You cannot make foreign payments with your naira debit/credit card. You cannot shop online and pay in £/$ or any other foreign currency, if you travel abroad, your card will not work. The policy should take effect on the 1st of January 2016 but I think some banks are already implementing it. The aim of implementing it is to reduce or prevent the importation of forex because it weakens the naira.

***The policy is frustrating and inconvenient to banks and people who are involved in foreign transactions or businesses but there are exceptions like payment of school fees, professional exams e.t.c. The customer will request for a Form A from his/her bank and the payment will be allowed.

***CBN has been implementing different policies such as reducing ATM withdrawals, prohibiting banks from accepting dollar deposit, placing ban on some imported products. It is all in a bid to strengthen the naira against the dollar, to halt our foreign exchange reserve from depleting further and also to prevent the possible devaluation of naira.

****I don't know how they access their local accounts but an alternative should be provided by next year when all banks starts implementing it.

The problem we are facing now is because of oil and mismanagement. The global price keeps reducing, in fact nobody wants to buy our oil again and 90% of our revenue is based on oil. The current administration keeps talking about diversifying but I don't know the steps they are taking towards achieving that because we import almost everything.
All these monetary policies by CBN is just in the short run, Until something substantial is done, we will eventually have to devalue the naira, rebase(like your country) or we go into recession..

Long story grin grin Epistle according to Azonto...
oh I see... Thank you
I can feel you don't appreciate/agree to this policy.

we the outsiders will be on watch so better pray it goes very well with you on this your A1 policy oooo smiley I will support you with fasting n prayer

There is this new policy here concerning debit cards, some people have been protesting at CBN headquarters. One naira to a dollar is now 270 highest in 40 years, pounds is going haywire... so they could be suffering....

Things might come down after the holidays..
hmmmm, I bet only Nigerians understand this.

more questions---

do majority of the people like the policy?

how is the policy helpful in 9ja's economy?

How do Nigerians access their local accounts from other countries?

naturalmi:
For me the budget isn't fair at all! Any budget that doesn't allocate 18% or more to education is a sham. Just like the PDP, APC allocated just a megre 6% of budget to education. That's so little. Ordinary Ghana allocates 19% to education.
so what do you expect from ordinary APC of ordinary Nigeriahuh

Don't know how true this story is but this has gone viral since it was shared online by a Facebook user. According to the poster, this woman based in London had been sending money home (Ghana) to her relatives to build house for her ..only for her to return home and discover that no piece of land was bought for her talk more of building a house in her name. She immediately turned mad after the incident paraded herself naked on the streets of Ghana -as bystanders videoed the incident. This reportedly happened on Sunday, December 20, 2015....Here are screenshots gotten from the video posted online.

TV/MoviesSteven Spielberg Names His List Of Bad Actors In Africa by AzontoGhost(op): 12:06am On Dec 16, 2015
Multiple award winning filmmaker, Steven Spielberg has taken an
interesting look at African cinema, known as Nollywood, which is
believed to be the world’s second largest ‘film’ producer. According to the 3-time Academy Award winner, Nollywood is characterised by weak storylines and actors who are only good for posters.

Spielberg who recently wrapped shooting for ‘Escape From Boko
Haram’ described filming in parts of Nigeria as a challenge, especially in finding the right supporting cast for the terrorism drama, set for release on February 31, 2016.

In an Interview with the Nollywood Reporter, Spielberg said he only familiarised himself with Nollywood during the 2-month shoot in Nigeria.

“My casting director spoke highly of some Nollywood stars and I was forced to watch a few of their movies to familiarise myself with them before we even did our casting for ‘Escape From Boko Haram’. I then noticed that most of the movies are badly written and directed, often leaving me confused. I liked the way
they tell their stories but even my grandchildren tell better stories”
“When finally it was time for casting, the actors came for auditions like they had the roles already – such utter arrogance. Genevieve Nnaji came 3 hours late, yet she was the one that our casting director felt should play wife of President Obasanjo. ” “…just one second with Frank Artus and I knew he wasn’t good for any role in the movie or any thinkable movie for that matter. We went through several of Nigeria’s leading actors and frankly none of them was good enough. We ended up using many unknown faces for the supporting roles. The only popular Nigerian in the movie would be Segun Arinze, because of the striking resemblance he has with President Obasanjo.”

‘Escape From Boko Haram’, tells the chilling story of corruption and power struggle behind the infamous terror group.
It stars Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Idris Elba.
The legendary filmmaker turned out to support his great friend George Lucas as the seventh Star Wars movie was finally unveiled to the world at a grandiose premiere in LA. The famed filmmaker, 68, was upstaged in the fashion stakes by longtime wife Kate Capshaw who wore an eclectic outfit that paired leather dungarees with a bolero jacket and a fedora hat.
