What is your basis of saying that someone who wants to start big can start because SE and SS consume alot of cat fish, have you ever sold catfish in the SE market? Or do you know about cat fish marketing in the SE?

@Xiaoli , why not get someone experienced enough as a manager, instead of a consultant. At least the manager can be on ground Everytime. You can even call him to get the state your farm is at anytime. And in case of emergency he can act fast , instead of waiting for any consultant to tell them what to do... In catfish business, fast thinking and acting fast can save millions of naira.
You need to be very wise in your investment cos it will run into millions and that's not an investment to joke with.
From fingerlings / juveniles you intend to get. To the water you use on them , the space, the drugs, sorting, to the marketing , to the selling space (where buyers should stay at) to the scale to use .. and more, nothing should be left untouched.
That's my opinion anyway.

It actually depends on how many you stock. They may be picking it in bit which may not make meaning to you. If the weather is extremely cold, the fish will withdraw from high consumption rate to bit by bit. The problem arise if they are not eating at all.
Just make sure their water is clean always and feed them less, considering the weather in Jos...
If need be give the multivitamin mixed with their feed

Afternoon all. ive been following this page diligently for two weeks now, making notes and writing contacts and everything i can learn. Am a teacher by profession but an accountant by training. One of my passions has always been agric. Having read all the gurus in the house, ill like to try fish farming in 200litre drums as an experiment with my students in school, with the hope of harvesting by December or February during our cultural day. I and my students have decided today to use drums or construct a tarpaulin pond. We tried doing further research on agricnetwork site but the didn't open up. Pls we need help on how to get good shooters for our school farm. We will also want to go on excursion to any reputable fish farm. I want to really impact practical knowledge and know how on my students. gurus in the house like robonski abeg make una help.

You can mention your location
At least if three is any good farm around there, people can refer you to the place.
Another thing 200 litre for fish is not going to work. The least you need 1000 litres that can accommodate 100 fish at most.
Or you opt for the tarpaulin that you mentioned. You can build it to accommate the number if fish you want.

If you have access to it , why not make use of it.
But make sure you disinfect it well before feeding your fish with it.
Its an added protein for the fish..

But the situation need to be addressed fast.
It could mean they are not having enough oxygen or the pond is infected.
Either way you need to arrest the situation asap.
Change their water or in case of earthen pond remove some water to add fresh water, also disinfect mildly to be sure... All will be fine... Remember prevention is better than cure.
