Ghaliz: First you're probably going to need all that and then some.
Alliance Francaise introduces you to French language, some vocabulary exercises and tries to gently ease you into getting comfortable with the language. But the 600 hours or so of classes from A1 - B2 is painfully insufficient.
In addition Alliance does not train you to write the TEF or TCF, they introduce and teach you the French language, the TCF is a different beast entirely.
What you need to do if you have not started is have a month of Duolingo, enrol at Alliance Française, you will get the A1 Atelier workbook and textbook immediately, start devouring it , pay for Prep my future another Alliance Francaise test taker initiative, start preparing for your exam from Day 1.
By the time you get to B1.1 (B1 is usually split into 3 an average of 200k each per month) before your B1.2 your preparation should be at an advanced stage you can make the determination if you require a private tutor or not.
I'm not going to lie the French was hard AF! Learning a new language is tough, you are used to thinking in English and it shares little with French, your brain would push back.
I used Réussir TCF, Prep my future, I slept and woke up to RFI, I spent a month in Senegal because they speak the best French in West Africa anyway. Maybe someone more brilliant than I would require less help.
I know when I registered at alliance 14 months ago across morning, afternoon, evening class we were like 50. A year later only 3 of us wrote the exam some are still preparing , plenty gave up. This is so detailed. Thank you very much. |

Ghaliz: When I started Alliance Francaise A1.1 in late 2024 I paid 66k for the intensive class with I think an extra 40k or something for Atelier workbook and textbook for A1 by the time I started A1.2 it went up to 181k sans workbook.
I wrote my TCF last month, I give glory to God.
A quick unsolicited advice for aspiring TEF/TCF candidates, Duolingo alone no matter what level you get to simply won't cut it.
I had to quit my job so I could attend a 3hr class Mon-Fri @ alliance yet even that isn't a guarantee of nothing. You must give yourself over totally to the language.
In addition to my daily classes, I listen to RFI on my way to and from classes, six months to my exam I got a private tutor who taught at Alliance for 10hrs per week, they don't come cheap.
If you are not ready to lose yourself to it totally it won't work. By my own estimation less than 10% of alliance students pass the TCF/TEF exam, an even smaller percentage pass on the first attempt. Most just get tired, regress and quietly drop out. Hm. So do you recommend a private tutor or Alliance? |

azarenka: Wow...you are very correct, is this is a new price for 2026 or it has been like this? because i just paid for online intensive class amd it was about 50k+. The class ended in December though. Checked the programme for intensive and it confirms 240k+..waow... C'est grave. How is the online intensive? Would you recommend it? Or is the physical class better? |
Travel › Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by Ayrastarr(f): 6:59am On Jan 16 |
azarenka: Online Semi-intensive. But it is better you do the physical intensive if you are planning to write TEF/TCF. Okay, thank you |

azarenka: There has never been a time AF would charge classes for 180k. This is false. that price of 40k to 52 is correct. Then an annual fee of 5k. Please which AF branch charged you 180k for a class? Lagos. Which one is charging you 52,k |
Travel › Re: All TEF Candidates For Canada Immigration, Let's Meet Here! by Ayrastarr(f): 1:28pm On Jan 14 |
Ckizy: Between 52 to 40k per month, depends on which programme you choose, intensive, semi intensive or online intensive. 52 to 40k ke. Since when. Isn't it like 180k |

luckygirl02: The study route is not necessarily harder than learning french but it does not guarantee permanent residency. So many students/ex students in Canada with no hope of getting ITA. Imagine spending all that thousands of CAD and then having to leave the country. So let everyone weight their options very well. Hi luckyhlgirl02, does taking a Caregiving course and getting a job as a caregiver here in Nigeria qualify for the category-based draw? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Ayrastarr(f): 9:28am On Jan 02 |
Emmaesty: Bonne année 2026 🙂
You can try switching careers to one of the occupations eligible for the category-based draws or explore PNP.
Entry to Canada is becoming more difficult with each passing day, so I would advise you to act fast. If the above options don't work for you, you can explore the study route, but that is much harder than learning French.
Je vous souhaite le meilleur. Please, what careers? Isn't Support workers under TEER 4 |

Jacknn: Hello house,
Please I need your guidance and any helpful advice you can offer based on this profile below. currently exploring possible immigration options to Canada and would appreciate insight from anyone who has been in a similar position or understands the pathway well.
Profile Summary: Occupation: Certified Nursing Assistant (NOC 33102) IELTS Score: Listening – 7.0 Reading – 5.5 Writing – 7.0 Speaking – 6.0 Overall Band – 6.5 Education: B.Sc in Business Administration (WES evaluation in progress) Work Experience: 4+ years experience as a care aide/nurse assistant Age: 28 years old Marital Status: single Children: 3 kids My Key Questions: Can I open an Express Entry profile with the IELTS score above? I know Express Entry requires CLB 7 minimum for FSW. I does that disqualify me outright, or can I still submit and remain in the pool? Since Express Entry might not be feasible for now, I am going the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) route actively applying for nurse aide jobs on: Canada Job Bank SaskJobs (Saskatchewan) Work in Manitoba Atlantic province boards (NB, NS, PEI) However, for some provinces like Manitoba and Saskatchewan, I’m seeing I need to open an EOI (Expression of Interest) profile.
Should I open an EOI profile now even though I don’t have a job offer yet, or is it only after receiving a job offer that I should do that? I'm confused about this part and don’t want to make any mistakes. Finally, what’s your best advice at this stage? I’m working hard every day to submit applications, follow up, and track job offers. I just need to know if I’m doing it right and how to position myself better or if I should consider other pathways. Any help, direction, or correction from those more experienced would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance. Hii.. Please, how did you transition from Bsc. Business administration to Nursing assistant? Did you take any courses in Nigeria? I hold a degree in business administration and am looking to switch. |

TallNigerian: 1. Age is on your side, so be the principal applicant. Coupled with the fact that you will soon have a Bachelor degree. 2. There are quite a couple of short courses that you can take within 2-3 months to boost your CRS. Ontarioo should be able to advise you more on that. 3. Excellent idea. Get the HCA certificate and do your internship. If you can, try to lobby for a paid employment at the clinic where you did your internship or even request for a lower salary just to convince them. At the end, just make sure you have an offer letter and you are paid for a minimum of six months working full time. That makes you eligible for the healthcare category. I am confident that the healthcare category and French category aren't going out of vogue anytime soon. Thank you so much. |

Ontarioo: 1. You can take either of ACCA foundation level (diploma in accounting and business RQF Level 4) or CIMA certificate in business (ba1-ba4). But you'd need to be done with your Bachelors degree to qualify. Though there's no minimum entry qualifications for the ACCA foundation level, but you will only get equivalent evaluation required by IRCC from WES with the RQF Level 4. If you can't wait to be done with school, you can proceed to start from RQF Level 2 to 4. Send me a direct email if you don't understand this. Thank you. |
