You are an ignoramus? So it didn't occur to you that OBJ bread export is a result of the renewed push by the FG ministry of Agric under GEJ? Do you know how much cassava production has been boosted in the last 2 years? Are you not aware of the deals FG have struck with some bakers like UAC? People like OBJ have simply been smart to tap into it.

I don't blame you. You obviously have been paying attention to ACN propaganda on NL that keep saying nothing is happening and GEJ is doing nothing. You better open your eyes and be wise.

Indian-Indonesian Billionaire S. P. Lohia's Turnaround Success In Nigeria
Alvi Tirtadji, 06.20.12, 06:00 PM EDT

Forbes Asia Magazine dated July 16, 2012
Lohia's latest triumph is reviving a Nigeria petrochemical plant.

When two Indian engineers working for Eleme Petrochemicals in Nigeria were kidnapped in 2007, the owner of the plant, Indonesian billionaire Sri Prakash Lohia, immediately flew in to be personally involved in the negotiations to free them--and they were let go a few days later. Five years on Lohia not surprisingly notes that security is one of the highest priorities at the plant, including dozens of security cameras and an electrical fence around the property that went up after the incident.

Fix-up has been the way at Eleme, once considered a basket case of state-run inefficiency. The plant is now the second-largest polyolefin producer in Africa by volume, behind South Africa’s Sasol, and a centerpiece of oil-rich Nigeria’s efforts to become the petrochemicals hub for Africa. “Our growth there [Africa] is extremely important,” says Lohia, 60, who chairs Singapore-domiciled Indorama Corp., a producer of petrochemicals such as polyolefins (resins used to make such items as Croc shoes, tennis strings and auto parts).

Lohia moved into Nigeria following an approach by then president Olusegun Obasanjo at the 2005 Africa-Asia Summit. He bought the plant from the government at auction for $225 million in 2006. The bid secured a 75% stake, which was later cut to 65%, with the remainder owned by various Nigerian parties, including the government.

The plant was in sad shape when acquired, operating at a fraction of its capacity. There were doubts it could be turned around. Undeterred, Lohia shut it down for inspection, repair and maintenance, starting in May 2006. By September it was back up. Today it operates at capacity and produces 350,000 tonnes of polyolefin a year, sold mostly in Nigeria but also exported.

“It is safe to say that we are one of the best success stories of privatization in Nigeria,” boasts Lohia, at his offices in Jakarta. He notes that the plant’s revival is often cited as a case study for privatization by institutions such as the World Bank’s International Finance Corp.

He points out that Nigeria’s downstream plastic manufacturers no longer need to import resins, which helps the country’s trade balance. Lohia estimates Eleme has saved the country $1 billion in imports since he took over (as well as becoming a major corporate taxpayer). The plant’s revival has also generated 11,000 jobs directly in the plant or indirectly in the surrounding communities, according to Indorama estimates. Lohia visits the plant every three months.

It’s one more stop on a life’s road that took his family from India in 1974. Led by his father, M.L. Lohia, they set up a small factory in Purwakarta, Indonesia, producing low-cost yarns for textiles. (S.P.’s brother Aloke, also a billionaire, is vice chair of Indorama’s Thailand arm.)

The Nigerian operation has become one of the major businesses in what is now $7-billion-in-revenue-a-year Indorama Group, which has 39 operations in 19 countries. Lohia says he plans to increase his investment in Eleme, with $2 billion slated to add fertilizer and methanol plants by 2016.

He might not be a saint, but he is definitely the most real and best head of state in the history of Nigeria.
