OMG! What Nigerians are posting here is so eye opening. Any doctor that decides to practice in Nigeria needs his head examined. Doctors need to go to places where they'll be well paid and their services appreciated.

1. The DE students admitted last year were not up to 40.. They are not more than 20, I think.
2. Many of them are A Level peeps.. Many! Although, some are BSC Holders sha. But many of them are A Level peeps
3. The thing is.. Apart from those who are coming from 100lvl, 20 will join d class from anatomy n physiology, some students may come on transfer from other schools, international students may also come(and they can be up to 20) ... Repeaters will also join d class(those that are meant to be in 300lvl).. and they can also be up to 20.. So it's not rili feasible to admit 'more than 40' through DE

Lol... u don't know what you're saying and it seems you don't even know what's happening in your class, I know several people who had to defer because the program was already going on when they were admitted. There are up to 40 DE students admitted and I just quoted what the provost said sometimes ago.

It's not even farfetched, I personally know up to 20 DE students (mostly graduates) in ur class and I don't know up to half of d ppz I d class... international students r also DE students btw.
I won't want to go into the politics of why degree students are preferred (in all med schs). When you get to clinicals, you'll understand.

Some schs prefer Cambridge A-level folks (usually 15 pointers) anyway.

#Accept my warm greetings doctor smiley

Thanks bro. You're one really cool dude. Yh, excluding the anatomy and Physiology students who are 20 in number.

How you doing? And I no be doctor o, at least not yet...

Very few, 20 at most. Actually, it varies; some departments won't even admit up to 15. For instance now, MBBS qouta for DE can't be up to 15. Why Few outstanding students from Anatomy and Physiology (BoiGrammz included) will cross to MBSS.

By the way, what's your prospective department?

True talk but they like taking loads of people for DE into MBBS especially when many people drop from 100 level. Unilorin has a quota of 150 so they'll make up the number to like 170. Last year they admitted more than 40 DE students and most of them have a degree already (not ijmb, A levels nd all)

[/size]

• How much did he make in 2 years of his service as an Executive on Societe Generale (Nig.) Limited before 2003?
• How much did he make in 3 years of his public service before 2003?
• How much is he supposed to make (legitimately) altogether before 2003?
• Are there other legitimate sources of income (before 2003) he declared as required by the law?
• Does it mean other people with similar number of years in public or private service have 100s of Billions already in 5 years?

Yes, Saraki is a thief but a medical officer or a senior casualty officer is not an intern not to talk of a medical student. Do your researches well.
He might have also inherited some of his wealth.

I agree with you babalawoo Or how else can we describe the president of ACADEMIC Staff Union of UNIVERSITIES not knowing that a medical fellowship (which is a FULL-TIME postgraduate studies of at least 6 year and even up to 12 years in some subspecialties) is greater and higher than a PhD?

This is really appalling. So you expect a professor of Medicine to go and do Masters and PhD in a basic science or medical science course like anatomy before he can a vice chancellor?

That's why we are backward in this part of the world. We find one archaic way or the other to relegate the best brains.

Lol. Funny but true. We need to put parochial sentiments and jealousy away if the black African ever wants to be on top.

Politics / Doctors Fault ASUU’s Stance On Phd Possession For Appointment Of Vcs by Babalawoo: 12:15pm On Sep 22, 2015
Doctors under the umbrella of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) have faulted a media statement credited to the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Nasir Faggae, calling for discrimination against those without PhD degree from being appointed as Vice Chancellors (VCs).

NMA in a statement, yesterday, signed its President, Dr. Kayode Obembe, said Medical Fellowships holders are more eligible to be appointed than those with PhD degree.

The statements credited to Faggae read in parts: “The national president of ASUU threw his weight behind the ongoing struggle… urging the local congress of the union to insist that only those with PhD degree becoming the Vice Chancellor.”

Obembe said the NMA considers this unwholesome affront by the President of ASUU as unfortunate, as the context borders on holders of post-graduate Medical Fellowships. “While not joining issue with anyone as every citizen is entitled to an opinion, NMA wishes to condemn in strong terms, the open inciting nature and unveiled hatred leveled against the eminently qualified Nigerians whose eligibility to equally aspire to lead the Universities, has been proved beyond all reasonable doubt,” he said.

The NMA President said while advising ASUU to abide by the regulations and conventions in the education industry, the Association refers the entire public to the recommendation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) – the statutory regulatory body of University education in the country- that the fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) and its equivalent is a suitable alternative to PhDs in relation to appointment of Vice Chancellors.

Obembe said for the purpose of education and enlightenment to those who do not know, it is worth stating the following: the medical postgraduate fellowships far outweigh any PhD, both in content and context; entrance requirement into the university for the same people being maligned against demands comparatively higher Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut off scores/points; the Calendar year of study for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is 11 months, others eight months; unlike the PhD, entrance into the fellowship programme is via a very competitive international common entrance selection process; whereas the contents of the medical postgraduate fellowship studies and training programmes require at least six years to complete, those of PhD need only three years on whole- a 100 per cent difference; and the credit units for fellowship have been calculated by authorities in education metrics and curriculum studies and have been adjudged to be at least thrice that of PhD.

The NMA President said the Association is most appalled that at such a time as now when every hand should be on the deck to drive the nation’s university systems from the present doldrums to international standards, Faggae chose to play over the nation’s intelligence by inciting and attempting to use the platform of divide and rule tactics to achieve anticipated cheap popularity.

Obembe said while describing these feeble antics mischievous but laughable, NMA wonders why this clamour to discriminate against medical professors is resurfacing at a time as now, despite the efforts the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) made at educating the leaders of ASUU following the crises the same issue generated at the University of Jos few years ago.

Faggae further incited the congress of the ASUU to insist that only those with PhD degree become the Vice Chancellor, as according to him ‘’you cannot preside over the award of a PhD degree that you do not possess yourself.’’

Obembe further explained: “This nude demonstration of ignorance is most unfortunate. Perhaps at this juncture, Faggae needs to be told and perhaps appreciate that the Vice Chancellors with Medical background (holders of medical postgraduate fellowships) have comparatively demonstrated impeccable and track record efficiency, capability and meritorious achievements in University governance in the country. University of Ibadan (which awards the highest number of PhDs in the country), ObafemiAwolowo University, Ile-Ife, etc, are a few handy references.

I can bet it with my last kibosh that nothing will eventually happen to Bukola Saraki at the end of the day, he will still continue to be the Senate president and Tinubu, Akande , lai Muhammed et al will still continue to find ways to tame him... Till 2019

What people don't really know about Bukola Saraki Include

1.He is the first child of the former Senate majority leader Dr Olusola Saraki. He has went through his father's political tutelage and he understand the intricacies of Nigeria politics

2.He was the last 'successful' chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum he knows how to play Nigeria politics well! Well!! base on his experience

3.Though a medical doctor by training, he comes from a state where virtually every elite in that state is a lawyer... Kwara state has the highest concentration of legal practitioners in Nigeria (Wikipedia is your friend) So they know how to rap with the laws. That is why CCB will just shout and shout the man will not surface.. Even the emir of the state is a former justice of Nigeria

4.There are thousands upon thousands of Alfas in Kwara state.. So forget any issue of spirituality that might go against Bukola Saraki majority of the Alfas in that state are in his support.

5. Bukola Saraki has so much court connection within and outside Nigeria. Every captain of industries in Nigeria are his loyal friends, most of the emirs, Obis, Kings and Obas in the country are his friend.

This man remain unshakable except God himself wants to remove him...

Front page pls let's hear people's opinion

Cc lalasticlala et al.,
