asamaigho:since when has police headquarters turned to INEC headquarters? |
It is well |
bakila:this is a legal issue, my opinion and your opinion are immaterial. It is the court's opinion that matters here. |
As far as the presidency is concerned, Tambuwal is no longer a member of the house of representatives. According to them, Tambuwal has voluntarily resigned his membership of the house of representatives by the reason of switching party. That is the position of the presidency, and whether the position of the presidency is right or wrong only time will tell. The president was supposed to meet with the leadership of both chambers of the national assembly yestarday but he only invited Senator David Mark and Hon Emeka Ihedioha for the meeting. Why did he invite Ihedioha when Tambuwal was in the country? Your guess is as good as mine. Do not be surprised if u hear that security men prevent Tambuwal frm entering the national assembly tomorrow because according to the presidency he is no longer a member of the house. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/jonathan-meets-mark-ihedioha/194415/ |

OrlandoOwoh:the president did not direct the IGP to curtail the vigilante groups. It is a lie from the propagandists. What happened is that the IGP directed all the commissioners of police in Nigeria to properly screen the different vigilante groups in their respective states (not only in the northeast). I think it is necessary so dat criminals will nt hijack these groups to perpetrate evil, given the security situations in d country. |
Op watch your back!! The IGP gave an order that all vigilante groups across the nation be screened and you came here to mislead people that Jonathan gave an order that vigilante groups in the northeast be screened. What do u benefit from lies? I will advise you to desist from this because whatever you are currently being paid to spread falsehood would not be enough to save u by the time the rod of anger of God finally strikes you. |
jmaine:u don't have to go to the extent of insulting. I regret quoting u because I never knew u are one of teenagers that have taken over nairaland lately. I quoted you because I thought u were an adult that I could interact with but I was wrong. For your information that article above was from Rotimi Fashakin trying to distance Buhari from the controversial statement. But Rotimi was never Buhari's spokesman and so he did not speak for Buhari. Note that there is a difference between Buhari's spokesman and CPC's spokesman. He only spoke as a Buhari's supporter but he did not speak for Buhari. Please show us where Buhari distanced himself from the publication. Buhari has granted many interviews and he has issued many statements by himself, show us where he denied it. |
jmaine:please show us where Buhari distanced himself from it. |
size38:" we in Rivers state". This is an aberration of the highest order. Whenever u are commenting on a public forum like this, be careful with your choice of words. By saying "we in Rivers state" u are giving an impression that you are speaking for the entire people of Rivers state but in reality you are speaking for only yourself. So, please kindly change the "we" to "I". |
egift:those guys were elected on the platform of ACN and not APC, and ACN is no longer in existence. Please take note. |

U are trying to derail a popular thread but unfortunately you are doing it in a childish way. |
This is a good news. But I hope those promises will be kept. |
So what is the breaking news here? It is a pity that our dear nairaland has turned to a big joke. |

the hope of a former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, to return to office suffered a setback as a Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday dismissed a suit seeking his reinstatement. Justice Okon Abang who struck out the suit numbered FHC/L/CS/1180/14 for want of merit also awarded a cost of N70,000 against the applicant. A Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, had on August 8, 2014, filed the suit. Following the adoption of the report of a seven-man investigation panel, which indicted Nyako of 16 counts of gross misconduct, the ex-governor was dismissed on July 15, 2014 as the governor of Adamawa State by the state’s House of Assembly. But the lawyer, who said he filed the suit in the interest of the public, had asked the court to declare as “unlawful, unconstitutional, illegal, null and void” the impeachment proceedings and the eventual removal of Nyako. Giving judgement in the suit on Friday, Justice Abang held that the lawyer lacked the locus standi to institute the action, adding that the suit did not qualify as public interest suit. Stating that only Nyako had the right to challenge his own impeachment, the judge described Ogungbeje as a meddlesome interloper. He said the applicant should have allowed Nyako to carry his own cross, rather than be crying more than the bereaved. Abang observed that the operative word in the preamble to the Fundamental Human Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules was “may” and not “shall” which implies that not all human rights enforcement cases could not be dismissed for lack of locus standi. “My Lords, it is my considered reasoning that this suit is not a public interest litigation as alleged by the applicant. It is not an action instituted in the interest of the public. “It is Nyako that will benefit from any favourable judgment, and not the public, and so this matter does not rank among public interest litigation. “The applicant cannot cry more than the bereaved and he has no justifiable reason to file this suit because as at the time he filed it, it was not established before this court that Nyako was in detention or incapacitated. “The applicant can also not depose to an affidavit in support of this application on behalf of Nyako who is alive. The facts deposed to by the applicant amount to documentary hearsay,” the judge held. Justice Abang went on to discountenance the service of the applicant’s processes on the respondents through the Adamawa State Government liaison office in Lagos on August 15, 2014, adding that the recipient was unknown. http://www.punchng.com/news/court-dismisses-suit-seeking-to-reinstate-nyako/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |

The national leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) on celebrating insurgency, terrorism and fanning the embers of chaos rather than finding ways of assisting the federal government to fight it. The national leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as unguarded and unwarranted castigation of the federal government over efforts at dealing with insurgency in the country. In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the LP National Secretary, Olukayode Ajulo, accused the APC of what it described as unguarded and unwarranted castigation of the federal government over efforts at dealing with insurgency in the country. "The APC campaigns, rather than being issue-based, are characterised by name-calling, factless fault-finding and dirty diatribes devoid of plans for Nigerians." Ajulo, a constitutional lawyer who is also the Chairman of Egalitarian Mission for Africa, said going by the statement signed by (APC) National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Sunday, the party has finally revealed its evil intention against Nigeria. "The APC has inter alia said: "the Jonathan administration got swindled by an impostor in a ceasefire deal. President Jonathan owes Nigerians an explanation on what has now turned out to be an unprecedented global faux pas. Engaging in cheap damage control by insisting on the genuineness of the deal." "These unguarded talks and schoolboy lampoon show how myopic and selfish a party that claimed to be progressive is in issues of national security that hold dire consequences for the entire citizenry," he said. According to Ajulo, LP believes that while vibrant opposition was necessary for democracy to flourish, the nation's unity and peace must not be sacrificed on the alter of do-or-die politics. "Apparently the APC is not set out to win the 2015 general election as it lacks the vision, capacity and strategy to do so. Rather, their mission is to make the country ungovernable going by the utterances credited to one of its major presidential contenders. "It is instructive that the same bellicose posture and politically infantile proclamations presaged the violence that visited the outcome of the presidential polls in 2011. And what is more, certain parts of the country have remained virtually ungovernable since then! "Nigerians are not unaware of the antecedents of the APC major contenders. The nation will not be hoodwinked with factless rhetorics aimed at obfuscating the truth and refocusing attention from the personalities the party intends to present for the presidential polls." According to the statement, "Pursuit of studies in terrorism and insurgency is not the hallmark of a political party aspiring to position of authority and power in a diverse society like Nigeria. Strategies that unite the people across classes, ethnic groups and religions should be held more paramount by any political party worth its calling." It advised the APC to refrain from further inciting Nigerians and pay due attention to the much more palpable issue of their fast dwindling followership. http://www.dailytimes.com.ng/article/stop-fanning-embers-chaos-labour-party-warns-apc?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+com%2FKCRj+%28NEWS%21NEWS%21%21NEWS%21%21%21%29 |

FRESH controversy has hit the additional 30,000 polling units created by the Professor Attahiru Jega-led Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with allegation that it was created to rig the 2015 presidential election. Indications emerged that the new units could be used to perpetrate electoral fraud in the 2015 elections. According to information pieced together by Sunday Tribune, the contentious new polling units could have been deliberately structured to rig the presidential election in favour of a particular political party and, indeed, in favour of the North. According to those in the know, the new voting pattern, which Jega was spearheading with computerised permanent voter cards which though would not allow rigging to be perpetrated by politicians, had been concluded for the initial 120,000 polling units before the creation of the new 30,000 units. “The old 120,000 polling units have been successfully computerised and since voters will use their computerised voter cards, card readers have been configured to sort out the voter cards and at the particular units where the voters registered. “Such voter cards could not be used anywhere, because the card readers will reject them at the unit other than where such a card has been issued,” explained the source. But Jega’s 30,000 units, it was said, were not configured into the system. Therefore, anyone could use his/her cards in the new units. The allegation being levelled against the INEC and some of its officials, according to sources, is that with the North having been assigned 21,000 of the new polling units as against the South’s paltry 9,000, the commission would have skewed the result of the 2015 polls in favour of its preferred political party. “There are 30,000 units which could accommodate any card unlike the initial 120,000 polling units which can only accept cards that have been registered at the units. You now have floating card readers in the 30,000 polling units. What can happen with 21,000 polling units where any card can be used to vote is better imagined,” revealed the source. Since INEC announced the creation of additional 30,000 polling units, criticisms have trailed the idea. Although Professor Jega had, on various occasions, explained that INEC did it with good intention, major stakeholders insisted the commission erred by undertaking such an action, which even a committee of the Senate had declared illegal. In spite of a court action instituted by political parties, especially Unity Party of Nigeria, Professor Jega has ignored such calls to halt the idea of new polling units, insisting they have come to stay http://tribune.com.ng/news/top-stories/item/20361-revealed-how-30-000-new-polling-units-ll-be-used-to-rig-2015-elections |
IYANGBALI:just as they did in 2011, right? Take it or leave, "the north" is no longer one. |
morbid:there is nothing like "the north" anymore. This is not 1956, we are now in 2014. Please take note! |
Adminisher:listen to yourself. If all the APC governors are better than GEJ as you claim, then why can't APC give us a young and vibrant governor as its presidential candidate rather than presenting a dinosaur (Buhari) as its candidate? |
How I wish APC could give us a better candidate that can send the shoeless GEJ back to Otuoke in 2015. But unfortunately they would not give us a better alternative. But Buhari, a nineteenth century dictator to come and rule a twenty-first century democratic Nigeria? No way! |
Strong indications emerged in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State yesterday that the rumoured impeachment move against Governor Ayodele Fayose was not hoax. A security source, who craved anonymity, confirmed to THISDAY yesterday that independent reports conducted by major security outfits in the state, pointed to the fact that there were clandestine moves by some lawmakers to remove the governor. The governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) dominated House of Assembly have been embroiled in crisis since he was swornin over allegation by Fayose and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the lawmakers from the opposition caucus were allegedly plotting to impeach the governor. But the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adewale Omirin, who is the leader of APC in the assembly, his deputy, Hon. Adetunji Orisalade and the Majority Leader, Hon. Churchill Adedipe, had stoutly refuted the allegation, branding it as a wild imagination of the PDP. Omirin further went to counsel Fayose against heating up the polity and stoking the fire of disunity, saying such action would not be in the interest of his administration and the people of the state. However, while some people took Fayose’s allegation with a pinch of salt on the premise that it could be a blackmail to browbeat the lawmakers to supporting him, a security source confirmed that the litany of reports conducted by agencies in the state confirmed such. “What was contained in the reports of some major security agencies confirmed that the lawmakers still owe allegiance to some people within and outside the state. “Reports confirmed that there were pressure from some external and internal forces on the lawmakers to unsettle the governor. “And when you talk of a set of lawmakers unsettling the governor, it could mean to destabilise his government, make him functionless and ineffective, to cause chaos or ultimately to impeach him. We knew that the speaker is a peace-loving person, but the burden of loyalty might pose a serious problem to him as a party man. “But we are closely monitoring the situation and the recent reports show that the resistance by the people had made some of the lawmakers to backdown on their action. “So the mindset of the lawmakers had changed and I believe there will be peace between the two arms in no distant time,” he said. Meanwhile, Fayose has alerted members of the public on activities of some fraudsters, operating fake facebook accounts in his name, with the intention to use them to dupe unsuspecting members of the public. Fayose in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, yesterday, warned members of the public against falling victims of the fraudsters, operating the fake facebook accounts. The governor who said he was compelled to once again alert the public on activities of the fraudsters said money was being demanded from people by the fake facebook operators in exchange for government contracts. Warning the public to beware of fraudsters, Fayose said: “It has come to our notice that some facebook accounts have been opened by some fraudulent elements in the name of Fayose. “The accounts are being used to dupe unsuspecting members of the public. Last week, we alerted the public on a certain Dr A.U Richard with phone number: 08162404959, who is among the operators of the fake facebook accounts. “Another operator goes by the name Mike Ikochi, with phone number: 08123254564. As at today, the fraudsters are yet to desist from their nefarious activities, and we wish to warn members of the public not to relate with anyone, claiming to be Fayose on facebook. “Already, we have contacted facebook owners on the fraud and anyone who does business with whoever that is parading himself as Fayose on facebook does so at his or her own risk.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/impeachment-plot-against-fayose-security-reports-indict-assembly-members/192340/

barcanista:it is left for APGA to deal with their members who defected to the PDP. |
A political interest group, the Turaki Vanguard, has asked former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to withdraw from the 2015 presidential race. The group, made up of loyalists of the former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, said in a statement on Thursday that Buhari, having contested three times and lost, cannot add anything new to the fortunes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s presidential election. “We are making this call on the former head of state with all sense of responsibility having in mind that Buhari will neither enrich the race nor enhance the political fortunes of the opposition APC which Nigerians hope will salvage their country from the 15 years of death grip and mis-governance of the PDP,” the group said. Both Buhari and Atiku are among the frontrunners seeking the APC’s ticket for the presidential election. The group’s call came on the heels of a similar admonition by a popular Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmed Gumi, who advised Buhari, against running for the president for the fourth time. In a statement issued by its National President, Oladimeji Fabiyi, the Turaki Vanguard said: “We, the members of the Turaki Vanguard, a political pressure group operating independently of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, having carefully monitored and observed recent pro-Buhari activities sponsored by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hereby call on him to quit the presidential race.” However, what came as a surprise is the group’s allegation that the ruling PDP, might have been pushing for the Buhari candidacy, because they are sure of defeating him and would be comfortable with his candidacy. “In making this call, we are mindful of the need for all patriotic Nigerians to help prevent another political ridicule of a former Nigerian leader like Buhari, which would be unavoidable if he continues with his 2015 aspiration. “We hope the elderly and revered General will heed our advice and those of other respectable Nigerians like Sheikh Ahmad Gumi,” it added. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/drop-your-presidential-bid-atiku-group-tells-buhari/192122/
