PoliticsMoses Siasia Leaves PDP, Says ‘young People Have No Future In The Party’ by Austindark(op): 5:09am On Aug 22, 2015
The youngest governorship aspirant in Bayelsa state, Moses Siasia
has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, regretting that
young people have no future in the party.
The 35 year-old Chairman of multi-billion naira business empire,
Mosilo Group, in a statement, stressed that the leadership of the
PDP in Bayelsa has isolated him because he chose to champion the
cause of the youths.
“I always wanted to see a PDP that will transform into modern day
realities and a party that places high premium on the YOUTH who
are the engine room of any nation but the more I pushed for youth
inclusion in all affairs of the party, the more I was isolated. There
was always greater emphasis on money politic rather than
ideological prospects. I have carefully watched over the years and
have come to the painful conclusion that the PDP is not ready to
change its old ways of imposition, godfatherism and gangsterism,”
he noted in the statement.
Read full statement below:
For many years now, I have been actively involved in supporting
successive governments in my beloved country Nigeria. I have
always believed that every citizen needs to support their government
for such government to succeed which was why I supported the
governments of late President Umaru Musa Yaradua and that of
Goodluck Jonathan. I had thought that by supporting these two
governments, I would have fulfilled my patriotic duties as a citizen
of my country. I have continuously done my best through my
various contributions towards governance in Nigeria through my
organization “Nigerian Young Professional Forum (NYPF).
I joined the PDP when one of my overzealous cousins went to my
ward to talk about registering me there. I later found the idea to be a
very good one and was excited about the whole idea of party
politics and making a difference.
I continued to be actively involved in party politics from 2013 till date
and the more I got involved in the politics of the party, the more
discouraged I became. I saw that so many things were not been
done properly and I always wanted to advice and make corrections
but the more vocal I became, the more they isolated me, may be
because they felt I was a threat to the business as usual way of
doing things. I always wanted to see a PDP that will transform into
modern day realities and a party that places high premium on the
YOUTH who are the engine room of any nation but the more I
pushed for youth inclusion in all affairs of the party, the more I was
isolated. There was always greater emphasis on money politic
rather than ideological prospects.
I have carefully watched over the years and have come to the
painful conclusion that the PDP is not ready to change its old ways
of imposition, godfatherism and gangsterism.
After the elections, it became very obvious and clear that Nigerians
had rejected the PDP because they were tired of seeing the same old
faces doing the same thing for16years. Faces that the people were
convinced are corrupt and cant bring the desired change to the
people. The people wanted new faces and something new.
The PDP had a clear chance of redeeming its image in the eyes of
the Nigerian people by injecting fresh ideas and fresh faces which
would have automatically rebranded the party and restore
confidence in the party. I had presented myself to the party on many
occasions urging them to use me as that face with a perfect case
for Bayelsa State but the party has failed to take advantage of this
great opportunity.
The PDP had every opportunity to rebrand and rediscover itself after
its defeat at the just concluded general election but I can now see
they do not wish to change or evolve.
I, have, therefore, today the 22nd of August decided to leave the
party for ideological reasons. I can no longer stay on in the party
because they do not have respect for my generation or me. I have
nothing personal with the party and will continue to respect her but I
think young people have no future in the party.

PoliticsPresidency Abolishes Office Of First Lady by Austindark(op): 4:58am On Aug 22, 2015
THE presidency has said that official portfolio was yet to be
assigned to Aisha, the wife of president Mohmmadu Buhari,
overruling what hitherto was known as “First Lady’s
office”. Apparently renaming it “Office of the Wife of the President”,
the presidency however stated that Mrs. Buhari would, for now, be
saddled with women and youth related issues in the country.
The Presidency was reacting to allegations in some Nigerian media
that the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari has moved into the
First Lady’s office in the Aso Villa.
Describing the allegation as totally false and fictitious, the Senior
Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam
Garba Shehu said that even though there was absolutely nothing
wrong with Mrs. Buhari making use of the office space reserved for
the First Lady, she had not done so in her capacity.
Shehu stated that under president Buhari, the office shall be
completely different from what obtained in the past, saying that the
era of the First Ladies issuing oil wells and licenses was gone.
“President Buhari promised that there would be a clear difference
between the role played by his wife during his tenure and that
played by many previous First Ladies. “All that ostentation,
ubiquitousness and arrogance we have come to expect from the
office are over and done with. Change has come.
“The ideal platform from which she will be useful to Nigeria’s
women and children is still being thought out. Once this has been
concluded on, Mrs. Buhari’s role will become clearer to all
Nigerians. There will be nothing shady or hidden about it. There will
be no access to public funds. It will be purely private and
voluntary”, he said.
The presidential spokesman recalled that the time Mrs. Buhari had
to make use of the office was at the beginning of the present
administration.
He added that the meeting during which she hosted the wives of governors was held in a section of the Villa’s banquet hall, not in the First Lady’s office. “Her only visit to that office was at the point of
the take-over of the Villa by the incoming administration.
“Out of respect to Mrs. Buhari, the Sierra-Leonian First Lady, Mrs.
SiaKoroma recently surrendered her position of head of Africa’s
First Ladies to Mrs. Buhari, inviting her to take up the same seat
which Mrs. Jonathan hurriedly handed over a few weeks to the
handover of her husband’s government to President Buhari. Again,
all these things are currently under consideration and no decision
has been arrived at presently,” Shehu said.

Nigeria earned N2.512 trillion from the export of petroleum products
in three months, between April and June 2015, according to data
released Wednesday, by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.

The NBS, in its Foreign Trade Statistics for the Second Quarter of
2015, also stated that Nigeria recorded total merchandise trade of
N4.372 trillion and a trade surplus of N1.4 trillion in the month under
review.

It is instructive to noted that the amount the country earned from
petroleum products sale in the second quarter of 2015, was 56.8 per
cent of the country’s N4.49 trillion 2015 budget.

Also the amount earned from the export of petroleum products
accounted for 57.5 per cent of Nigeria’s total merchandise trade and
87.3 per cent of total export.

In its classification of petroleum products export in the period under
review, the NBS data revealed that the country exported petroleum
oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals and crude oil
valued at N2.121 trillion; liquefied natural gas valued at N260.7
billion, while liquefied petroleum gas and other gaseous
hydrocarbons valued at N66.41 billion was also exported.

Others are: liquefied propane — N43.88 billion, partially refined oil
including crude oil having gone primary refinement —N13.577 billion
and liquefied butanes — N6.15 billion.
Specifically , giving a breakdown of Nigeria’s merchandise trade, the
NBS stated that Nigeria’s total export stood at N2.879 trillion, while
total import stood at N1.49 trillion, thereby, leading to a trade
surplus of N1.39 trillion.
The value of total merchandise trade, according to the NBS, was 0.5
per cent less than the total of ₦4.393 trillion recorded in the first
quarter of 2014 and 34.3 per cent or N2.287 trillion less than the
amount recorded in the second quarter of 2014.
In addition, the report stated that at N2.879 trillion, Nigeria’s total
export appreciated by 8.0 per cent or N214.1 billion when compared
with the value of exports in the first quarter of 2015, while it
represented a decline of N1.8 trillion or 38.5 per cent when
compared with total exports of N4.682 trillion recorded in the
second quarter of 2014.
Continuing, the report stated that, “Other products exported by
Nigeria include vehicles, aircraft and parts thereof; vessels among
others at ₦250.6 billion or 8.7 per cent; Vegetable Products at ₦36.7
billion or 1.3 per cent, and Prepared foodstuffs; beverages, spirits
and vinegar; tobacco at ₦24.6 billion or 0.9 per cent of the totals
respectively.”
Furthermore, the report stated that Nigeria’s major export
destination was India, with export trade of N406.1 billion or 14.1 per
cent of total export.
Other top export destinations in the period under review were: Spain,
Netherlands, South Africa and Brazil with ₦297.4 billion or 10.3 per
cent, ₦296.3 billion or 10.3 per cent, ₦240.9 billion or 8.4 per cent

imports stood at ₦1.493 trillion during second quarter 2015, a
decrease of 13.6 per cent from the value of ₦1.728 trillion recorded
in the preceding quarter.
“Year-on-year, analysis showed that import trade was lower by
₦484.0 billion or 24.5 per cent.
“Nigeria imported goods mostly from China, United States, India,
Belgium and Netherlands, which respectively accounted for ₦336.5
billion or 22.5 per cent, ₦143.6 billion or 9.6 per cent, ₦115.4billion or
7.7 per cent, ₦83.4 billion or 5.6 per cent and ₦ 80.9 billion or 5.4 per
