Foreign Affairs / Re: UN Votes, Rejects Trump's Decision On Recognition Of Jerusalem As Israel Capital by Ayekooto2013: 8:41pm On Dec 21, 2017
datribune:
d right decision
While Trump, the "p*ssy grabber" is just playing politics by energizing his political base of Evangelicals in d USA, Netanyahu is a dangerous & dishonest right wing zionist extremist who does not believe in peace. He had to resign his appointment as finance Minister in protest to Sharon's giving back of Gaza to d Palestinians in furtherance of d 2-state solution & peace.

As an enlightened Christian, i realize dat d Israel to whom God gave d land is not the same nation dat we call Israel today. God gave the land to a people united to him by a solemn covenant ( Ex. 19-20 ). The present state of Israel is a state that does not recognize d God of d Bible as its supreme Lord. These unbelieving Jews hav been broken off frm dis covenant for in their unbelief they regard Christianity as idolatry & Jesus as a false prophet who came to turn humanity away frm God.

Hmm Enlightened! I suggest you leave that to others to decide. Please tell and show from the scriptures why you think that the "solemn covenant ( Ex. 19-20 )" you quoted is no longer standing. Can you also explain what Paul meant in Romans 11?. Let me share some verses to save time.

11 I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.

2 No, God has not rejected his own people, whom he chose from the very beginning. Do you realize what the Scriptures say about this? Elijah the prophet complained to God about the people of Israel and said, 3 “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”[a]

4 And do you remember God’s reply? He said, “No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”

5 It is the same today, for a few of the people of Israel[c] have remained faithful because of God’s grace—his undeserved kindness in choosing them. 6 And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.

7 So this is the situation: Most of the people of Israel have not found the favor of God they are looking for so earnestly. A few have—the ones God has chosen—but the hearts of the rest were hardened...

And jump to v28...

28 Many of the people of Israel are now enemies of the Good News, and this benefits you Gentiles. Yet they are still the people he loves because he chose their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
29 For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.

How does this support your position below?

Autos / 10 Warning Signs To Watch Out For In Older Vehicles by Ayekooto2013: 10:07am On Nov 11, 2017
Getting 322,000 kilometers of use – or more – from a vehicle is an impressive feat, but it’s not impossible. Owners should be aware, though, that as a vehicle approaches that milestone, many of its components will start to wear out.

You’ll see some warning signs, or red flags. Pay attention to them and you can avoid the double whammy of being stranded and slapped with an expensive, unexpected repair. Consumer Reports (CR) identifies the common signs to be the following:

1. Brakes
2. Mechanical Components Reaching the End of Life
3. Noisy Exhaust System
4. Electrical Components Beginning to Fail
5. Moisture Buildup
6. Outdated Shocks and Struts
7. Failing Radiator
8. Oil Consumption and Leaks
9. Spark Plugs That Haven’t Been Changed
10. Rust

Below are more detail covering the implications of these signs, the consequences of ignoring them and what can be done to resolve them.

1. Brakes
What are the warning signs? “A spongy or sinking brake pedal can be a sign of a failing brake master cylinder,” says CR’s chief mechanic, John Ibbotson.

Can I do it myself? Unless you’ve worked on brakes with someone else, this is a job for a qualified mechanic.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? In the worst-case scenario, you’ll have a brake failure and end up in a crash. In the best scenario, you’ll wear the brake pads down to their metal backing plates, resulting in poor braking performance and a loud metal-on-metal noise when you try to stop the car.

CR’s best advice: You should have your brakes checked regularly and change the brake fluid as recommended in the owner’s manual. Don’t do the work yourself unless you are absolutely confident in your ability.

2. Mechanical Components Reaching the End of Life
What are the warning signs? Even the strongest original parts can wear out. “Don’t go cheap on replacement parts in order to save a few bucks,” Ibbotson says. “If you replaced worn parts with substandard knockoffs, they might be on their way to failure much sooner than the original equipment.” Slow cranking of the engine can be a sign of a failing battery or alternator.

Can I do it myself? If you’re mechanically inclined and used to working on cars, you can probably replace the alternator and maybe the power steering pump. But it’s best to have a mechanic handle the steering rack.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? If your alternator fails, your car has no way of charging the battery. Eventually the vehicle will leave you stranded, either from a lack of battery voltage or because you won’t be able to start it. A bad power-steering pump means it will get more difficult to turn the wheels. Ignoring the steering rack can be dangerous because you might lose the ability to steer.

CR’s best advice: Don’t mess around with steering components; get them handled ASAP. And don’t ignore a bad or failing alternator. Note that some premium parts may come with a lifetime warranty, so be sure to ask when buying.

3. Noisy Exhaust System
What are the warning signs? “You can tell that your exhaust system is reaching the end of its life because your car will get increasingly louder,” Ibbotson says. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous and should be repaired at the first sign.

Can I do it myself? No.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? Exhaust fumes will eventually enter the vehicle and could make occupants ill.

CR’s best advice: You should have a mechanic or a muffler/exhaust shop do the repairs. And don’t go with cheap catalytic converters; they probably won’t last very long and you’ll be back in the same situation in a couple of years.

4. Electrical Components Beginning to Fail
What are the warning signs? “Don’t be surprised if features such as power windows, windshield wipers, and even the instrument panel go into a state of disorder or disrepair,” Ibbotson says. “The problems can be frustratingly difficult to trace.”

Can I do it myself? The door and window components can be handled by a home mechanic who has experience working on cars. The windshield parts are trickier to work on, but it’s still something a competent amateur mechanic can handle. But the oxygen sensors should be replaced by a professional mechanic.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? You may not be able to lock or unlock your door or raise and lower the windows if you ignore those components. Your windshield will be messy and difficult to see through if you don’t fix the washer pump or wiper motor.

CR’s best advice: Keeping the windshield clean isn’t just an appearance issue, it’s a safety one, too. Get that handled ASAP. The door and window components are somewhat less important – unless you can’t lock your car manually or the windows are stuck open in the rain!

5. Moisture Buildup
What are the warning signs? If it seems that the inside of your windshield is always fogging up or you are mysteriously losing coolant, it’s likely that the heater core is starting to fail.

Can I do it myself? No.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? You’ll notice poor defrosting capability that results in decreased visibility. If left for too long, it can result in the engine overheating, leading to engine damage.

CR’s best advice: “Even the smallest pinholes will cause interior fogging,” Ibbotson says. “It’s most likely going to be an expensive repair, because the heater core is under the dashboard.” Use a high-quality replacement unit to avoid having to repeat the repair again too soon.

6. Outdated Shocks and Struts
What are the warning signs? Does your car bounce up and down as you drive down the road? You may need new shocks or struts, Ibbotson says. Uneven tire wear is also an early indicator of this.

Can I do it myself? Not unless you own a lot of tools, are very handy, and have plenty of time. Make an appointment with a mechanic.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? You’ll experience poor or dangerous handling, and you could wind up with excessive and uneven tire wear.

CR’s best advice: Get it done as soon as you notice the warning signs in order to avoid any safety issues.

7. Failing Radiator
What are the warning signs? “A failing radiator or thermostat can cause the engine to run too hot or eventually overheat,” Ibbotson says. Low fluid levels in the coolant reservoir could indicate a leak in the radiator, engine, hoses, or all three.

Can I do it myself? No.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? An engine that runs too hot can overheat, damaging the internal parts. This could result in the engine failing, forcing you to get a replacement.

CR’s best advice: Routinely check and top off your vehicle’s coolant, especially before long road trips. If the fluid level looks low or you see the engine temperature is often very high, make an appointment with a mechanic as soon as possible.

8. Oil Consumption and Leaks
What are the warning signs? Increased oil consumption is common in older cars, so don’t panic if your car seems thirstier the older it gets. But if you think you’re topping off the oil too much, it could be a sign of a bigger leak.

Can I do it myself? An oil and filter change can be done by most competent home mechanics who have the proper tools. But it usually isn’t worth the savings to do it yourself because you still have to dispose of the oil. If you think there’s a leak or the oil light has come on in your car, immediately check the oil level. Then take the vehicle to a professional to find out what’s wrong.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? Oil lubricates the engine parts and helps dissipate heat. So running out of oil will result in the internal engine parts contacting each other directly and wearing out prematurely. Never changing the oil will result in the engine seizing; if that happens, it will have to be replaced.

CR’s best advice: Routinely check and top off your vehicle’s oil between changes, especially before long road trips.

9. Spark Plugs That Haven’t Been Changed
What are the warning signs? If you haven’t changed the plugs in 161,000 kilometers of use, the engine runs rough and misfires, or you have trouble starting your car, you should replace the spark plugs. Buying the right kind and getting the right service can make all the difference.

Can I do it myself? While spark plugs come pre-gapped – that is, there’s the appropriate amount of space between the center and side electrodes of the plug – you have to use a special tool to make sure they are gapped to your car’s requirements. If it isn’t gapped properly, the plug won’t make a spark to ignite the gas. Make sure you buy the right type of plug for your make and model at an auto-parts store.

With cars built before the 1990s, you can probably do the job yourself. But with most newer models, Ibbotson recommends having the dealer or a certified repair shop handle it.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? You might see your fuel economy and engine performance get worse.

CR’s best advice: If maintained well, spark plugs can last 161,000 kilometers. By the 320,000 mark, you could be overdue for installing a third set of plugs. Make an appointment with your dealer or a trusted mechanic to have the work done.

10. Rust
What are the warning signs? It starts with paint that looks like it has bubbles forming. Once you see even a little bit forming around the wheel wells, hood, trunk, or suspension mounting points, there could be a serious problem beneath the surface.

Can I do it myself? No.

What’s the cost? It depends on the extent of the damage. If you have rust, get several competing estimates on the work.

What happens if I ignore the red flag? You can patch surface rust, but that will only slow down the problem. Replacing body panels on a 200,000-mile car can be expensive. At this point, the clock has started ticking on how much longer you’re going to keep the car.

CR’s best advice: Have a professional repair shop check to see whether it’s surface rust or there’s a structural weakness that will make your car less safe in a crash.

Politics / Re: "We Were Saying Rubbish During The Campaign" - President Buhari. by Ayekooto2013: 8:44am On May 31, 2016
“We had to cut down half the number of permanent secretaries and then do some cross postings. The permanent secretaries that were there for the past five, seven, 15 years the only thing that they know is how things were done in the previous years. Whatever we did in the campaign, in fact we were saying rubbish and that made it very difficult for us.

It seems this is just a case of poor English comprehension and it is appalling so many could not pick this up. The President was not saying that they said rubbish during the campaign. I think he is saying this concerning the Permanent Secretaries. That to the Permanent Secretaries, the APC campaign promises are rubbish thereby making it difficult to get them to buy into them, and consequently resulting into many of them being fired or redeployed.

If we have to argue, let it be on something more appropriate please.

This story is now stale ! Work out ur own salvation. It's a personal thing you know !

God help us

Yeah. It is. But there are times you have to call what is evil as evil and sinful as sinful according to the scripture. If we all focus on our own salvation alone, I doubt we would consider it necessary to preach salvation and the gospel to others since its really a personal thing.

Image123:

We should be concerned at the stance of the OP and his cohorts. They have made it a case against Oyedepo. Oyedepo was not even there at the time of the OP's incidence. He says it happened in Abuja nine years ago, between him and a church traffic worker or is it 12 people. How did this progress to a case between the accuser and Oyedepo? And then talking about cases to answer in UK or whatever. Is this arithmetic progression or geometric progression? How is it that two church bishops, some four other church elders have begged this guy with scriptures, offered him cold water and juice, fixed his tyres and whatever, and yet he is today looking for official apology? i find it very very difficult to believe that such a person is a christian. He might be oh, if he says he is, well i cannot say he is not. But assuming that he is a christian and a church member for 5 years, if he has a grudge or quarrel with a fellow church member, the Bible is clear about what he ought to do. Others have stated what he ought to do, even his elders told him what to do according to the OP.
Jesus was maltreated by the Roman soldiers. This is not a case of church member versus church member, or christian versus church. Its not exactly the same context, neither did Jesus personally go about publishing how he was maltreated. He did not go to any police station to report them, neither did he do wrong like the accuser. Infact, the same day, he openly prayed for their forgiveness. Most of the persecution of the church were not written by the persecuted themselves, and this is not a case of persecution. Anyone that has been to these 'big' gatherings know that most of them employ para-military and military to control traffic. Some of these are not necessarily church members but may be headed by a church member. Most of them have guard rooms because anybody can come to the gathering with ulterior motive. Recalcitrant people and juvenile delinquents end up in these places for some duration. A person who has been attending a place for five years should have noticed these kind of things, and know how to behave himself or herself. Some of these gatherings use public transport officers, lagbus, frsc, lastma, lawma etc to help with some things. Not all church employees are church members. So if one random person out of millions act in a particular way, we should not force our way to tie it to the GO's head or the Bishop's head. And then we start raining insult on his person and how he is a thief and must be punished and bla bla.
The accuser said "d state govt should come against them with d full might of d law, no institution is above d laws of this land and this kind of impunity disguising as "anointing" must stop." Do you really think that this is the way Paul felt about his persecutors? Church tradition tells us about the persecution of the apostles and their matrydom. It was not the apostles themselves that were keeping the issue for nine years, looking for vengeance. When Peter was at fault in Galatia, and Paul was writing about it, it was a believers to believers thing. i verily doubt that Paul thought that the whole world would get to read that. And bible students know the lesson to learn from the account. Peter himself was immediately corrected and so too were the Galatians. What exhortation have we gotten from the OP? Who has read the Op and said praise the Lord, or thank God? Is the OP's motive Paul's motive?
Can you tell us Alexander's offence to Paul? Paul wrote to Timothy as a son, and for Tim's safety. He did not gather scribes to tell the detailed account of what Alexander did to him. He did not appeal to Caesar or go to any centurion or court. It was all a church matter. Not concealed, but settled in house. that is exactly what Jo and co are telling the OP.

1Co 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
1Co 6:5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
1Co 6:6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
1Co 6:7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
1Co 6:8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

A good perspective but sadly one-sided. If you would judge an issue, the scripture expect you to consider both side and judge without partiality. Many rush to cover up wrong-doing like this in the name of being good christians but end up putting themselves across as partial.
That the man went to the Police does not make him guilty and deserving of all the assault he faced. It also does not also exonerate the organizers of blame.
You may also wish to let us know categorically if a christian taking a christian to the police or court for that matter is absolutely sinful and unscriptural, even as a first course of action.

Christianity in Nigeria is becoming all about money and human worship. Jesus said the only way you will know a true believer is by their fruits, not by the size of their bank account, how famous they are or how wealthy they have become. A true believer is supposed to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit - love, gentleness, kindness, patience, joy, long suffering, meekness and others.
That is what set us apart from others - not our bank account. Like the scripture says, we suppose that gain is godliness.
The world hates christians not because of their holiness, but because of their hypocrisy.
Many can't even discern spiritually how to judge issues like this. God help us! Judgement is coming, and it will start from the house of God!

emmysenior: Only God can judge.

Wrong! The bible also says these:

"Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he (Jesus) said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged." (Luke 7:43)
"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." (John 7:24)
"Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?" (1 Cor 6:2)
"But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one" (1 Cor 2:15)
"The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment." (Psa 37:30)
"Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Now, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city?Yes, show her all her abominations!" (Ezek 22:2)

Religion / Ese Walter COZA Sex Scandal: Does The Bible Tell Christians To Judge Not? by Ayekooto2013: 8:09pm On Aug 26, 2013
In Nigeria today, the scripture in Matthew 7:1, "Judge not that ye be not judged." is used many times when questions are asked of certain believers regarding their conducts. Ever since the Ese Walter story broke, I have read many posts where people quoted this scripture as a reason to stay silent on the issue. But does the verse really meant we should keep quiet when there are question marks on people's actions and behaviors?
Let us see some other scriptures in the bible that say something about judging others:

"Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Now, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city?Yes, show her all her abominations!"
(Ezek 22:2)

With all the above scriptures and many similar ones not quoted, where then do people get the idea that we are not to judge?

The answer is in the same scripture in Matthew 7 when put in its proper context. To get the context, you need to read the verses that follow.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

These verses do not tell us not to judge, rather it is a warning that if you judge, you must judge rightly and in a matter you are not presently guilty of yourself or rather not judge at all.

Can we then judge rightly? Yes we can (see 1 Cor 6:2,1 Cor 2:15, etc quoted above). But he that judges must first ensure he is not presently guilty of the same thing he judges others on. For instance, an adulterer is not in a good position to judge another adulterer, knowing fully well that he would be judged with the same measure. If he does, he is an hypocrite. Matthew 7:5 also implies that you can rightly judge others once you remove the beam in your own eyes.

However, there are areas where the scripture expects us to judge and there are areas we are asked to refrain from passing judgment. But here is not the place to discuss all that. Bottom-line is, any judgement we make must be in line with the word of God and its motivation should be deeply rooted in love and righteousness.

Should we not judge at all as some portrays it nowadays? No.

God said, "When I say to a wicked man, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself" (Ezekiel 3:18-19)

He also commended the Church of Ephesus for judging false apostles as false: "I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false" (Revelation 2:2)

Not judging between what is right and what is wrong when you are in position to do so is buying into the world's standard of tolerance. But the scripture tells us "...we ought to obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29)

In summary, righteous judgement is godly and redemptive, unrighteous judgment is evil and destructive.

Some people sounded as if they never knowingly engage in acts of sins that they knew is wrong but still went on and do it anyway. Those are the kind that often bring guilt and you usually don't feel right until you do something about it.
So blame the sinner.
So go ahead and blame the sinner. In situations like this, men get the benefit of doubt and the woman all the blame. If David was a pastor today, the same pple blaming the girl today would blame Bathsheeba for a calculated attempt to seduce David by taking her bath where the King can see her in broad daylight.
See, human hearts have not changed much, only time has passed.
Let us wait and see what the Pastor would say. If he denies it and its true, I will be sorry for him because God would show him up later, then it might even be too late to help him.
If its a lie from Ese, then God would fight for him.
However to take this accusation slightly and try to head the blame on the lady and make the Pastor a victim is ungodly, unrighteous and ignorant. Remember Achan? He sinned and Israel suffered (innocent people died) until he was exposed and judged. That is why the church is called the "body". When a part is infected and not attended to, it could lead to the death of the whole body. COZA members should be wary of covering up their Pastor's sin if it is true or they would partake of his sins and effects.
1 Timothy 5:20 says "... those elders who are sinning you are to reprove before everyone, so that the others may take warning"

Well, guess I am not surprised at the blame poured on Ese. Many years ago, some guys grabbed a woman accused of adultery and brought her to Jesus, saying the law commands that they stone her, wanting to hear what Jesus would say.
Guess what, Jesus was not only smarter than they were, He was righteous too. He ask him that has no sin to cast the first stone and no one could. We all assume Jesus extended grace to the woman and was teaching us not to judge others. No sir! He was teaching us to be righteous in judgment as God is. You see, the law actually stated that a man and a woman caught in adultery should be stoned. But these guys decided to bring only the woman as if she committed adultery with herself. They were not being good followers of the law, they were being hypocrites and so does anyone here who puts all the blame on the woman alone. They probably do or would do the same thing in their own positions too. Ese did not accuse the Pastor of rape, just adultery. If the Pastor does not admit his error and step aside for a while to protect his flock from satanic attack because Satan now has a legal foothold to use, innocent people would suffer.
If you would not spare a corrupt politician for continually stealing public funds because everyone "makes mistakes" and you won't leave him in the same place or position to continue his plundering until he can prove he has dealt with his "theiving" tendency; you would not support the Pastor.
And for some trying hard to convince some pple to the point of throwing insults, consider these verses. Proverb 26:4-5 says; Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes.
Judgment has begun in the house of God and all men would soon fear!
Selah!
