state na Yoruba state oooo. Even the other day the letter written by alaafin to buhari , he named Edo state as Yoruba territory.

Please make your research well.....Edo na Yoruba get am.

See the letter of Alaafin to Buhari

"Titled, ‘Yoruba Question in Nigeria Conundrum,’ Alaafin wrote, “I have never been timid or failed in my total support for the success of your administration. My confidence had always been based on Your Excellency’s ability, fitness and competence in leading the country to the Promised Land, where law and order will prevail, individual liberty is guaranteed and economic wellbeing of the citizens is assured.
“In recent time, however, I am worried about the security situation in the country, especially in the South-West geo-political zone, nay the entire Yoruba-speaking area of the country, including Kwara, Kogi and Edo states."

please argue with facts.
he said "Yoruba speaking communities", don't we have Igbo speaking community in Benue, does that make the entire Benue state Igbo? No.

We even have Edo and ijaw speaking people in ondo, that doesn't make ondo ijaw or Edo land.

Yoruba is very different from Edo people, only uneducated youth will group them as one.

Seems the man wants to join his people over in pdp...Edo state you welcome to PDP.

So that finally SE/SS will be locked down for pdp....

But you know Edo state are Yoruba, so I think they will prefer to remain in APC with their brothers in SW.........is still okay...... blood is thicker than water.
Edo state is Yoruba? I think you don't have sense. How is Edo Yoruba?

PoliticsObaseki: RUGA Will Not Happen In Edo State, Sambisa Forest A Better Option by Astark(op): 5:56am On Jul 24, 2019
The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki said his administration will not avail the federal government land for the contentious Ruga settlement in Edo State.

The Governor spoke while giving a lecture on the topic “Challenges of Pastoralism and International Migration for Sustainable Peace and Development: Edo State Experience” at the Department of State Services Institute of Security Studies (Executive Intelligent Management Course 12), in Abuja.

He said the narrative that the pastoral movement and farmer/headers clashes are not related to the security challenges in Nigeria is not true.

His words: “In Edo State, we have found so-called herdsmen with maps in the forests, they clearly cannot be herdsmen who are dependent on their livelihood from their animal assets; that cannot be.

“I think it is important in the context of this discourse to make that distinction between conflict as a result of economic activities, separate from deliberate conflict that is related to other issues like insurgency and terrorism.”

The Governor said over the years the state has had issues of pastoralists or herdsmen who have come to parts of the South, Edo State using grazing routes and mixing with locals.

“Our approach is, animal husbandry is a business just like we have poultry, piggery or what have you, so from that perspective, we want to now upgrade agricultural practices as it relates to livestock.

“During the era of General Babangida, he set up ranches in Edo; we have one in Igarra and several parts of the state. They are either privatized or left fallow, so we are talking to people who purchased them to see how they can be re-activated.

“For us, because it is business like any other private business, the state should not really have much to except we create an enabling environment for those people we want to invest in livestock business.

“So, the issue of giving state land for livestock, it won’t happen in Edo State.

“However, for individuals who have land and they want to go into livestock business like we are supporting people who are doing cassava and others, we as government will support them.”

On how to resolve the incessant herders/farmers conflict, he said: “The Sambisa Grazing Reserve (4800 ha) is an ideal and symbolic place to take-off by establishing a ranch run by the military.

“It would significantly improve the security situation in the zone and encourage cooperation between pastoralists and the military.
“In the North West, the military should also be encouraged to create ranches in the Gidan Jaja Grazing Reserve (565,000 ha) for the same purpose of improving security and cooperation with pastoralists,” the Governor said.

Obaseki said violent extremism, recurrent herder-farmer conflicts, cattle rustling, armed banditry, violent cross-border crimes, insurgency, illegal migration and other forms of crimes have “threaten the fabric of our country. ”

According to him, national cohesion is seriously threatened by the conflict “as many farmers and pastoralists have lost their lives and property in several orgies of violence.

“As we gather here for this lecture, so many Nigerians are living in fear of attack or reprisal attacks due to the growing herders-farmers’ conflict,” he said.
