Crime / Nnpc’s Imported Adulterated Fuel Can Cause Cancer, Sotlan Warns …offers Solution by Atandakk: 10:19pm On Feb 15, 2022

Unless the Federal Government strengthens local laboratories and builds capacity, the problems of adulterated fuel that increases the risk of cancer in Nigerians will persist says the Society of Testing Laboratory Analysts of Nigeria (SoTLAN) today.

Addressing a press conference at Ostra Halls, Alausa, in Lagos, the President of SoTLAN, Professor Olugbenga Ben Ogunmoyela urged the government to stop putting the fate of the nation in the hands of foreign labs that are not in any way superior to many of Nigeria’s lSO 17025 accredited local laboratories.

Prof. Ogunmoyela frowned at the economic disruptions and damages caused by the delivery of contaminated fuel across Nigeria. He described it as a national embarrassment and urged the government to look inwards for a lasting solution to the importation of methanol-contaminated petroleum motor spirit into the country by the NNPC or other authorized companies.

He said, “It is a known fact that due to the current subsidy regime, NNPC is the sole supplier of all PMS in Nigeria, charged with the purchase, importation, distribution, or marketing of petroleum products supplied to some major marketers. The product delivered was reported to “appear hazy and dark and was consequently isolated, probably following complaints received after having been released. it is further stated that ‘upon analysis, it was confirmed that the PMS product was contaminated with 20% methanol, which is an illegal substance in Nigeria’. While it is reassuring that NNPC has taken necessary steps to reject further imports of this type of product from any trader supplying fuels that contain ethanol/methanol into Nigeria, the question is, why should we still be talking about substandard and contaminated products in a petroleum industry which has been prominent in our economy for over sixty years?”

Crime / Big Dreams Of Lagos Super Cop Lynched By Angry Mob by Atandakk: 6:45pm On Sep 25, 2021
NewsmakersNG

Dipo Kehinde/

Six months from now, the arrowhead of the battle against hoodlums in Lagos State, CSP Kazeem Sumonu Abonde, would have retired to his Ona-Ara hometown in Oyo State where he was hoping to join a political party and contest an election.

Already, he had registered a law firm, K.S. Abonde & Co, and was also looking forward to being the legal adviser to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his hometown.

Built like a buffalo with a strong body constitution, Abonde was a restless fighter in the war against hoodlums in Lagos. As the leader of the Strike Force at Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja, he had been sent several times to stamp out the fire whenever hoodlums were on the rampage in the state.

On July 22, 2021, NewsmakersNG met him on the field of battle, when he led a reinforcement team from the Lagos State police command to stop hoodlums who attempted to lynch the Chairman, Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Omiyale Kayode, as he was returning from a campaign rally at Abule Oja area with some APC party stalwarts.

Life for Abonde was one day one trouble, he once told NewsmakersNG. Fellow officers described him as a restless and very reliable crime fighter.
As if he had a premonition, Abonde recently requested that he wanted to spend his remaining days in the Nigeria Police Force peacefully as a Divisional Police Officer, but the request was rejected by the authorities that felt there was no better beat for such a rugged officer than the daily battles with hoodlums.

Like Harold Robbins would say ‘Dreams Die First.’

On September 23, he was bludgeoned to death, by hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons, while enforcing the ban on the use of motorcycles, otherwise known as Okada.

He led the tactical team of the Lagos State Police Command with men drawn from RRS, Taskforce, Ajao Estate Division, and other divisions. They were carrying out a raid of identified flashpoints and enforcing the ban on motorcycles in restricted areas in the estate and similar places in the state.

Nigerian Tech Wizard Dies Sleeping after His Work Won $125 Million US Govt Contract

The CEO of Retina-AI Health Incorporation, Mr. Stephen Odaibo, has told how his brother mysteriously died in his sleep a week after winning a $125 million (N68,750,000,000) government contract in the United States.

NewsmakersNG’s checks revealed that the brother, identified as David Gbodi Odaibo, lived in Hoover, Alabama.

In a post on LinkedIn, Odaibo stated: “My brother, David Gbodi Odaibo, passed away yesterday. My heart is broken. He had a cardiac arrhythmia/heart attack in his sleep. He was fully vaccinated and did not have Covid. He and I were so close. He was only 42.

“David was kind, gentle, brilliant, and humble.

“He had a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and was a Kaggle Grandmaster, the highest attainable skill level in practical Machine Learning. He introduced me to Al.

“The algorithm he wrote for automatically detecting threats at Airports just won a $125 Million contract from Department of Homeland security about 1 wk ago. His code beat out companies backed by Billions of dollars. So, in the future when you safely fly the skies, please remember my brother David.

“Our hearts are broken. My poor parents, his wife, and two young children. His 4 siblings. We are devastated.

“David and I were tremendously aligned in our interests and would often talk for hours. Our connection was rare and precious. We ended phone conversations with “love you”.

“Hug your loved ones and tell them you love them.

“Though there may be sorrow in the night, joy comes in the morning. I’m comforted that David is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

NewsmakersNG

Dipo Kehinde/

In her 60 years of nationhood, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation has produced some celebrated detectives who cracked the toughest criminal cases on the continent, but one of them today stands head and shoulders above the rest.

With hundreds of deadly criminals caged after diligent investigations and relentless pursuit, the Commander of Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari has inscribed his name on the tablet of eternity as a quintessential detective that even Sherlock Holmes and Hollywood counter-terrorist crime buster, Jack Bauer, will envy.

Like the legendary master detective, Sherlock Holmes, created by British author – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Kyari has a knack for solving difficult crimes through Intelligence-led policing.

His conquests of the most deadly underworld kingpins in Nigeria has earned him fame as well as honours from the people, the government, and organizations in and out of the country.
Kyari was decorated with the Presidential Medal for Courage by President Muhammadu Buhari on April 1, 2016.

That was the icing on the cake for the multiple-award winning crime fighter who had three times won the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Commendation Medal for Courage in 2012, 2013, and 2014; a triple recipient of the Lagos State Governor’s award for Gallantry, Leadership and Service Excellence in 2011, 2012, and 2013; voted as the Best Police Officer of the Decade, and bagged the 2018 Hero of the Year Award from Silverbird Group.

Professor Folashade Ogunsola of the College of Medicine and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development Services at the University of Lagos has been elected by the Senate as the acting Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university.

At an emergency meeting convened at the university today, Ogunsola polled 135 votes while Professor Ben Oghojafor secured 31 votes. One vote was voided.

The Senate of the University of Lagos had gone ahead to convene the emergency meeting despite the contrary notice given by the Secretary to the suspended Council, Mr Azeez Oladejo, that the council had not convened any Senate meeting.

Oladejo belongs to the camp of the suspended Dr Wale Babalakin-led governing council.

President Muhammadu Buhari as the Visitor to the University, had asked the Senate of the Institution to appoint an Acting VC, amid a bitter war that followed the purported sack of the VC, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe by the Chairman of the governing council, Dr Babalakin.

The President asked Babalakin and Ogundipe to recuse themselves from their duties, and he ordered the acting VC appointed by the Babalakin-led council to leave the seat.

A storm is raging at a mining and quarry site in Ondo, which has been uncovered as a secret goldmine of a former governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Rahman Mimiko and his associates.

At the center of the storm is a firm known as Francisca Muinat Limited which Mimiko invested in while he was Ondo State governor and brought in his brother, Dr Olubansile Abbas Mimiko, who was practicing as a Psychiatrist in the United States, to look after his interest in the company with Chinese, Spanish, and Nigerian shareholders.

Salaries are not being paid at Francisca Muinat Ltd and workers are dying at the site in ltale Aaye Community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, says aggrieved employees. Landowners and residents have also decried what they described as the degradation of their community and vowed to stop further mining activities at the site.

The workers are blaming the management of the company for the death of a sick staff, Femi Adekola aka Baba Latin who was denied a N20, 000 support for hospital treatment even though his employers owe him six months’ salary.

Another staff, Mr Akinwale Akinjuwon Samson, had to engage the company in a legal battle before his one-year salary was settled after a pronouncement by Justice A.A. Adewemimo of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Akure Judicial Division.

The Judge says in his ruling: “…’a laborer is entitled to his wages’, to deny him the remuneration for services rendered by him is not only wrongful but inhuman. This Court is a court of Law and Equity. See section 14 of the National Industrial Court Act, 2006.”

NewsmakersNG learnt from lawyers representing the community leaders in Ifedore – the Olu Itale Aaye, Chief Fabiyi Adedayo and Prince Peter Adeleye that they have written the Director-General, Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel in Abuja to revoke the license of Francisca Muinat Ltd over environmental degradation.

Pastor Peter Unoaramhi of Cornerstone Anointed Church of Christ (CACC) at 56/57 Nuru Oniwo Street, Aguda- Surulere, Lagos, and his wife – Becky are at the centre of a conflict over the property of the late Chief Felix Olanrewaju Amasha, who stated in his Will that no one should sell his house.
According to Chief Amasha’s eldest child, Mrs Betty Enahoro, three of the children and one beneficiary of the Will decided to act against their father’s testamentary instructions and offered the house for sale, which made Mrs Enahoro institute legal action against them.
She insisted that the house must not be sold against the testamentary guardianships of their late father, who stated in his Will that the children should be celebrating Christmas there every year.
Mrs Enahoro added that while the suit was still on, the pastor paid N65million for the house to her siblings identified as Abayomi, Foluke, Bosun and another beneficiary, Dupe.
She said, “The Church members were later sighted in the house sprinkling anointing oil around the property, which made some of the tenants to park out of the building.
“Currently, three of the six flats in the building are vacant and have been locked by members of Cornerstone Anointed Church of Christ, claiming they have paid for the building, that renovating and documentation is ongoing. Is the CACC above the law so much that they would not wait for the litigation process to come to a logical conclusion?”
Pastor Unoaramhi has been running the CACC for 28 years with his wife Becky aka First Lady, who used to have an acting career at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and played the role of Tinu in the now rested Soap Opera, ‘Mirror in the Sun’.

The Chief Detective

Ayinde Kareem/

When they came out jogging in their estate on Saturday, June 20, Chris Ndukwe and his lover, Olamide Alli presented the picture of a blissful relationship to the world around them.

They have been lovers for seven years and blessed with two children – 7 and 3-year-old boys.

But, no one who saw the loving couple jogging at Victory Point Estate, Ilasan, in Lagos, would ever think their love story would end in a murder-suicide soon after.

The next day, when the world was celebrating Father’s Day, 39-year-old Ndukwe reportedly asked Olamide’s 22-year-old sister who came visiting with her from their home in Ogba a day before to take the children outside. He then locked his woman in, turned on the music, and pumped up the volume.

The noise from the heavy speakers attracted neighbours who called on those managing the estate to step in and appeal to the lovers to take things easy.

Those who came to the house found Olamide’s sister playing outside with the children.

They made their complaint and moved in to see the couple.

When several knocks on the door brought no response, they suspected that there was something wrong. They had to force the door open.

The sight that greeted them was gory.

They found the 25-year-old woman dead in a pool of her own blood, with hands tied and body displaying multiple stab wounds.

Her head had been shaved with a clipper, and then stabbed with a knife.

She was also stabbed in the eyes and all over her body. Two bloody kitchen knives were found on the floor, alongside three empty cans of red bull energy drink, and a plier.

Ndukwe was also found dead.

Investigations later showed that he had...

Sometimes things that need to be done are not done by those who ought to take action.

This is the case of Akaeze town, its people and the inadequate policing of the town.

Akaeze is a border town in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State with external borders with Enugu State via Okpanku and Abia State via Ugwueke, Item, Mkporo.

This places Akaeze in a strategic position of economic and social importance within Ebonyi State and other states.

Almost every conceivable activity thrives in Akaeze, yet the town has no Federal and state government presence especially those that will guarantee the safety of lives, businesses and properties and for these reasons cannot attract other allied developmental projects that make for a robust economy and life.

Akaeze has no Federal tertiary institution, parastatals, Government Ministries, Electricity, good interstate connecting roads, industries etc.
Of utmost importance and that which this article seeks to address is the non-existence of Police patrol visibility and presence and adequate policing of the town as its strategic location suggests and should attract.

Dating from pre-Biafra war and post-Biafra war till date, Akaeze has only a Police post manned by less than five policemen till date. For this and other reasons, no meaningful progress and development has been going on in the town.

1. Banks have rejected all efforts made to bring even one to operate in Akaeze citing...

Oil and water don’t mix, but relationship on Facebook don’t follow that rule always.

In fact, such rule didn’t come into play when a 55-year-old devoted Christian widow, Janet Nnenna Ogbonnaya struck a friendship with a 38-year-old devil incarnate, Johnson Emmanuel, on Facebook.

The Devil and the Angel: The late Janet Ogbonnaya, left, and Johnson Emmanuel
Janet, a mother of five and member of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria in Abuja, had 691 friends on Facebook.

According to the police, she got up-close and personal with Johnson and trusted him enough to pay him a visit.

It was a journey of no return.

Johnson had other plans besides friendship, and he clinically executed his evil plot.

Janet, a native of Ozuitem in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State who was fond of posting Christian messages on Social Media, made her last Facebook post on May 9. She was found missing five days after, along with her Toyota Highlander SUV.

While the family was making all efforts to find her, they received calls from Janet’s mobile phone.

But she was not the person at the other end.

Those who called with her line identified themselves as kidnappers.

They wanted N5million to set their captive free.

When the police received the report, they opened a case file on kidnapping.

Efforts to solve the mystery of Janet’s disappearance paid off when the Police Intelligence Response Unit led by DCP Abba Kyari deployed technology to track her mobile phone.

The trail led detectives to a community 733 kilometres away from Abuja where Janet had gone missing. It is a community in the Eastern Heartland, Imo State, known as Isiekenesi, at Ideato Local Government Area. That kept hope alive that Janet would be brought back home soon.
