twoondei: Fantastic post this is. How frequently should you refill your car radiator? I drive a honda accord and I hVe to refill the water like every 5 days. I know this is wey abnormal but I haven't found a solution yet. Definitely their is something wrong with your cooling system. It need no refill often. It is a close system where coolant is not expected to escape regularly. You need to have it check!!! |

Never forget your air induction system as it has grate impact on your engine performance and also the stalling.
Your throttle body should not be left out of the tune up.
Also use a recommended spark plugs as it was advice by Mayor2013.
But note that if the code you get still comes back you need to do a trouble shooting and change the parts if need be, because bad O2 sensor will only dump more fuel into the system which will not be completely burnt and causes carbon build up. The after effect of this is what you are experiencing now. |

With a check engine light on, the best you can do is to run a scan to know what exactly is wrong. Do not allow guess work on your vehicle and also don't let your mechanical tells you the light is normal as your car still move.

Car Talk › Re: My Camry 1994 2.2L (orobo) Now Sucks Fuel by autofixng: 7:11am On Aug 11, 2014 |
Their are so many factors that contribute to high fuel consumption and it all started by; 1. Removal of thermostat: when thermostat is remove, the early cold start in the morning will take a longer time for the engine to attain it's optimum running temperature. As it takes time for the engine to get to this temperature, thus the system will be in an open loop till it attain the normal running temperature. 2. Running of Fan direct: removal of thermostat alone will take a longer period for the engine to attain the optimal running temperature, now the Fan too will also start as you turn on the ignition which takes more time if not even will not allow the engine to get to the optimal running temperature. Once engine did not get to this normal running temperature, the computer will always command the system to be in open loop thereby inject more fuel into the system. 3. A dirty air induction system also has a great impact on your fuel efficiency. 4. Spark plugs also have a role to play in your fuel efficiency as the use if recommended spark plugs will save fuel. |

Car Talk › Re: 2000 Nissan Pathfinder (Toks) Emitting Serious Heat, Pls Help! (Pic) SOLVED by autofixng: 3:15pm On Jul 31, 2014 |
Ikenna351: Innovation4real, You dont troubleshoot a vehicle with viscous fan coupling, exactly the same way you troubleshoot an overheat issue with vehicle with electric fan. If truly your Pathfinder has Viscous fan, then you ought to have ruled out the fan first, as not the culprit. That the fan starts spinning as soon as the engine starts doesnt mean the fan is still good. To know if viscous fan still work or not, try this: 1. Start the car when engine is cold, e.g. first start in the morning. 2. Let the engine idle for more than 30 mins. 3. As temperature gauge gets close to the middle, pay attention to the engine. 4. You will hear a click and the engine sound will drop a little or you feel the car vibrate a little. Thats when the fan has clucthed and start its work. After seconds or a min, you may hear another clique or noise from engine will drop. Thats when the viscous fan clutch has release and fan is free again, even though it will still spin, but not with enough pressure to suck heat out of the radiator. A failed viscous fan will not do the above. Depending on your Viscous fan trigger, you need to be sure the problem is not the trigger. Some Viscous fan are triggered electrically and not mechanically. Such ones will have a brush that does the trigger work. The brush will eventuall wear out and will need to be replaced. Another viscous fan trigger type is the fluid type. The fluid usually is on the part where the plastic blades are bolted. That part that faces the radiator directly. The fluid will sense when the radiator temperature is about to get too high and will magnet the clucth and spin the blades. If there is leakage and the fluid dries up, the fan is dead. If dirt cover the surface of the fan, the fluid wont be able to sense the heat from the radiator and wont do its work when it should, hence, overheating sets in. If I were you, I would clean that fan coupling thoroughly with water, incase dirt is the culprit. I know all these because some Peugeots had both electric and mechanical viscous fan trigger in the past. My ZN3J had the mechanical trigger (Viscous) when i first got her. It failed and i converted it to electric fan. As for your thermostat, its a waste of energy, time and money to remove the thermostat to test if the thermostat ws the culprit. It can easily be tested without removing from the cooling system. But thats for Peugeot systems though. But you could try and see if that helps. Even to test water pump, you may or may not need to remove the water pump to test that. Find the peugeot method in the link below: http://www.peugeotowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8 Since you have removed the thermostat, dont put it back without testing it in a pot of water. Are you sure no one introduced air into the cooling system? Has it been bled properly as it should be done? Find out from Nissparts how your Pathfinder cooling system can be bled or you google it. I only know of Peugeot Method. Good luck! Ikenna You've said it all. @Innovation4real try go through the above test procedure and let's see the result. Also never rule out possibility of internally clogged radiator as it might also be the cause. |

Car Talk › Re: My Car Overheat When Ac Is On by autofixng: 3:46pm On Jul 16, 2014 |
Oboy1: Yes the fan is direct, but for the condition of the radiator, that i will confirm. thanks all the same The fan working direct might not work at the speed it suppose when the Ac is on or it might be weak due to overwork as a result of constant running. You also need to take a very good look at the radiator and the a/c condenser if they have not clogged up with dirts. Flush it if it is dirty. Again on the radiator,it might be clogged up with dirts internally, so best advice is to flush in and out and see if it works if not change the radiator. |
Car Talk › Re: My Car Overheat When Ac Is On by autofixng: 11:29am On Jul 16, 2014 |
autofixng: 1. Is your fan run direct? 2. What is the condition of your radiator? These 2 questions may proffer solution to your overheating problem when you on your ac. Changing your radiator to double cell radiator may actually solve the problem temporarily but create another problem which the effect is not immediately noticed "under cooling" which causes building of sludge in the engine as a result of fuel not burning due to engine running below recommended temperature. Check if your car Ac fan is working and the your radiator is not clogged up with dirt along side with the condenser. labodeolu: I am facing something similar with mine. I had the thermostat removed. The questions raised in the upper quote will help you more rather than focusing on the removed thermostat. The work of the thermostat is to allow the engine to attain its optimum temperature within the shortest possible time in the morning when the engine is cold. Then it remain open throughout the working period of the engine unless the engine is cold that is when it will close. The effect of the thermostat removal has not yet manifested until you have enough sludge build up in the system. |
Car Talk › Re: 2007 Camry Hesitates At Startup by autofixng: 10:29am On Jul 16, 2014 |
tumababa: just saw this online.. Hesitation or misfiring when accelerating. This may be due to a vacuum leak, but it can also be caused by a weak or inoperative accelerator pump in a carburetor, dirty injectors, or even ignition problems such as a cracked coil, worn spark plugs or incorrectly gapped plugs. in my case,4 injectors have been replaced, spark plugs replaced with original denso oem plugs from US, only thing i av not checked is coil and maybe vacuum leak.... looking for someone i can use his coil to test before shedding cash on whats not d issue Your air induction system should be properly checked for leakage and dirts. If the air filter is dirty it might cause the problem as well as dirty throttle body. For the spark plug you need to check the ohm reading as recommended by the manufacturer if it has not drop or use the method you what to adopt. |
Car Talk › Re: Stumbling Car by autofixng: 9:05am On Jul 16, 2014 |
With all you have done you need to check the fuel pressure if it is still within the recommended pressure working range and the fuel pressure regulator. Also u need to change ur air filter if it is dirty. Still try to look for any vacuum leak in the system. If your check light is ON try scan as well. |

Innovation4real: Thnks all 4 ur concern. Sorry 4 my laate reply. Was just tryng 2 recover frm d wknd overheat stress. @adanny01, d water in d rad. hs whirl wind movemnt. @gazzuzz, d fan continues blowng even at d high temperature So what we are saying now is dat d 'suspects' are cooling fan, thermostart, condenser & radiator. Then suggestions as .flush both condenser & rad. Outside dis forum, a mech hs even suggested replacing d rad wt a double-cell rad. .remove therm temporarily 2 confirm if problem persists, etc .reinforce or replace cooling fan if nt blowing optimally. Tho' both condenser & rad look neat & clean by mere physical body inspection: no insect/flies build-up, do I still go & flush them first? So pls hw do I get d green nature of d original rad coolant afta flushng? I really appreciate u guys. Replacing the radiator with a double cell radiator will not solve the problem. Reinforcing your fan as it is advice is equal to running the fan directly with the engine speed which will dome more overheat problem in the traffic because the fan is made to run at different speed in relation to the temperature. You need to look inward to the fan operational mode as well as a clogged radiator internally which cannot be seen. |
Car Talk › Re: Good News For Modern Car Owners by autofixng: 2:08pm On Jul 13, 2014 |
BluStreak: This if from my personal first-hand experience. (sic) No be say person do am come tell me as e be. Is your car running rich - ie consuming too much fuel? Have you lost power in comparison to when you just gott your ride? Does your car drag when you push down your gas pedal? Herein lie the ultimate solution - The MAF sensor. MAF stands for Mass Air Flow. It is a sensor that regulates the fuel/air ratio in a combustion engine. When it has gathered impurity due to dirty air filter, it seizes to function optimally and the result will be lost power and fuel consumption going up. To regain your ride's power and improved mpg, it's time to roll your sleeves and get a lil'dirty. The MAF sensor most often is located inbetween the air filter box and the air inlet pipe of your car on the engine bay. You will need to get it out and clean. To do this you will need; an unadulterated paint thinner, an empty spray can, a 10 socket spanner and a screw driver. Follow ur car's own design and remove the MAF sensor. Put some thinner inside the spray can and spray generously on the MAF sensor's inner component. Pls do not use any hard object to scratch inside the MAF as this could damage it. After spraying generously on the inside sensor's component, keep to dry properly before you re-install. When you are done coupling your ride, take it for a spin and come back later to thank me. @opp, there can be many causes to the symptoms you highlighted in your comment above. But the best you could do is to run a comprehensive diagnoses when experience such problems so that you know where to work on in your car rather than treating headache for a feverish condition. |
