PoliticsChatham House: Stage Managed Show Of Shame By Buhari, APC – Fani Kayode by atlwireles(op): 7:42pm On Feb 26, 2015
By Henry Umoru

ABUJA – PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation has described the appearance of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd at Chatham House, London as a stage managed show of shame.

In a statement by the Director, Media and Publicity of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode, the PDP said that it was quite ironical and absurd that Buhari could go to a foreign land for a debate while he vehemently refused to be part of the debate organised in Nigeria, a country he wants to govern.

Fani-Kayode who requested to know if the APC Presidential candidate remembered to tell the organisers of his alleged romance with members of the Boko Haram said, “It is amazing that a man that refuses to participate in a debate in his own country is so ready to go to a foreign country to sell his message in a desperate attempt to curry favor with the people of that country.

“We wonder whether General Buhari told his foreign audience whilst he was in London how much he loves Boko Haram. We wonder whether he told them that he once said that he believes that ”an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the north” and that the Boko Haram terrorists should be appeased, pampered, resettled and paid allowances.

“We wonder if he told them that he was once nominated by Boko Haram to be their spokesman and representative during proposed negotiations with the Federal Government.

“We wonder if he told them that he was the one that ordered and organised the violent injecting, crating and disgraceful kidnapping of a former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the name of Alhaji Umaru Dikko from the streets of London 31 years ago when he was in power.

“We shall state our views about General Buhari’s stage-managed show of shame at Chatham House at a later date; and, at that time, we shall go into far more detail.

“For now, all we can say is that it is truly pitiful that a former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria believes that it is more important to win the hearts and minds of the British than it is to win the hearts and minds of the Nigerian people.

General Buhari can run to any foreign country in the world to say anything that he likes but at the end of the day the decision as to who will lead Nigeria as from May 29th this year will be determined by no one else but the Nigerian people. The game is on here and not in London.”

Lol, I guess they were been cajoled because of the rate at which there salaries were been paid towards the election period and the largesse been given to the populace.

Now I know Ekiti workers and indigenes are wise, The Apc used the same tantrums in Ekiti, Spending sporadically , cooking, and sharing things, BUT ,they came out and started shouting that PDP won cos of stomach infrac whereas Fayemi spend more than what fayose could ever imagine but lo and behold, They Hve made up there mind to send APC packing.
Bank loans and Rivers state government came with billions. Unfortunately that tap has run dry. Commonsense should have led the voters, they refused and now must live with the consequences.

The results say something else. Just look at what happened in Ado Ekiti. Civil servants dealt Fayemi the final blow in that state.

It's true, But I deduced something that those workers really want a change in government, BUT those osun indigenes no gree at all. Unlike in Ekiti whereas Both workers and the populace sent Apc packing.
APC won 73% of the votes in Oshogbo, that's not civil servants wanting change. They knew what they were getting into.

While Ekiti state workers are now enjoying The real change, there fellow counterparts in osun state are now regretting and wallowing in abject poverty. How I wish osun indigenes had seen the bleeping change coming there way once again, I guess they would have done the needful but it's now too late. It's a pity, just dey use water swallow am for the next 4years. God is your strength.

Conduct another election in Oshogbo today and the difference from the August 9 result is going to be very irrelevant to count.
They were owed monies for months before that election. They are right back in the same spot they were 6 months ago. They bought the drama and propaganda, so they must enjoy the power of their PVC.

Elections have consequences, Osogbo the center of Osun civil servants gave the highest percentage of votes to APC. Enjoy the power of your PVC. Based on January's allocation to states, they are in for a very rough ride. Is not going to get better anytime soon.
PoliticsSharia Limited To Inheritance, Marriage – Buhari by atlwireles(op): 2:17pm On Feb 26, 2015
By Abiodun Alade, @biodunpen
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has said that Sharia law is limited to inheritance and marriage.
“Sharia is limited to inheritance, marriage etc. If anyone wants to change sharia they have to change the constitution: #Buhari at #CHAfrica”
The former Head of State who declared himself fit and healthy to lead the country if elected, also said that he takes full responsibility for whatever happened under his watch as a military dictator in Nigeria between 1983 to 1985. This was part of his address at the Chatham House, London during his speech on Prospects for Democratic Consolidation in Africa: Nigeria’s Transition.
Many electorates have expressed fear that Buhari, if elected, might implement full sharia law in all the states in Nigeria, especially, following media reports in 2001, that he will not stop the agitation for total implementation of the sharia in the country.
“This is the sacrifice the Moslems will have to make and persuade their fellow country men who are non-Moslems to accept. I will continue to show openly and inside me, the total commitment to Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria, God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country,” he said in 2001 at National Convention of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), held at the Arewa House, Kaduna.

Stop peddling untruths.

The 4 countries affected the most by low oil prices are Venezuela, Russia, Iran and Nigeria.
Nigeria is the outlier on that least. Nigeria is not under any biting western sanctions like the other 3 mentioned above and Nigeria is not footing any major socialist or propping-a-dictator program.

Russia is actively fighting in Ukraine, Iran is the backbone behind Assad in Syria, Venezuela has one of the most subsidized socialist welfare program in the world albeit corruptly administered.

Nigeria should not be on that list just like the Arab oil countries or even Angola and other African oil producers. It is gross economic mismanagement and colossal corruption that got us on that list.

Vote our GEJ to stabilise Nigeria

PoliticsTissue Paper-for-venezuelan Oil Swap Offered By Trinidad by atlwireles(op): 3:00am On Feb 26, 2015
(Bloomberg) -- Venezuela, plagued with shortages of basic goods, was offered a reprieve by the Prime Minister of neighboring Trinidad & Tobago: exchange oil for tissue paper.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar suggested an oil-for-tissue swap in a news conference Tuesday following a meeting in Port of Spain with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. She said the deal would benefit both countries.
“The concept of commodity sharing is simple -– the Government of Trinidad and Tobago will purchase goods identified by the Government of Venezuela from T&T’s manufacturers, such as tissue paper, gasoline, and parts for machinery,” Persad-Bissessar said.

In Venezuela, which has the world’s largest oil reserves, citizens line up outside supermarkets for hours seeking a bag of clothing detergent, toilet paper or cooking oil. Price controls and a lack of dollars for importers have emptied stores of many basic goods, a situation Maduro blames on hoarders conducting an “economic war” against his socialist government.
Officials at Venezuela’s Information Ministry declined to comment.
Buffeted by plunging oil prices, Venezuela’s economy will contract 7 percent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund, while inflation, which accelerated to 69 percent in December, is already the fastest in the world. According to the constitution, Maduro must call legislative elections by the end of the year.
‘Political Room’

“Economic recession, high inflation, and growing shortages have weakened public support for the government, likely reducing its political room to introduce difficult corrective economic measures that would improve its external liquidity position,” Standard & Poor’s said in a Feb. 9 report.
While in Trinidad, Latin America’s biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas, Maduro and Persad-Bissessar discussed the commercialization of cross-border natural gas reserves.
Persad-Bissessar presented the swap proposal as a win-win opportunity for the two nations, separated by an 11-kilometer (6.8-mile) strait off Venezuela’s northeast coast.

Tissue paper and other goods “would then be traded for commodities that are needed for our industries –- in particular bitumen and crude oil -– which can be supplied by Venezuela,” she said, adding that “this proposal is at an planning stages, and we recognize that a monitoring mechanism would be key to its success.”

PoliticsOil Slump Threatens Easy Life Of Affluent Norwegians by atlwireles(op): 2:42pm On Feb 24, 2015
STAVANGER, Norway (AP) — Losing his job on a Norwegian oil rig meant more to Kristoffer Sandberg than saying goodbye to a high salary. It has caused a shift down in lifestyle and expectations, something an increasing number of people in this small oil-rich country are facing.

After a decade of an oil and gas boom, plunging energy prices are shaking the Norwegians out of a Utopian reverie that guaranteed workers lengthy summer vacations, generous health and social benefits and allowed them to leave work at 4 p.m. and even earlier on Fridays.

Some of the helicopters that transport workers from Stavanger — the epicenter of the oil industry — to the platforms on the North Sea have fallen silent. Already 10,000 workers have been laid off. It's the start of what economists are predicting will be a long recession in the energy industry, which accounts for 15 percent of the economy, more than half of exports and 80 percent of the state's income.

The Nordic country is being forced to contemplate a future without the certainties of the past.

"I know that people are envious of these conditions elsewhere in the world. We joke about it sometimes," says Sandberg, a 24-year-old mechanic. "But I don't know how many more people will lose their jobs or how much longer it will be uncertain like this."

Sandberg is selling his new S-Class Mercedes and moving to Singapore to help oversee the construction of a new giant oil rig, in the hope of retaining even a bit of his old lifestyle. But he'll have to work longer hours and won't be rewarded with the four week breaks for every two weeks of labor enjoyed by offshore workers here.

Sandberg still feels being born in Norway was like winning the lottery but agrees that the regular, annual ratcheting up of wages was unsustainable.

Last year, the state-run oil and gas company Statoil revealed it paid an average annual salary of 1 million kroner ($130,000) to its 23,000 employees.

Knut Sunde, director of industrial policy at the employers' organization Norsk Industri, says the shake-up for Norwegian workers used to the rewards will be painful, but welcomes the reality check.

"The average Norwegian has just gotten too much. We have a welfare economy and an expectation from youth who expect wealth to come down from heaven," Sunde said. "When we come down to periods like this it comes down to good old values of working hard and competing. A country like Norway needs to go through that."

The barrel price of Brent crude, an international variety of oil, has tumbled from a steady three-year average of around $110 to below $60. At that price more than half the offshore fields being developed along the Norwegian continental shelf are uneconomical.

Rig owners, used to renting their fleets of steel behemoths to eager drillers for more than $400,000 a day, are about to release a glut of speculatively built new models even as the explorers are losing their pioneering spirit. Rigs are idling in west coast ports. More layoffs are expected as companies like Statoil prepare to cut back on spending.

The energy sector's dominance in the Norwegian economy means its troubles will cast a pall over the wider economy. The layoffs will likely hurt the restaurant and hotel sector, for example, as fewer business trips are made throughout the country.

One big positive is that the country saved up a massive $860 billion from oil exports during the good years to protect it against having to make sharp and traumatic cuts to welfare spending. By law, the government is not allowed to spend more than four percent of that money annually, and in practice uses up only the interest.

So for those Norwegians left with jobs, there is no imminent end to the welfare perks like five weeks of annual paid holiday, the highest sickness benefits in the world and shorter working hours than elsewhere.

Rather, it is a question of whether future generations will suffer a shift down in living standards.

Hilde Opoku, the spokesperson for the Green Party, says Norwegians are still blind to the coming change.

"It won't happen overnight, but when we wake up from this oil bubble, we will realize we will never have a fairytale like this again."
