RomanceHow To Deal With Rejection by Awesome6s(op): 5:48pm On Jul 01, 2023
Handling rejection can be challenging, but it’s an inevitable part of life. Here are some strategies to help you navigate and cope with rejection:

1. Acknowledge Your Emotions: It’s natural to feel hurt, disappointed, or frustrated when facing rejection. Allow yourself to acknowledge and experience these emotions. Give yourself permission to feel, but avoid dwelling on negative emotions for an extended period.

2. Gain Perspective: Recognize that rejection is not a reflection of your worth as a person. It’s often a subjective decision based on specific circumstances or preferences. Reframe rejection as an opportunity for growth and learning rather than a personal failure.

3. Don’t Take It Personally: Try not to internalize rejection as a judgment of your character. Remember that everyone experiences rejection at some point, and it doesn’t diminish your value or potential. Separate your sense of self-worth from the specific outcome.

4. Learn from the Experience: Reflect on the situation and identify any lessons or insights you can gain from it. Ask yourself what you can learn or improve upon for future endeavors. Use rejection as a chance to grow, adapt, and develop resilience.

5. Seek Support: Reach out to supportive friends, family, or mentors who can provide encouragement and perspective. Sharing your feelings and experiences with others can help alleviate the emotional burden and provide valuable insights and guidance.

EducationWorld Communication Library On Fire, Where Is Professor Lai Oso? by Awesome6s(op): 12:10pm On Jun 26, 2023
By Aondover Eric Msughter

It has been difficult for me to script this tribute in respect to a distinguished and accomplished scholar, Professor Lai Oso. The shocking news with the caption “Renowned Communication Professor, Lai Oso, is Dead” literarily sent me to coma. Haaaa! Prof. Oso now been referred to in the past, I still cannot comprehend it!! Please, do not be surprised if you see me carrying a lantern in broad daylight!!! Just know that I am searching for Professor Lai Oso or another Lai Oso. O death, where is thy sting?

Professor Oso was an embodiment of pure love for humanity, devoid of any hidden and selfish tendency. He took everyone as his son or daughter, and embraced all and sundry without discrimination as to tribe, religion, and status. Professor Oso was a scholar per excellence, a symbol of hope and integrity in the field of media and communication across Africa, nay globally. He was a distinguished achiever, an accomplished scholar, and a goal-getter. He would never give up on pursuing any goal he had, especially when it concerned students, which he doggedly struggled for until his last breath.

https://www.crispng.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/images-43.jpeg

There was hardly any accredited Department of Mass Communication or professional organisation in Nigeria and beyond, that did not have something to do with him. It was either Prof. Oso taught you in class, he taught your lecturer, or he was your external examiner. He was a well-respected scholar in the academia and beyond. He had been exceptionally helpful to my professional advancement. I learnt and benefited in many ways from him. Apart from helping me to expand my circle of friends, he spurred me into action. At the time I was reluctant to write, he literally forced me to do so, and at the time I wanted to rest for hours, he drummed into my ears the futility of leaving my potentials locked up in my brain, which significantly stimulated and sustained my desire in scholarship.

My encounters with Prof. Oso on many occasions where he led in public lectures were life-enriching. His relationship with students was consistently excellent, which is another legacy that should instruct all of us. He always wished the students to be greater than their lecturers in life achievements and many students loved him for that. Indeed, we will miss Prof. Oso’s handshake, goodwill, advice, and smiles that would uplift anyone’s spirit. He was a peerless scholar whose linkages and connections traversed the Nigerian landscape. He was a great teacher, an intellectual and great scholar of sobriety and integrity, and a professor whose imprints are all over the world.

Anyone who belonged and still belongs to Prof. Oso’s school of thought and ideology cannot be associated with laziness, evil, wickedness or maltreatment of students or indifference to what affects the people. He not only spoke about injustice against students but did something about it whenever he got to know of such. He was humble, highly detribalized, and an unrepentant stickler for modest living style. May the Almighty God grant the soul of Prof. Lai Oso eternal rest. You were a great scholar who served the discipline well. Adieu Professor Lai Oso.

BusinessHow NGO Is Giving Succour To Victims Of Terrorists Attacks In Sokoto by Awesome6s(op): 2:13pm On Jun 19, 2023
By Aminu Alhussaini

In recent years, communities in Sokoto state in the northwestern part of the country have come under attacks from terrorists amid raging insecurity.

The development has led to the death of many and displaced several families. The victims of the lingering attacks are faced with harsh realities — pains, hunger, poverty, and unbearable trauma.

Goronyo local government area (LGA) is one of the areas worst hit by the insecurity, orchestrated by terror groups locally known as bandits.

Others LGAs are Gada, Gwadabawa, Illela, Isa, Sabon Birni and Tangaza. Amid the ensuing melee, many are fleeing their homes to seek safety in other areas.

It is understood that about 50,000 residents from 17 affected communities in Sabon Birni are currently taking refuge at Dan Dadji Makaou, Shadakori and Garin Kaka villages in Maradi, Niger Republic.

In its report, the UN said the insecurity in Sokoto has displaced 71,289 persons and caused the cross-border movement of 80,900 refugees.

HOMELESS BUT NOT HOPELESS

Khadija Umar, 40, had a close shave with death but she was lucky not to be killed during repeated attacks by bandits on her community located in Isa LGA of Sokoto.

But her husband and other relatives were not lucky. They died during the attacks.

Umar fled her community at the time and now resides in one of the IDP camps at Ramen Kura within the metropolitan area of Sokoto state.

PoliticsStudent Loan Bill: Game-changer For Youths Or Disaster In Disguise? by Awesome6s(op): 2:08pm On Jun 19, 2023
Recently, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed into law the Student Loan Bill. The initiative is geared towards providing interest-free loans to Nigerians seeking higher education through Students Loan Fund (SLF).

The bill, which was first introduced in 2016 as part of measures towards addressing the funding gaps in the country’s tertiary education, was sponsored by Femi Gbajabiamila, the immediate-past speaker of the house of representatives and newly appointed chief-of-staff.

The establishment of an education bank as aided by the bill will provide students of Tertiary institutions with loans starting September, 2023 with repayments to begin after graduation as promised by the president in his manifesto prior the election.

“We will institute a pilot student loan regime…this will expand access to education to all Nigerians regardless of their backgrounds,” he had written in his manifesto titled ‘Renewed Hope’.

“At the same time, this will give institutions the ability to charge more cost-reflective tuition fees. Because of the current employment rates and other conditions, the loan program will have a maximum limit any student may borrow and must have flexible repayment provisions.”

Poor funding has been an issue that public tertiary institutions have been struggling with. The frequent strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strikes are of that problem.

The budget for education in 2022/2023 was N1.18 and N1.79 trillion respectively which falls below the annual education budget standard set by UNESCO for developing nations.

CelebritiesINTERVIEW: I Grew Up Without My Dad’s Presence, Bassey Daniels Unveils Debut Mov by Awesome6s(op): 1:51pm On Jun 19, 2023
Bassey Daniels is a writer, content creator, and a boychild advocate. The first child of his parents; he had his primary and secondary education in Akure before proceeding to study Business Administration at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

Bassey practically spent all his life in Ondo State before moving to Lagos in 2019 where he met the love of his life.

In this interview with CRISPNG, he talks about his career and his debut movie — ‘The Absentee’ — which talks about fatherhood as the world celebrates Father’s Day.

CrispNG: Please, tell us about ‘The Absentee’ and what inspired it

Bassey: The Absentee is the story of a boychild who lived all his life seeking to meet his estranged father before it gets too late. It takes us on an emotional journey that shows us that teaches the importance of the father-son relationship. The story is inspired by true life events. This is the reality of many children across the world, not just in Nigeria or Africa. I grew up without the presence of my dad and I know how it affected my growing up.

He passed just shortly after we reconnected and started getting close. It remains the saddest event of my life; what if we had reconnected earlier? What if he was present? A lot of what ‘ifs’. After his demise, I thought I wasn’t going to miss him but now, after seeing how much we shared in those few years, I miss him so much. Everyday, I wish he was here to see the man I’ve become and becoming.

CrispNG: What are the take homes from the movie and what should people expect?

Bassey: No child deserves to live without the presence of a father figure. No matter how old you become, that void can never be filled. More importantly, I want people to see how important it is for a boychild to have a father figure in his life. Most dysfunctional boys out there have no father figure in their lives. It’s high time fathers start changing the narrative. You are more than a provider.

CrispNG: Tell us about your journey to the big screen?

Bassey: It was my dad who brought the writer in me to life during the short period we spent together. I’d sent him text messages from time to time. One day, he called and just before we ended the conversation, he asked if I was a writer. I told him no and asked why. He went ahead to tell me that I had a way with words and that I should consider that path.

RomanceWhy We Should Promote Non-judgmental Conversations Around Virginity by Awesome6s(op): 3:01pm On Jun 09, 2023
The concept of virginity and its perceived importance varies across cultures, religions, and personal beliefs. It is important to recognize that perspectives on virginity can differ significantly from person to person.

While some individuals and societies place value on virginity for various reasons, it is also important to acknowledge that others may not view it as significant or may have different beliefs altogether.

In some cultural or religious contexts, virginity is associated with notions of purity, honour, or moral values. It may be seen as a symbol of modesty, faithfulness, or adherence to traditional values. Some individuals may choose to prioritize maintaining their virginity until marriage for personal, cultural, or religious reasons.

It is crucial to respect individual autonomy and personal choices regarding matters of sexuality and virginity. It is also important to remember that one’s worth or value as a person is not determined by their sexual history or virginity status.

Everyone should have the right to make decisions about their own bodies and sexual experiences based on their own values, beliefs, and desires, free from judgment or pressure.

It’s essential to foster open and non-judgmental conversations around sexuality, promote comprehensive sex education, and support individuals in making informed choices about their own bodies and relationships based on their personal values and well-being.

CareerMeet Ogechi Nwonye, The Environmentalist Leading Fight Against Climate Change In by Awesome6s(op): 2:56pm On Jun 09, 2023
Hers is a truism of the saying — where there is a will, there is a way.

Ogechi Nwonye, the Enugu-based environmentalist, waste recycler & social entrepreneur, is one of the brave Nigerians creating solutions instead of complaining about the problem.

Years ago, she was perturbed by the menace of plastic waste in the country and how such affects the environment.

“Over the years, I have come to the realization that we are surrounded heavily by Plastic Waste and we churn out even more as the day goes by,” she wrote on her Twitter page.

Then, she decided to start a movement against it. This inspired her to establish Eco-Cyclers — a social enterprise focused on health and environmental initiative.

Since then, Nwonye has continued to blaze the trail, sensitising people about the dangers of plastic pollution and leading the fight against climate change.

Typical of every noble course, the journey has not been a walk in the park for the environmentalist. But with sheer determination, she has been going strong against the odds.

In this chat with CrispNG, Nwonye reflects on her drive to achieve a clean, safe, and sustainable environment in the country.

Tell us briefly about yourself

My name is Ogechi Nwonye. I am an environmentalist, waste recycler and social entrepreneur based in Enugu state, Nigeria. I am a wife and a mother of three

What do you consider your feat so far?

My major feat was when I started my startup — Eco-Cyclers.

What is your most challenging moment?

My most challenging moment was in 2021 when I had to start afresh a new startup from my previous one.

PoliticsCrispng Parliament: Is Tinubu On Right Track As Nigeria’s President? by Awesome6s(op): 2:50pm On Jun 09, 2023
Bola Tinubu was recently inaugurated as Nigeria’s president. With almost two weeks in office, CrispNG samples the opinions of Nigerians about his administration so far.

Crispng: On May 29, Tinubu was inaugurated as president. Since then, we have had subsidy removal, planned strikes, and inflation of prices — what is your assessment of his administration so far?

Okuneye Tosin

His first week in office has been chaotic. It’s not looking like the signs of a good government which was what most people expected. Talking of subsidy removal, on paper, it might be the best way to go, but then the responsibility of any government is to take care of the citizens, to make life easy for your citizens either through the short-term or the long-term goals and now it’s not looking like it. Everyone is saying that in the long term, the subsidy removal might be good. Although the removal was not his doing, it was already stated that it was going to be removed at a particular time, he just announced it, but how he did it has led to this hardship. There’s this picture of his wife sitting through a meeting that she wasn’t meant to sit through, or the appointment of Gbajabiamila as the chief-of-staff, so many controversies, so many red flags for just the first week in office. In my opinion, there were no signs of anything good in the first week.

Francis Blessing:

I expected the person who announced to us that he was going to remove the fuel subsidy no matter what to have done his assignment well, and if he truly loves Nigerians as he claims, he should have thought that this decision should not be taken early without any prior plan. In the first week, we have experienced something very close to a regime, his first speech shows that he’s ready to work, but the experience in the first week has shown that he might not have the plans needed to back up his actions because this is not what those who voted for him were expecting, they were expecting something like a good life right after his emergence and we who were against him knows that that’s not going to happen, and if this thing goes on like it’s this, I don’t think that it is good.

James Ojo

For me, it’s a mixed reaction. When we have a new administration in power, there’s this kind of joy of atmosphere that we expect across the country. The man doesn’t have the people’s goodwill, which he needs to correct, the way he started shows that he isn’t ready to correct that or attract the goodwill of the people, because he hasn’t been engaging the people as he should.

FamilyEndangered, Traumatised — Harrowing Tales Of Nigerian Children by Awesome6s(op): 12:39pm On May 27, 2023
The foundation of every human on earth begins from childhood. We all might never make it to adulthood, but a good majority have the opportunity to experience childhood before death.

You would agree with me that one’s childhood goes a long way in shaping their perspective of life and attitude towards life. They serve as the foundation of the country, thus how effectively they are raised will determine how the country develops.

It is on this note that the Children’s Day celebration is commemorated both locally and internationally. In Nigeria, it is celebrated on the 27th of May every year.

According to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, a child is any person under the age of 18.

Children’s Day gives everyone of us an inspirational springboard from which to advocate for, advance, and celebrate children’s rights, resulting in discussions and deeds that will create a better future for kids. It serves as a reminder that every child deserves the finest possible upbringing, health care, protection, education, and support.

On the contrary, one in every five of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria. UNICEF disclosed that despite being free and required by law, 20 million children in the country between the ages of 5 and 14 do not attend school. Only 61 percent of children aged 6 to 11 attend primary school on a regular basis, while only 35.6% of kids from 36 to 59 months receive early childhood education.

The National Child Labour Survey study in Nigeria was comparatively conspicuous. 15,027,612 children, that is, 7,812,756 boys and 7,214,856 girls, are classified as working children overall. Research shows that poverty is a significant factor in determining the prevalence of child labour.

Highlights from the 2022 Multidimensional Poverty Index survey of the National Bureau of Statistics show that: 133 million people in Nigeria (63%) are multidimensionally poor.

As opposed to the significance of this celebration, a lot of Nigerian children still go through several forms of abuse today. Child victimization and subjugation are serious issues that require our attention and collective efforts to address.

FamilyChildren’s Day: Ways To Boost Your Child’s Confidence by Awesome6s(op): 12:30pm On May 27, 2023
Boosting a child’s confidence is an important aspect of their overall development. Here are some strategies you can employ to help boost a child’s confidence:

1. Provide unconditional love and support: Show your child that you love and accept them for who they are, regardless of their achievements or failures. Make sure they know that your love is not conditional upon their performance.

2. Encourage their strengths: Identify your child’s strengths and encourage them to pursue activities that align with those strengths. When they excel in a particular area, provide positive reinforcement and praise their efforts.

3. Set realistic goals: Help your child set achievable goals that are within their reach. This will give them a sense of accomplishment when they meet their goals, which in turn boosts their confidence.

4. Encourage independence: Give your child opportunities to make decisions and take responsibility for their actions. This fosters independence and shows them that you trust their abilities.

5. Teach problem-solving skills: Help your child develop problem-solving skills by encouraging them to think critically and find solutions to challenges they encounter. This instills confidence in their ability to handle difficult situations.

RomanceIs Sex Enough To Sustain A Relationship? by Awesome6s(op): 10:41am On May 22, 2023
Sexual compatibility and a satisfying sex life are undoubtedly important aspects of a romantic relationship.

However, relying solely on sex to sustain a relationship can be problematic for a few reasons listed below:

1. Emotional Connection: A strong emotional bond is a fundamental pillar of a healthy relationship. While sex can create intimacy and enhance emotional connection, it is not sufficient on its own. Emotional connection involves sharing thoughts, feelings, and experiences, as well as providing support, understanding, and companionship. Neglecting these emotional aspects can lead to a shallow and unsatisfying relationship.

2. Communication and Compatibility: Relationships require effective communication and compatibility in various areas, including values, goals, interests, and lifestyle choices. These factors contribute to the overall compatibility between partners beyond the physical aspect. If a couple struggles to communicate or lacks compatibility in these areas, relying solely on sex will not address those underlying issues.

3. Longevity and Changes: Over time, relationships evolve, and individuals change. Physical attraction and sexual preferences can also change with age, health issues, or other factors. If a relationship is solely based on sex, it may struggle to adapt to these changes and challenges. Building a strong foundation beyond the physical aspect allows couples to navigate these changes together.

NYSCNYSC @50: Should The Scheme Be Scrapped Or Sustained? by Awesome6s(op): 11:58am On May 19, 2023
On May 22, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will mark its 50 years of existence. The scheme was established on May 22, 1973 primarily to foster unity among Nigerians following the devastating impact of the 1967-1970 civil war on the country.

By its design, the scheme was also introduced to prepare fresh graduates for life after school by equipping them with entrepreneurial skills to become self-employed and contribute to the accelerated growth of the national economy.

In recent years, however, the scheme has come under intense scrutiny, with many questioning its relevance. While some argue that the scheme is no longer relevant and should be scrapped, others contend that it should be sustained.

In this edition of CrispNG Parliament, we guage the opinions of Nigerians and the arguments surrounding the scheme ahead of its 50th anniversary.

Here is what those sampled had to say:

Otti Augusta

I think that the NYSC scheme is both helpful and worthwhile. It’s important for the nation being that the goal of NYSC is to integrate nation, to promote unity among the different parts of the nation in that we are diverse people bound together by circumstances and now have to become one and I feel that it’s fulfilling that role for which it was originally slated for.

It should be sustained and improved. It should get better with years and not worse, because people get the opportunity to experience and explore other parts of the country, which is a beautiful way of uniting the nation, so, in that aspect I feel it should be sustained.

I was looking forward to experiencing something new and NYSC did that for me, as I was posted to Bayelsa. I met a new people, culture and language and I had to start learning some things that I was not used to. it was beautiful and I will just summarize my experience to be majorly good, the best part being that I met amazing people who have turned to family for life.

I’ve had the opportunity to be in leadership positions through the NYSC period. I learnt a lot having served as the vice president of my CDS group, as well as serving in Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF); the religious body which I affiliated myself with and it was just a wonderful experience for me seeing young people coming together to do things by themselves. We had to figure how to live, how we were going to survive, and that’s the point of it.

RomanceWhy Women May Find It Difficult To Get Husband by Awesome6s(op): 11:38am On May 19, 2023
Getting a good partner to settle down with can be a tough process for both men and women.

People’s experiences with relationships and finding a life partner can vary greatly based on individual circumstances, preferences, and cultural contexts. While some women may face challenges in finding a husband, it is essential to recognize that this is not a universal experience for all women.

Moreover, the notion of finding a partner is complex and multifaceted, and it cannot be reduced to a single factor or explanation.

That being said, it is worth considering a few factors that some women might encounter in their search for a husband:

1. Societal expectations and gender roles: Traditional societal norms and expectations can place pressure on women to conform to certain gender roles, including getting married and starting a family. This can create a sense of urgency or anxiety for women who do not conform to these expectations or who face societal pressure to find a partner.

2. Shifting gender dynamics: In recent years, there has been a significant shift in gender dynamics and expectations within relationships. Women are increasingly pursuing education, careers, and personal goals, which can lead to different priorities and timelines for marriage. Some women may find it challenging to find a partner who aligns with their goals and supports their aspirations.

CelebritiesANALYSIS: Seun Kuti’s Assault Saga Shows He Needs Character To Be Like Fela by Awesome6s(op): 10:59am On May 19, 2023
Seun Kuti, the last child of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has been in the news for allegedly assaulting a police officer who is now said to be in coma.

The incident, which took place on May 15, has continued to elicit intense outrage. The singer has also turned himself in to the police after being placed under arrest.

For long, Seun’s antics and activism have seen many likening him to Fela, his father.

Seun has since been a strong fan of his father’s musical and political heroics. In his heyday, Fela, a spirited freedom fighter and activist, was a nemesis to the government.

He constantly spoke truth to power and fought societal ills such as corruption, human rights abuses among others through his music.

The late Afrobeat patriarch’s songs were packed with social and political messages. He was known for being vocal against the oppression of the military government in the late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s with songs which resonates with the people till this day including ‘Zombie’ and ‘V.I.P’.

Fela also took strikes against world powers with songs like ‘Beasts of No Nation’. The legend who was arrested 200 times due to his activism believed that it was for a good course.

In a 1986 interview with SPIN magazine, Fela said: “I believe in higher forces. I believe that suffering has a purpose. I cannot suffer like this for no reason. I’m not working for any selfish reason or ulterior motives. I’m working for the improvement of my fellow man.”

Like his father, Seun has toed a similar path. He joined his father’s band just at the age of nine. In November 2020, he also led the revival of Movement of the People, the political party founded by his late father, with the goal of giving power back to the masses.

Seun has always seen himself more of an activist than a musician. “I am a revolutionary first, and a musician second…if I had to choose one or the other, that is…,” he declared in an interview.

SportsWorn-out And Clueless — Arsenal’s Dramatic Decline Shows They’re Title Pretender by Awesome6s(op): 12:23pm On Apr 28, 2023
Wednesday’s clash between Manchester City and Arsenal was touted to be the biggest game of this year’s English Premier League (EPL) season.

But at the end, it was a huge gap between expectations and reality.

The match will dominate discussions for weeks to come, and expectedly so.

It was a game that saw Arsenal literally relinquished their long-held title bid to City.

Both teams were a stark contrast of each other on the night. City were symptomatic of a side desperate for success — compact, highly motivated, and clinical in front of goal.

Arsenal, on the other hand, appeared worn-out, clueless and generally unsure of their abilities and what’s at stake.

Although City were the favourites to win the game given the results of their recent meetings, no one — including the writer — expected it to be a walk in the park for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and John Stones handed the defending champions a comfortable 4-1 victory.

“Man City’s last 12 Premier League games against Arsenal: WWWWWWWWWWWW. This is what you call dominance,'” says Israel Igiri, a sports analyst.

If anything, the game was a reality check for Mikel Arteta’s young and ambitious side.

It also demonstrated that they have been largely title pretenders — to the chagrin of fans, who obviously had high hopes for the season already.

At the most crucial stage of the season, Arsenal are crumbling. They lack the monster mentality required of champions to navigate the odds.

RomanceHakimi Saga: Examining Fairness In Divorce Settlements When Love Fades by Awesome6s(op): 12:15pm On Apr 28, 2023
Morocco international and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player, Achraf Hakimi, has been trending since news of his messy separation from Hiba Abouk, his estranged wife, surfaced online.

In March, Abouk announced that she had separated from the footballer after two years of marriage, adding they are awaiting formal divorce proceedings.

She explained that the separation preceded a March 2 announcement by the Nanterre prosecutor’s office that the footballer was being investigated for the rape of a 24-year-old woman.

“The reality is that a while ago, after much reflection, the father of my children and I decided to end our relationship, long before the recent media events involving me, which are external,” she said.

The dust around their split was based on reports that Abouk requested over 50 per cent of the football star’s assets as divorce settlement in her petition.

Hakimi was rumoured to have put all his assets in his mother’s name some years back and therefore has no money or property to his name.

It was also claimed that being the richer partner in the union, 50 per cent of Abouk’s income and properties would go to Hakimi.

But the viral claims were found to be false, according to an investigation by DUBAWA, the fact-checking organisation, which showed that the information originally emanated from a parody account.

In spite of this, the development has been generating ripples on the internet, with many men supporting the narrative and talking about going the ‘Hakimi way’. Some Twitter users even named him ‘Man of the Year’.
