Do you mean that it is hard to get visit Visa or they actually don't give it to Nigerians?

My brother that thing you see in the website was written long long ago. Just apply or send them a mail, they will give you the real updated news. NO TOURIST VISA FOR NIGERIANS.

My brother, its almost impossible oh except through an agent. To confirm for yourself chat any of those online Vietnam visa sites, they will tell you the truth.

I sent mails to many of them and they told me they don't do tourist visa for Nigerian. When I told them I want to do the 4 weeks TEFL course, they said I should get letter from the school with which they can do only 1 month visa for me of which I MUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY AFTER THE 1 MONTH.

When we lament that our brothers into scam and fraud abroad are spoiling the way for those who are genuine, this is what we mean.

@ WhyNa

I have this desire to spend the duration of waiting for NYSC call up in another country. Vietnam to be precise because it's said to be a cheap destination compared to UK/US. I am 22 year old and plan to go there alone.

I budget about 1m (3k usd) for a period of 6 months to a year.

How possible is this, because their visa is 3 months max for tourist visa. If I can renew my visa while I am still in their country would 3k usd be enough for 6months stay?

I would like to have a break down on rent, transportation and feeding for people on budget. Like, the cheats I could use to live on that budget for that period of time. Like hostels or church where I can stay... uno things like that.

My main aim is just to clear my head and focus on self building and to cure my depression. I will be spending most of my time in a cafe gaining skills during the week then use the weekend for tourism.

NB: I am using a new account for privacy concerns.

Bro, 3k dollars will be very enough for that 6 months but my big fear is the posibility of getting a tourist visa as a Nigerian, bro i doubt if they still give tourist visa to Nigerians. The best option will be going through an agent of which you will need to be careful in looking for a reliable one. @WhyNa has written about this before so play your card well.

I Am not in Vietnam but from my research expect something like This, so you will now need to look for where and how to cut your expenses.

If you get accomodation of like $200×6=1,200
Feeding n utility per month $100x6=600
Flight $900
Total..........$2,700
Visa............xxxxx

If you can get an apartment of 150 or even 100 dollar, good.

@WhyNa should have more detailed info.

My advice.
Leave going to Vietnam for now, complete your NYSC and save more then just migrate fully to Vietnam or go to Vietnam for the 6months, get a teaching job and just stay there.

Trust me, you don't need to spend 1m to go and cool your brain then come back to do NYSC. That might not be the best decision.

If you want to cool off, trust me you can achieve that in Nigeria, relocate to another state that is cool.

Finally, I believe you might have more reasons for wanting to cool off there, if they are legit, by all means ride on. Maybe you should send @WhyNa a mail and give her more details, she might create time and guild you better.
Good luck bro.

Aside teaching, how is their ICT sector? Are there a ton of programming jobs.

From my research I think there are but I discovered they favour Vietnamese citizens and graduates of a Vietnamese university more.

Also, the pay is low oh compared to teaching. For undergraduate internship position, you get about 200 to 400$, full time should be somewhere close for entry level oh. THese are information from FTP university.

I feel like crying right now.

The English teaching job market in vietnam Vietnam is massive right now.

Just join any of the Facebook groups and you will see over 5 to 10 job vacancies posted daily.

I admire @WhyNa who is there right now and which am there too.

My prediction is that this will continue like that till around December because of no international movement. The teachers presenting in vietnam can't meet up with the job openings openings available.

I learnt they will be opening up their borders by July ending but they might only those from countries with minimal or zero new cases.

Make we dey pray dey hope oh.

Yes the market favours the NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS but sincerely there is also a market for us blacks.

If we believe we can make it.

@WhyNa, how far, how are you doing? Any update for the boys?

You are right @ Whyna. I have been able to send tens of CVs and received a few responses. At the moment a university I sent my documents to had accepted me but are asking for a short introductory video on my education and work experience.

I am hoping to do one tomorrow after pushing off some pressing assignments today.

At Whyna you have not been able to reply my email. But I am still grateful and content with what you are doing here. Thanks

What category ma?

I saw one YouTube video like that where a lady was explaining how she could relocate with her child but unfortunately I didn't watch it because I don't have a child or personal family yet.

My advice:

Let one member of the family travel first, preferably the man, get a teaching job, get relaxed and then know how things work. Your wife can also apply for same later and tell the agent that she has kids to know what they will say and how they can help.

Shalom.

In everything, always know this, you have the advantage. You speak English, they don't or they are not as good as you. You're like a guru to them. Have that at the back of your mind and it will build your confidence level.

Believe me, it's not that hard. I don't want to start an e-war just incase some category of people are reading this but I've see people with bad grammar and accent get jobs here. Doesn't mean Vietnam is for all and any. It might be luck or a case of the one eyed man

Finding a job luckily is easy. There are tons of advert so all you need do is apply online.

Make sure you have a good CV,, a degree and a TEFL or TESOL or CELTA certificate

Do an introduction video. You can even start now. It shouldn't be longer than 1 minute or a minute 30 seconds. They just want to hear your accent really so just introduce yourself and say a few things about you

Be ready to send out tons of CV. Of course it's free. You just need to create time and send out as many as possible

When you do get a job even if it's a cover class, try to get the TA to record you will you teach. That's another thing they sometimes ask for. Videos of you teaching

Have a strong mind. Don't be deterred by either the adverts or the response saying they.nee'd only NES. There are lots of fishes in the sea.

Learnt to prepare a lesson note. Their method is a bit different but wayyy easier.

Interviews here is not like in Nigeria where you answer jamb questions. Nope. Straight to the point. Where are you from? When did you come in? Where have you taught? What level are you more comfortable teaching? Salary expectation. Finish

Thanks so much for the response, this will help a great deal.

There are some things you will discover from your research and it will be clear to you that for Vietnam, you just need to work with an agent.

Most in class TEFL COURSE training centers don't even give Nigerians a LETTER to help you get a visa, even if they give you, the official visa agency most of them work with won't give you more than 1 month visa and they told me I MUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY AFTER THE 1 MONTH which is the right thing.

From the TEFL COURSE school end, Apollo English told me that they don't recruit some nationalities like Nigerians because processing their work permit is very difficult. But they assured me that there is big market for blacks, this is for those who are scared they might not be able to get a job there.

Sincerely I think what @whyna advice is the best option get an agent to get 1 year Visa, 2 year work permit, to avoid be stranded or giving up. The agents will sort out the Nigerian factor limitations above.

Seriously Nigerians who travelled out many years ago has spoilt out name making things difficult for us now.

Finally, for those planning to truly make this move to Vietnam, please let's be sharing our experience .

Good question. Glad you took time to read and understand again.

On how I got so good, I had some experience teaching in Nigeria but that was a long time ago. It gave me some ideas but like I said, it's a different ball game here. Remember, you're teaching people who understand little or don't understand what you're talking about. You have to get creative.

Luckily, there are lots of flashcards, images and even videos you can use in class to teach.

Also, the more you teach at different places here and at different levels, you gain more experience and know what works and what doesn't for different age groups. I passed through that and I'm still learning. You just gotta be sharp and fast at grasping and learning news ways of teaching.

In the long run, it becomes easy cos English is what you speak everyday but now, you're getting paid for it.

Yes the demo classes can "annoying" cos sometimes, no matter how good you are, the first 5-10 minutes standing Infront of new faces knowing you're being accessed can be annoying but in the end, it gets easier. The jobs I currently have, funny enough, I didn't do demo for any of them

On accepting the $8 dollars an hour job, it may not be entirely bad especially if it's fix d like $800 a month. You gain experience and then still have some savings left. Most importantly, you gain experience if you have none

@Whyna thank you so much for your response.

Please I want to ask for a little favour. Very certainly some of here will be joining you in Vietnam before the end of this year or at most before the end of the 2nd quota of next year.

Please can you create time from your busy schedule to give us a detailed tutorial on how to find a job, prepare for interview, what to expect from the interviewer and how to scale through and get the job using your experience and that of any black African you know as a case stuff.

I know this is much but please create time and do it for us. Most of the videos on YouTube is for whites and native speakers. I know it's a totally different ball game for Africans and Nigerians for that matter.

Thanks so much and please am sorry for asking for too much.

@Whyna how are you, hope you are doing great?

I just finished going through this thread again for a 3rd time and this time they were even more revealing.

You obviously have obi dike.

Nne please let me ask, how did you get so good at teaching that you could get gigs this fast. This is because that has been my fear, it's been long I left school although I was a mathematics teacher 2017/2018 but never neared English, infact I dey fear am. My even considering it now is because of the pay.

Apart from the TEFL, how did you brush yourself up to be a good English teacher? How did you win at interviews and demo class interviews?

Financially, taking an online TEFL COURSE and getting a 1 year visa, 2 year work permit is obviously the best but if one is not really Good, he might flop at interviews and just end up setting for the $8 per hour jobs.

Going for TEFL or CELTA in class training in vietnam will prepare you and give you a good foundation for teaching english but it's Damn too expensive and you are most likely to come in through 3 month visa, if after the 3 month nothing yet in terms of job, you will pay heavily to extend your visa. If you want to do the in classTEFL COURSE and still go with 1 year visa, 2 year work permit you will have to have over 3m naira oh and that is obviously not in any way available.

@Whyna please help us out, is there any way we can be more outstanding outside just having the TEFL certificate. The TEFL certificate can even be gotten for you by your agent. This has really bothered me, I no wan go there disgrace my family name by doing $8 per hour job. Lol

Please @all, beyond fun let's take this Vietnam seriously, if Nigeria never tire you guys e don tire me. @Whyna has wet our mouth very well. Please let's keep researching and saving money. Personally I have given myself this year and at most next year to be in vietnam by God's grace. From what @Whyna told us and from my personal research, 2m is The target amount we need to be there and have some change to at least last for month plus before we get a job.

Let's focus our questions to her on our findings that is confusing. Let's not repeat questions she has answered already and let's not ask her unnecessary questions. Remember she has not stayed up to a year there so she needs time to hustle hard, have some good savings and be more relaxed.

Let's know too that we will still need her assistance when we get there, whether we go through Agent or a TEFL school.

Above all, las las we go dey ok. Udo diri unu.
