America will not designate a group as terrorists unless the group is clearly seen to be using "organised violence" to achieve a political goal. America takes terrorism very seriously, unlike Nigeria. In 2017 when the government declared IPOB a terrorist organisation, IPOB was neither armed nor killed anyone. America was amongst the first countries to say IPOB was not a terrorist organisation

Another thing is that America is likely to have kept record of the many years(2015 - 2020) that IPOB was unarmed and peaceful but the Nigerian security forces arrested, illegally detained, dehumanised, tortured and killed hundreds of their members. Injustice might mean nothing in Nigeria, but it means a lot to the American government. IPOB on the other hand, has consistently denied any wrong doings, terrorist groups usually do not deny acts of terrorism committed by them

So anyone thinking that America and the international community will designate IPOB a terrorist organisation because of some pockets of violence and a few videos, is living in dream land. If anything, the international community is likely to see IPOB as the ones being persecuted, and that the violence is a result of years of injustice meted out to the group

But even if for some reason, America desgnates IPOB a terrorist group, what problem will that solve? It will not take away the feeling of injustice, inequity and marginalisation.
