Sahara Reporters owner, Omoyele Sowore has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan once tried to induce him with money.

THE VENT REPUBLIC reports that Sowore in an interview with Maazi Ezeoke of Njenje Media claimed that the former Nigerian president had through his aide, Mr. Ima Niboro tried to unsuccessfully trigger his loyalty via financial inducement.

Below are excerpts from the interview:

“I never received funding from any politician. In fact, Jonathan tried to give me money through Ima Niboro his former aide when he came to New York. They said Atiku bought me a $5 million house in California. If I had any dealings with APC when they detained me don’t you think they would have put out things about me to the public as they did to Nnamdi Kanu? They would have blackmailed me. They even asked me what I wanted and I said nothing. They wanted me to apologize to Buhari so that they would let me go according to my lawyer Femi Falana. I started as a student union activist when they were distributing Peugeot 505 to the leaders.”

It remains to be seen if the camp of the former Nigerian President would respond to this very damaging allegation.

Popular rapper and singer, Laycon has gone philosophical in the aftermath of the release of his visual effort, 'Fall For Me'.

The Big Brother Naija winner apparently referring to trolls and those who run down one's craft averred that they derive pleasure in pulling down the intellectual work of others.

THE VENT REPUBLIC reports that Laycon in a tweet-thread advised the recipient of such animosity on steps to take.

He wrote:

"Okay so lemme tell you guys something about people who come online to devalue you or your hard work. I opine that they derive some form of pleasure or accomplishment from doing that. That's the only logical reason. So what do you as a person do...?"


"You pray for them, you thank God for giving you purpose and for using you as a tool to satisfy some other people's appetite. You appreciate the fact that your existence makes these people have some form of accomplishment even if it is misguided."

"You don't pay attention to them. You just keep doing you and keep motivating yourself. You'll keep growing and your growth will keep fueling their negativity. But your prayers for them will hopefully help them find happiness in the joy of others. Me I don drop video, abeg stream."

Do You Love Me?

How does this sound to you if you are asked?

Do you feel the urge to answer or to ‘shalaye'( Yoruba parlance ; to give explanations) why the question isn’t meant for you?

What really is love?

It is literarily an intense feeling of love and affection, from a man to man, woman, or animal.

Permit to go Biblical. According to St. Paul, it says it is patient and long suffering as a summary of the long explanation that it gives for it. God also gave man his ultimate love by giving him his son to die for his sins so that his eternity in bliss can be assured.

Other definitions of love are Agape – the love between God and man; Philio – the love between man and his fellow mortals.

I had 3 former colleagues in my work-place (2 males and a female) and they were cool acquaintances until I popped the question ‘Do you love me?‘. The female colleague was a friend I do banter with together when we were colleagues at work, she serenades me stuffs about her guy and I also talked about my other escapades, we were friends with no relationship inclinations even though we cruise, banter and flirt. I never asked her out and I didn’t intend to. So in the middle of a WhatsApp conversation one day, as a prelude to this article, I popped the question; “Do you love me?“. Her reply reflected the reason for this write-up, the misconception about the word ‘Love.’ She began to lecture me on how we met and we are just colleagues, how we are not dating and how I should never have asked that question and all that. She was obviously pissed with my question. She probably thought my question was a kind of stuff to determine if she was either tripping for me or I’m planning something romantic. Her response was aggressive and I understand albeit the mindsets of the word love to mean something romantic.

Another ex colleague from the same workplace, this time a male was asked this question by me in the middle of a chat. I asked “Do you love me?”. His response jolted me more as he asked me when did I become gay to have asked him that question. He was like, he doesn’t trust me anymore , that he thinks I’m now doing men. Stuff felt ridiculous to me��‍♂️.

On to my third colleague, this one had a calm demeanor as that’s his nature, need I add that his status updates, his writings and postulations are akin to that of a motivational speaker. So I thought his may be different and I popped the question ‘Do you love me.’ Omo, I received another shock from my motivational speaker turned friend as he asked me if he’s my girlfriend that he would love me. He further told me to ask my girlfriend such question.

These three friends are actually good people and they are still wonderful people but their responses reflected the societal definition of the word ‘Love’; We assume and believe that only those in romantic relationships are qualified to love and use the word ‘I love you’ on each other. It’s just a mindset and this needs to change.

Love and loving someone is bigger than just having a romantic inclination with that person, it supersedes a boyfriend/girlfriend spousal relationship, it is deeper than that. It is the affection you have for someone or thing, whether romantic, agape or what have you.

God is love and we are expected to show love and love each other. The Bible did not say Love your spouse as yourself but love your neighbor as yourself. So loving someone or being loved goes beyond just having a romantic tang with the person.

It is pertinent to understand that there is universal love as well as individual love, universal love as it denotes is the love that is shown to all manner of persons, irrespective of their genders and whatnot, it is that passionate affection that has been preached upon and encouraged by all religions and their great teachers, it is that godly practice which if engaged in attracts immense joy and abundant blessings, for whatever you give, you receive in equal measure and more.

Love is one of the most bastardized and abused terms in man’s semantic usage. It is the source of heartbreaks among romantic couples and if the high rate of divorce is anything to go by, then it is one of the world’s most gargantuan scams. Why do couples who make marital vows before God and Man to be together till death does them part separate at the slightest provocation if indeed love reigned supreme between them? Don’t the feelings of the children matter that research has shown develop better with both parents? What about the ugly incidents of celebrities washing their dirty linen in public when their ‘love’ goes sour? Did love really and truly exist in the first place? We heard the recent case of a Nigerian-American medical doctor based in Texas who shot his nurse wife and then shot himself in the head leaving three distraught children to face life alone. What really could have caused their once shared love to degenerate to beastly hate? We have read about many Nigerian men based in the Diaspora especially in the United States murdering their wives in cold blood? Why did the love once freely shared and flaunted with reckless abandon before the world even on social media grow so cold all of a sudden?

The significance of universal love cannot be overstated, it is that love that is unconditional in its operations, it is given without expecting anything in return. This is quite unlike individual love which is usually given with the expectation of something in return, as in the case of two lovers of the opposite sexes where the truism of their love for each other is most times doubted and put to question when either the man or woman involved are unwilling to make their money or body available for each other, respectively.

Flowing from the above, it is right to conclude that it is a sign of selfishness to argue and believe that the concept of love is only practiced between the two genders, which of course come with benefits derived by both. Universal love as explained earlier is without attachments and without expecting anything in return, it is simply that love shown to a fellow human being, even though it is clearly distinct and should be so, from individual and romantic love, for each operates in its own sphere. There is no doubt indeed that those who practice universal love are doing God’s work in the universe and they are the salt of earth.

Love is what makes the world go round and is indeed the greatest gift that God has bequeathed to humanity. Like a flower, it is to be constantly nurtured so that it doesn’t wither and die. Love isn’t a feeling; it is the product of a conscious decision to accommodate the deficiencies of the next person without expecting anything in return. Life will be chaotic without love and this gift should be highly cherished as it is the fulcrum that makes existence worth living.

All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu, says he will never be part of any carnage.

Tinubu was reacting to Tuesday night attack which saw security forces open fire on #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State.

The former Lagos State governor spoke on Wednesday morning in a telephone interview with Channels Television monitored by The PUNCH.

He condemned the action allegedly perpetrated by the Nigerian Army, saying, “Why will they use live bullets?

“I will never, never be part of any carnage. I will never be part of that.”

Tinubu also denied having any investment in the Lekki Concession Company, the firm which manages the tollgate.

“I have no dime, no kobo investment in the tollgate,” he said.

Continuing, the APC chieftain said, “We are about 13 to 14 days into the protests now. Before now, I was being accused and reported to the Presidency that I was behind the protests, that I was a sponsor of the protests.”

Tinubu said he refuted the allegations and “appealed to the youths” and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to respond to the demands of the protesters.

“That was why he (Sanwo-Olu) set up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The governor has gone to the home of one of the victims to appeal to them.

“He has put N200m together as part of restitution and compensation for those attacked.”

Tragedy struck when security operatives, in a bid to disperse #EndSARS protesters, reportedly opened fire on the teeming youths at the Lekki tollgate around 7pm on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses claimed seven persons, mostly youths, died in the attack while about 30 injured victims are currently receiving treatments at different hospitals in the Lekki area

Friday, April 17, 2020, didn’t go away without leaving its mark in the sands of time. It was a breaking news day; the news of the death of President Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari at 81,in the hands of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic. This is one event that is rightly discomfitting the powers that be at Aso Rock considering the larger than life role the late Chief of Staff played in the life of the President. His influence was such that allowed him to take up even ministerial duties as exemplified by his trip to Germany necessitating him to negotiate power deals with Siemens on behalf of the Federal government of Nigeria.

Without mincing words, Abba Kyari’s death has left a vacuum in the political space. We expect high level jostle for power in the coming days as to who will replace him. So, who’s feet is large enough to fit into what has definitely become, humongous shoes of the late Abba Kyari?

What we’ve done is to compile 5 plausible candidates who are likely favored to step in his shoe. They were selected based on a varying number of factors, antecedents, political clout and backup, affinity to the President and a whole lot of other political factors. They are as follows:

BABANGANA KINGINBE

He’s not a new face in the political firmament. Apart from being the SDP Vice-Presidential Candidate and running mate to Bashorun M.K.O Abiola in the 1993 botched Presidential election, he was thrice a Minister under Late General Sani Abacha’s stint as Head of State. He was first appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995, then Minister of Internal Affairs from 1995 to 1997 before he later became Minister of Power and Steel from 1997 to 1998.

Fast forward to the return of democratic rule, he was appointed by Late President Umaru Yaradua as Secretary to the Government of the Federation in June 2007 but left office in acrimonious circumstances by September 2008 after he was sacked by President Yaradua for allegedly undermining the Government.

Since the coming into office of the present Government, he has warmed his way into the top power echelon as he is reported to be part of the behind the scene decision makers in the Buhari Government. He said in one of his interviews that he would never contest against President Buhari when rumors were rife he was interested in the 2019 Presidency.

He is believed to be part of the famed cabal which has Mallam Daura, Abba Kyari as members.

It won’t hence be a surprise if he’s appointed as the new Chief of Staff to the President.

ABIOLA AJIMOBI


Incidentally his name cropped up in a fake news trend wherein it was reported that President Buhari sacked the now late Abba Kyari and was replaced with him. While that fake news is not the reason for Mr Ajimobi making the list, recent happenings in the political sphere has confirmed that the current APC Deputy National Chairman South is a joker being put forward by the Tinubu/APC South West camp in the event of a power shift. There were lot of political horse trading and maneuvering sequel to the former Oyo State Governor’s elevation as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Chairman as he faced opposition even from his South West Region. It was said that the Tinubu influence actually worked for him against all odds.

If the Tinubu/APC block had their way in the power equation and the jostle for control of the presidency, Ajimobi may likely emerge as the face of the block and probably the new Chief of Staff to President Buhari.

But there is another school of thought that reasoned that the Northern APC block may find it risky to cede that very important office to the West. This may hamper Chief Ajimobi’s chances.

BUBA MARWA


The former Lagos henchman is a favourite for the position considering his ties with the President and even the first family.

He has a long standing relationship with President Buhari not just because of their military background but also because they both served in the government of Late Sani Abacha. While Marwa served as Lagos State Military Administrator, President Buhari served as the Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF).

Marwa is said to enjoy the blessings of the First Lady, Aisha Buhari who is believed to have a soft spot for Mr Buba as they both hail from Adamawa State.

Gen. Marwa who was the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA) is not just in the front line for the new role but a hot favorite for the position.

However, it is believed he may not have the blessings of the Mallam Daura led decision tink-tank group because of his affiliation with First Lady Aisha Buhari with the latter having a bitter face-off with the famed cabal.

NUHU RIBADU


He may yet come in as a last minute shocker to be the new Chief of Staff to the President. While many opined he might be a light weight compared to other listed gladiators, public perception as his antecedents as EFCC boss may yet convince President Buhari to look his way.

Of the lot, he’s the one with the more acclaimed street credibility but he seems like a lone-ranger lacking the necessary backup from powerful sources. He’s also from Adamawa State, the First Lady’s home state but it remains to be seen if Mrs. Aisha would jettison her closeness to Buba Marwa to pitch tent with him.

The appointment of Nuhuru Ribadu as the Chief of Staff to the President may likely have the highest applause from the already disillusioned populace.

BOSS MUSTAPHA


The former Deputy National Chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and Bola Tinubu’s ally is the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

While he might be a green horn in the race, intrigues and twists of politics has taught us never to say never.

It may be argued in some quarters that since he’s currently the number 3 man in the Executive arm of Government, there would be no need for him to downgrade himself to a lesser position as Chief of Staff but that’s only in paper. The Chief of Staff office has been known in recent years to wield such powerful influence that it is opined in many quarters that the holder of the office is more powerful than the nation’s Vice-President. A Chief of Staff has Intel in almost every government project, contract and deals and he’s the go to go man to seek the President’s face. Boss Mustapha may be seen to be an objective figure as he’s allegedly close to the Mallam Daura led elders think-thank as well as the Bola Tinubu APC block.
