Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr Mike Okiro, has blamed the delay in approval of over 6000 policemen recommended for promotion on the unprecedented frosty relationship and misunderstanding between the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris and the leadership of PSC.

Fielding questions from Maupe Ogun and Chamberlain Usoh on Channels TV program – Sunrise Daily, today, Okiro who disclosed that close to 7000 policemen are on the list sent to PSC for promotions and special promotions described media reports on the exercise as rumours.

There were reports that the acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, suspended the exercise because of some irregularities.

Three former Nigerian presidents have been accused of squandering over N11trillion meant to provide electricity for the people.

Those accused in a report released today by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) are former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.

The report says: “The total estimated financial loss to Nigeria from corruption in the electricity sector starting from the return to democracy in 1999 to date is over N11 Trillion. This represents public funds, private equity and social investment (or divestment) in the power sector. It is estimated that it may reach over N20 Trillion in the next decade given the rate of government investment and funding in the power sector amidst dwindling fortune and recurrent revenue shortfalls.”

Three gangs of kidnappers have again been smashed in Abia State by policemen who quickly followed tips from members of the public.

According to the police, two of the suspects, who were among 30 felons paraded yesterday, were nabbed before day break inside a hotel room as they were sharing the ransom paid by a victim’s family on July 27.

The suspected kidnappers arrested after collecting ransom to release a victim.
A military rifle and loads of ammunition used by another fleeing kidnapper were recovered from the bush, after officers were led to a hospital where a suspect had died while being treated for bullet wounds sustained in gun battle with the police who rescued a victim identified as Onyemaechi Mbamaonyeukwu Ijeoma.

Suspected members of the notorious badoo cult have struck again in Ikorodu, Lagos, killing four members of a family.

Police said a fifth member of the family that survived the attack is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Spokesman for the Lagos State police command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the latest attack, in statement, on Sunday. He, however, added that police have, so far, not uncovered any evidence linking the attack with the badoo cult.

It was learned that the attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, at Oke Ota, in Ibeshe area of Ikorodu.

Police said they have commenced a murder investigation, but did not disclose the identities of the victims.

The statement by Famous-Cole confirming the incident read: “Murder Incident reported in the early hours of Sunday 30th July 2017, where police operatives of the Lagos State command responded to a distress call at Oke Ota, Ibeshe, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

“Mobilising to the scene, which the police operatives found extremely difficult to locate, was a house situated in a thick forest. It is remotely impossible for anybody to identify a dwelling house in the area.

“Eventually, arriving at the scene on foot, we discovered the house where a family of five was attacked. It is just a room & parlour, with one open window and no visible form of security. It was reported that three victims died on the spot, one died while receiving treatment at the hospital, while the last family member is alive and responding to treatment.

“As investigation commenced, no visible trace of violence or clues linked to the cultist group was found. No stone was found at the scene. A case of murder is being investigated by police detectives, which doesn’t fit in the modules of operadi of the cult group.”

The statement also appealed to cooperate with the police in their efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.

“The Lagos State police command is using this opportunity to call on LCDAs and CDAs chairman, as well as traditional rulers who may be aware of residents staying in isolated areas, which are no longer safe, to report to the police in order to stop people from dwelling in insecure areas without proper social structures

“The command also wishes to inform members of the public to come forward with useful information to aid the police and not resort to jungle justice, while investigation is ongoing. This will ensure investigation is not jeopardised. Such information may also lead to the arrest of the alleged suspects, who are on the command’s watch list.

Exclusive: Obasanjo in White Garment ... Preaches Love as C&S, CCC Hold Joint Crusade in London

July 29, 2017

From Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu, London/

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo today enjoined Nigerians home and abroad to embrace love as Christ is love.

Speaking at a joint crusade of the Cherubim & Seraphim Worldwide and Celestial Church of Christ globally at Excel ICC Hall, in London, Obasanjo preached that God is love and for any community or nation to make progress, the people must show love to one another.

He quoted from the Bible passage – 1st Corinthians 13: 13, saying, “And now these three remain; Faith, Hope and Love, but the greatest of these is love.”

Obasanjo’s appearance in a Sutana like a white garment church pastor kindled laughter among the congregation.

He also provoked laughter, when he echoed the MC who announced that people should sit down when they stood up to glimpse at him (Obasanjo).

He said, “Everybody should sit down and stand up. Sit down if you have where to sit. If you don’t have a seat, remain standing.” Everybody cheered him. He then listed a number of attributes that God does not share with human beings to include: Omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience and eternity.

“These are great attributes of God which he keeps to himself,” he said.

He, however, added that there were attributes of God that he shared with human beings. These, according to him, include righteousness, kindness, compassion, love and “the greatest of these attributes is love”.

He said, “Faith is the foundation and content of God’s message. If you have no faith, you can’t believe in God. If you have no faith, you can’t even believe in yourself. To believe is to have faith.

“Hope is the attitude and focus.

“Love is the action from one to another. God himself is love, as we have in 1st John, Chapter 4 Verse 8. Love is the attribute of God that he shares with us. Love is the only attribute that can change human beings, community, society; love can change the world. No matter what is happening to you, or happening within our nation, our continent, our world, the only way to bring about change is through love.

“This joint revival has been brought about by love. If we must make progress in our life, we must love. Hatred kills.

He rounded off the speech by praying that God grant everyone present the spirit of love that will make us change in “our community, our nation and our world”.

President of C&S Worldwide, Prof Solomon Alao, speaking at the event.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi also spoke at the event tagged ‘Comfort the Comforter Crusade’.

He said, “What you are doing today is very good. Both Cherubim & Seraphim church that are having a joint revival were established in Africa by black men. I don’t believe in the saying that nothing good comes out of Africa. If we don’t acknowledge our own, who will do it for us?

“The cloth that we wear was first worn by Oduduwa Ateworo. Oduduwa was the first to wear cloth in the entire world. We blacks were the first to produce iron; that is why they call us blacksmith. Today, they use iron for every good thing – cars, aeroplane, houses, even this mighty hall, where we are, cannot stand without iron.”

According to the Ooni, every good thing came from Africa.

He added that even electricity was first produced by Africans as palm kernel chaff and palm oil were first used to power electricity. Every good thing therefore came from Africa; and because of that, Africans must always cherish goodness and shun evil.

Highlight of the event was soul touching music by Nigerian artistes including Chief Ebenezer Obey and Sir Shina Peters.
