GistMore.com Alaba Ultimate is a musician who does Juju music among other genres. The singer has been doing what he loves most, singing and entertaining people for over 20 years. Based in New York, United States, the father of three who leads the New York Ultimate Band, is set to release his sophomore album titled, Breakthrough. In a chat with Saturday Beats, he revealed that his first album was released about 24 years ago and only sold three copies. “Before I left Nigeria over 20 years ago, I released an album, ‘P’egan Re’. My expectation was so high because I wanted the world to hear my music. Sadly, I only sold three copies and that shook my faith. I believe in God and in what I do as a musician but that really got to me. I vowed that I would not release an album again and that I would stick to doing my life band gigs and giving the people what they want instead. “Over the years, whenever I travelled around the world, people kept asking if I would release an album. I kept telling them that I would release an album. Then one day, my wife told me that I should not be discouraged by my first outing. I decided to listen to her and I thank God that I did,” he said. The singer was quick to thank his wife for her support all through the years, while explaining that his success story would have been incomplete without her. “I am based in New York, US, but I come to Nigeria virtually every month to perform. I have a supportive wife and we have sacrificed so much to get to where we are today. The reason I can be travelling around the world is because I have a support system that works for me. I thank God for the wife he gave me,” he said. See more: http://gistmore.com/only-3-copies-of-my-first-album-were-sold-singer-alaba-ultimate

GistMore.com Ace actor and movie producer, Yomi Gold, received a lot of backlash from his fans recently after a rumour about him being divorced went viral. Despite the insults hurled on him, he initially refused to comment on the speculation. In a chat with Saturday Beats, he stressed that having rumours peddling about him is part of the price he has to pay for being in the limelight. “Of what good would it be to people if they can’t allow me to be the ‘driver’ of my own car (sic)? Why should they behave like they are perfect? Anything can happen. The society is quick to judge when they are not the one wearing the shoes. I decided not to talk about it because I own my life. The most important thing is for me is to be alive. If anything bad should happen, I would be on my own. I don’t owe anybody an explanation; I just want to live my life. As time goes on, people will see for themselves. “Leaving a marriage that is not working is more honourable than making a mess of it. If people know what really happened I don’t know what they would be saying. I don’t need it for publicity; I am a very shy person and a gentleman. I know I am a good man. I don’t think I need to go on social media to talk about anything,” he said. The actor, who recently celebrated his birthday, noted that he makes conscious efforts to always ignore negative comments about him on social media. “I am grateful for life and for everything I have accomplished. God has made me excel and succeed in whatever I do. I am very passionate about what I do; I am grateful to my loyal fans, they are always there for me. The most important thing about life is to keep going. I am conscious of protecting my name and having more friends than enemies. “As a public figure, stories about me will always be out there even though I try to keep some information about myself private. One of the prices to pay for being a public figure is that your stories will be out there even if you try to stop it. Somehow, some information about your personal life will still get out there. “When people talk about me online, one of the best things I do is not to react or ignite the fire; I move on. I am just like every other person; the only difference is that I am a celebrity and I don’t allow it to get to me. The most important thing is to be happy, if we deny ourselves of it, we have denied ourselves of our birthright,” he added. See more: http://gistmore.com/actor-yomi-gold-reacts-to-divorce-rumours

GistMore.com Nollywood actor, Ime Bishop Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, was recently criticised heavily for a video he posted about some policemen who allegedly raped some prostitutes in Abuja. In the video, he described what the policemen did as similar to stealing. This evidently did not go down well with a lot of social media users, who accused him of justifying rape. In an exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, the comic actor noted that he would never justify rape and stressed that the reason why he decided to comment on the issue was because he noticed that people were condemning the act of rape and ignoring the fact that prostitution was an immoral act. “I live my life in such a way that I live for the best and hope for the worst so things hardly shock me. I saw the backlash coming but I didn’t know it was going to get that sort of attention. I saw it coming; I knew I might be misunderstood depending on the level of comprehension of my audience. Humour waters down the sensitivity of some issues. Euphemism is saying something that is very harsh in a mild way. I didn’t justify rape in any way,” he said. He revealed that the grouse people had with him was largely because he likened rape to theft. “The issue people had with what I said was that I likened rape to theft and that I said prostitutes do not have dignity. My assertion was to clarify the fact that raping a prostitute is theft and they don’t have dignity. My assertion is metaphorical. If I wanted to use a simile, I would say rape is like theft. Rape is taking a woman’s dignity without her consent. I don’t regret saying that prostitutes do not have dignity; no one would be proud to introduce themselves as a commercial sex hawker. “I wanted to be fair in my analysis; I was trying to point out the fact that prostitution is a wrong act, so we shouldn’t be malicious by talking about only rape. Why are we canonising one criminal act and demonising the other? Both acts are morally wrong. I believe in humanism; as humans, we should observe the golden rule. I am not trying to say that I am a saint; in fact, I don’t want to be one so that there would be a difference between Jesus and me. It is unfortunate that some women were raped by policemen. “I am not saying it serves them right, but I am also concerned about the immoral act; prostitution. The level of moral decadence in the country is worrisome. I even saw some public figures with verified social media accounts supporting the idea that prostitution should be legalised; I don’t want to call names. I won’t make comments about something insensitive like that. Rape is bad, but prostitution should be addressed as an issue as well,” he told Saturday Beats. He further described his respect for women as inevitable, adding that he didn’t owe anyone an apology for his comments on prostitutes. “Everybody around me is a woman; I have a wife and two daughters; my respect for women is inevitable. I am not going to be shaken; a prostitute is not a dignified person. According to Lucky Dube; ‘the terrible thing about the truth is that, when you say it, you always stand alone.’ I am brave enough to say the truth and nothing will happen to me. I don’t owe anyone an apology,” he added. See more; http://gistmore.com/i-dont-regret-saying-prostitutes-have-no-dignity-okon-lagos
