Suspected ritualists kidnapped and killed a pupil of St. Joseph's African Church Primary School, Odootu/Odogbe in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Details of the incident are still sketchy at the time of filing this report but it was gathered that the 8-year-old girl went to the toilet within the school and did not return to class.

Her mutilated corpse was later found with some of her body parts, including both wrists and feet.

A University of Jos student identified as Julius Nember, is fighting for his life in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by a female neighbour.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday morning, January 12, 2024.

According to Facebook user, Krayzeetee Atuu, who spoke to the victim's family members, trouble started after the suspect, also a UNIJOS student, claimed that Julius and his friend were making noise and locked Julius and his friend in his room with a padlock from outside.

She later gave someone else the key to open the door when Julius and his friend got angry.

When Julius confronted the suspect over her action she allegedly stabbed him in the chest with a knife.

"This is Julius Nember known as Jay Fresh. He is a Benue Indigene studying at university of Jos and a brother to Sharks Francis OrCarpenter

Julius was stabbed this morning in the chest by an angry female neighbour," Atuu wrote.

"The doctors have already packed out 4 bags of blood from his internally bleeding chest as you can see from the other picture and they are taking him for theatre now.

"This is how it happened as narrated by his sister in law Kierra Kerria Kells De Legendary-Wife and her hubby.

"Julius was in his room with his friend and a female neighbor who is Jos girl and student of Uni Jos, felt they were making noise so she came with her padlock straight and locked them inside with padlock and left.

"When they got angry and started reacting inside, the lady neighbor gave someone else the key to open them out and went back inside.

"Coming outside, Julius and his friend approached her door to ask her why she behaved that way but instead, the lady came out with a knife, stabbed Julius who was in front in the chest and went back inside.

"As I am talking to you now, they have already packed 4 bags of blood from Julius chest and he is been prepared for the theatre.

“Meanwhile, the lady neighbor that stabbed him is in police custody. As we pray for him, let's not forget the fact that a lot of people are not normal in this world and be very cautious.”

According to her, she is not even in good terms with her father to the extent of even contacting him was a big issue. She had to reach her cousin to reach her father.

The Gambian national team came within minutes of dying after the oxygen supply failed on their plane.

The squad were flying from their capital city of Banjul to the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast when the serious issue occurred.

Several players passed out on the plane, before the pilot was forced to return to Banjul Airport for an emergency landing just nine minutes after take-off.

TMZ reports that the incident is said to have taken place in 2022 at DTLA.

A Zimbabwean cleric based in South Africa, Jay Israel has shared ‘’evidence'' showing that Sihle Sibisi, a South African woman who was featured in the BBC documentary about Prophet TB Joshua, has a history of allegedly defrauding people.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Kano State Command has arrested a 25-year-old 'mentally ill man, Alkasim Ya’u, for allegedly killing his wife at Tudun Yola ‘C’, in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State. 

The NSCDC  Corps Commandant, Mohammed Falala, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Sunday, January 7, 2024. 

Falala said the incident occurred on Friday, January 5, 2024 at about 1330 hours at the residence of Salisu Bala.

The deceased father, Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, brought his mentally ill son, Alkasim Ya’u, to Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau, for medical treatment, where they booked to see a medical doctor on Saturday January 6.

A woman allegedly confessed to smothering her cancer-stricken boyfriend to death with a pillow because she was ‘disgusted’ by caring for him.

Margaret Kearney, 69, of New Port Richey, Florida, was arrested on Tuesday in the death of her boyfriend who was in hospice care with terminal rectal cancer.

A visiting nurse discovered Kearney’s boyfriend of 15 years dead on December 20.

The unnamed victim had ‘no concerning injuries’, according to Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies who arrived at the scene.

A day later, Kearney’s friend of over three decades told officials that a few phone calls they had together raised red flags.

Kearney ‘expressed disgust with having to care for the victim, as the victim was defecating himself due to his illness and she did not wish to clean him and would wait for Hospice or a home health care nurse to clean him next time they visited,’ stated the affidavit.

The friend said Kearney had called her just after 10.30pm the prior night saying ‘that she smothered the victim with a pillow and that he was “gone”‘, according to legal papers.

Kearney said she intended to cover him with a blanket so the hospice nurse visiting the next day would think he died in his sleep, her friend claimed....

South Africa’s luxury goods tycoon Johann Rupert and his family have taken the crown as Africa’s top billionaire after Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote lost the prime spot.

According to the latest Forbes billionaire ranking, Mr Rupert and his family are currently the 201st wealthiest in the world, while Mr Dangote is the 219th.

The valuation of the wealth of Mr Dangote, who held the first place on the African billionaire ranking for more than 12 years, came under pressure after a major devaluation of the naira by roughly 40 per cent last June and the free fall that followed left his wealth much weaker in dollar terms.

Mr Dangote earns the bulk of his fortune in naira, which finished 2023 as the third worst-performing currency in the world of the 151 currencies tracked by Bloomberg.

A woman was crushed by a falling tree in London as Storm Henk battered the UK with 94mph winds and heavy rain.

Firefighters had to help free the woman in Orpington before she was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

It came as residents in the capital were given an urgent ‘don’t leave your homes’ warning, with the latest named storm causing damage to property and triggering yet more travel chaos.

An amber warning for wind issued by the Met Office covered a central swathe of England, informing the public of possible travel disruption, roof damage and power cuts across southern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and Wales.

The strongest gales were recorded at the Needles Old Battery in the Isle of Wight, where wind speeds reached 94mph.

Gusts of 81mph were reached at Exeter Airport in Devon, and top winds hit 71mph at the Isle of Portland in Dorset and also at Mumbles Head in Glamorgan.

A broad yellow warning for rain was in place on Tuesday evening – leaving regions including East Midlands, East of England, London and south-east England, north-west England, south-west England and Wales braced for heavy downpours.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists in military uniform have killed 12 persons and abducted one in Gatamarwa and Tsiha communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State. 

The latest attack came barely two weeks after the insurgents perpetrated a similar attack in Chibok, where they killed two persons and looted food stuff in some houses before settling them ablaze.

Bright orange flames engulfed the Japan Airlines aircraft as it came into Haneda Airport in the Japanese capital. Emergency vehicles raced along the tarmac to deal with the pulsing inferno after the flight collided with a Japanese Coast Guard aircraft.

Local TV broadcast images of a large eruption of fire and plumes of thick black smoke billowing into the air as the plane taxied on the runway. The area around the wing - where the engines are situated - then caught fire.

South Korea’s main opposition party leader Lee Jae-myung was stabbed with a knife during a visit to the southern city of Busan on Tuesday, January 2.

The shocking assault left him bloodied but conscious, party officials said.

Lee was touring the construction site of the Gadeokdo New Airport when he was struck on the left side of his neck while speaking to a crowd of reporters, according to a Democratic Party official.

President Bola Tinubu today January 1 signed into law the 2024 Appropriation Bill at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. 

Tinubu assented to the N28.7tn budget shortly after he arrived in Abuja from Lagos where he spent the past week holidaying.

The budget is N1.2tn higher than the budget he proposed to a joint session of the National Assembly on November 29, 2023. On Friday, December 29, 2023, the Senate increased the 2024 budget by N1.2tn, moving the budget from N27.5tn to N28.7tn.

According to the report submitted by the Appropriation Committee led by Senator Solomon Adeola, aggregate expenditure was pegged at N28,777,404.073.861; statutory transfers at N1,742,786,788,150; recurrent expenditure at N8,768.5330,852; capital expenditure at N9,995,143,298,028 and GDP at 3.88 per cent.

Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu Jnr, the son of the immediate past Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, has revealed how his father died on Wednesday December 27. 

In a statement released this evening December 27, the bereaved son stated that the former governor died in his sleep in Germany where he was being treated for prostate cancer. He added that his burial arrangement will be announced later.\
“He died peacefully departed in his sleep at a Hospital in Germany, where he was undergoing treatment for protracted prostate cancer. The governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has died at the age of 67 after a long illness.

A family source reported on Wednesday that the governor passed away in Lagos while undergoing treatment as he reportedly was not able to be flown abroad for treatment.

It was reported that Akeredolu had struggled with Leukemia for months before his death.

The ill governor had only just returned to Nigeria from a three-month medical leave in Germany and proceeded to govern Ondo State from his home in Ibadan.

After a three-month medical leave in Germany, the ill governor returned to Nigeria in September.

He however took another medical leave in December 2023 and subsequently transferred control of Ondo State to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who has been filling in as Acting Governor.

Before his passing, Akeredolu was a second term governor of Ondo State and was also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a past president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

TV star Kamar de los Reyes, who played an iconic Call of Duty villain and appeared in the soap opera One Life to Live, has died aged 56 after being diagnosed with cancer.

The actor, who was born in Puerto Rico in 1967, was best known for his portrayal of Antonio Vega on the soap opera One Life to Live, which he played for 14 years from 1995 to 2009.

He also made a memorable turn as the villainous antagonist Raul Menendez in the 2012 video game Call of Duty: Black Ops II, a role he reprised in Call of Duty: Black Ops IV and Call of Duty: Vanguard, the last of which came out in 2022.

The actor died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, it was announced.

Ukraine claims to have destroyed yet another major Russian navy ship in Crimea – after Vladimir Putin was forced to withdraw the bulk of his vaunted Black Sea Fleet due to similar attacks.

The air force struck the Novocherkassk landing ship during a raid on the port town of Feodosia early on Tuesday.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has condemned the planned demolition of about “200 houses” in the Nuwalege community of Abuja to make way for the expansion of the presidential fleet. 

Speaking on Friday, Dec. 22, via his official X account, Obi said he was shocked and at the same time pained by the development. 

He described it as “an inconsiderate project at this critical time when the country is going through untold hardship.” 

Obi stated, “I am shocked by the recent report of the planned demolition of about 200 houses in the Nuwalege community in Abuja, to make way for the Presidential Fleet. 

“I am again pained that we are embarking on such an inconsiderate project at this critical time when the country is going through untold hardship,” he said. 

The former governor of Anambra State also stated that the focus should be on how to do away with the Presidential Fleet, or reduce it to the minimum, “to cut costs and save up for more critical projects to help the people, instead of demolishing people’s homes.” 

Obi said instead of increasing the presidential fleet, the government should look for ways to reduce or eliminate costs.

Police confirmed the gunman has also died after staff and students at the university in the Czech Republic capital were forced to barricade themselves in rooms and climb onto roof ledges.

Czech Police said: ‘The gunman has been eliminated. The entire building is currently being evacuated and there are several dead and dozens of injured.’

Students were seen cowering on a roof ledge to hide from the gunman, who appeared to be shooting with a rifle from the rooftop.

A man allegedly kept the deceased body of his wife on the floor of the living room for days, even as their two dogs chewed her foot off.

Gary Johnson, 60, said he left her on the floor ‘because he did not want to lose her’, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.

Johnson, of Panama City, Florida, called 911 on Saturday to report than an unknown person was inside his home and that his wife, Evamarie Macgregor, was lying on the floor and he believed she was dead.

Responding police officers got no answer when they arrived at the front door and looked into the front window and saw a woman lying and appearing to be surrounded with blood.

Men of the Lagos state police command have arrested two persons identified as Imo Lawrence and Magnus Nwonka, for allegedly operating a fake factory where fake drinks were being produced.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, says the two suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of fake drinks. He said in the course of investigation, the suspects led detectives to their inconspicuous, multi-room ‘factory.'”

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NAFDAC has uncovered factories in the popular Cemetery market in Abia state where fake wines and fizzy drinks are being produced.

Channels TV reports that the agency stormed the market and discovered shops where adulterated products from other brands were being reproduced.

The video shared online showed wines and even fizzy drinks in cartons that have been produced by the criminals and awaiting distribution for unsuspecting members of the public to purchase. The products had fake NAFDAC numbers on them.

The Nigerian Bar Association says it has began an investigation into the viral video of a lawyer assaulting his wife in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. 

In a statement released, the National Publicity Secretary of the Association, Akorede Habeeb Lawal says the lawyer has been identified as Ekere S. Ebong. He added that the President of the NBA, Yakubu Maikyau, has ordered the Uyo branch of the association to investigate the incident as a way of establishing a case of professional misconduct against the lawyer.

Comic actor, John Okafor a.k.a Mr. Ibu who had one of his leg amputated weeks ago, has also undergone another surgery.

Sources told Vanguard that he has undergone another surgery, cutting off part of the same leg that was initially amputated last month. His health is said to have degenerated to the point that he hardly talks again.


There are also fears over the deteriorating health of another veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor, who has been hospitalized at Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Anambra State, for over two months.
