The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested two fast-rising artistes, Afeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley) and Temidayo Omoniyi (aka Zlatan), on Friday, in connection with alleged cases of Internet fraud and money laundering.

The EFCC acting Head, Media and Publicity, Tony Orilade, in a statement, said intelligence report had also linked them to cybercrime offences.

Orilade added that the artistes were arrested along with three other suspects, Tiamiu Abdulrahman, Adewunmi Adeyanju and Musa Abubakar, following an early morning raid at 9, Gbangbola Street, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos.

“At the point of arrest, the Commission found and recovered a number of items, including laptops from the suspects. They have so far volunteered useful information about their involvement in the alleged criminal activities, even as investigations continue,” the statement said.

The EFCC last year launched Operation Cyber Storm which sought to curb the activities of Internet fraudsters.

Meanwhile, veteran rapper, Micheal Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, was recently engaged in a war of words with Naira Marley. The rift started after Ruggedman expressed his opinion on how he felt Naira Marley was misleading the public with his position on cybercrime.

Marley had earlier shared a video in which he stated that cybercrime wasn’t a sin. This video generated a lot of controversy on the Internet. Apart from Ruggedman, some celebrities have also expressed their displeasure with his opinion.

However, in an interview with Saturday Beats, the rap artiste said he had to express his opinion about Marley’s comments because it had rubbed off on other musicians in Nigeria. He added that he had his brand to protect and couldn’t watch someone else rub his name and brand in the mud.

“I gave my opinion about Naira Marley’s message on fraud because fraud is obviously a criminal act. It is outrageous for any young artiste to come out and publicly say it is not a crime. Aside from the fact that I am a veteran in the music industry,

I’m older than he is so I have to caution such remarks. If I don’t, it has the ability to ruin the whole community because after his comments, many people began to say that all musicians are into fraud.

“I cannot sit down and watch all the years of hard work I used to build my brand as Ruggedman go down the drain; it’s making everyone in the music industry look like a fraudster. That was why I spoke out,” he said.

Reacting to being called an ‘old book’ on the shelf in the Nigerian music industry, Ruggedman noted that there was nothing being said on social media that could move him emotionally.

“And about insulting me; it is a free world on social media; it is a different case if he can say it to my face. I am not a keyboard gangster; I do stuff in the real world. I only use social media to promote my music and people who are in need. If anyone has issues with me; if they are man enough to face me, then they should. What people say on social media doesn’t matter to me as long as it won’t tarnish my image. I want everyone to know that if Naira Marley is saying fraud is not a crime; he is on his own. No young artiste should try to justify or glorify crime,” he added.

Marley, while criticising Ruggedman, had further accused him of sleeping with a friend, 9ice’s wife. But reacting to the comments, Ruggedman said, “It is old ‘gist’, and it never happened; when people don’t have anything concrete to add to someone’s life after they’ve messed up, they just pick on anything they feel would hurt you. For somebody that doesn’t know anything about 9ice or me to come out and say anything is childish. I understand; I’m not about that.

“I have never met him before; if I see him, I probably would not know him. I don’t think we roll in the same circles. He doesn’t owe me anything, he owes the country; it has nothing to do with me. It doesn’t do anything to my image it’s his up-and-coming image that has issues now,” he said.

Married female teacher faces 90 years in prison after having sex with students in her car

A married female teacher identified as Kathryn Houghtaling, faces up to 90 years in prison after having sex with two students in her car while other students watched.

Kathryn Houghtaling who has been sacked and charged for allegedly sleeping with the boys – aged 16 and 17 – who attend Rochester High School in Michigan, had only been employed as a special education and science teacher at the school since August.

The 26-year-old married female teacher who faces 90 years in prison, had sex with one of the students in an apartment – while another was in a car as other pupils watched, according to Detroit News.

The incident reportedly occurred between November 1 and December 31 after school hours. It was learnt that a letter from the school sent to parents on Tuesday did not give exact details of the sordid allegations, however it informed them of alleged “inappropriate conduct of a Rochester High School teacher with students after hours”.

“The safety and welfare of our students and staff is always our primary concern,” Superintendent Robert Shaner said in a statement Thursday. “We are thankful for our partnership with the Rochester Police Department, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, and our security consultants who help us in our efforts to keep our children safe.

“Rochester Community Schools is committed to providing a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment for every student,” Shaner said. “District personnel are required to meet the highest standards of personal integrity, professionalism, and performance. Employees whose conduct or performance falls short of expectations will be subject to disciplinary action, or in this case, termination.”

The suspect who has been charged with six counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, faces up to 15 years in prison per charge if convicted – each of which she denies. She has been detained on a $200,000 cash bond.

Since the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R Kelly hit the airwaves, it has become a instant hit drawing different reactions from people of all walks of life. The documentary is about singer R Kelly and his sexual abuse of underaged girls. Many of the girls and their guardians have come out to speak up on the abuse suffered in the hands of the singer.

Below are a few of the women featured in the documentary Surviving R Kelly.

1. Lizette Martinez (41 yr old)

She and the singer met when she was a high school senior in 1995. At that time R Kelly was 28 while she was 17. They immediately started a ‘relationship’ aftter meeting at a mall. Lizette fell for him because she thought he was interested in helping with her career just as he helped the late Aaliyah who was 15 at the time. The relationship however turned abusive as she got hit by the singer for something as little as looking his male friends in the eye. She also contracted an STD from him and suffered a miscarriage at 19.

2. Asante McGee (40 yr old)

A one-night stand for Asante quickly turned into a nightmare after she met him in 2013. She however did not expect the shocking abuse and violence that followed. Three years later she managed to scape from his mansion where she lived with his ‘rules’ and outrageous sexual demands. Since escaping, Asante has tried to help some parents get in touch with their daughters, despite the singer preventing them from maintaining contact with their family and loved ones.

3. Lisa Van Allen (38 yr old)

She also suffered physical abuse from the singer whom she met at 17 and was coerced into having a party with a girl who was 14. His response when she challenged him for liking underage girls: “If you love someone, you don’t try to change them”. She was one of those who testified against him in his publicised child pornography case.

4. Andrea Drea Kelly (44 yr old)

They met back in 1994 when she was 19 and was one of his dancers. She got married to him three years later. The singer’s reading problems amd the way he managed his team was what drew her to him. She however suffered emotional, sexual and physical in their marriage and had to seek his permission to do basic things, including eating and using the toilet.

5. Sparkle (43 yr old)

The girl in the video of the 2008 child pornography case against R Kelly is Sparkle’s niece, who Buzzfeed reported still lives with him. She introduced the 14-year-old to the singer hoping that he would mentor and build her career. He however took advantage of her and reportedly made her perform sexual acts on him and other women. Buzzfeed also reports that she is still living with him 11 years after the case.

6. Jerhonda Pace (25 yr old)

Jerhonda first met him during the 2008 infamous child pornography case. She was barely 15 on their first encounter. At 16, he invited her to a party instructing her to tell the guests that she was 19. He ensured she dressed in schoolgirl outfits and was also required to perform sexual acts on other people while he video taped it. A more dangerous side was when he allegedly slapped and choked her until she passed out. His dehumanising acts made her to leave him and she claimed to have signed a settement deal for $1.5 million dollars when her parents pressed charges. He has not fully paid the amount.

7. Mitchell Kramer (48 yr old)

Her daughter, Dominique met R. Kelly in 2009 at age 18. She lived/worked for him for 9 years. Their relationship started out professionally when she worked as his assistant, but progressed to romantic. He made her cut ties with her family. When Michelle suspectsd something fishy when her daughter called her to tell her she was going off her phone line. At first she though she was just acting growno Dminique stopped showing up for holidays and eventually stopped calling home. Michelle worked with other parents whose daughters were still living with him in 2017 and finally rescued her daughter.

8. Kutty Jones (42 yr old)

Kitti believes her story was dismissed by people because she was 33 at the time she met him in 2011. Working as an OAP in Chicago, listeners harassed her over his sex tapes which caused her distress. He began abusing her when she tried to address the sex tapes. She also spoke about a young woman she met whom he claimed to have trained like ‘his dog’ for 10 years
