THE Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Monday, sacked the member of the House of Representatives, Mr Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde representing Akure South and North federal constituency from the National Assembly. The court declared the seat of the only All Progressives Congress (APC) vacant following his defection from Labour Party (LP) on which platform he was elected. The appellate court ruled that Abegunde did not adhere to the constitutional process of defecting from one party to another. Abegunde popularly known as Abena had defected from the ruling LP to rival APC because of an alleged division in the party. However, apparently wanting to prevent his recall from the House of Representatives, Abegunde through his lawyer, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, sought the protection of the Federal High Court. He asked the court to pronounce that the division within the LP facilitated his defection to the APC. In his originating summons, Abegunde wanted the court to determine whether or not in view of the provisions of section 68(1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, he is not entitled to dump the LP to another party. However, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, filed a counter-claim among others claiming that he should automatically vacate the seat having left the LP that sponsored him into the National Assembly. The lower court however ruled that Abegunde was wrong to have defected from LP to the then Action Congress of Nigeria (AC) thereby declared the seat vacant following which the appellant approached the appeal court to upturn the decision of the lower court. After the exchange of briefs and written addresses by the plaintiff and defendants, the appeal court dismissed the appeal filed by the lawmaker and upheld the verdict of the lower court. Aside from setting aside the written address of the lawmaker, the presiding judge said the appellant had violated section 68 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution and should therefore vacate his seat http://www.tribune.com.ng/news/news-headlines/item/16135-appeal-court-sacks-ondo-apc-reps-member |
This is what I call verbal molestation. Dr Udenta, just ripped APC a new one. |
By Henry Umoru ABUJA – ONE of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign groups, Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) Monday tongue lashed the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the opposition party as a product of political nincompoops and scallywags. Reacting to a statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Lai Mohammed, TAN director of publicity and public affairs, Dr. Udenta O. Udenta, noted that castigation of TAN nationwide zonal rallies by the APC were what he termed, “a classic example of the Talibanization of Nigeria’s political discourse space”. According to Udenta O. Udenta, not only were the information contained in Lai’s criticisms false, but would neither deter them nor succeed in criminalizing their nationwide mass conscientization rallies, adding, “very much like a broken record that repeats a single beat or refrain ad nauseam, the piece is a classic example of the Talibanization of Nigeria’s political discourse space through the deployment of Dark Ages narrative illogical of hate, strife, discord, moral impunity and angst. “TAN does not really have all the time to waste on beings the late Rt Hon Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe described in 1978 as the political nincompoops and scallywags of contemporary Nigerian politics, but spur them not just to take their message to the South East, South West, South South and the North Central geo-political zones, but the remaining two zones. “Lai Mohammed’s primitive tantrums, schizophrenic political mindset; the type that produces a duality of irreconcilable visions, perverse sense of judgment and cess-pit narrative and discursive mode will not deter us from accomplishing our set objective. “The rallies have come to stay and those who don’t like them just have to live with them for the sake of their sanity and move on to other, hopefully, noble political pursuits. Udenta who noted that while they would not be discouraged by the criticisms, the APC was pushing more by “crippled intellectual sterility and strategic imbecility, which have made them incapable of constructing a platform that will give TAN a run for its money, energy and efforts”. He stressed that with over 45 television jingles broadcast over 4,000 times by four of Nigeria’s leading stations, countless radio jingles and over 250,000 copies of its rally brochures containing pictures, facts and figures of President Jonathan’s National Transformation Agenda in living action, they challenge APC or any other group to provide proof to contradict their claims. He said, “Inspite of all the facts we reeled out, we are yet to see just one counter electronic media programming attacking our well-researched documentation of developments occurring in different national sectors in the past three and half years, or just one OP-ED refuting the veracity of our presentations. “What is served us daily from Lai Mohammed’s Verkhovenskian imagination is the torrent of well rehearsed falsehood, empty political prattle, pompous self-enfoldment dressed up as political fact, self-righteous indignation that bothers on pious cant and excess of bellicosity demeaning of a democrat. “As we await just one deconstructive reading of TAN by the APC we will resign ourselves, as Nigerians have already done, to Lai Mohammed’s stale mythologies of politics and power and gross ritualisation of inconsequential political fables which have no bearing to truth. “Lai Mohammed and the APC have made so much noise about the sources of TAN’s financing without providing one shred of evidence to back up the torrents of abuses, insinuations, innuendoes, and outright accusations that flow steadily from their very voluble and fertile imagination. “The fact remains that TAN has neither sought nor received a kobo from the Federal government, all its ministries, agencies or department in executing its programmes and projects. “For those who play politics with terrorism and extremist insurgencies we leave them to their conscience. For those who denigrate the person and office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on a daily basis, no matter the degree of divergence of political opinions and the struggle for power, we leave them in their world of political prodigality, infantile delusions and perfidious political enterprises. “For those who desecrate the homestead abroad in search of vainglorious fame and the accolade of foreigners, we will not call them traitors but we know they are no patriots. The APC would be happier if our national values were turned upside down and “we cease to walk tall and proud as a free people”. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/09/apc-product-political-nincompoops-scallywags-tan/#sthash.SQ9yqfna.dpuf |
BlackTechnology: Thanks for this revelationMining is big business in northern Nigeria. Employs tens of thousands, Boko haram might connections there, I don't have any facts to back it up. Ores like lead ore, zinc ore, columbite ore, tantalite ore etc, have mined and sold from northern Nigeria for years. Creating a source of income for many. The only people loosing out are southerners and government revenue agencies. |
Just talk about oil money and parasitic oil money junkies come crying, what have you done with the monies you've been receiving. CAN YOU TELL US WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WITH THE 87%, YOU KEPT, IN YOUR DIFFERENT STATES. ![]() |
oneeast: I see Bornu as the future cashcow- uranium depositsWhen will that happen? By the way people are already mining and selling Borno Uranium ore, just as they mined and sold Zamfara lead ore. Till, lead poisoning exposed them. |
A state like Borno is about 10th on the revenue allocation list. Yet at the bottom of all development indices. |
size38: Governor Amaechi should relax while we answer Mbu on his behalf. Mbu is so unprofessional as a police officer. Mbu cannot thrive as a police officer in any sane society. It is only countries like Nigeria where the likes of Mbu can think they are so professional. I challenge Mbu to travel out and see how modern police operates. Mbu's pains is his inability to remove Governor Amaechi as directed by his pay master in Abuja and the persistent protest by Governor Amaechi which led to his removal from Rivers state. Shame on Mbu.Can you hold Amaechi to the same standards you want Mbu held. In what sane society will he be Gov? |

Nigeria is considering offers of more than $20 billion for the assets of its national electricity transmission company as it struggles to provide adequate power to Africa’s largest economy, Power Minister Chinedu Nebo said. The sale of state-owned Transmission Co. of Nigeria may start “in a few years,” Nebo said in a Sept. 12 interview with Bloomberg Television Africa in Abuja, the capital. The government will also focus on developing renewable energy projects to diversify its supply of electricity, he said. “The interest now for transmission is over $20 billion,” he said on Sept. 12. “People are coming from everywhere.” Transmission is the only segment of the power industry that the government still controls as it seeks to curb regular blackouts in Africa’s largest oil producer. The country generates about a 10th of the power that South Africa does even though its population of about 170 million is more than three times larger. The government of President Goodluck Jonathan is spending $3.5 billion to boost transmission capacity by 50 percent. Nigeria sold 15 state-owned generation and distribution companies to raise funds. The current transmission capacity of Abuja-based TCN is 5,500 megawatts compared with an installed generation capacity of 8,000 megawatts, Nebo said. This means that if generation companies were operating at full capacity, the grid would be unable to transmit all of the power to homes. The government wants transmission capacity to exceed 6,000 megawatts by 2016, Nebo said. Neglected Coal Power generation is significantly lower than capacity, partially due to problems of transporting gas to power plants. Many companies and individuals are compelled to use diesel-powered generators to ensure adequate electricity. “Gas supply has been a limiting factor,” said Nebo, who is working with Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke to make enough gas available to generation companies to match the transmission capacity by the end of next year. “Nigeria is moving in the direction of trying to have a robust energy mix,” he said. Coal is another resource that could generate 3,000 to 5,000 megawatts of power “in the next several years” after government reclaims unused coal blocks, the minister said. “We are working on making sure those coal blocks are taken away from those who have refused to develop them over the decades and are given to those who can actually develop them,” he said. Canadian Managers Officials are deciding which model to adopt for the company’s sale. Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board of Canada’s three-year management contract ends next year. The process could take the form of a public-private partnership, a concession or a build-operate-transfer, Nebo said. While divesting from most other parts of the power industry, the government is planning to invest more in renewable energy such as solar and hydro power, Nebo said. “The government is very intent on making sure that the renewable energies kick off because we cannot continue to depend on only one or two means to continue giving electricity to our people,” the minister said, citing the planned 700-megawatt and 3,050-megawatt hydropower plants in Zungeru and Mambila. Both plants are in central Nigeria. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-14/nigeria-considers-20-billion-offers-to-sell-transmission |

noblezone: You have succeeded in exposing the fraud called Buhari!!!You have done well, you have exposed the fact, that Buhari is an unemployed free loader.. A criminal, by been part of an instrument used in deposing a democratic elected government. Nothing will forever change this fact. He has ran three campaigns, costing billions to prosecute, yet some brain dead dingbats never question the source of this funds. Unfortunately for them, Nigerians are three steps ahead of them. |
When people fail to respect themselves, they leave themselves open to public ridicule. Amaechi, please get some sense. Mbu, has moved on, worry about 2015 and stop giving your opponents ammunition to constantly shoot you down. |
idupaul: He is learning work forgive am plsI need real bloody pictures, with boko rats blown to pieces. |

The guilt filled ones are screaming already. ![]() |
Whatever kind of script people want to play or act out, they are welcome to it. I hope they know this is not the Nigeria of their fathers. |
Billyonaire: StOla, stop meandering. What stomach infrastructure will surpass the day light donation of a daughter to Amaechi to be impregnated. Was it not for stomach infrastructure ? There is no moral template in Soyinka's understanding of democracy. He can work for any government as far as stomach infrasture is assured, and as soon as he gets enough for the rainy days he jumps out and sings political lullaby. |
