PDP: "let Us Not Allow This Party To Go Down." Bode George Urge Party Stake Holders members

Former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has appealed to members of the party not to jump ship and have faith in the party’s petition before the presidential election petition court.

Appearing on ARISE TV on Thursday, Mr Goerge addressing the rank and file of the party, said it was too early to join in on moves by opposition parties to forge a common front towards governance which would imply that the parties have resolved the disputes that arose from the results of the February 25 presidential election.

“The point is this, we are still in court, everybody still thinks he can win, and this one would lose, and until the courts decide who won that election, it will be a futile exercise trying to bring all sides together,” he said.

He emphasised the need to save the party from crashing, calling on all disputing groups within the party to toe the path of the founding fathers and sacrifice, when need be, their personal ambition for the overall good of the party and the interest of the nation.

“In fact, I want to advise those who are jumping ship now to calm down because you can hear the chairman of the APC himself coming to say publicly that the leadership in the Senate of the APC that there is a crack.

When you have a problem in your house, it is better to stay in that house and resolve your problem,” Mr George stated. “This is something we can resolve. It (the party) is not a private enterprise of any individual.

There are doctrines. There are laws. There are ways by which the founding fathers packaged the party. We drifted.”

He explained that “in any human organisation, we can disagree, but we must not be disagreeable,” appealing to all sides to “let us not allow this party to go down. The founding fathers gave so much of their personal ambition to come together.”

The PDP has not recovered from the division that rocked the party since its presidential primary.

Police Asked To Declare Suspended Adamawa REC Yunusa-Ari Wanted As INEC Files Six-Count Charge Against


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has brought a six-count charge against the suspended resident electoral commissioner for Adamawa state, Hudu Yunusa-Ari.

These charges were officially filed in Yola’s high court, the capital city of the state.

In a statement released on Thursday, INEC explained that the decision to file charges followed a thorough review of the police case file, which they believe presents a clear-cut case against Yunusa-Ari.

Yunusa-Ari was initially arrested by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) due to allegations over his conduct during the governorship election in Adamawa.

Following the arrest, he was granted an administrative bail under the condition that he report to the NPF headquarters every weekday.

National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Festus Okoye on Thursday said, “As provided by Section 145(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, an offence committed under the Act shall be triable in a Magistrate Court or a High Court of a State in which the offence is committed, or the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“Furthermore, Section 145(2) of the Act provides that a prosecution under the Act shall be undertaken by legal officers of the Commission, or any legal practitioner appointed by it.

A former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri has submitted that of the three major presidential candidates for 2023, only the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is a national candidate.

According to Omokri who spoke on Wednesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu as well as his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi are regional candidates whose ambitions have ethnic, religious or regional colourations.

ROVINGUPDATES reports he made the declaration while speaking about the 2023 election during an interview with Channels Television.

He argued that Obi and the Labour Party have shown where their allegiance lies by obeying sit-at-home orders given by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the southeast instead of the Nigerian constitution.


He said; “IPOB had a sit-at-home yesterday. Obidents and Peter Obi who normally have things to do in the south-east every day, they obeyed that IPOB sit-at-home and this is not the first time.

“Previously, IPOB’s sit-at-home was on Mondays. Obidents obeyed and Peter Obi himself obeyed it. They never had anything on a day IPOB held their sit-at-home. This shows that they are obeying IPOB rather than our constitution.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is seeking support for the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu to remain in office.

There are speculations that Atiku wants Ayu to remain in office until after the 2023 general election.

This is despite the call by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for Ayu to step down from office and for someone from the South to take over.

A source that spoke with The Nation said Atiku is seeking the support of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Caucus, the National Assembly Caucus, the National Working Committee (NWC) and the 36 PDP state chairmen and that of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for Ayu to remain in office.

There are plans to involve all presidential aspirants in the move to take over power in 2023.

A source close to the Atiku camp said stakeholders called for the need to adopt persuasion instead of a confrontational approach in the reconciliation move.

According to the source, the demand by the Wike camp over the party’s leadership is a legitimate one.

The source said, “Of course, we have all come to terms with the reality of the lopsided configuration in the PDP hierarchy where we have our presidential candidate, national chairman and BoT chairman from the North.

“We also appreciate the position being canvased by Governor Wike and his loyalists, who are mainly from the South, that it will appear awkward to voters in their respective states for PDP to parade only northerners as the party’s topmost leaders, in addition to a presidential candidate from the North during campaigns.

“But the reality on the ground calls for caution on the party of everyone because we believe that there is enough room for further consultation and negotiation that would assuage frayed nerves. It is a work in progress and we can make a success of it if we are committed to the unity of our great party.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has claimed that the Federal Government has not been sincere with the process of resolving what has led to the lingering strike action.

The union which announced that it would be meeting with representatives of government today August 16, said government’s move to placate its members into calling off the strike with salary increment instead of holistically addressing the issues affecting university education in the country is “unfortunate”.

ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, who featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday August 15, added that it is sad that the government says it does not have money to meet their demand.

He said;

“The government is not sincere in its dealing with us. This has been the issue all along.

“What we are doing is the sacrifice we have to save this country and its youths. A collapsed university system is a collapsed country and we are almost there. We will not be tired, we will ensure that our university system works.

“We have not heard any serious communication from the government though they have invited us for renegotiation of the 2009 agreement tomorrow (today).

“The issues have to do with funding, structure, autonomy, and how to raise funds for the university system in Nigeria. But the government has reduced the issue to just salary alone.

“If the government has looked at the issues comprehensively, we will not be talking about funding. This government wants to blackmail us with salaries.

“Every university in the world is an autonomous body. You don’t subject the university to public service. This is why we are where we are today.

“The renegotiation started in 2017 when Mr. Wale Babalakin was appointed to chair the talks. We spent more than two years on that.

“That committee eventually collapsed when Babalakin was removed as the Chancellor of the University of Lagos. Another person was appointed.

The lawmaker representing Kano Central senatorial district, Ibrahim Shekarau is ‘set’ to dump the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to DailyNigerian, Shekarau took the step to join PDP after the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar offered him a ‘mouth-watering position’.

Recall that the former Governor of Kano State recently dumped the All Progressives Congress for NNPP.

Shekarau upon his defection to NNPP secured an automatic senatorial ticket to the party.

A further report had it that the NNPP leaders upon sensing Shekarau’s plan to join PDP set up a 3-man delegation.

The delegation comprised the NNPP governorship candidate in Kano State, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, the senatorial candidate of Kano South, Kawu Sumaila and a candidate for House of Representatives, Kabiru Rurum.

They tried to meet with Shekarau on Friday night (last week), but the former Governor denied them an audience.

A source who is close to the defection plan Shekarau said the lawmaker has reached a deal with the PDP and is expected to announce his defection soon.

An insider disclosed that Shekarau on Sunday summoned an emergency meeting of his political advisory council, known as the Shura Consultative Assembly to inform them of his intentions.

DailyNigerian reported that a 21-member committee will meet on Tuesday (today) at 4 pm to finalise the defection arrangements.

They would also discuss how to manage the backlash that might follow Shekarau’s defection.

A source said Atiku will meet with Shekarau at his Mundubawa residence before his formal announcement.

The source said, “The truth is that Atiku has made some mouth-watering offers such as ministerial and parastatal slots to Mallam. This is in addition to appointing him as the North West campaign coordinator and in charge of campaign finances in the region.”

The Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation says the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is not experienced enough to lead the country in 2023.

In an interview with The Punch on Monday, the spokesman for the campaign organisation, Daniel Bwala, said Tinubu’s experience is only limited to Lagos State.

Bwala said that there is a vast distinction between the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Tinubu, saying that the two candidates are not on the same level.

He stated that Atiku is known for his experience as a former Vice President, while Tinubu is only known for his past and uncertainty.

Bwala, however, asserted that the country doesn’t need someone like the APC presidential flagbearer that will come and learn on the job.

He said: “My assessment of them is very simple. They are both gentlemen and are both Nigerian. They have worked on their energy and ideas over a period of time.

“However, there is a vast or marked distinction between both of them. When you mention one’s name, you will call it experience. When you mention his name, you will refer to the past and uncertainty.

“The problem we are confronted with as a nation now, honestly, is that we cannot afford the luxury of someone that will come to the job to learn. It has to be somebody that has experience. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s experience was limited to Lagos State. Lagos had already been a city of progress even before Asiwaju was born.

“There was nothing magical that he did in Lagos. The state was a colony even before Nigeria became a country, and Lagos would continue in its commerce and industry even if it were a state without a governor.

“You can’t use the yardstick of managing Lagos to say that automatically translates as experience in managing Nigeria. Do you know why? It’s because it is common knowledge in Nigeria that the legislative and judiciary branches of the state are like departments of government, the governors run them without independence and autonomy.

However, in a new video that has surfaced on social media, one of the bishops seems to prove the numerous doubters right after being pictured with the Edo APC Chieftain, Tony Kabaka, singing a version of Emi lokan to declare support for the presidential candidate of the ruling party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The female bishop captured at the unveiling of the APC vice presidential candidate was seen without her robe amongst other party members dancing and singing along with Kabaka in Edo.
