naijadrivablog: Why are you advicing against the KOMPRESSOR upgrade? Throw more light on that pls.
I am eyeing a C230 Kompressor Heard its actually difficult repairing it (Engine Kompressor) when its faulty. Thus you are advised to buy a new one. However, I think the Kompressor for the W202 and W203 are affordable. I can't vouch for more recent models sha.... |

naijanaso: Talking about the maintenance, MB from my experience turns out to be cheaper in the end. Change one component and go to sleep. Imagine my boot was hit and I changed it then (2005) for just N2500. Unbelievable right? When I love-vendor the car, I changed the four doors as I found it it was cheaper that panel beating. All 4 doors cost just N10,000. I bought the car in 2002. My boss did body work on his Corolla a year later and bang...the body parts were high heaven in price. W202 MB right? |

My quick take: The W202 model years for the C class are affordable and reliable. The C class W202 was manufactured between 1993 - 2000. Because of the satisfaction that is derived from style and elegance, it is advisable to tilt towards those manufactured in 1999/2000. Now you can go for: • C180, C240/C320 Avoid the Kompressor upgrade and 4matics. If you love speed - go for the C240 V6. Being a 6 cylinder engine they deliver between 150 - 160hp. However, if you ain't into speeding then the C180 (4 cylinder) is great at 129hp. To perfectly understand what the effects of the "hp" means: • Compare it with the power you feel while accelerating optimally with a Honda Accord 2003 - 05 with 160hp (5500rpm, 4cyl). • And a Toyota Camry 2003 - 05 with 157hp (500rpm, 4cyl). Now its easy to make your pick Though am loving the W203 (2001 - 2007) C180/C240 - (2002) right now |

AmuDimpka: You are right, that car is awesome....the compressor of ML320 (2005) that I am driving is 30k , the shocks is 25k for the 4 , the filter is 1,500, the ignition coil is 3k, the gear is 60k
And these things rarely get spoiled. Benz is a good brand.
But the ML headlamp the new model is about 45k to 50k last price! The ordinary headlamp is about 15k!
The only thing that is expensive in Benz to my own knowledge is the body parts
Like the back bumper of my car ...with sensor is about 130k without sensor is about 60k ...the same thing with the front bumpers.
The side mirrow casing with led indicator is 10k with the whole mirror setting is 30k ....the full windscreen is 20k
I. Talking from experience You guys are the bomb. These are the figures we all need. |

AmuDimpka: I wonder why they compare Lexus of Toyota to Benz...it's like using monitor lizard to compare an alligator...yes they are reptiles, yes they look alike but gator is more intense and immense
Also...Benz maintenance isn't that high...trust me, the plugs of Benz is just 1k , the oil filter of Benz is just 1,500, the shocks is about 25k for the four....and coming from Japanese background they are the same ...the only thing is that in Benz ...once you change the parts you can go to rest ! But Japanese every 5 months you do the changing....do you know the compressor for my Benz is 25k unlike Lexus that is about 60k , the catalyst is 30k for the four but in Honda pilots it's 50k , the power steering pump in Benz (ML) IS 25K While in pilot it's 28k.
So tell me how it's high and also in Benz it is built to German standard and be rest assured that it would last unlike these Asian brands Sorry, which Benz model and year were you referring to for the pricing of these parts? |

Well, the main aim of the thread is to give everyone an idea of the most reliable, economical and affordable Benz brand. In doing so, let us know: * Your average repair cost yearly * What gets damage often * Engine and gear cost * Any other important repair details. Acceleration and speed not priorities. This is just to help people like me pick a model and year brand that my humble pocket can carry |

greenhulk: Actually I disagree. The thing is all MB cars are luxury and come with rwd or awd so it is very very unfair to compare a c class to a Corolla which is just a compact passenger car with fwd. Try this.
MB c class = Lexus IS MB e class = Lexus GS or Acura TL type S
Now I'm not saying all Lexus IS are better than all c class but at least it's a fair comparison. Hmmm...MB C class is mainly a compact car class. With in it...u ve the C180 which directly compares with the Corolla and Civic. Infact, the C180 has a lower horsepower compared to the Corolla or Civic. With in the C class u also have variants that can compete with the Lexus, that is, the C230, C240 and C320. * Just my perspective. |

My Oga's can correct where I might be wrong. I am just a fresh lover of MB...so these are the few I have been able to dig up. Ayodaygee: For those passing through this thread...and are curious with these terms.
Here are some key notes:
* MB classified their cars in generations of W201, W202, W203 etc.
* Each W series represents a "GEN" just like in the Japanese automobile industry. The Jap's described theirs as 4th Gen, 5th Gen Toyota Corolla or Honda Accord. With each representing a range of production years.
* The MB C class is in the compact car category. Exactly the same category Toyota has for the Corolla and Honda had for the Civic.
* Others are: E class - Toyota's Camry and Honda's Accord B class - Toyota's Yaris and Honda's City
* Now this is where MB stands out:
For each CLASS, they provided options in Sedan form to the SUV (Jeep) option.
This means you can have a C class Jeep that was made with the intentions of being fuel efficient and compact.
Also for each class, they provided Natural aspirated engine forms and modified Engine forms
Thus:
C180 - Natural engine. Hp not too high and a 4cylinder engine. 1.8L engine.
C200 - Optimized engine with the Kompressor technology (now Turbo). 2.0L engine
C230 - a V6 engine with the intentions of being a compact car (2.6L). Now C240 in America.
C320 - another V6 engine in the compact zone but with more power.
Both C240 and C320 were made to be fuel efficient too. |

I learnt to drive while driving a Mercedes Benz (200D) with a manual transmission, maybe some 15 years ago. So I think I must have forgotten the balance and feel you have driving a Benz. Fast forward, to two weeks ago and I had to assist a friend with driving. A part of the role was to help drive a Mercedes Benz E220 to convey people to and fro an event. Well, the experience when compared to cruising my "Accord" was miles apart . Ever since, I have not been able to get my mind OFF getting a Mercedes Benz. Now, you get to hear how expensive it is to maintain one, how expensive the parts are....but its been difficult getting actual figures to this. Upon calling a parts dealer, he advised one stays away from the C180's (4 cylinders) and go for the C240's and C320's (both 6 cylinder). He claimed their Engines were affordable in the range of N100K - N120K and that the C180's were problematic. How true are these? So here am I, if rigidity, reliability, ease of maintenance and affordability were priorities which model would you recommend? Which Benz model even comes close to the ease of maintenance and affordability of parts of a Toyota and Honda? Which Benz model can you "dare to dream" with? *Please exclude the high class luxury Benz models, exclude the Jeeps, 4matics and any highly expensive models* N.B: Existing Mercedes Benz threads are mainly on the driving experience of some popular models. You can state the model, year, cost of engine, gearbox, AC compressor and fuel pump and parts that needs to be replaced often.
