Thanks...I am considering introducing multivitamin in there water same way we use Aquacirine plus...I want to try giving them fish biotic and multivitamin and see if there wd be changes..

good combination.
also make sure your water is clean. that also boost fish appetite.
you can as well do little cleaning of the pond to remove any slime building up there.

this will be difficult cos you need between 4 to 5 months to get majority to be 1kg and above. but in three months like you have in mind can only get you melange.

Abeg oo, my fish don't ve apetite to eat well. Is there any bacteria infection or something else? Do they need any form of treatment?

there are some factors that can cause them to loose appetite apart from infection.
* you need to check the water quality. if the water is dirty they will not eat.
* weather can also affect fish appetite. fish eat less during cold weather.
infection can also cause them not to eat properly. cause if they are sick, then they will reject food. u need to know exactly what category your fish fall into before you can know the right treatment.

considering the cost, how can melange be profitable?

it is profitable only if you do it on a large scale.
mind you I said project #150. not necessary you will spend up to that. if you have fast growing fish, you won't spend that much to get melange. but melange is done on a large scale to get any meaningful profit out of it.

If you are looking forward for melange, then project around #150 for each cat. That means for the 1200 juveniles, project around 40 bags of feeds for them.

what works for A might not really work for B. just make sure you look into the formula well, make necessary adjustment that which can give you your own result.

fish booster are just multivitamin drugs for the fish. it boost their appetite, thereby making them to grow better. but all other conditions must be met. I.e water must always be clean, your fish must also be of high standard, not overcrowded among others. Livestovit is an example of such.

Thanks so much for the information . I really appreciate . At times,my inexperience makes me feel like: do I still have my 5000 fishes complete in the pond? .cos I was there when we counted. Cos I observed that the second pond doesnt consume feed as much as the first of the same age , size and number will do.

My question goes thus. ;
Is there a possibility of haviing massive mortality in a pond without seeing the dead fishes floating on the water surface . ?

Secondly , if I feel the fishes are not eating as much as I want , is there any thing that I can add to the pond that can make them eat more.

@ Afrika011. We don't pray for any massive morality. Any major morality will clearly be noticed on the surface of the pond. The only thing that won't be visible is the cannibalistic nature of the fish, which will tend to reduce the number of your fish. This tend to be more noticee when you introduce the fish too early into the earthen pond i.e fingerlings. But at juvenile stage it is reduced.
For you to improve on their feeding appetite you can add some quantity of multivitamin to their feed. Pls don't add to their water cos it can alter the quality of your water thereby increasing the tendency rate of ineffection in the pond. Livestovit is good, also some fish booster is also good for this purpose..

Please don't mind me if I sound so inexperienced, I'm actually not, when it comes to catfish.

Recently I started raising catfish. I have 2 earthen ponds of a relatively big size where I stocked 5000 juveniles each about 6 weeks ago. But my candid observation is :

A pond tends to appear like it has more fishes than the other when feeding them .
In Pond A, u will see the fishes there running towards feed almost twice faster than the pond B.

Both ponds are subjected to the conditions. Water flows in and out at the same rate.

Can the other pond where the fishes shows less sapped and number when feeding be having issues I don't know of Or is it a common a trend in the business ?

Sir... That's just one of the disadvantages of using an earthen pond. You can not know what is happening or have a firm grip of the whole action inside the pond. But what you can do is to continue feeding them till they are satisfied every time you feed, also let the water inflow and outflow continue. And keep you finger crossed for the best possible outcome. At least if there is no outbreak of diseases and you are sure that the fish is really the actual number you mentioned tgat is in the ponds (cos some farmers do short count) then you are fine. Of cos with Prayers

Boss Robonski has said it all. What I will just advice is for you to start small. Then increase with time. On your pond you can go small as well . 700 to 800 max fingerlings is cool for it. for drugs add multivitamin to tge list eg livestovit or any other good one . On feeding, you feed at least 3 times a day. I don't know if you mean 15 kg per 1000 cats to table size. If so it is very wrong .

it is possible. those ponds that are more exposed to sunlight will have a higher pH. so it depends on sunlight exposure.

Most time it is two weeks interval. but their growth rate can also determine that. it could be less if their rate is high or more that two weeks if their growth rate is low. but two weeks is the normal interval period to change.

Can't find it. Only Coppens, Durante and vita that is gotten. Please let me know the stages/measurement of
feeding them I just started today with 0.5mm.(Coppens). Sir your good advice will be highly appreciated.

Sir u cannot start with 0.5 mm for fingerlings. Or is it fries you purchaseded? Even if you want to boost your fish with higher crude protein feed go for 1mm. 0.5 mm is way too tiny. And in earthen pond pond for that matter, that you can't see the activities of the cats under.

Budget #200 for each juvenile. it takes between #250 to #300 for fingerlings to table size. Since you are talking of juveniles you will need to keep #200 for each. but if you have very good seed you may end up spending less to get 1kg

@ Fzero. we all hope for success all through, but we can only achieve it if we are prepare to jump the huddles we meet on the way. I even know of two farms, with modern hatching equipments that still face the same problem of fries motility. I was dumbfounded when I saw their equipments and still managing to survive. All the same God is Good.

@ Aquadude15. wow what a great story there. thanks for sharing. The thing is that there is no success without a story to tell. we all have our own story. Even me battle with fries motility for months last year, to the point that I almost leave the business. I had even at one time dusted my certificate and ready to go and search for work before things turns around for good again.
To make matter worst my wife was frustrated about the whole situation and I lost her support. I tell you it was not easy. I had to support myself with other means, at least to feed my family. for the first time in my life I was in serious debt. what an ugly time it was. But one thing I get from hatching is that the process keep changing. If I have a success with one batch, the process may not work for another batch. So I keep changing method. I know few people that have called it quit with hatching. But one thing is sure Winners Never Quit and Quitters never win.

2000 seed is way too much for the size you have. What you have can only take 1000. For you to have 2000 seed to table size then you need to construct pond twice the capacity you mentioned. For them to grow well you need to stock wisely.

you don't need any formalin. It is a new pond. All you need do is to fill up that pond with water and put chicken poo (tie in a sack) drop it in the pond for two weeks. This will neutralize all the cement chemicals. After remove the sack, drain the water, wash thoroughly and put new fresh water and stock your fingerlings.

Yes. True! The growth rate of fish in earthen pond can't be compare to that of concrete. But In all, 'management' is the key word. You cannot overstock an earthen pond and still expect the same result, also if you manage your concrete pond well you are going to have a bumper harvest. Plus feeding right. Like I do tell people, fish business is garbage in garbage out. It is your input that will determine your output. Fish don't want to hear I'm broke today but next week i will continue feeding you. That's why farmer need to check their pocket and know the capacity of fish they can take.
