This Barack Hussen Obama's administration has been the worst for Africa since Reagan. They are simply beyond stupidityy. |
By ADAM B. LERNER 3/23/15 11:25 AM EDT National Security Advisor Susan Rice shared a heartfelt message on the passing of Nigerian literary icon Chinua Achebe on Monday morning. The only problem: Achebe died two years ago. “[T]oday is a somber day in Nigeria, as Chinua Achebe was laid to rest in his native village,” Rice wrote. In a following tweet she added “A giant of African lit., he brought the Continent-and Nigeria, in particular-2 the world. His works left lasting impression on me & my gen.” In fact, Achebe died in March of 2013 at age 82 in Boston after a brief illness. In May of that year, an elaborate funeral with trumpeters, dancing troupes and scores of dignitaries honored the author in his native Nigeria. He was then buried in his hometown of Ogidi. Rice deleted the tweets after other users of the social media site pointed out her mistake. She kept other tweets about Nigeria, though, including one calling for free and fair elections that linked to a video of President Obama speaking directly to the Nigerian public. “As they head to the polls in the coming days, the Nigerian people will, as always, find a friend in the United States,” Rice said. Before a stint as President Barack Obama’s first ambassador to the United Nations, Rice previously served as assistant secretary of state for African affairs under President Bill Clinton. Achebe was a harsh critic of corruption in Nigerian government and was often at odds with the country’s president, Goodluck Jonathan, who is currently seeking reelection. Jonathan reportedly wanted to hold a state funeral for the writer but relented in favor of a service in Ogidi. Perhaps best remembered for his 1958 novel “Things Fall Apart,” Achebe is now considered a titan of African literature. TIME magazine included the novel in its list of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005 and Achebe was awarded the 2007 Man Booker International Prize. Achebe was a “freedom fighter,” said the late Nelson Mandela, “in whose company the prison walls fell down.” He was not, however, buried this week. Jarus:What progress? What did Nigeria achieve under 16 years of military rule between 1983-1999. Were does years "liberal setting"? |
deletrue:This is the question this man must answer. How he sat on the side and watch Portharcourt/Rivers stste almost become Beirut. |
APC maggots always lying about simple facts. |
fboycaestro:If you think otherwise, that's your choice. |
Riodiao: We always have the cure for APC witchcraft |
I am expecting the PDP's campaign team, to use this video from United States President as a testament of our 16 years of progress. Obama just handed us a great TV ad for another 5 days. GEJ TILL 2019 |
Eluwilussit:He has been forced to acknowledge Nigeria's progress. The rest is left to us, they also know Jonathan is going to win. |
There is no doubt this election will be historic, because the parasites/rent collectors of 50 years, will finally surrender to one Nigeria. Where the goals are, equal opportunity for all, responsibility from all and a community for all |
Chief O’tega Emerhor will not win his polling booth, ward and local government area of Ughelli north., that's the reality awaiting APC in delta |
MORNDEW:Wait till Sunday next week, mock or online, your meaningful charade will come to an end. ![]() |
Tele Ikuru is a mor0n, he finally decided to jump. Why did you not wait till Sunday, March 29th. You would have shared the disgrace with Amaechi and Peterside. Nonsense, how you people allowed Amachei to turn River state upside down is still a surprise to me. |

bushdoc9919:I was referring to your Peterside comments. BUhari has a better chance of winning Rivers state, than Peterside ever becoming gov of rivers. |
bushdoc9919:In what universe? |
Punch is an arm of the APC media outlets. Good PR job for their party. Just don't cry rigging after March 28th. |
They need to save that water to wash away the blood and tears they are going to spill in their town after Jonathan returns BUhari back to them, humiliated. Just 7 days to ago. Please tell us, if you need more water tankers. |
I see DSS picking up some APC members soon. |

[[s]quote author=ifyan post=31848764]CNNMoney has declared the country as the worst performing economy in Africa. According to the business analysis programme, the country is facing harsh economic realities and a rapid depletion of its reserves. “Nigeria’s currency is trading at a record low against the United States (US) dollar,” it said. “The stock market has slumped 15 percent this year –making it the worst performer in Africa – and financial reserves are being depleted.” In January, CNNMoney had ranked Nigeria next to China and Qatar in its rating of fast-growing economies – a survey based on International monetary fund (IMF) world economic outlook. “By our estimate, the fastest growing economies in 2015 will be China, Qatar and Nigeria. Nigerian economy, growing by 7.0 percent, came after China 7.3 percent and Qatar 7.1 percent,” CNNMoney said in January. The American business news outfit further said the country is experiencing a fall in its oil production capacity, political uncertainty and insurgency. “Nigeria is currently pumping about 1.8 million barrels of crude oil per day, making it OPEC’s 7th biggest producer – alongside Angola,” it added.
