Dating can be a wonderful experience filled with laughter, butterflies, and excitement. You meet new people, go on adventures, and explore all the possibilities that come with a new relationship. However, sometimes, things don’t go according to plan. One moment, you’re texting and chatting with someone you really like, and the next, they disappear without a trace. This phenomenon is known as “ghosting,” and it can leave you feeling confused, hurt, and abandoned. Ghosting has become more common in recent years, especially with the rise of dating apps and online communication. It’s a frustrating experience that can leave you questioning your worth and your ability to connect with others. In this article, we’ll dive deeper into why people ghost and how to move on if it happens to you. We’ll explore the different reasons people choose to ghost, how it can affect the person being ghosted, and provide tips for moving on and healing. Whether you’re currently experiencing ghosting or have in the past, this article will provide you with the tools and support you need to move forward and find love again. Why Do People Ghost? There are many reasons why someone might choose to ghost. One common reason is that they simply lost interest. Maybe they realized that they weren’t as into the relationship as they thought they were, or they found someone else they were more interested in. Instead of having an awkward conversation about their feelings, they choose to disappear. Another reason people ghost is that they’re afraid of confrontation. Having a conversation about why they want to end things can be uncomfortable and difficult, so they opt for the easier route of simply disappearing. They may also be afraid of hurting the other person’s feelings, so they choose to avoid the conversation altogether. Bayern said they don't regret their decision and they would have still hired Tuchel |
In March, the football landscape was stunned when news broke that Bayern Munich had sacked Julian Nagelsmann and replaced him with Thomas Tuchel, ex-Chelsea coach. Football is really unpredictable and Nagelsmann’s sack is probably the height of its unpredictability. The German tactician may have raised eyebrows in the Bundesliga — which has been dominated by Bayern Munich in recent years — but that should not take the shine off his stellar records. The 35-year-old qualified Bayern for the Champions League quarter-finals without losing a single game, edging heavyweights such as Barcelona and PSG in the process. More so, Bayern only lost three games under his watch this season before his unfortunate sack. In a statement announcing his sack, the club said he was fired because the team was playing “less successfully and less attractively”. “FC Bayern München has released head coach Julian Nagelsmann. This decision was taken by CEO Oliver Kahn and board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić in consultation with club president Herbert Hainer,” the club had said. “Nagelsmann will be succeeded by Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel will receive a contract until 30 June 2025 and will supervise squad training for the first time on Monday. “When we signed Julian Nagelsmann for FC Bayern in the summer of 2021, we were convinced we would work with him on a long-term basis – and that was the goal of all of us right up to the end. “Julian shares our aspiration to play successful and attractive football. But now we have come to the conclusion that the quality in our squad – despite the Bundesliga title last year – has come to the fore less and less often. “After the World Cup, we have played less successfully and less attractively. The big fluctuations in performance have cast doubt on our goals for this season, but also our goals for the future. “That is why we have acted now. Personally and on behalf of FC Bayern, I would like to thank Julian and his coaching team, and wish everyone the best of luck for the future.” If reality is anything to go by, the club’s decision was rash and there are ample instances to justify that. On Wednesday, Bayern were dumped out of the UCL by Man City in a humiliating manner. Read More: https://www.crispng.com/karma-at-work-bayern-munichs-ucl-exit-shows-nagelsmanns-sack-was-an-error/ |
Another day, another nightmare. Chelsea’s free fall continues at an unimaginable dimension. On Tuesday, the Blues suffered another defeat as they were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) by Real Madrid. The defeat makes it four in a row for the club under Frank Lampard. It also makes Lampard the first manager in the club’s 118-year history to lose his first four games in charge. Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Wolves in Lampard’s first game of his second stint in charge and that was followed by a 2-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. Last weekend, the club lost 2-1 at home to Brighton in the league before their UCL elimination by Madrid on Tuesday. It is difficult to understand what is wrong with Chelsea at the moment. “Everything,” Oluchi Eze, a sports analyst, said when asked what she feels is Chelsea’s current problem. Oluchi is not the only one disappointed by the club’s dip in form this season. “I don’t recognise my club,” Didier Drogba, Chelsea legend, told Canal+ after the club’s UCL exit. “It’s no longer the same club. There is a new owner and a new vision. Of course, we try to compare it with what happened during the [Roman] Abramovich era where a lot of players were brought in, but the decisions were very intelligent,” he added. “Bringing in players like Petr Cech, Andriy Shevchenko, Herman Crespo, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, and I go on. It was done to win titles. They are players with a certain experience. The strategy is now different; we bet on young players. But a dressing room of over 30 players is difficult [to manage] for a manager.” Read Full Article Here: https://www.crispng.com/worst-record-in-118-years-chelseas-free-fall-continues-under-lampard/ |
Hookup culture has become a prominent topic of discussion among the youth, with many wondering about its effects on modern relationships. In simple terms, hookup culture refers to a societal shift where casual sexual encounters, often outside the bounds of a committed relationship, have become the norm. This shift has had a profound impact on the way people approach dating and relationships, and it is worth exploring the impact of hookup culture on modern relationships in greater depth. The Origins of Hookup Culture To understand hookup culture, it’s important to consider its origins. Historically, sex and dating were seen as interconnected, with the goal of a romantic relationship being to establish a stable partnership with someone. However, the sexual revolution of around 1970s to 1990s changed this dynamic, leading to a culture of sexual liberation where casual sex became more acceptable. Fast forward to the 21st century, and the rise of dating apps and social media has facilitated the spread of hookup culture. With the swipe of a finger, users can browse through potential partners and arrange a casual sexual encounter without any long-term commitment. The Impact on Modern Relationships While hookup culture has provided many people with a way to satisfy their sexual desires without the pressures of a committed relationship, it has also had significant impacts on modern relationships. Here are some of the ways that hookup culture is changing the way we approach dating and relationships: Casualness is the Norm With hookup culture, casual sex has become normalized, and many people view it as a standard part of the dating process. This can lead to a lack of emotional investment in relationships, and a focus on physical pleasure rather than emotional connection. Fear of Commitment Hookup culture can also lead to a fear of commitment, with many people avoiding serious relationships in favor of short-term flings. This can be problematic for those seeking a long-term partner, as they may struggle to find someone who is looking for the same level of commitment. It gets more interesting Read Full Article Here: https://www.crispng.com/origin-dangers-safety-tips-what-you-should-know-about-hookup-culture/ |
On Sunday, many expected Arsenal to bounce back from their disappointing 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Such expectations are a measure of the standard Mikel Arteta’s side have set for themselves this season. The game against struggling West Ham United started on a promising note — just like the Liverpool encounter. Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard ensured a 2-0 lead for the Gunners ten minutes into the game. But the game ended in another disappointment as West Ham staged a dramatic comeback to end the match 2-2. The highlight of the game was Bukayo Saka’s penalty miss. The Hale End graduate stepped up to the spot at a key moment in the London Stadium clash, with Arsenal 2-1 in front, but his effort from 12 yards was fired wide. This is certainly not what many Arsenal fans expected from their beloved team at the moment. After years of heartbreaks and frustrations, this season appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for the fans. The 2023 general election will not be forgotten in a hurry, particularly for the youths. It was an election that saw many young ones challenging the status quo while recording significant feats in the process. From the presidential to governorship, national assembly and state assembly elections, the youth made a strong statement — we are critical to nation-building. CRISPNG examines some young ones whose heroics in the general election will keep dominating discussions for weeks to come. Their victories, to a large extent, will inspire other youths to dream big and overcome long-held fears that politics is only for the old money-bag politicians. Bashir Usman Gorau — 33-year-old unionist On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bashir Usman Gorau as the winner of the house of representatives election for Gada-Goronyo federal constituency in Sokoto state. Gorau, who ran under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 29,679 votes to defeat Musa Adar of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Not many saw that upset coming prior to the election. For context, Adar has been in the green chamber since 2007 — which means 20 years in office — and was seeking a fifth term. But he only managed to garner 25,549 votes, which placed him behind Gorau. Gorau, who is known as a unionist, was the immediate past commissioner for youth and sports development in Sokoto. In a Facebook post, the rep-elect appreciated God and his supporters for making his victory possible. Musa Lawan Majakura — the 32-year-old history maker Running against Ahmed Lawan Mirwa, the speaker of the Yobe state house of assembly, certainly is not something easy on paper. Mirwa, who is representing Nguru state constituency II, has been in the state assembly for 20 years. He was on the verge of securing another term of four years. But 32-year-old Musa Lawan Majakura of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was determined to brace the odds. And he won. Majakura scored 6,648 votes to defeat Mirwa of All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 6,466 votes. Expectedly, his victory has elicited optimism for young ones in Yobe’s political ecosystem. Few, if any, saw it coming. The appointment of Frank Lampard to replace Graham Potter has continued to generate ripples among football pundits as well fans, and understandably so. It is difficult to come to terms with the rationale behind Lampard’s choice from an economic and football point of view. There are many questions begging for answers. But decisions are there to be made and risks to be taken. Chelsea have called the shots. The conversation now is over the likely impact of Lampard’s appointment as caretaker manager on Chelsea’s already shambolic season. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Lampard_Leeds_2020_b.jpg In a statement announcing his appointment, the club’s owners — Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali — said: “We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a Premier League Hall of Famer and a legend at this club. “As we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season. “We want to give ourselves every chance of success and Frank has all of the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line. ‘We have an important game against Wolves on Saturday and then we will turn our attention to our Champions League quarter-final in Madrid next week. We are all going to give Frank our full backing as we aim to get the best possible outcome from all our remaining games.” Chelsea are enduring one of their most difficult seasons in history. Currently out of the top 10 on the English Premier League (EPL) log, the club appeared clueless and bereft of ideas to salvage their wobbling run. And this is a major reason many are not excited about Lampard’s return. There is no doubt Lampard remains one of Chelsea’s greatest players in history. A leader on and off the pitch, he led the club to many titles and dazzled fans with his mesmerising dribbles and surreal goal-scoring ability as a player. However, the same cannot be said of him as a coach. His failed stint as Chelsea’s manager between 2019 and 2021 is still fresh in the memories of many. Lampard is far from a top coach at the moment. He still has a long way to go to become a coach to be reckoned with. That Everton fired him amid relegation fears not long after he was appointed showed he is no quick fix for Chelsea at the moment. He may be loved by many Chelsea fans — one of the major factors that influenced his appointment amid growing anger among the fans — but he offers no quality, at least on paper, that guarantee Chelsea will end the season on a high note. “In truth, Lampard’s managerial career has been on a downward trajectory since he guided a youthful Chelsea squad to a top-four finish at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, despite a transfer embargo,” Goal’s Krishan Davis wrote. “It is a nice story, and the best outcome would be for him to pick up some decent results, haul the Blues out of mid-table and leave after a job well done and with his reputation restored. “But there are huge question marks over whether he has the experience or quality as coach to do what Potter and Thomas Tuchel before him failed to.” Read Full Article: https://www.crispng.com/chelsea-take-huge-lampard-gamble-will-it-pay-off-or-backfire/ |
Every four years, Nigerians head to the polls to elect leaders to serve them at federal, state, and local government levels. The electioneering process has been keenly contested by political actors over the years. Unlike previous elections when Nigerians were limited to two major political parties — the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) — the 2023 general election witnessed a third force with the emergence of the Labour Party (LP). The emergence of the third force, led by Peter Obi, LP’s presidential candidate, gave the people more options to vote for their preferred candidates at the polls. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Nigerian-immigrants-e1680685278442.jpg Several factors made Obi a significant force during the elections. The APC pushed forward the same faith (Muslim-Muslim) ticket of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima which did not sit well with many Nigerians, particularly Christians. The PDP also flouted its own rules by not zoning the presidency to the southern part of the country. After eight years of northern presidency, the PDP were defiant and presented Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The foregoing made many embrace Obi’s LP as an alternative to the PDP and the APC. The former governor of Anambra state had selected Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Kaduna-born businessman and scholar, as his vice-presidential candidate. Many perceived Obi-Datti’s candidacy as a balanced and equitable ticket as well as a departure from the status quo in the country’s political landscape. Months before the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) promised Nigerians credible, free and fair elections which will be guaranteed by its innovation — the Bimodal Vote Accreditation System (BVAS). Nigeria has had 24 years of uninterrupted democracy with four successive governments of Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yaradua, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and now Muhammadu Buhari. But fears that such could be disrupted have become rife in recent weeks. On Wednesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) announced there was a ploy by some political actors to install an interim government in the country. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/230228211900-bola-ahmed-tinubu-221115-scaled-e1677751071285.jpg In a Twitter post, the agency said the planners of the insurrection have weighed various options which include to sponsor endless violent mass protests in major cities to warrant a declaration of state of emergency and to obtain frivolous court injunctions to forestall the inauguration of new executive administrations and legislative houses at the federal and state levels. “The Department of State Services (DSS) has identified some key players in the plot for an Interim Government in Nigeria. The Service considers the plot, being pursued by these entrenched interests, as not only an aberration but a mischievous way to set aside the constitution and undermine civil rule as well as plunge the country into an avoidable crisis. The illegality is totally unacceptable in a democracy and to the peace loving Nigerians,” the statement reads. ”This is even more so that the machination is taking place after the peaceful conduct of the elections in most parts of the country. The planners, in their many meetings, have weighed various options, which include, among others, to sponsor endless violent mass protests in major cities to warrant a declaration of State of Emergency. Another is to obtain frivolous court injunctions to forestall the inauguration of new executive administrations and legislative houses at the Federal and State levels.” What is Interim Government — and why are Nigerians talking about it? Interim government, also known as a provisional government or a transitional government, is an emergency governmental authority set up to manage a political transition generally in the cases of a newly formed state or following the collapse of the previous governing administration. Provisional governments are generally appointed and usually happen either during or after civil or foreign wars. Interim governments maintain power until a new government can be appointed by a regular political process, which is generally through an election. On Monday, the Super Eagles of Nigeria settled for a narrow 1-0 win over the African Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau in their second leg group ‘A’ AFCON qualifiers. The unconvincing victory had come a few days after the team lost the first leg of the encounter at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. for context, the defeat was Nigeria’s first to Guinea Bissau in 42 years. As expected, the game heightened doubts around the ability of Jose Peseiro to inspire the Nigerian side to glory. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Nigeria_coach_Jose_Peseiro-e1680004111665.jpg Data show Peseiro has managed 11 games as Super Eagles coach. Out of this, he has won only 4 and lost 7. The Monday game exposed his weaknesses in his team characterised by poor tactics and lack of team spirit. Nigerians have continued to express their disappointment with the poor results under the Portuguese so far. In a Twitter post, MillsRx wrote: “We scored from the penalty spot, we did not score from open play. We still have a lot of work to do, but the most important thing is that we won the gameIt’s good we got 3 points today, but I believe we could have gotten 6. We need to open the attack more so more players can get involved. It looked like Chukwueze was trying to win it by himself. Simon did good to score the penalty, but we could have done more with 58% possession”. Similarly, Japhet Drollz wrote: “There is so much wrong in this Super Eagles team, yet there’s so much talent. These guys are doing well at club level but when playing for the national team, they fail to perform. First, I think there is no motivation because the coach is only trying to build a CV which he is known for” The big question is what is really the problem of Super Eagles: the coach or the players? By Fareedat Taofeeq Love is a powerful emotion that has the potential to transform our lives in countless ways. From experiencing the joy of companionship and intimacy to developing a greater sense of empathy and compassion, healthy relationships can be a major source of happiness and fulfillment. By Fareedat Taofeeq Long-distance relationships have become increasingly common in recent years. Whether it’s due to work or school, more and more people are finding themselves in relationships where they can’t be physically close to their partner. While these relationships can be challenging, they can also be incredibly rewarding if you’re willing to put in the effort. Here are some tips and advice for maintaining a healthy and happy long-distance relationship. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/images-2023-03-25T094149.689.jpeg Communication is key One of the most important aspects of a long-distance relationship is communication. Without being able to see each other every day, it’s crucial that you and your partner make an effort to stay in touch. This means not only texting and calling regularly, but also making time for video calls and voice calls. It’s important to be honest and open with each other, too. The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed the election of Ademola Adeleke as governor of Osun. On Friday, the appelate court set aside the verdict of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which sacked him from office. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/download-2.jpeg The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced Adeleke secured 403, 371 votes to defeat Gboyega Oyetola who polled 375,027 votes during the election held on July 16, 2022. But at the tribunal, justice Tertsea Kume, chairman of the three-man panel, held that the governorship election did not comply with the Electoral Act, thereby invalidating Adeleke’s victory. Tertsea said that there was indeed over voting in six local government areas in the state. Not satisfied with the judgement, Adeleke appealed the verdict. Reactions have continued to trail the latest appeal court ruling, with Oyetola likely to take the case to the supreme court. There are fears in some quarters if Adeleke can win the case at the supreme court, should the matter gets to the apex court. Such fears were informed by similar experience in 2018 where Adeleke lost out at the appeal court and supreme court respectively. THE 2018 EXPERIENCE Adeleke was the candidate of the PDP during the 2018 governorship election in Osun where he lost to Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC). At the time, INEC had declared Oyetola the winner of the election after a rerun in September 2018. The much-awaited governorship election has come and gone. The exercise, held on March 18 alongside the state house of assembly election, took place in 28 states across the country. As expected, the outcome of the election has continued to elicit reactions. But how did the various political parties fare in the election? The guber election was contested by several parties. However, the four major political parties include the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Rising insurgency and attacks in the northern part of the country has left several people dead and displaced thousands of families. Zamfara is one of the crisis-ridden states in the throes of bandits and terrorists. In this report, CRISPNG’S JABIR RIDWAN details how helpless communities in the state still live at the mercy of bandits — despite paying N70 million levy yearly to the attackers for safety. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Screenshot_20230309-160335.png Gummi local government area (LGA) in Zamfara state was once a peaceful place where residents go about their daily activities without fear. From farming activities to trading, the area was popular for its boisterous atmosphere. But not anymore. The LGA, situated in Zamfara West Senatorial District in northwestern region of Nigeria, has become a shadow of itself. These days, killings, kidnappings among others forms of evils have become the norm in the area with many living in fear. The local government is one of the hotbeds of terrorists locally known as bandits. Residents of the area, who spoke with the reporter, said they have endured various degrees of attacks by armed criminal groups. They also said the assailants usually invade their communities in groups and mostly come at nights and in the early hours of the day. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG-20230210-WA0003.jpg The attackers, according to residents, often operate for hours unhindered despite the heavy presence of security agencies in the area. Gummi LGA is home to the Divisional Police Headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), headed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) S.P. Mahmud Rayyanu. It also houses operatives of the Nigerian Armed Forces headed by a Sector Commandant as well as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) led by the Divisional Officer (DO). The officer In-charge of the Department of State Security Service (DSSS) and Staff of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) also stay in the local government secretariat. In addition, there are armed vigilante groups within Gummi metropolis as well as in villages and communities across the LGA. WHY ATTACKS ON COMMUNITIES IN GUMMI LGA ARE INCREASING Security pundits linked the attacks on villages and communities in Gummi to some factors. Gummi shares border with Bukuyum LGA, which has more dreadful cases of terrorists’ attacks. Bukuyum is home to various camps operated by bandits. It also accommodates about four major armed criminal groups’ camps namely — Fasagora, Akawo, Kairu, and Gando. The armed criminal groups are known for their notorious activities in Bukuyum which include imposition of levies on residents, kidapping as well as killings. However, due to the fact that many residents of the area have been impoverished by the terrorists and no longer have cows to give when attacked, the assailants are shifting attention to Gummi. This, security pundits, said informed the rising attacks on Gummi communities. A similar scenario played out in Danko-wasagu LGA of Kebbi state which also shares land border with Bukuyum. Another factor was the split between factions of Bello Turji and Dillun, the two most notorious armed criminal group leaders in the state. Following their messy split, new factions sprang up in Tabarga and Guyuddu forest areas of Gummi LGA. As a result, Gummi’s forests became their hideout from Nigerian Air Force air strikes. TEARS, ANGUISH, DEATH THROES — RESIDENTS LAMENT RISING ATTACKS Kidnapping has become the fastest growing enterprise in Nigeria, especially in the largely ungoverned territories in the northwestern part of the country. Attacks on communities in the region are on the rise. In April 2022, the son of Ibrahim Mamman Tsafe, commissioner of security and home affairs in zamfara state, was shot dead by bandits. The attackers reportedly opened fire near the commissioner’s residence in Tsafe town, Tsafe LGA, killing his son and three persons while a few others suffered gunshot wounds. In May 2022, residents of Dargaje community in Zarummai ward, Bukuyum LGA, woke up to fresh attacks by unknown gunmen resulting in the dead of two people while scores were kidnapped. Weeks before the attacks, 16 people were killed when gunmen also overran Ganar-Kiyawa village in Bukuyum LGA. A resident of the community, who preferred anonymity, said the bandits stole their money and rustled unspecified number of cattle during the attack. In June, bandits again stormed the residence of ex-accountant general of Zamfara, Alhaji Abubakar Bello Furfuri in furfuri community, Bungudu LGA of the state, and abducted nine members of his family. Months later, the bandits released a viral video showing the abducted daughters of the ex-accountant general wearing arms and ammunition on their neck while the abductors threatened to force them into crime if the ransom demanded is not paid. In the video, the young girls were seen clutching anti-aircrafts guns, AK 47, LMG and other firearms. The girls were eventually freed by the bandits after seven months in captivity. In an interview with BBC Hausa, the victims said “only five among us were allowed to bath five times in five month while in captivity”. HOW RESIDENTS PAY N70M LEVY YEARLY TO BANDITS TO AVOID BEING ATTACKED It was a day like any other. The sun shone and the birds chirped before gunshots shattered the atmosphere. Shehu Abubakar knew his community has come under fresh attack by bandits. Shehu, a resident of Dargaje Community, which is 27 kilometre away from Bukkuyum LGA, described the security situation in the area as “deteriorating”. The visibly sad resident noted that all their belongings had been diverted into paying ransoms for their safety. “it’s about 4 month now that we’re experiencing criminal attacks. In May 2022, bandits attacked our village. On that very day, they killed one and abducted three women. They took them to Tsafe in one bush called ‘Dajin yan kara’ but at that time only one was able to escape,” he told CRISPNG. “They spent about 8 weeks before they gained their freedom, and they killed my cousin in person of Bala Musa, a father of 11 and husband of two. “They also destroyed our shops worth millions of naira and raped our women which is the most unfortunate and disheartening crime happen to us. “During such attack, they (bandits) usually divide themselves into various groups and spread themselves across communities such as Hwarnanawa, Kulumbutu, Tudun Gwandu, Birnin Waje, and other affected villages within Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara state”. Shehu further told CRISPNG that Dargaje village is home to about 200 houses which are now desolate due to the raging insecurity. “Almost all the people in the village have fled for their safety,” he lamented. Shehu recalled that bandits also killed Bello Umar, a 57-year-old father of 13 with two wives. Dargaje ward in Bukkuyum is naturally blessed with land for farming. The area is a truism of the slogan of the state — farming is our pride. The residents, who are mostly farmers, plant maize, millet and beans during rainy season while they usually plant tomatoes and pepper during dry season. “We can’t sleep at the night when its harvesting period due to fear of being attacked by bandits. We had to sacrifice some of our farm produce to bandits as we have no options,” Shehu said. The villagers said they once initiated ways of defending themselves since help was not forthcoming from the government. “Our village have paid about 12 million levy to bandits. I myself contribute with some percentage and still the incessant attacks continue”, Shehu said. Data by Gummi Emergency Nutrition Response Project gave a breakdown of levies paid to bandits by communities between July and December 2022. The report puts the total levies paid within the period at N70,930,000. ‘BANDITS KILLED MY GRANDCHILD’ The attacks across LGAs in the state have taken a huge toll on residents. Bayi Rabi’u, a mother of three from Rijiya Gidan Doka District in Gusau LGA, said in early 2023, about 20 women were kidnapped in their village. The 56-year-old told CRISPNG: “We left our homes due to fear of attacks about three weeks without any intervention from the government. We were afraid that’s why we fled our homes to Gusau for our safety”. Bayi revealed that recent gun battle between security operatives and bandits in Rijiya community led to death of people. “On 6 January 2023 about 10 unidentified people lost their lives, my grandchild Kabiru was also killed by bandits at Geba village. There are still people displaced. They also killed one Dan Wugit while some are hospitalised, about three days we couldn’t find a place to sleep and nothing to eat,” she said. Despite the situation, residents said the state government has not provided any camp for the internally displaced persons (IDPS). Due to absence of government-approved camps, the IDPs live in abandoned buildings or anywhere they find refuge. HOMELESS AND HOPELESS Hadiza Sani from Qura Ward in Rijiya District, Gusau, is among those affected by the raging insecurity in the state. Hadiza described the situation as “disastrous”, adding that it has left many of them “homeless and hopeless”. “We are in terrible condition, we don’t know where to go, I have about six children, and we have lost many people in our community. It is about three years now that we are facing security challenges. We hope to go back to our homes when peace is restored,” she quipped. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG-20230210-WA0004-e1678373895444.jpg Hadiza said many of the children are suffering from starvation as their parents find it difficult to make ends meet. She added that the situation has made some of the IDPs vulnerable to all kinds of vices such as prostitution, drugs, and thuggery. Hauwau Lawali, another resident displaced by insecurity, opened up on her ordeals and journey to IDP camp. “We are internally displaced, and many people flee from their homes. We cannot afford to pay rent or provide food for ourselves and our children,” she said. The state government had on numerous occasions condemned the activities of the terrorists in the area. In June 2022, the government ordered citizens to take up arms and defend themselves against bandits. The government also banned motorcycles in some parts of the state to tackle insecurity. But the attacks lingered despite the directives by the government. FEAR OF DISENFRANCHISEMENT Due to the raging attacks, many residents of the affected communities lamented inability to vote as the country holds its general election. CRISPNG understands that about one-third of 3,142 polling units across 147 wards in Zamfara will not be available for election due to insecurity. Gummi, for instance, has about eleven political wards among which include 206 polling units. But with the worsening insecurity in the area, it is survival first for many of the residents at the moment — not election. Will peace ever return to their communities? https://www.crispng.com |
By Fareedat Taofeeq Politics in Nigeria has always been a spectacle to anticipate due to the controversies that characterise each election season. The 2023 general election is not an exception. There have been heated conversations around the country’s presidential election and the three major candidates — Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Bola Tinubu https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/images-2023-03-10T181417.036-e1678697868950.jpeg The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the president-elect. The declaration, however, was greeted with intense backlash, with many alleging irregularities in the process that produced him as winner of the presidential election. Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed suits contesting the victory of the former governor of Lagos at the polls. As the conversations around the presidential election gradually fade away, the attention has been turn to the forthcoming governorship election holding in many states across the country. Lagos is considered a major battle ahead of the guber election holding on March 18, with Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivor (GBV), candidate of the Labour Party (LP), dominating discussions. Rhodes-Vivor is seeking to defeat Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the incumbent governor, who is pursuing a second term in office. The election was initially considered an easy task for Sanwo-Olu of the APC but the dynamics have changed since Obi defeated Tinubu to win Lagos during the president election. While GBV is arguably the man of the moment, not many know a lot about him. To this end, CRISPNG examines a few things to know about the Lagos LP guber canditate. Born into a family of lawyers GRV was born to Barrister Olawale and Mrs. Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour on March 8, 1983, in Lagos State. He was born into a family lineage that is far from ordinary. His father is a Barrister and his mother is a former Supreme Court of Nigeria justice and jurist. His uncle is Bode Rhodes-Vivour, and his grandfather is the late Judge Akinwunmi Rhodes-Vivour. Notably, he is also the great-grandson of Steven Bankole Rhodes, Nigeria’s second indigenous judge. Growing up, GRV attended Chrisland primary and secondary schools until JSS3 before moving to Paris where he completed his secondary education at Ecol Artive Berlin. Politician Turned Activist GRV may be a name that you haven’t heard before, but he’s been quietly making waves in Nigeria’s political and social landscape. While nursing his political ambitions, he has been very active in advocating for causes that impact Nigerians. As the convener of Nigerians Against GMO, an NGO organization, GRV campaigns tirelessly against the proliferation of genetically modified foods in Nigeria. In 2017, he spearheaded a 2,000-person march to the Senate to raise awareness about environmental deterioration. But that’s not all. GRV was also an active participant in the 2020 #EndSARS protests, joining forces with thousands of other Nigerians to call for an end to police brutality and corruption. Graduate of MIT He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Nottingham and a Master of Architecture degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2008 after his first masters. He later attained a second Master’s degree in Research and Public Policy; from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Political Journey GRV is not a total novice in the political landscape of Nigeria. Starting his political career in 2017, Rhodes-Vivour contested the Ikeja Local Government Area chairmanship under the KOWA Party (KP) but lost to his rival at the polls. In 2019, he contested for the senate seat to represent Lagos west under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This time, he came second in the final polls, losing to Adeola Yayi Olamilekanola of the APC. GBV is bi-ethnic Rhodes-Vivour’s lineage is a unique blend of Igbo and Yoruba heritage. His mother hails from Anambra state and is of Igbo origin, while his father is a Yoruba man. Following in his father’s footsteps, Rhodes-Vivour also married from his mother’s homeland. His wife is Dr. Ify Rhodes-Vivour, a molecular geneticist and the daughter of Augustine Aniebo, a former military administrator of Kogi and Borno states. However, despite his multicultural background, Rhodes-Vivour has faced criticism from some political figures who have accused him of promoting an Igbo agenda in Lagos state. Femi Fani-Kayode, a member of the APC presidential campaign team, is one of his vocal critics. Fani-Kayode alleged that Rhodes-Vivour is aligned with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and seeks to replace Yoruba traditional rulers with Igbos. However, Rhodes-Vivour has consistently refuted these claims and identified himself as a true Lagosian. He proudly proclaims himself to be an “Omo Eko Proper,” which translates to an authentic Lagos native. The Peter Obi factor Rhodes-Vivour was not a popular name in the Lagos guber race until Obi’s heroics in the presidential election where he defeated Tinubu in Lagos — a state the president-elect had politically dominated for years. Many believed GRV’s sudden popularity is based on his ability to ride on Obi’s movement. The guber candidate enjoys massive support from the youths — who are becoming impatient with the PDP and APC. Can GRV pull a surprise at the polls and defeat Sanwo-Olu? Time will tell. https://www.crispng.com |
Nigeria’s most competitive presidential election since 1999 has come and gone. Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the controversial election held on February 25, 2023 with a total of 8,794,726 votes. He defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who polled 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/230228211900-bola-ahmed-tinubu-221115-scaled-e1677751071285.jpg On Wednesday, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented a Certificate of Return to the president-elect and Kashim Shettima, the vice-president elect. However, controversies have continued to trail the election. The PDP and the LP, among other opposition parties, have vowed to challenge the outcome of the election in court, citing irregularities in the process. For many Nigerians, the election was anything but credible. Last Saturday’s election was one of the most-anticipated in recent years — and for many reasons. In the first place, many Nigerians — particularly the youths — want good leadership. This is due to the myriad of challenges currently facing the country. Nigeria is faced with increased poverty level, insecurity, poor health infrastructure, ballooning out-of-school rate, and lingering unemployment. The eight-year administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has done little to salvage the situation. The foregoing, therefore, increased interest of many Nigerians in the election. But if the mood across cities in the country after Tinubu’s victory at the polls is the anything to go by, it clearly shows the popular candidate did not win. Many predicted Obi would win the election. To thousands of youths, the former governor of Ananmbra state is a shift from the status quo and possess the leadership acumen to inspire the country to greater heights. Some Final year students of Kwara State College of Nursing, Oke Ode, have expressed dissatisfaction over being accommodated in unhygienic environment by the school management. The 55 students nurses (44 females and 11 males), who are on their three weeks clinical posting to General Hospital Ilorin, said that, they were supposed to be at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Oke Oyi, for their practical procedures. https://shopenonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/FB_IMG_1660853080882.jpg https://shopenonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/PSX_20220818_203457.jpg Some of the students in their utterances said, “we arrived Ilorin on Sunday and there’s no place for us to sleep. We were drenched by rain, some of our electronic gadgets spoil and all our efforts to contact the Provost who is our coodinator was in futile.” “On Sunday night, the Muslims among us slept at the mosque of General Hospital Ilorin and the Christians slept in the Church of the Hospital.” The students further revealed that, the Provost came on Monday to issued a building, which they said, does not have windows, doors, also lacks adequate water and electricity supply. SHO PEN ONLINE correspondence, whose attention was drawn to the development, on Tuesday visited the building where the students were accommodated, located at Agbo Oba off Surulere in Ilorin, Kwara state capital. Our correspondence, gathered that the building is close to a drainage, in which refuses where dumped in. However, the students under the condition of anonymity in their different utterances said, “This area is not convenient for us as a health practitioner, we use water coming out from the toilet to cook, look at refuse dumped there, its is harzadous to our health.” “In this time of kidnappers, look, the windows are not covered, the doors are not good and the floor has no tiles, carpet or rug. We just lay our bed on bare floor to sleep.” “Some of us have to sleep in the kitchen due to our population, more than 5 persons with their luggages managed to keep themselves in a room.” Also, the students complained about the distance from their place of accommodation to the Hospital, saying that the distance might be hindering them from being present when they are on night shift. The students in their numbers however, pleaded with Kwara state government and ministry of Tertiary education to intervene in the matter. As at time of filing this report, efforts to reach the provost of the college was prove abortive. https://shopenonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/PSX_20220818_203613.jpg https://shopenonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/PSX_20220818_203545.jpg https://shopenonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/PSX_20220818_203813-768x576.jpg https://shopenonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/PSX_20220818_203847-768x577.jpg Source: https://shopenonline.com/kwara-college-of-nursing-students-cry-out-over-unhygienic-hostel-accommodation/ |

By Genevieve Aningo Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) season seven housemate, Chibueze Iyele Desire Okoebor simply known as Hermes, recently revealed that he is that he is polyamorous. He explained that he is in a fulfilling relationship with two women of different races and both women are aware of each other. He adorned both women as amazing queens. The Delta state born expressed, “the template of the partnership relationship I have with my partners’ is called generally a polyamorous relationship”. Hermes lauded that his affair gives him and his women freedom to do whatever they desire even though they are not single. ‘’But the kind of polyamorous relationship that attracts me to my partners is such that the three of us have the same freedom”, he added during the show’s unveiling on July 24th. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/images-2022-07-28T064125.025.jpeg Likewise, another recent rave of this affair was in 2021 when Willow Smith daughter of famous Hollywood couple — Will Smith and Jada Pinkett revealed that she is polyamorous during the family’s show — Red Table Talk. Willow said she is into it because of the freedom such a relationship brings. Definition and history Polyamory has two syllables ‘Poly’ and ‘amor’. While ‘Poly’ has a Greek root meaning ‘many’, ‘amor’ is from Latin root meaning ‘love’. By implication, polyamory is literally many loves. For one to be Polyamorus, it entails the individual has multiple partners at the same and all multiple partners are aware of one another. Polyamory is a team relationship with more than two partners with mutual knowledge of all partners. By Fredrick Nwabufo Former President Olusegun Obasanjo used to be a chimera. His influence was mythical, yet sweeping. In the past, Nigeria was too small to contain his stature — as he dominated the horizons across Africa and beyond. He lived up to his legend of being a human Orisa. He is, perhaps, still one of the most respected leaders out of Africa. But Obasanjo’s influence within Nigeria appears to have ebbed over the years. His words seem to have lost lustre and his presence vacant of command. Perhaps, when a masquerade comes out to perform all the time, and sometimes without an invitation, it loses its allure and charm. From 2007 (after he left office) up until 2014, Obasanjo had his wonder and thunder. His position on national matters mattered and was sought after. His missives were denominated ‘’letter bombs’’ for their sheer quality to inflict maximum casualty on the target and sway public opinion. In 2013, former President Goodluck Jonathan suffered ‘’casualty’’ from one of Obasanjo’s missives. Obasanjo wrote an open letter which technically put a nail to the re-election bid of Jonathan. https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/images-2022-07-28T065711.156.jpeg In the letter titled ‘’Before it is too late’’, Obasanjo accused Jonathan of many malfeasances. He said: ‘’Allegation of keeping over 1000 people on political watch list rather than criminal or security watch list and training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his own killers, if it is true, it cannot augur well for the initiator, the government and the people of Nigeria.’’ He also accused Jonathan of cleaving Nigeria apart – along the weak seams of north-south and Christian-Muslim. According to him, Jonathan was favouring and promoting his Ijaw kin to the disadvantage of other Nigerians. Obasanjo’s letter was well-celebrated. It was held up as a definitive and summary verdict on the administration of Jonathan. Obasanjo himself was hailed for his ‘’courage and forthrightness’’, and for his audacity to look power in the eye and spit the truth. But all of that changed after the 2015 elections. The director general of Asiwaju Tinubu Presidential Campaign Organisation, Adebayo Shittu, has claimed that Muslims make up 65% of the southwestern part of Nigeria. Shittu made the claim on Tuesday when he appeared on Focus Nigeria, an AIT show. His comment had come amid the backlash trailing the Muslim-Muslim ticket of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Tinubu, who is a Muslim, had earlier announced Kashim Shettima, former governor of Kano state, also a Muslim, as his running mate. The development has continued to attract intense backlash with the Christian Association of Nigerian and others kicking against the move. But speaking on the show, Shittu dismissed the criticisms. According to him, “in the South-West of Nigeria, the Muslims constitute an average of 65%” of the population. When asked if his claim was based on fact or projection, he said, “I don’t tell lies. You can investigate. Do your research.” Read Full News: https://www.crispng.com/south-west-predominantly-muslims-we-make-up-65-of-its-population-tinubu-campaign-dg-claims/ |
