A South African opposition party, Democratic Alliance has said it would sue the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Prophet T. B. Joshua, over the deaths of some of its nationals at the church building collapse in Ikotun, Lagos State. The party’s parliamentarian, Stevens Mokgalapa, who made this known on Monday said the party intends to write to the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, urging her to assist South African victims of the SCOAN building collapse and their families to sue the prophet, Punch reports. Speaking shortly after some survivors of the misfortune comprising two orphaned children arrived in Pretoria, Mokgalapa, expressed optimism that the church may be criminally liable. He called on the South African Minister in Charge of Pretoria, Jeff Radebe, for an investigation by the Nigerian government. Responding, Radebe, who placed the total death toll from the building collapse on 115, said 80 South Africans were among. Nkoana-Mashabane, however, stated that the party believes that many lives could have been saved if rescue work had begun immediately after the building collapsed on September 12. “The Democratic Alliance is quite saddened and concerned about the reports of alleged negligence from the church in Nigeria just after the collapse of the building there. We also want to get the full disclosure of the assistance of the South African Government and the cooperation of the Nigerian governmentin as far as the tragedy is concerned,” Nkoana-Mashabane said. Radebe also reiterated that it was imperative for Nigerian government to quickly conclude its investigation the building collapse, which he alleges has opened up a diplomatic crack between the two African countries. Also, South African President Jacob Zuma had last week reacted to the tragedy that befell his countrymen at the SCOAN building collapse. Meanwhile, the clergyman who is yet to respond to bribery claims by a journalist, on September 22, 2014, issued another condolence message to families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate collapse of a guest house belonging to the Synagogue Church of all Nations(SCOAN) http://newswrita.com/south-african-party-democratic-alliance-to-sue-t-b-joshua/

Nobody expected such a news story this week, but it seems that Facebook will no longer be a free service. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced at a press conference in Menlo Park, California that the company is unable to keep up with the costs of Facebook and a monthly fee for users is inevitable. Zuckerberg has explained that Facebook is growing with hundreds and thousands of members signing up each day and the advertisement system Facebook currently uses is not enough to cover all the costs the social media giant needs to keep the site running. He also said that if Facebook continues to remain a free service, there is the possibility of it having to shut down because of the lack of funding. “After thinking long and hard about this decision, at the end of the day, we were forced to add this monthly fee. If we don’t do something about our rising costs now, Facebook could cease to exist in the near future.” – said Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook currently has about 1.317 billion users and if just %75 of those users start paying the $2.99 monthly fee, the yearly profit would be about $3 billion. Astounding. Reportedly, Paul Horner, Facebook spokesperson, said that there could be a way to waive the monthly fee for users who don’t have the money to pay. He said that even though Facebook would begin implementing the new user fee starting November 1st, they don’t want to lose their members just because they can’t afford to pay the monthly subscription fee. He said that users should update their status with the following statement: I AM POOR FACEBOOK PLEASE WAIVE MY MONTHLY FEE with the #FacebookMonthlyFee hashtag included. What do you think? Is Facebook looking to get a little more money out of its users? Are you going to ask them to waive your monthly fee or do you think Facebook is worth paying for? http://idreamzmedia.com/facebook-to-begin-charging-users-2-99mo-starting-november-1st/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed |
Oba of Lagos, His Royal Highness Rilwan Akiolu, has opened up on the role he played in the alleged bribery of some Yoruba monarchs by late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, to frustrate the struggle against the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election believed to have been won by late business mogul, Chief MKO Abiola. The monarch, who was the Lagos State Police Commissioner at the time, said that with the exception of one or two traditional rulers, other prominent Yoruba Obas collected bribe from the Abacha administration, declaring that he personally shared the money to the monarchs. The monarch said the traditional rulers collected the bribe from Abacha to assist the late Head of State to remain in office following the relentless protests that trailed his coming to power. He hinted that he has the names of the monarchs and the role they played, especially the Yoruba traditional rulers and vowed to expose them after the 2015 general elections. Oba Akiolu stated this on Sunday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State during the visit of the Emir of Kano and former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Muhammed Sanusi II to the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona at his palace. He was part of Emir Sanusi’s entourage to Ijebu-Ode after the latter had visited him at his Iga Idunganran Palace in Lagos on Saturday. Delivering his speech at the palace, Oba Akiolu disclosed that he had spoken with President Goodluck Jonathan to forgive and forget the errors that Mallam Sanusi might have committed as CBN governor, adding that all humans are prone to errors. He said: “The Awujale is not part of them (corrupt monarchs), when the time comes, I am going to expose those monarchs who were given bribes in order to aid the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha to remain in power. “I was a Commissioner of Police then in Lagos; I was at the meeting where money was being shared to the monarchs; I know those that collected money. I was given the share of Awujale to send it across to him, but I told them, right there that he will never collect the money and truly, when he was approached, he rejected it. “There are some monarchs that I personally gave their own share and they collected it from me. I have their names and when the time comes, I will expose them. I am not afraid of anybody, they are corrupt and those are some of the bad eggs in the traditional institution. These are the people, you (Emir of Kano) should be very careful of associating with”, Oba Akiolu stated. He advised the Emir not to look down on his subjects, as they were the main source of his traditional power. It will be recalled that former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Bola Tinubu had during the 80th birthday of the Awujale last May took a swipe at Yoruba Obas saying that most of them soiled their hands during Abacha’s regime. Earlier in his welcome address, Oba Adetona applauded the contributions of the Emir to the economy of this country when he was the governor at the apex bank. Among dignitaries at the palace to join the monarch to receive his guests were the former governor of the state, who is also the Aremo of Ijebuland, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Senator Adegbenga Kaka, the three state commissioners from Ijebu Ode: Otunba Bimbo Ashiru (Commerce and Industry), Adebayo Fari (Forestry) and Olugbenga Otenuga (Physical and Urban Planning). Also present were members of the state Council of Obas and Ijebu chiefs, religious leaders, the Hausa community in Ijebuland. Speaking on behalf of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Bimbo Ashiru congratulated the two distinguished Nigerians, who, he described as shinning lights in the traditional institution in the country. Amosun charged the monarchs to continue to support the government in their various domains, adding that, being the custodians of both the traditional and culture of the people, the onus lies on them to play very good advisory roles to all tiers government. Mallam Sanusi explained that he decided to visit the two Obas in the South West because they were the only ones who identified with him during his coronation as the new Emir of Kano, adding that they were his adopted fathers http://idreamzmedia.com/oba-of-lagos-bombshell-i-shared-abachas-bribe-to-yoruba-monarchs/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

Senate President David Mark is expected to lead a three-man delegation of the Peoples Democratic Party to Ogun State on Thursday to cement the working agreement between the state PDP and the Labour Party for the 2015 general elections. Daniel had earlier this year defected from the PDP to the LP in controversial circumstances after which the national leadership of the LP handed over the leadership of the party to the former governor. Investigation revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan, who already had a strong assurance that the LP would support him in his bid to retain his seat in 2015, also believed that the PDP should win the state governorship election. A competent source in the camp of the former governor told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Tuesday that the Presidency had asked Daniel to “collapse his structure” in the LP into the PDP in order to unseat the incumbent Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, in the 2015 election. “The Labour Party has already endorsed the candidacy of President Jonathan in 2015 but the President felt his fortune would be brighter if the state also falls into the hands of the PDP in the governorship election,” said the lawmaker, who had defected from the All Progressives Congress to the LP. “He (Jonathan) believes the APC would win the next elections in the state if the PDP goes into the 2015 elections in its present state.” The source, who craved anonymity, explained that Daniel’s meeting with the LP faithful at his Asoludero Court residence in Sagamu on Sunday, was to finalise their planned defection to the PDP on the prompting of Jonathan. He was said to have enjoyed the backing of the party supporters to “collapse” the LP structure in the state into the PDP. The source said the Presidency considered the report of independent assessors, who had come up with a verdict that the PDP as presently constituted, would not be able to defeat Amosun in 2015. “It was then decided that if the party (PDP) could work on Daniel to bring his LP supporters to the PDP, it will be easy to unseat the APC and Amosun,” he said. Daniel was however said to be demanding some elective seats at the state and national levels before moving his “structure” to the PDP, where he would have to work with his once close friend, who later became his arch enemy, Buruji Kashamu. “The former governor wants one senate seat, five seats in the House of Representatives and 14 House of Assembly slots. These demands may however be cut down. These are the calculations that Mark and others will resolve when they come on Thursday,” the source said. He disclosed that the PDP in the state was concluding plans to field a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, for the state governorship election. He explained that the impending return of Daniel to the PDP might not change the plan as Bankole’s candidature would be “by affirmation.” The source said, “There wouldn’t be any need for primaries for the governorship since the ‘parties’ would have known what belong to them. The governorship seat will be by affirmation.” Daniel, however, said he was still consulting concerning his reported plan to defect to the PDP. He said as a “credible and trustworthy leader”, he had been given the mandate by the leaders in the Labour Party to consult widely with other political parties before taking the final decision on where to pitch his structure’s tent. In a statement on Tuesday, the media aide to the ex-governor, Mr. Ayo Giwa, said Daniel had been empowered to consult with various political parties and thereafter decide on the way to go. The Publicity Secretary of the LP, Ogun State, Mr. Deji Kalejaiye, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Tuesday, also said Daniel was still consulting with other political parties on what he called the Amosun Must Go project http://www.punchng.com/news/pdp-plots-amosuns-defeat-seals-deal-with-daniel/

Any patriot will be left wit no other choice but to protest d despicable efforts of d PDP to use their majority to cover up a potential crime. Without a doubt dis can't be d intentions of d framers of our constitution & it is reprehensible & an abuse of majority power.the so-called protest should have taken place before d voice vote. The APC members shouldn't have participated in the voice vote in d first place. They should have staged a walk-out before d vote was conducted. This is the same mistake some governors made during the NGF election, when they were trying to walk out after they participated in d voting and lost to Amaechi. U can't participate in an election and walk out because the result does not favor u. APC should grow up and be more responsible. |
chrisbaba1: its called a protest. Standing up for the truth. The issue on hand is a big deal, its funny you are reasoning this way, if we are going to grow as a nation we must learn to challenge evil regardless of who is involved, cut the bloody sentiments mahn.there is nothing like protest afternoon an election. There was a voice vote on the floor of the house which the APC members participated in and the result of which could have gone either way, but unfortunately it went against APC. What is the essence of participating in voting when u already know that u would not accept the outcome? The other day APC national chairman said that they would form a parallel government in 2015 irrespective of the election results. That is sheer irresponsibility. APC should learn how to accept defeat so that Nigerians can take them serious. |
Efforts by the Nigerian military to procure US-made Chinook helicopters from Israel, to facilitate the movement of troops and the injured, have been blocked by the United States Government, THISDAY has learnt. This, among other issues, including the US’ refusal to provide Nigeria’s security agencies with timely intelligence needed to defeat Boko Haram insurgents who have been riding rough shod in the North-east, would form part of the discussions when President Goodluck Jonathan meets with US President Barack Obama in New York this week. The Chinook is a versatile and reliable American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter produced by Boeing. Its primary roles are troops movement, artillery placement and battlefield resupply. In a war where Boko Haram insurgents move in convoys through arid towns and villages, the helicopters are required to checkmate them, reinforce troops and supplies and recover dead and wounded soldiers. Although it has a number of variants and is used primarily for the transportation of troops, supplies and search and rescue operations, limited weaponry can be mounted on its door and window for the purpose of enemy attacks. However, according to defence and intelligence sources, attempts to buy the helicopters and other munitions from, first the US and other Western European countries, have proved to be an impossible task, thus compelling the military to resort to Israel and several retired members of the Israeli defense forces. Opening up on the challenges the Nigerian military has faced dealing with the procurement of arms for the war effort in the North-east, a knowledgeable official, who did not want to be named as he was not authorised to speak with the press, said: “The US government has frustrated Nigeria all the way in our war against terrorism despite its public statements in support of Nigeria, as it fights the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-east… They want us to fight Boko Haram with our arms tied to our backs. “They have refused to sell us arms and equipment and even our recent attempt to buy Chinook helicopters, which are manufactured in the US, from the Israelis was blocked, based on unfounded allegations of human rights violations by our troops. This is after the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Natanyahu had initially approved the purchase. “But because they were supplied by the Americans, the Israelis required a ‘No Objection’ letter from Washington which was refused. “We had even tried to procure arms from Russia but this was stalled because of the Ukrainian crisis, thus compelling us to turn to other nations like Israel. But even this has been frustrated by the US,” he said. He said it was not just in the area of arms procurement that US has been most unhelpful, adding that contrary to its public stance that it was assisting in the rescue operations of the abducted Chibok secondary school girls it has done nothing significant to help Nigeria in this regard. Other intelligence sources also cited the fact that the US has refused to share intelligence with Nigerian security forces in a timely manner. They said: “When we complained they started sharing some intelligence, but days after the fact when such intelligence is of little value. “They have blocked us from procuring the helicopters and would not provide us with intelligence despite the fact that they have several drones and sophisticated aircraft overflying the North-east of Nigeria from bases in Niger and Chad where the Boko Haram fighters and movements are clearly in their sights. “This belies their stance they want to help us to defeat the terrorists and help to rescue the Chibok girls.” Indeed, a security analyst who spoke to THISDAY on the issue said the US’ role smacks of double standards and questioned its intent over the Boko Haram insurgency. He warned that ignoring the threat of Boko Haram could be a strategy that could come to haunt the US in the future. He also wondered why the same US would refuse to assist Nigeria based on unsubstantiated claims of human rights violations, which the military has repeatedly denied and insisted are carried out by Boko Haram insurgents wearing Nigerian military uniforms, yet the same US turns a blind eye to the same human rights violations committed by countries like Israel. “Look at what happened in the recent war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza strip. Israel repeatedly bombed school compounds and UN buildings and in the process killed scores of women and children. “Even the UN cried out against the targeting of its facilities by Israeli forces, yet the US did nothing and will continue to supply arms and ammunition to Israel to defend itself against Palestinians and other hostile neighbours in the Middle East,” the security analyst said. Two questions to the White House and the US National Security Adviser’s office which were unanswered as at press time are: The Nigerian military, through its agents, tried to buy Chinook helicopters for the prosecution of the war against terrorism, from Israel. But this was blocked by the U.S. National Security Council and the White House. If so, why was the procurement blocked?; and the decision to block the procurement of the helicopters may have stemmed from U.S.’ concerns over human rights abuses by Nigerian troops who have been fighting the insurgents in the North-eastern part of the country. Does this not appear contradictory given the fact that the U.S. continues to supply equipment and ammunition to Israel, which is also accused of human rights violations in Palestinian territories? http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/us-blocks-nigeria-s-purchase-of-chinook-helicopters-from-israel/189710/

CONDOLENCE SPEECH – T.B. JOSHUA “Church and viewers from all over the world, join me in observing one minute silence in memory of martyrs of faith. Bless their souls. Those who are affected in one way or the other and those who passed on to glory, their greatest desire is to see that the work of salvation they died and suffered for continues and to reach unreachable places. For that, what they are coming here for should be taken to meet them in their country. Once in a month, I will be traveling to South Africa to meet people from South Africa and other nations who find South Africa easier to visit, in memory of martyrs of faith. South Africa, I mean, Southern Africa, I love you with the love of God. “My ministrations in South Africa will not be on Sundays so that people would have the opportunity to attend their respective churches. This kind of faith expressed by South Africans deserves this kind of blessing from God – satan is a liar have been your pastor, preaching to you. Now, it is your turn that you are preaching to me. Thank you for preaching to me. I received a lot of emails and text messages full of preaching, teaching, counseling from you. “It is your turn that you are giving back what you have received in terms of preaching, teaching and counseling. The Nigerian military may have recorded a major victory in the war against Boko Haram as the man suspected to be mimicking late Abubakar Shekau in recent videos from the sect, may have been killed during the September 17th battle in Konduga, Borno state. A senior military source said “it is getting more certain that the terrorists’ commander who has been mimicking Shekau in those videos is the one killed in Konduga on September 17.” Sources at the image making company of the Nigerian government, PRNigeria, say the death of the man believed to be the leader of the group is responsible for the scattering of the sect members in different independent locations in neighboring countries. Security sources did not deny the suspicion but cautioned that “the process of confirming that the dead body we have is the same as that character who has been posing as Shekau is ongoing. He is definitely a prominent terrorist commander. I don’t want to say aBoko Haram: Shekau impersonator killed by Nigerian troops? Another high ranking military source said that the resemblance between the man killed and the one seen in recent videos posted by the sect group is quite striking, citing his facial marks, beards and teeth as some of the striking resemblance features. Military officers say the Defence Headquarters will address the nation after a full investigation of their latest discovery has been done. Meanwhile the Defense headquarters say five members of the sect group surrendered their arms to the Nigerian troops yesterday, pleading for mercy. They said some captured members of the sect group are helping with useful information regarding future planned attacks by the sect. http://gistreel.com/2014/09/22/boko-haram-shekau-impersonator-killed-by-nigerian-troops/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

Embattled Nigerian ‘Prophet’ T.B. Joshua declared in his church service today that he will be visiting South Africa once in a month ‘in memory of the martyrs of faith’. Joshua relayed the message in his church service on Sunday 21st August 2014 following the tragic building collapse at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) that left 84 South Africans dead and hundreds more injured. “Those who are affected in one way or another and those who passed onto glory, their greatest desire is to see that the work of salvation they died and suffered for continues and reaches unreachable places,” Joshua declared, a message subsequently relayed via his official social media portals on Facebook and Twitter. “For that, what they are coming here for should be taken to meet them in their country,” he stated to applause from foreigners but a muted response from Nigerian congregants. “Once in a month, I will be travelling to South Africa to meet people from South Africa and other nations who find South Africa easier to visit, in memory of martyrs of faith,” the controversial cleric stated in a broadcast transmitted live on Emmanuel TV, one of Africa’s most popular television stations. Joshua quickly countered any insinuation that his visitations will be to challenge other South African churches. “My ministration in South Africa will not be on Sunday so that people will have the opportunity to attend their respective churches,” he explained. “This kind of faith expressed by South Africans deserves this kind of blessing from God,” he added. Joshua thanked people for the messages of condolence and encouragement The SCOAN had received from supporters around the world. “I have been your pastor, preaching to you. Now, it is your turn that you are preaching to me. It is your turn that you are giving back what you have received in terms of preaching, teaching and counselling,” he said. Referring to the biblical principle in Ecclesiastes 3, Joshua continued, “There is a time to give and a time to receive. There is a time to laugh and a time to cry. There is a time to be born and a time to die. Thank you for understanding the time that I am in.” The cleric acknowledged that the decision would have some adverse effects on Nigeria but insisted it was a ‘revelation from God’ that he must obey. He further called on the South African government to be involved in organising the monthly meetings, knowing that ‘mammoth crowds’ would attend. Taking a trip down memory lane, the embattled pastor played a clip of a man he claimed was the first South African to visit The SCOAN 15 years ago. The Emmanuel TV archive clip showed a pastor named Francois Van Zyl telling the congregation that ‘persecution’ would soon cause T.B. Joshua to travel worldwide. Strangely, the broadcast on Emmanuel TV was intermittently disrupted due to technical problems before Joshua arrived to deliver the message. http://newswrita.com/i-am-coming-to-south-africa-t-b-joshua/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa has said that for the 2015 general elections to be fair, free and credible, the masses should be ready to embark on what he described as peaceful revolution that could usher in leaders the people deserved. Musa who is the National Chairman of deregistered Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) added that since the country’s political system had been hijacked by money bags, the hope of the people getting credible leaders through their voting power would not be feasible. The PRP leader listed moral, social, coup plotting, and constitutional types of revolutions Nigerians should choose from to ensure an enthronement of credible leadership in the country come 2015. Fielding questions from newsmen at the weekend shortly after meeting with members of the National Executive Committee of the party to find alternative political strategies for the party following its deregistration by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the former Governor said PRP would continue to fight for the cause of the downtrodden. He also lamented the state of insecurity in the country, stressing that nobody in the country, including President Goodluck Jonathan is safe in this circumstance. Balarabe Musa said, “I know Nigeria’s situation, it is impossible to have free, fair, credible and transparent election leading to democratic mandate. We need a revolution, we need peaceful democratic revolution or otherwise to bring about the condition that will bring about free, fair, credible and transparent election that will lead to legitimate leadership. Let us be objective; elections today are decided by three factors; first, money power, second, incumbency, and now we are facing the third one, balance of terror, that was how elections were decided in Ekiti and Osun States. The ruling party, PDP can do and undo with the peoples votes. So revolution is the answer whether peaceful or otherwise. “There are three types of revolution, I can tell you. First, there is moral revolution, where Nigerians decide to have free, fair and transparent election and protect their votes. But is it possible in Nigeria? can you use moral persuasion to change things in Nigeria? The second one is constitutional, let the National Assembly enact laws that can lead to this. But can the National Assembly do it? The third possibility is a plotting of a coup, we don’t want it as a people, but is it impossible? The fourth one is the real one which is social revolution. People in Nigeria should stand to protect their rights in a revolution. It had happened in other countries, and Nigeria is not unique. What is unique in Nigeria that we will say what happened in other countries cannot happen here. We made that stupid position in 1966, where nobody thought of a coup, everybody said, no, coup was not possible in Nigeria. But coup came in 1966, what did we do? Now people are saying that because of the money power of these political parties, we cannot have free and fair elections. We say no, people can change their positions. “State of the nation is all about negativity. However, one thing that is important today is that we still have one Nigeria despite negative things happening to it and the citizens. Many things are wrong in our political system, and it is not possible to change the government even in a free and fair election because of money bags who use whatever they can to be declared winners in the elections. “In elections like the National Assembly, Governorship and even the Presidency, the elections are decided by money bags, and also incumbency factors prevail in these elections. The role of money bags, for instance, will force Local government chairmen to do anything to retain powers. “Besides the state of the nation, insecurity in the country is so much that anything can happen to anybody even the President himself is not safe, after four months nobody, even the government can tell us the true position of the abducted Chibok girls “Whether PRP is deregistered or not, it remains a movement, whether we can contest election or not, PRP remains a movement. We want to change Nigeria for the better, whether we are political party or not. So those who don’t want to see PRP exist are wasting their times. “In the first place, INEC has no power to ban any party. We are exercising our fundamental human rights as Nigerians. Do you expect me as Balarabe to call a meeting of PDP or APC; I can only call a meeting of like-minds, whether under PRP or as assembly of Nigerians of like-minds. “Do you know that Fresh Democratic Party (FDP) went to the Federal High Court over its deregistration and the court declared the deregistration null and void as well as unconstitutional.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=82752

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso’s presidential bid has received a boost as North-West All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Vanguard endorsed him to run. Speaking with Daily Sun shortly after a consultation team on Governor Kwankwaso’s presidential bid visited Zamfara State, a member of the youth vanguard, Alhaji Kabiru Oro-oro, said the governor deserved to run in 2015. According to Oro-Oro, Kwankwaso had all it took to be the country’s president. Earlier, the leader of Kwankwaso’s presidential bid 2015, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, who is also the Commissioner for Environment in Kano State said, they were in the state to consult with stakeholders on Kwankwaso’s intension. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=81969 |

Sheriff, who arrived in the country on Sunday and left Abuja for Maiduguri on Monday, could not but shed tears when he saw the crowd that came to welcome him. Alhaji Goni Rawa, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), told the Nigerian Tribune that “Sheriff is the father of Borno politics, whether anyone likes it or not,” adding, “we have come to welcome our son, a leader of Borno politics. THE Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has declared that it was wrong for anyone to claim that the Boko Haram insurgents currently wagging war against Nigeria are from the Northern Region of the country. NEF said it has done a lot to woo the Federal Government to overcome insurgency in the country, saying the government lacks the will power to act. According to the forum, the Northerners were victims of insurgency being perpetrated against them, saying that as it was today, the original Jama’atul Ahlu Sunnah Li-Dawati Wal-Jihad, also known as Boko Haram, had been hijacked by the political class and they were the ones annexing the territory of Nigeria. Addressing journalists in Bauchi State shortly after the forum’s strategic committee’s meeting, a member of the committee, Barrister Solomon Dalung, noted that though there was a conception of an Islamic orientation by those who initially formed the Boko Haram group, what was being witnessed now was far from the agenda of the group. He stated that any attempt to link Northerners to insurgency was a deliberate move to blackmail the people of the North, submitting that the Federal Government lacked the will to put an end to insurgency in the country. “The insurgents are not from Northern Nigeria. Northern Nigerians are victims of a conspiracy. Those who bombed Nigeria on the 1st of October, 2012 are not Northerners. The man who masterminded the bombing of five churches in Kaduna has a name John Odey. John Odey is not a Northerner. “The three gentlemen who coordinated the bombing of Nyanya are not Northerners. The 400 people arrested in Maiduguri fighting are from the South-South. I disagree with anybody trying to insinuate that the insurgents are mostly from the North. “Yes, there was a conception for an Islamic orientation spearheaded by Yusuf Muhammed but as it is today, all those who started Jama’atul Ahlu Sunnah Li-Dawati Wal-Jihad had been hijacked by the political class and they are the ones that are now annexing the territories of Nigeria,” Dalung said. He added that, “If this is not corrected, then answer this question I asked: Those who bombed on Independence Day, are they Northerners? The three gentlemen who left the house of General Ihejirika as alleged by Davis to bomb Nyanya are not Northerners. John Odey who masterminded the bombing of five churches in Kaduna is not a Northerner. “It is just a deliberate attempt to blackmail the people of the North. They started something which today is not what they are preaching. If not, then the Federal Government should have been able to overcome this thing.” http://tribune.com.ng/news/news-headlines/item/16002-boko-haram-insurgents-not-northerners-nef |
