Tonight promises to be one of intense entertainment, music and drama as the best football stars in Africa are honoured, when the winner of the 2018 African Footballer of the Year is revealed by the Confederation of African Football in Dakar, Senegal. Liverpool forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, are the three players battling for the top honour, in a repeat of last year’s shortlist. Egyptian international Salah is the current holder of the award after his goals played a large part in helping Liverpool reaches the Champions League final in 2018. Mane of Senegal last time finished ahead of Gabon’s Aubameyang, who was then with Borussia Dortmund. This is the fifth straight nomination for Aubameyang, who won in 2015. Mane, who was third in 2016, is looking to becoming the first Senegalese winner of the trophy since forward El Hadji Diouf took the 2002 award. Other awards will be given to the best female player in the continent, with Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega in running for the honour. Months after he was named as the first passenger on Elon Musk’s planned rocket flight around the moon, the Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has entered the record books for posting the most retweeted message in Twitter’s 13-year-history. Writing in Japanese, Maezawa noted in his 5 January tweet that his online fashion retailer, Zozotown, had recorded astonishing sales, and to celebrate dangled a cash gift in front of followers who retweeted the message. To show his appreciation, he said he would “present one million yen ($9,200) in cash to 100 people to make a total of 100 million yen,” adding that he would contact the winners via direct message after the 7 January deadline. The message has since between retweeted more than five million times, beating the previous records set by a Nevada teenager’s 2017 campaign to secure a year’s supply of chicken nuggets and Ellen DeGeneres’s celebrity selfie at the 2014 Oscars. The number of people following Maezawa’s account surged from around 500,000 at the end of last week to more than 4.5 million by Monday lunchtime, according to the Japan Times. Maezawa has amassed a personal fortune estimated at $3bn, making him Japan’s 18th richest person, according to Forbes. Last year he added to the pressure on rival fashion retailers with the launch of a made-to-measure garment service using a bodysuit called the Zozosuit. An avid art collector, Maezawa has also demonstrated a philanthropic side, founding the Tokyo-based Contemporary Art Foundation in 2012 to support up-and-coming artists. The 43-year-old founder and chief executive of Japan’s largest online fashion retailer is better known internationally as the first private passenger to make a planned trip around the moon on Musk’s Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), which is under construction. When Musk named Maezawa as BFR’s first paying passenger last September, the Japanese entrepreneur said he planned to invite several artists to join him on the lunar flyby. “They will be asked to create something after they return to Earth. These masterpieces will inspire the dreamer within all of us,” he said. Source: https://www.babanewsline.com.ng/2019/01/japanese-billionaire-splashes-cash-to.html

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Jerry Gana, says his administration will focus on the devolution of power if elected into office. Gana during a meeting in Abuja on Saturday noted that the devolution of power will address the challenges of poverty and over-dependence on federal allocations. “In a good Federal system, the federating units have excellent purposes and basic functions to perform. In Nigeria, most of the federating units, the state, are always waiting to take resources from the Federal Government. That is not a Federal structure. “In a good federal structure, the federating units must be strong on their own. Raising resources on their own. Paying salaries on their own. Every state of the Federal Republic will have resources for them to generate and create wealth. We don’t have to be waiting for the Federal Government. “Therefore, there must be devolution of power to the Federating units, so that our people can be looked after in education, health, housing etc,” Gana said. He also restated his party’s commitment towards the attainment of socio-economic development through grassroots mobilisation and addressing poverty. Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder. Wilfred Ndidi has been rated the best Nigerian player for 2018 and he was also named in France Football magazine’s 2018 African team of the year. Senegal’s Saido Mane and Egypt forward, Mohamed Salah, are the two other England-based players in the squad. “He is certainly not the most spectacular player of his selection or even Leicester. But in his record, the former defensive midfielder of Genk has also settled in the midfield and his statistics in the Premier League are exceptional, both in terms of tackles than balls recovered,” the magazine stated. “As such, the young Nigerian was named by the CAF among the best hopes of the year. Seventy-year-old Chinese man is willing to give all his pension and even his burial service savings to a family that will take care of him until his death. Huan Qi has relatives and even a son, but they rarely visit him, so he decided to just exchange his monthly pension of 6,000 yuan to a caring family that will fill the empty void of his life. Huan Qi had a caretaker for six years, but she later got married, leaving the old man all alone. Xiao Yun, Huan’s carer was like a daughter to him. Ever since she left, Huan had no one left to talk to in his house but himself. The elderly man described his normal days as “miserable”, and the sheer emptiness of his house has left Huan completely sorrowful. Huan’s son is alive and well, but unfortunately he lives in a work dormitory. His son’s visits are way too short that it feels like no one visited him at all. Huan’s siblings live faraway, and his granddaughter rarely visits him. Aside from his loneliness, Huan is also concerned with his fragile health. After careful contemplation, Huan decided to offer his monthly pension to a family that is willing to love and care for him. Aside from the pension money, Huan is also offering the selected family to live with him in his house without any rent fees, if the family is okay with it. However, all his property will be left to his only son if Huan meets his imminent demise. Huan wishes to be buried together with his wife, who died in 1999. The expenses for his burial are already covered by a part of his savings. Just when you think money can’t buy happiness, a shocking story like this comes out, driving you to think otherwise. A Chinese billionaire spent almost $7,000,000 to hire someone who is quite famous in the adult side of the movie industry. The Chinese businessman offered Rola Misaki, also known as Takizawa Rola, a half-Japanese, half-Russian porn star to be “exclusively” his for the next 15 years. The salary he’s offering, $6,925,500, may seem quite a lot to spend for a woman, but the 22-year-old adult actress might just be worth it. The pair already appears to be seeing each other, as they have recently attended events together in Beijing. But according to reports by the Tokyo Reporter and China Record, the wealthy man is always seen wearing a mask to hide his identity. The new couple seems to be enjoying each other’s company, evident in the way they smile at each other in photo. It’s true that a man would do anything for a woman he likes, and that includes splurging unbelievable amount of cash just to be with her. - OPEC oil supply fell in December by the largest amount in almost two years, a Reuters survey found, as top exporter Saudi Arabia made an early start to a supply-limiting accord while Iran and Libya posted involuntary declines. The 15-member Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries pumped 32.68 million barrels per day last month, the survey on Thursday found, down 460,000 bpd from November and the largest month-on-month drop since January 2017. The survey suggests Saudi Arabia and some of its allies acted unilaterally to bolster the market as crude prices slid on the possibility of a new glut. A formal accord by OPEC and its allies to cut supply in 2019 took effect only on Tuesday. Oil has slid to $56 a barrel from a four-year high of $86 in October on signs of excess supply. While OPEC has not ruled out further action, officials hope prices will be supported by further output declines in January as producers implement the new deal. "Naturally, it will adjust from now on," said an OPEC delegate, referring to the downward trend in production. "I hope the market will recover soon." OPEC, Russia and other non-members, an alliance known as OPEC+, agreed in December to reduce supply by 1.2 million bpd in 2019. OPEC's share of that cut is 800,000 bpd. The deal came just months after an accord to pump more oil, which in turn partially unwound a supply cut that took effect in 2017. The drop in OPEC output in December is the largest month-on-month decline since January 2017, the first month of the earlier supply-cutting deal, according to Reuters surveys. SAUDI CUT The biggest drop in OPEC supply last month came from Saudi Arabia and amounted to 400,000 bpd, the survey showed. Saudi supply in November had hit a record 11 million bpd, after U.S. President Donald Trump demanded more oil be pumped to curb rising prices and make up for losses from Iran. The kingdom has said it plans to go even further in January by delivering a larger cut than required under the OPEC+ deal. The second-biggest drop occurred in the United Arab Emirates, which like Saudi voluntarily scaled back supply, the survey found. The third largest was an involuntary cut by Libya, where unrest led to the shutdown of the country's biggest oilfield. Output from Iran declined further as U.S. sanctions discouraged companies from buying its oil. According to industry sources, however, Iran maintained its exports, helped by sanctions waivers granted to eight buyers as well as dogged Iranian efforts to keep selling crude. Among the countries boosting output, the biggest increase was in Iraq due to the restart of Kirkuk crude exports and a rebound in shipments from the country's southern terminals. Output also rose in Kuwait and Nigeria. An OPEC list of output targets seen by Reuters and other news organizations will provide a basis to calculate compliance with the new supply deal in the January survey. As of 2019, OPEC has 14 members following Qatar's departure. The Reuters survey aims to track supply to the market and is based on shipping data provided by external sources, Refinitiv Eikon flows data and information provided by sources at oil companies, OPEC and consulting firms. Babachir Lawal, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), says voters will elect candidates based on merit during the election. While speaking with reporters in Yola, capital of Adamawa state, on Wednesday, he said unlike in 2015 when they voted “one party all through”, voters were now more critical and would only elect people with credible records. He expressed regret that the “one way” voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters threw up “many incredible candidates” but said such would not happen in 2019. “In 2015, voters were asked to vote APC in all elections. That gave the party a massive momentum and all its candidates were returned elected,” he said. “The situation will be different in 2019. Many governors and senators have not performed. They have not replicated President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance. Such people will be voted out.” READ ALSO: 2019 : Frank gives Abdulsalami’s panel 72-hour ultimatum to call Buhari to order Babachir said Nigeria could only move forward if credible people were elected as leaders, saying no elected leader would be allowed to ride to power on Buhari’s “credible outing”. The former SGF accused Abubakar Bindow, governor of Adamawa, of non-performance, and advised APC members and supporters to “urgently do the right thing at the right time”. “There are candidates that are far better than the current governor,” he said. In October 2017, Buhari fired Lawal after he was indicted by a senate panel probing the humanitarian crisis in the north-east. The former SGF was accused of misappropriating funds and abusing his office. Source: https://www.babanewsline.com.ng/2019/01/2019-polls-nigerians-will-vote-out-apc.html |
The Director of Strategic Campaigns of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, asked the opposition party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar to throw-in the towel and apologise to Nigerians to telling false tales that have back-fired and that , Atiku Abubakar should admit it is all over for him and the PDP, throw in the towel and endorse the candidacy of President Buhari. Keyamo in a statement, on Wednesday, reacting to the PDP’s allegations, that President Muhammadu Buhari was diverting funds meant for the procurement of military equipment to finance his 2019 re- election campaign said: ”The widely published refutal by investors in Etisalat and Keystone Bank that the family members of President Buhari have nothing to do with both companies is another indication of the fast-collapsing campaign of the Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and that of the PDP. Festus Keyamo and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar ‘The result of the fact-check, which was published in some news outlets, clearly shows the depth of desperation, deceit and debauchery to which the Atiku campaign has sunk. ‘They have no moral compass, no scruples, no direction in their present attempt to smear just everyone in sight in order to run a campaign of ‘we-are-all-corrupt.’ ”Rather than respect the feelings of Nigerians by offering clear-cut responses to straight-forward allegations of tax-evasion, grand corruption in and out of office, impending sealed indictment waiting for him in the US, Atiku Abubakar has decided to drag the world down with him as he goes down in a blaze of infamy. He has decided to go wild with wild, unsubstantiated allegations against the President and Vice President… This is the classic hallmark of a sinking campaign boat, clutching at straws, as Nigerians have woken up to the realisation that these are deceitful people who have nothing to offer… We call on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the PDP to apologize to Nigerians and especially the family of the President for adopting this unwholesome tactics and telling tales by moonlight that have clearly backfired… Instead of making a mockery of a serious campaign with such infantile lies, Atiku Abubakar should admit it is all over for him and the PDP, throw in the towel and endorse the candidacy of President Buhari. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wednesday accused President Muhammadu Buhari of diverting funds meant for the procurement of military equipments to finance his 2019 re- election campaign. The party made the allegation Wednesday at a press conference addressed by the Director, Media and Publicity of its Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbindiyan. The PDP for the umpteenth time tasked President Buhari to speak up personally on allegations that members of his family acquired majority shares in telecom giants, Etisalat (now 9mobile) and Money Deposit Bank, Keystone Bank PLC. “The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization, PPCO, calls for an urgent investigation into the alleged link between the reportedly diverted military funds and the N1.032 trillion said to have been used by President Muhammadu Buhari’s family members for corrupt acquisition in 9 Mobile Nigeria and Keystone Bank PLC. “The PPCO calls for an independent and system-wide investigation by the INTERPOL, Directorate of State Services, DSS, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on the alleged links between the two funds. “This concerted investigation has become imperative following President Buhari’s failure to directly speak out on the allegations against his family members, as well as explain how they came about the sum of N1.032 trillion for the alleged acquisition. “We make this demand in view of public insinuations that the money may have been sourced from funds meant for the purchase of weapons for our soldiers. “Also, the attention of the PPCO has been drawn to a vicious attempt by the APC to use diversionary tactics to dismiss allegations of corruption hanging directly on President Muhammadu Buhari. The APC is attempting to dismiss revelations that family members of President Buhari’s involvement in acquiring substantial shares in both the 9 Mobile and Keystone Bank Plc that is worth over a N1 trillion. “More so, the Buhari-led Presidency has blatantly refused to respond to allegations that military fund is being used to finance President Buhari’s re-election campaign which even manifested in the use of military resources to produce All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign materials, including an electronic momento book by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali,” the party said. The PDP also bemoaned what it called “disturbing videos” showing Nigerians soldiers battling insurgency in the North-East in pitiable conditions owing to their “neglect” by the Buhari administration. “The PPCO is deeply worried by the disturbing videos of our gallant soldiers languishing and being killed by insurgents due to neglect and failure of the Buhari administration to adequately equip them in the fronts. “The PPCO is also unhappy by similar videos, showing our soldiers protesting and threatening to retreat from the fronts, while grumbling against their neglect by the Buhari administration. “This should not be the way to go for our nation. Our soldiers are brave and have continued to show the highest form of professionalism and unmatched patriotism in risking and laying down their lives in defence of fatherland. Therefore, any action by anybody that is capable of reducing their morale in the fronts must never be allowed,” it added. That said, the publicity scribe also warned the electoral umpire not to toy with neutrality and professionalism in the conduct of the polls, even as it said it was unaware of fresh pressure on it by agents of the ruling party to manipulate the electoral process. He continued: “The PPCO cautions the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Yakubu Mahmood to immediately disentangle himself and his commission from the fresh plot by the APC and the Buhari Presidency to compromise the electoral guideline and pave the way for the alteration of the results of the 2019 general election to favour President Buhari. “We urge Professor Yakubu to note that Nigerians are already aware of the pressure being placed on him by the Buhari-led Presidency and APC seeking to force the commission to drop the display of results at the polling units as well as the electronic transmission of polled figures to INEC server from its guidelines. “The Buhari-led Presidency is desperate to remove these requirements because the display of results at the polling units ensures that results posted at all levels remain those originally announced at the various polling units, while the electronic transmission to INEC server ensures that the results from the polling centers are not tampered with. PDP also demands that INEC allows both local and international observers to its situation room to ensure that the final figures are not tampered with. “This demand has become imperative in the face of allegations and public apprehensions that the INEC Chairman is being offered humongous sums of money, running into billions of naira, by agents of the APC and the cabal at the Buhari Presidency to accede to their demands. “Information at our disposal further reveals that the INEC Chairman has been under pressure from this group said to be coordinated by President Buhari’s blood relation in INEC, who, we are surprised, Prof Yakubu still allows around himself. “Professor Yakubu is now counseled to distance himself from these very dangerous racketeers and the commission from this very dangerous racket, as Nigerians will directly hold him responsible should these two important guidelines that guarantee transparency in the elections suddenly disappear from the INEC manual.” The party also rejected the alleged plan use of past National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members as Ad-Hoc Staff during the elections, saying it is a ploy to deploy card-carrying members of the ruling party. “It has further come to our knowledge that the INEC Chairman is contemplating the deployment of past National Youth Service Commission, NYSC, members for the 2019 election. “The PPCO totally rejects this ignoble intention which is a ploy to use APC card-carrying members as polls officers. “It is very instructive to state that the on going ASUU strike has not by any measure evacuated its members from the surface of the earth. “Therefore, if INEC sought to use the members of ASUU for the 2019 elections, the on going strike will not be an excuse to deploy APC members,” he added. On the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, which expires today, the publicity secretary urged President Buhari to demonstrate his commitment to credible elections by ensuring that the tenure is not renewed. WhatsApp has stopped working on the phones running the Nokia S40 operating system. To recall, WhatsApp announced the end of support for a slew of mobile devices a few years ago, and this includes devices that run on BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry OS, Nokia Symbian S60, Windows Phone 8.0, Nokia S40, Android versions 2.3.7 and older, Apple iOS 7 and older. WhatsApp no longer invests in developing its service for these platforms, and it will stop working on all of them by 2020. It already doesn't work with devices that run on Nokia Symbian S60, BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, and Windows Phone 8.0 OS. After December 31, 2018, WhatsApp stopped working for devices that run on Nokia S40. If you currently own a Nokia S40 phone, you will have to switch to another phone to keep using the service. Nokia series 40 used to be one of the most popular smart feature phone operating systems a few years back, but after the acquisition by Microsoft, the operating system was put to an end. The Nokia S40 OS was seen in the company's mid-tier devices like Nokia Asha 201, Nokia Asha 205, Nokia Asha 210, Nokia Asha 230, Nokia Asha 500, Nokia Asha 501, Nokia Asha 502, Nokia Asha 503, Nokia 206, Nokia 208, Nokia 301, Nokia 515. WhatsApp says that devices that run on Nokia S40 won't be able to use WhatsApp after December 31. Support was originally expected to end in June this year, but WhatsApp extended it till December, bringing some relief to the few Nokia S40 users. We presume the number of people affected by this end of support will be very few, as the Nokia S40 OS is extremely old - first unveiled in 1999, updated in 2005., and last used on Nokia 515 in 2013. The app will stop working on phones running Android 2.3.7 and older (Gingerbread) and iPhone 3GS/ iOS 6 from February 1, 2020. The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says a nine-year old girl, Ajadi Islamiya, incapacitated in a fatal accident in 2017, now walks again, a year after the incident. Islamiya, whose mother died in the crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Dec. 31, 2017, walked exactly a year on the crash anniversary . Mr Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, announced this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun. NAN recalls that a commercial bus with 18 passengers had on Dec. 31, 2017, while heading to Lagos from Ekiti State, rammed into a stationary truck due to speeding along Ogere axis on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Five people were killed including the mother of the girl, while 13 others sustained various degrees of injury. According to him, Islamiya sustained multiple fractures from the auto crash and was taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, Ogun, for an intensive treatment by the Ogere FRSC teams led by Mr Maxwell Lede. The sector commander commended the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Victor Emmanuel, for treating the girl without being sure of recovering his money for the past one year. ” I want to thank and give glory to God because she can now walk on her own without any artificial support. “Only God who preserves her from the valley of the shadow of death on the Dec. 31,2017 is worthy to be praised,” he said. Maxwell Lede, who is the Ogere Unit Commander of FRSC, told NAN that he was excited to see that the command’s efforts in the timely rescue of the accident victims were not in vain. US boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather will return to America $88m richer on Monday after fighting undefeated Japanese kickboxing prodigy Tenshin Nasukawa. The match is a New Year’s Eve multi-million-dollar rumble outside Tokyo to be held under boxing rules. At 41, Mayweather is more than twice the age of his Japanese opponent, the 20-year-old known as “Ninja Boy” but will carry a more than 4kg (9lb) weight advantage into the ring. The bout in Saitama, north of Tokyo, will be fought over three rounds of three minutes but there are no judges and no winner will be declared unless there is a knockout. The bout will also not count on the record of either fighter — allowing both men to retain their cherished unbeaten records — and is being promoted as a pure exhibition match. It will also be boxing only — putting Nasukawa at a disadvantage, with the kickboxer reportedly liable to a $5 million fine if he aims a kick at Mayweather. The purse has not been officially disclosed but media reports have claimed that Mayweather is making $88 million for the nine minutes of action. At a pre-fight news conference, a relaxed-looking Mayweather said he could complete three rounds “in his sleep”. “It is all about entertainment. I don’t worry about anything,” said Mayweather, a legend in the boxing world who has a perfect 50 in and zero defeats record with 27 knockouts. The relaxed American said he would not be concerned even if he were to be floored by his Japanese opponent. “Me getting knocked out or me getting knocked down … I don’t worry about it at all. If that does happen, I mean that’s entertainment. That’s all we need to see,” said Mayweather. Virtually unknown outside the kickboxing ring in his own country, the bleach-blond Nasukawa from Chiba near Tokyo also boasts an unbeaten record. He won the world junior karate championship, made his professional kickboxing debut at the age of 16 and has a 28-0 record with 21 wins by knockout. Promoters RIZIN have hailed him as “perhaps the best combat sports prospect the country has ever seen” and the 20-year-old himself has claimed he has a “punch that boxers don’t have.” “I want to be the man who changes history. I’ll do that with these fists, with one punch — just watch,” Nasukawa said. Source:https://www.babanewsline.com.ng/2018/12/mayweather-makes-88m-today-after-fight.html

Aquaman is what i Want to Watch. |
Warner Bros.’ latest DC comics adaptation will earn $51.5 million from 4,125 locations in its second frame. That will bring its domestic total to $188.8 million after its first ten days at the box office. Aquaman is directed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, the half-human prince of Atlantis he first played in Justice League (after a silent cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Aquaman must return to Atlantis to stop his half-brother from leading the underwater kingdoms into open warfare against the surface. Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns is set for second place in its sophomore weekend with $28 million, bringing the film's total to $98 million domestic. The film is a sequel to Mary Poppins, the beloved 1964 Disney classic. Emily Blunt plays the iconic title role as Poppins reunites with the Banks children, now adults, after a family tragedy. Bumblebee, the first standalone Transformers spinoff movie, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the first animated Spider-Man movie, are battling for third place this weekend. Each film is looking at about $20 million for the weekend, but Bumblebee looks most likely to win the fight. Bumblebee is the sixth Transformers movie. The prequel takes place in the 1980s, which is when the franchise was born as a toy line and television cartoon. The film honors that history by having its Transformers look much more like the original cartoon and toy designs than the Michael Bay-directed films did. The film is also the strongest reviewed of all the Transformers movies, carrying a 94 percent fresh rating from review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. Hailee Steinfeld is the film's live-action lead, with Dylan O'Brien providing the voice of Bumblebee. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the first Spider-Man movie to focus on Miles Morales. Miles learns that there is an entire multiverse of spider-themed heroes like himself, including the Peter Parker of another timeline. What are you seeing at the box office this weekend? Keep reading to see this weekend’s full box office top ten. Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. Pogba looking a different player Pogba has been transformed since Mourinho departed United. His talent was never in doubt, but once again he appears to be making every attempt to control the midfield, something he rarely seemed capable of before the change in manager. On Sunday, he was everywhere, always looking to be demanding possession. Whatever Solskjaer has said to him, it appears to have done the trick. Rashford the inspiration Pogba certainly deserves praise for his performance, but Rashford was the best player on the pitch. Not only did he lead the line effectively, he was a constant threat when drifting out wide as well, as shown by his sublime assist for the opening goal. Key Opta Facts - Manchester United have recorded three consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since a run of five in April. - After losing their first league clash with Bournemouth in December 2015, the Red Devils are unbeaten in each of the last seven Premier League games against them (W6 D1). - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is only the third United manager to win his first three league games in charge of the club, after Matt Busby and Jose Mourinho. - Marcus Rashford has provided six assists in 17 Premier League appearances this season; as many as in his previous two seasons combined (77 apps). - Paul Pogba has scored four goals in his three Premier League appearances under Solskjaer, as many as he had in his previous 20 under Mourinho. - With four goals and three assists, December 2018 has been Pogba's best month for goal involvements in his top-flight career. Roberto Firmino was at his ruthless best as he scored his first Premier League hat-trick to inspire a 5-1 demolition of Arsenal at Anfield and put Liverpool nine points clear at the summit after Tottenham's defeat to Wolves. The visit of Unai Emery's men was seen as a potentially troublesome fixture, but the Reds made light work of them, with all of their revered front three finding the net in a devastating performance. A chaotic five-minute spell in the first half saw Ainsley Maitland-Niles put Arsenal ahead, before a quickfire Firmino brace turned the score around. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah ensured a rampant Liverpool went into the break 4-1 up. Liverpool's pressure did not subside after half-time and Firmino completed his treble from the spot 25 minutes from time, rounding off a miserable day for the Gunners and increasing the heat on Manchester City ahead of their meeting with Southampton on Sunday. Arsenal went ahead in the 11th minute when Maitland-Niles tapped in Alex Iwobi's excellent left-wing cross. But within five minutes, they were trailing. Firmino equalised from close range after Stephan Lichtsteiner played a clearance against Shkodran Mustafi. The Brazilian then brilliantly slalomed past two defenders and finished coolly into the bottom-right corner from 18 yards 90 seconds later. Mane got in on the act just past the half-hour mark, emphatically slamming home after a squared pass from Salah. The Egyptian scored their fourth on the stroke of half-time, converting a penalty after referee Michael Oliver adjudged he had been tripped by Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Liverpool remained dominant after the interval, but Aaron Ramsey did go close to pulling one back – his shot deflecting away from the target, before an offside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang comically put over from close range. Firmino wrapped things up in the 65th minute, scoring from the spot after Sead Kolasinac appeared to nudge Dejan Lovren to the ground. What does it mean? Liverpool flex their muscles ahead of City showdown An away game against City comes up next for Liverpool, and this was certainly an impressive way to warm up for such an outing. With their front three in fine form, Klopp got the perfect collective performance to instil a bit of fear into Pep Guardiola's men. Firmino the star All three of Liverpool's frontline deserve honourable mentions, but Firmino was the standout for his link-up play, clever off-the-ball movement and three goals – the second of which being brilliant. A flawless display. Torreira chasing shadows Young Uruguayan Lucas Torreira has made a strong start to life in the Premier League, though he was miles off the pace at Anfield, his usual snappy style nowhere to be seen. What's next? Liverpool get 2019 started on January 3 with a trip to defending champions City, in a game which will likely have a significant bearing on where the Premier League title ends up this season. Arsenal host Fulham on New Year's Day. Source: https://www.babanewsline.com.ng/2018/12/liverpool-5-vs-arsenal-1-reds-go-nine.html Baba News

What's common between former U.S. first lady Hillary Clinton, American pop sensation Beyonce and India's former President Pranab Mukherjee? Nothing really one would argue, except there is! They were all part of the VIP guest list of the world's biggest wedding party. India may still be a developing nation but the country just witnessed the world's grandest marriage ceremony ever. The stupendous 100-million-U.S.-dollar wedding bash was thrown by Asia's richest man and India's oil-and-telecom tycoon Mukesh Ambani for his 27-year-old daughter Isha Ambani. The cost is like a drop in the ocean for Ambani whose net worth is 43.7 billion U.S. dollars. The event has become the most expensive wedding in the world after the marriage ceremony of Lady Diana with Prince Charles in 1981. According to an estimate, if the increase in the value of the currency is taken into account, around 110 million U.S. dollars were spent at the royal wedding 37 years ago. In May, the wedding of Prince Harry and Hollywood actress Meghan Markle cost over 40 million U.S. dollars. The Big Fat Indian Wedding It was an extravagant five-day celebration of the coming together of India's two wealthiest families. Yale graduate Ms. Ambani got married to her childhood friend, Anand Parimal, also the scion of one of India's most prominent business families with a net worth of 4.2 billion U.S. dollars. The wedding took place on December 12 at their 27-storey Mumbai residence, Antilla, also one of the world's most expensive private residences, second only to the Buckingham Palace. Reports also suggest that the Piramals have gifted their daughter-in-law and son a five-storey sea-facing mansion worth 62 million U.S. dollars in Mumbai's posh Worli area. The grand festivities began with a two-day pre-wedding carnival at a 16th-century palace-turned-hotel in Udaipur, also known as the city of lakes, in India's northwestern state of Rajasthan. The city is no stranger to "big-fat" weddings but this time it was bigger than ever. Forty chartered planes and over a thousand luxury cars were made available to the guests who arrived from across the globe. The VIP guest list included names like Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas and Bollywood superstars like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Aishwarya Rai. The stage under the starry night was set on fire by performances by top celebrities from the tinsel town and the Ambanis themselves. But this was just the beginning, the billionaire dad also arranged American pop-star Beyonce for a 45-minute private concert. If reports are to be believed, the singing sensation pocketed around three million U.S. dollars for performing popular songs like Crazy in Love, Naughty Girl and Perfect, among others. After Udaipur, it was time for Mumbai to witness the grand spectacle of wealth and revelry. The invitation card for the wedding reportedly cost over 4,000 U.S. dollars each. The attendees included top Bollywood celebrities, high-profile politicians, businessmen, and journalists. But soon several videos showing India's biggest superstars like Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan serving food to the guests at the wedding left the social media users amused. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is seen serving food to the guests from the groom's side at the wedding. Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, son of Amitabh Bachchan defended his father on Twitter, claiming they were just following an old Indian tradition of being a good host. The larger-than-life celebrations have also been criticized by many in the country where 65 million people still live under extreme poverty. According to a Paris-based World Inequality Lab, the richest 10 percent of India's population controlled 63 percent of its wealth in 2012. Some call it a wasteful expenditure by crazy rich Asians but many believe it's just capitalism at work. Can a one-man's show of wealth be linked to the misery of millions? And should the richie-rich avoid a luxurious public spectacle of a personal family affair? The wedding is over but the debate rages on. Source: Asia's Richest Man's Daugter's wedding for more Photos
