I agree with ayettymama on some points, being moderately fat is not necessarily unhealthy IF energy expenditure is considered. The whole BMI calculation does NOT account for fitness but only body weight in correlation with height. So, a person's sedentary lifestyle plays a role. You can be fat while eating healthy foods and exercising. In this case, is the person unhealthy? No. One can be slim on the other hand, without engaging in any physical activity but really, that person isn't healthy.

But I don't agree with the food thing being okay for blacks and not whites. That's unfounded.

But yea, obese(Very over-weight) people are generally prone to suffer from CDV(Cardiovascular)-related diseases, diabetes, and some cancers. Underweight people are also prone to diseases, they're just not CDV-related.

its obvious that morbid obesity just like severe malnutrition isnt a good look for ones health, i dont dispute that

look at it this way- there is evidence (though very little like i say they dont give two abt you) that blacks have a higher bone density and muscle mass than any other race- and its been given as a reason why blacks tend to do better in sports

now the food we consume goes towards energy produced to support the bodies essential functions- that in all races will be the same

If its tru that blacks have more muscle however, then the BMR will be higher- in order to support that you need more energy and so will consume more food

science apart you can just see it ive always found it quite funny sef

a caucasian/asian can be a size 16 and weigh 12 stone?? a black person of the same height and weight will prob weigh 20- i have always found that very strange

no2 this is just something else ive noticed ooo- it might not be tru, but they generally dont eat much, i mean i can count the amt of chips in a typical british dinner while an african is busy compounding his 30cm diameter plate with rice and adding 4pieces of meat and two drumsticks- and the man will still be skinny!!!!! kaii its not even rocket science, its just that nowadays we live more sedentary lifestyles. but a black person can still get away with it.

the moral of the story is the fact that most people deem fat people generally unpleasent to look at thats why they continue complaining, and they use cardiovascular jargons as an excuse! how does ini edo bein fat bother the poster?? does it add or remove yrs from ur life?? does her weight dock from ur salary? are u her husband?? abeg talk betta tin!

i begin by asking how many peopl unno with bad hearts??- how fat are/were they??

how many people do unno have died by high cholesterol levels??

so how exactly can we judge health by weight when we havent actually witnessed anyone killed by it??

how many fat people do unno?? how many of them have debilitating diseases??

how many people do unno with diseases?? are they all fat??

im not saying we shouldnt take what were told serious but when these studies are put in place

no1 they arent for black people (they couldnt care less abt you)

and no2 we actually do have diff bone/muscle mass densities, higher average metabolic rates

and back in africa thier are factors like sun, active lifestyles, and outside activities

in western countries they dont have that- thats why we have gyms because people dont walk miles in the sun

our food is not healthy for white people- but its healthy for our people

esp with the amt of work/stress the average nigerian will go thru daily

what is in sudan or ethiopia??- do unno what they eat??

no- being fat is not unhealthy, its just unpleasant to most- thats why they started making the studies in the first place

if in doubt pls give me all the info of people unno that have died in the past 5 yrs and how fat they were??

You forget that those who were out were once in and that did not change things. I am with Gamine, moving back will not change things. I would rather people ONLY move back if THEY REALLY BELIEVE they have an idea to change Nigeria for good from the inside. The last thing we need is another wave of diasporans come back in the name of "change" only to come get their share of the national cake. I cannot tell you how many such I have seen. Most every interview with diaporans usually ends with them having more money, higher post, houses than they could have if they had stayed back abroad. I am not sure that is the definition of CHANGE for Nigeria.

You probably have a work force of around 2million who earn between N100,000 and N2million per annum. Around 100,000 people will earn between N3million and N30million per annum. Lagos is not a wealthy place. The majority are STRUGGLING to survive, there is extreme poverty, strife, hunger and homelessness. Trying to discredit the BBC for spending close to 2years putting together this interesting, positive and informative documentary because it challenges your ego and pride does not detract from the truth. If you are so irritated by the portrayal of Nigeria in the media, go back to your country and build it yourself instead of clamoring at embassies for US and British visas and passports. Nigerians that live abroad have lost touch with the reality in Lagos. 99.9% of the rich people that live on the Island have stolen their wealth from Nigeria, there is nothing commendable to film amongst a bunch of thieves. This documentary shows the true spirit of the people that make up the country, not the thieves that continue to plunder, destroy and rob that nation blind. If you can't handle it, take a camera and go and film your own documentary about the lives of the elite. This is a real documentary, with real people in a real place that exists till today. Support your country by moving back!!!!
