Reference: I've watched the affairs of Nigeria for quite a while and it is clear to me that we are yet to attain nationhood. When have you ever seen a leader, any leader galvanise Nigerians as a people, like a call to arms, nationalistic rhetoric that will weld the people towards a common vision, a common objective. Since independence, none.

Every leader from the first day in office assumes a defensive, bunker like posture because even in the hey days of military totalitarianism your deputy would have his gun trained on the back of his head.

We simply donot know how to build our society. We simply donot know that our fortunes lie in collective responsibility and that leaders originate from followers so there is always a disconnect. Thus they cannot reach us as tools, building blocks of the nation. It is always us versus them. Every government, every regime, every office holder, even those we saw on the streets yesterday.

Its time we forge consensus about how we wish to build this country setting aside for once our well engrained sentimental attachments that does not permit common sense from one community to the other thoughtless of from Bornu to Badagry.
