CelebritiesEverything You Need To Know About Africa’s Richest Woman, Isabel Dos Santos by Babanews(op): 8:12am On Oct 13, 2017
She’s Africa’s richest woman according to Forbes 2016 research. Her rise to stardom is a truism of John Mason’s assertion: “The world makes room for a person of purpose.”

According to Forbes, her real time Net Worth as of September 24, 2016, was $3.3 Billion.

Rocky Path to Greatness

Born on April 20th, 1973 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, Isabel dos Santos had one goal: to make impact in what many tagged “the men’s world.” Though she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth as the daughter of Angola’s long serving President, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, she chose to follow the rocky path.

“I am not financed by any state money or any public funds. I don’t do that. I always had this wish to stand alone and not be in my parents’ shadow,” she said in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, while reacting to critics, who hinted she is flourishing under the influence of her father’s wealth.

Her journey to greatness kick-started at King’s College in London where she studied electrical engineering, and latter bagged Bachelor of Arts/ Science degrees.

In the early 1990s, Isabel dos Santos returned from London to join her father in Luanda and started working as a project manager engineer for Urbana 2000, a subsidiary of Jembas Group that won the contract for the cleaning and disinfection of the capital.

Consumed by a passion to succeed, she set up a trucking business which served as her bedrock before she joined the telecommunications world.

At 24, she started her first business by opening the Miami Beach Club, one of the very first night clubs and beach restaurants on the Luanda Island in 1997.

In a space of 20 years, the business mogul had expanded her business interests to garner several holdings in Angola and mostly abroad even as she surged interest in making investments in established enterprises, notably in Portugal.

Since 2008, she has made relevant investments in telecommunications, finance, media, retail and energy industry both in Angola and in Portugal.

From 2009 to 2012, her shares increased exponentially, investing heavily in Telecommunications and financial services both in Angola and abroad.

Unexpectedly, her investments only took only few time to manifest and since then, encomiums as well as awards have not stopped trickling in.In 2007, the business guru was described by Portuguese daily newspaper, Publico as a good businesswoman, very dynamic and intelligent, who’s also professional and friendly.

In December 2014, the Togolese magazine African Top Success named Isabel dos Santos as “African of the Year” dusting off competition from five opponents from the continent.

In November 2015, BBC named her as one of the 100 most influential women in the world for her leading role in the economy and development of the African continent. And that’s our dream, make Africa a place like anywhere else in the world.”

Little wonder an anonymous philosopher quipped: “It may be in seemingly unimportant things that a man expresses his passion for perfection, yet they will count heavily in the long run.”

At 43, and happily married to Sindika Dokolo from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with three children, Isabel dos Santos is unarguably one of the best women to have graced the African continent.

CelebritiesMeet Nigerian Male Celebrities Who Married Women Who Are Older by Babanews(op): 10:34pm On Oct 12, 2017
It would however seem that the stigma is lifting, as more Nigerian women are openly dating and even marrying their young lovers, not caring what the world thinks; and why should they? We must accept love wherever it finds us, right? Well, these women certainly think so, banishing tradition and living out their dream love lives. And yes, you know them.

Oh well, today i would love us to take a peep into the private lives of our very own Nigerian celebrities with daring age gaps between them and their women.

1. LOLA & PETER OKOYE

Top in the list of Nigerian Male Celebrities Who Married Older Women in no particular order is is Peter Okoye of P-Square musical duo and Lola Omotayo.

Lola is said to be 6 years older than Peter. Peter and his twin brother Paul were born on the 18th of November 1981. Although no one is saying anything concerning Lola’s precise date of birth, of course you know how it is with women and their age.

In an earlier interview years back, Lola addressed the age gap between them thus:“Like I said, Peter is an old soul and he always tells me that I’m like a 23-year-old. Age is just a number. Right now, you can see it around the world. Demi Moore, Usher and some known people. Even in Nigeria here, they are dating people far older than their age. So, we shouldn’t base it on the age factor. He doesn’t make me feel like he’s younger than me.”

2. DEOLA AYENI & DARE ART-ALADE

Next on the list is Dare Art-Alade and his wife Deola Ayeni. Deola is 8 years older than Darey yet they’ve been married for over 5 years with lovely kids.

Dare once responded thus in an interview about their age gap:
Do you not feel any pressure of any sort being married to somebody older than you are?

No pressures at all! Every body at sometime finds what works for him or her. I am perfectly happy with my marriage to my wife and I absolutely have no problems or pressures of any sort.

3. TOYIN LAWANI and TRIGGA

Another couple who are proudly flying the flag for older woman/younger man relationship is celeb stylist/fashion designer Toyin Lawani who is 32 years old & engaged to her 22 year old boo Triggakess, Omo, a whole lot of 10 years difference!!!

The couple who proudly refer to themselves as Naija’s Rihanna & Chris Brown, they both welcomed their first baby couple of months ago although Toyin has an 8 year old daughter from a previous relationship. Theirs show that age is just a number and that what matters is love.

In her recent interview, Toyin responded thus about their age difference:

Congratulations on your second child. How are you combining motherhood and work?
Thank you. It’s been very tedious. It’s not only about having a maid, sometimes you need to be present at things like P.T.A. meetings that need personal attention. But Trigga has been wonderful and understanding. He helps a lot.

5. ANNE NJEMANZE & SILVER OJIESON

Segun Arinze’s ex wife, actress Ann Njemanze, who remarried last year disclosed in an interview that her husband is few years younger than her.

Hear her:

Your husband seems so young and fresh, he’s younger than you are obviously?

Ah, yes he is, with few years. My husband and I do not share up to 5 years difference and he is not bothered about it.

Has he ever been married before?

No, he’s never been married, no way. This is his last marriage in Jesus name. He is the only son of his parents too from Edo State.

6. QUEEN URE OKEZIE & SOUL E

Before their separation, they were so much in love despite the fact that Queen Ure was 11 years older than Soul E.

In one of their major interviews years ago when they were still very much in love, they both addressed their wide age gap thus:

Did you consider his age at that time?

URE: No Did he tell you?

URE: Well he added a few years to his age.

What do you have to say about the reports that you are fond of dating older women?

SOUL E:I don’t have anything to say about it, it is my life. I have always known that it would happen; I’m too big that’s why I attract people that are older than me. I told my parents when I was growing up that I don’t know- then, I had two serious relationships and all of them were older than me. I knew right from the scratch that I was going to end up with someone older than me.

PoliticsRe: Nigerian Judges Will Decline To Hear Suits Filed By Other Criminals NOT Looters by Babanews(op): 8:56pm On Oct 12, 2017
It is a good thing when criminals are not allowed to either get away with or delay cases with legal antics like the case of Evans.
But while it is easy for some Judges to decline to hear suits filed by other criminals, the same is not applicable with high profile cases involving other politicians or highly placed public servants.
PoliticsNigerian Judges Will Decline To Hear Suits Filed By Other Criminals NOT Looters by Babanews(op): 8:51pm On Oct 12, 2017
Justice Abdulazeez Anka of the Federal High Court, Lagos on Wednesday, October 11, declined to hear a fundamental rights suit filed by suspected kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans.

Evans is seeking N300 million damages for his illegal detention.

NAN reports that Anka said that the case file would be returned to the administrative judge for further directive.

The judge had earlier heard the case during the court’s long vacation and had adjourned until August 29 for judgment after parties argued it and adopted their addresses on August 16.

But the police through its counsel David Igbodo said another lawyer, Henry Obiazi, who represented the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Nigeria police when the case was heard did so without authorisation.

The police prayed the court to set aside all the purported arguments made by Obiazi and to set aside the ruling it delivered on August 16 in which he adjourned for judgment.

When the case came up before another judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor during the long vacation, he held that the case was no longer urgent.

Obizor, then returned the file to the Chief Judge, Justice Adamu Kafarati for re-assignment to another judge.

The case was subsequently re-assigned to Justice Babs Kuewemi.

However, Evans’ lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, wrote the chief judge informing him that Anka had already adjourned the case for judgment.

Based on the letter, the case was again returned to Anka.

When the case came up before Anka on Wednesday, he expressed displeasure that the case was returned to him when the issue of judgment had been overtaken by events.

The judge said that since the police had filed other applications, the earlier adjournment for judgment had become void.

Anka added that even if he had written the judgment earlier, it meant that a new one would be written.

Police counsel Chukwu Agwu accused Ogungbeje of “smuggling” the case file back to Anka’s court.

“The case was re-assigned to Justice Kuewumi. How my learned colleague smuggled this case to this court is baffling.

“He did not avail us with a copy of his letter to the chief judge, otherwise we would have reacted,” he said.

But Ogungbeje said his letter was on the premise that since a judgment had already been fixed, it could be delivered by Anka after entertaining the late applications filed by the police.

Meanwhile, Anka held that it was not factual to say that judgment had been reserved “when its not’’.

He said that the court was obliged to hear the fresh applications by the police.

The judge said the case was not adjourned for judgment but for hearing, adding that Ogungbeje’s claim that the case was for judgment was not the true position.

Ruling, he said: “the case was made for hearing of the motion of first and second respondents.

“The court shall therefore cause a letter to be written to the Administrative Judge to explain the true position of the case, which is for further hearing and not judgment.

“Parties shall therefore await the decision of the Admin Judge, either to re-assign the case or for this court to maintain the case in its cause list.”

Evans has since been arraigned before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court.

While Evans and two others pleaded guilty to the charges, the remaining defendants pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution said that the defendants between Feb. 14 and April 12, on Obokun Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons captured and detained Duru Donatus.

It said that the defendants allegedly collected a ransom of 223,000 Euros to release Donatus.

In his fundamental rights suit, Evans is claiming N300 million against the police as damages for alleged illegal detention and rights violation.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has on Tuesday, October 10, ordered the Nigeria police force to produce in court Okwuchukwu Obiechina, a brother-in-law to Evans.

Justice Mohammed Idris directed Okwuchukwu Obiechina's lawyer to put the police on notice with an order that Obiechina must be brought before him on October 12 to show cause why the order for his immediate release should not be made.

SportsWorld Cup 2018: Your Guide To All The Teams That Have Qualified So Far (photos) by Babanews(op): 5:29pm On Oct 11, 2017
=> 23 nations have secured their place at the World Cup finals in Russia so far
=> Russia qualified automatically as host nation of next summer's tournament
=> England, Germany, France and Spain among European big guns qualified
=> Iceland and Panama will be at the World Cup finals for first time in history
=> Argentina joined Brazil at the tournament after final matchday drama

The qualification process for next summer's World Cup is almost complete and this latest international week has helped add some more names to the Russia 2018 guest list.

The main group phase for the European qualifying has been completed, with the four play-off ties to come next month.

South America wrapped up on Tuesday evening, while Africa concludes with the final fixtures next month. Asia and North America are poised to send their candidates forward into the Intercontinental play-off.

Here's your complete guide to each of the nations that will definitely be on the plane to Russia next year.

EUROPE

RUSSIA

How did they qualify? Host nation Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Fourth place 1966

You can hardly have a World Cup without inviting the host nation, can you? Russia were spared the travails of the European qualifying groups and have been playing friendlies to keep themselves in match shape.

We already know that they will get the ball rolling at the newly rebuilt Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on June 14 in the first of the Group A fixtures.

BELGIUM

How did they qualify? Winners of Group H Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Fourth place 1986

As easy as it gets for the Belgians, who booked their place last month and have bossed qualifying group H.

Roberto Martinez's side are ranked among the favourites to win the whole thing and they've rampaged through their group scoring tons of goals in the process.

Eden Hazard will be central to Belgium's hopes of progressing far at the World Cup

ENGLAND

How did they qualify? Winners of Group F Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Winners 1966

It's hardly been the most inspiring qualification campaign, but Gareth Southgate's Three Lions are in the finals safe and sound. They secured their place with a 1-0 win over Slovenia last week though, on current form, few will be tipping them to replicate their famous triumph of 1966.

Tottenham's Harry Kane will be central to England's hopes of doing something out in Russia

FRANCE

How did they qualify? Winners of Group A Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Winners 1998

It was simple enough for France, who finished top of Group A, four points clear of challengers Sweden and Holland.

Didier Deschamps' side beat Belarus 2-1 on Tuesday night to confirm their automatic qualification slot. They will be looking to improve on their performance at Euro 2016, when they reached the final but lost to Portugal.

GERMANY

How did they qualify? Winners of Group C Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Winners 1954, 1974, 1990, 2014

A perfect 10 wins out of 10 in qualifying for the defending champions, who racked up 43 goals and finished an impressive 11 points ahead of second-placed Northern Ireland.

Packed with players who know how it feels to be successful on the highest stage and with formidable strength-in-depth, the Germans will probably be favourites to win it again.

ICELAND

How did they qualify? Winners of Group I Last appearance: Never qualified Best performance: N/A

The Icelandic footballing fairytale continues. They stunned England en route to reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 and now they'll be back to have a crack at the World Cup.

Iceland secured their spot with a 2-0 victory over Kosovo on Monday night, topping a tricky group ahead of Croatia, Ukraine and Turkey.

POLAND

How did they qualify? Winners of Group E Last appearance: 2006 Best performance: Third place 1974, 1982

A 4-2 home win over Montenegro ended Poland's decade-long wait for a World Cup return and they owe a lot to striker Robert Lewandowski and his 16 goals in qualifying.

That enabled them to keep their necks ahead of Denmark in the group and given their geographical proximity, we can expect thousands of Pole to be making the trip.

PORTUGAL

How did they qualify? Winners of Group B Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Third place 1966

Managed to overcome Switzerland in the final game in Group B at home to secure automatic qualification.

Finished level on points but a vastly superior goal difference - they scored 12 more than the second placed side - meant they earned a place in Russia.

SERBIA

How did they qualify? Winners of Group D Last appearance: 2010 Best performance: Third place 1930 and 1962 Just edged out the Republic of Ireland to top a tight Group D that also featured challenges from Wales and Austria. It went down to the final round of fixtures, with Aleksandar Prijovic scoring the winner against Georgia to take them to Russia.

SPAIN

How did they qualify? Winners of Group G Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Winners 2010

A straightforward qualifying campaign for the 2010 champions despite the unnerving presence of Italy in their group.

In the end, a dominant 3-0 win over the Italians in Madrid last month proved decisive and Spain are another of the European nations to complete all 10 games unbeaten.

WHAT NEXT IN EUROPE?

The eight runners-up with the best records in qualifying now advance to the play-off. The draw will be made at FIFA headquarters in Zurich next Tuesday and, depending on their FIFA Rankings, four will be seeded and four not seeded.

The first legs of the play-offs will be played between November 9 and 11, with the second legs between November 12 and 14.

The teams that have reached the play-offs are Croatia, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland.

SOUTH AMERICA

BRAZIL

How did they qualify? Winners of the South American group Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Winners 1950, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002)

As their rivals laboured beneath them, Brazil made light work of the often arduous 18-game South American round robin.

The five-time winners of the World Cup have performed precisely as you'd expect from a team of such pedigree and they'll definitely be among the favourites.

URUGUAY

How did they qualify? Runners-up in the South American group Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Winners 1930, 1950

Two goals from Luis Suarez in a 4-2 home win over Bolivia made sure of Uruguay's place at a third successive World Cup, though they finished some 10 points behind group winners Brazil.

Nonetheless, with a side packed with talented players, Oscar Tabarez's team could be dark horses at the tournament in Russia.

ARGENTINA

How did they qualify? Third place in South American group Last qualified: 2014 Best performance: Winners 1978, 1986

My goodness they had us all worried, but Argentina scraped over the line and into next summer's World Cup thanks to a Lionel Messi hat-trick in a 3-1 away win over Ecuador.

That result lifted the finalists from last time from sixth - missing out entirely - to third in what was a chaotic scramble for the four automatic spots.

COLOMBIA

How did they qualify? Fourth place in South American group Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Quarter-finals 2014

James Rodriguez scored a crucial goal to earn Colombia a 1-1 draw away to Peru and snatch the fourth automatic spot, pushing their opponents into the play-offs.

In the end, Colombia won just seven of 18 qualifying games and lost five but managed to squeeze through.

WHAT NEXT IN SOUTH AMERICA?

Peru, who finished fifth in the CONMEBOL group, advance to an Inter-Confederation play-off against New Zealand, winners of the Oceania section. The first leg is on November 6 and the return on November 14.

NORTH AMERICA

COSTA RICA

How did they qualify? Runners-up in the North American group Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Quarter-finals 2014

A dramatic equaliser in the fifth minute of injury time against Honduras last week took Costa Rica through to Russia.

They haven't quite been able to keep pace with leaders Mexico, but have got the job done, the highlight being a 4-0 drubbing of the United States.

MEXICO

How did they qualify? Winners in the North American group Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Quarter-finals 1970, 1986

It's been a straightforward final phase to qualifying for the Mexicans, who set the tone with a 2-1 win over the United States in Columbus and kicked on from there.

They have been a presence at the last six World Cups and Russia 2018 will be no exception.

PANAMA

How did they qualify? Third place in North American group Last appearance: Never qualified Best performance: N/A

History was made in Panama as a 2-1 win over Costa Rica in their final qualifier on Tuesday, coupled with a surprise defeat for the United States in Trinidad and Tobago, took them to a first-ever World Cup.

They finished level on points with Honduras, but advance by virtue of their superior goal difference.

WHAT NEXT IN NORTH AMERICA?

Fourth-placed side Honduras will now play Australia for a place in the World Cup in next month's Inter-Confederation play-off.

The first leg will be played in Honduras on November 6 and the return in Sydney on November 14.

ASIA

IRAN

How did they qualify? Winners of qualifying group A Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Group stage 1978, 1998, 2006, 2014

Narrow wins in their home fixtures and goalless draws on the road seem to be the story of Iran's final phase of qualifying - which they completed unbeaten in 10 games.

It was hardly spectacular stuff but the mission was accomplished and they'll try and reach the knockout stage for the first time in Russia.

SAUDI ARABIA

How did they qualify? Runners-up in qualifying Group B Last appearance: 2006 Best performance: Round of 16 1994

It was a close run thing for second spot behind Japan in Group B, with Saudi Arabia edging out Australia by just two on the goal difference.

They make it to a finals for the first time since Germany 2006 and that despite losing three of their 10 matches.

JAPAN

How did they qualify? Winners of qualifying Group B Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Round of 16 2002 and 2010

A 2-0 home win over Australia booked their place at Russia 2018 and made it six tournaments on the bounce for Japan.

They took top spot despite a couple of defeats but could well be the strongest of the Asian contenders at the tournament.

SOUTH KOREA

How did they qualify? Runners-up in qualifying Group A Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Fourth place 2002

A record of four wins from five at home helped to offset three defeats on the road as South Korea edged surprise package Syria to claim second spot.

A reliable presence at finals, South Korea are heading to their ninth tournament in succession.

WHAT NEXT IN ASIA?

Australia have advanced to the Inter-Confederation play-off against Honduras, the fourth-best North American country, after defeating Syria 3-2 on aggregate in the Asian play-off.

The first leg will be played on November 6 and the return on November 14.

EGYPT

How did they qualify? Winners of qualifying group E Last appearance: 1990 Best performance: First round 1934, 1990

There were jubilant scenes across Egypt after a 95th-minute penalty beat Congo on Sunday and delivered them to a first World Cup finals since Italia '90.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scored five goals in the final phase of qualifying as they topped a group that contained Uganda, Ghana and Congo.

NIGERIA

How did they qualify? Winners of qualifying group B Last appearance: 2014 Best performance: Round of 16 1994, 1998, 2014

Four wins from five games delivered Nigeria to the finals at the top of Group B as they finished ahead of Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria.

With the likes of Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and John Obi Mikel, there will be plenty of Premier League interest in Nigeria's fortunes next summer.

WHAT NEXT IN AFRICA?

The final round of fixtures takes place next month with three qualification spots still up for grabs.

In Group A, Tunisia are in pole position as they sit three points ahead of DR Congo and conclude with a home fixture against eliminated Libya.

The match between Ivory Coast and Morocco on November 11 will decide who qualifies from Group C.

Senegal have a two-point lead over Burkina Faso and Cape Verde in Group D. Senegal must yet play South Africa twice after their first meeting was ordered replayed.

he handed over power to vice president to become acting President. he did not hand over power as minister of petroleum to the minister of state for petroleum.
Yes. It is true the contracts had nothing to do with the President but the Minister of Petroleum - which Osinbajo is not. But, i still do not see how the minister of petroleum will sign contracts from his sick bed. Powers must have been handed over to another - which is the minister of state, in this case.

The whole thing is cloudy. Is that why Presidency backs Baru

SportsRussia 2018: Egypt Claim Africa’s Second World Cup Ticket, Ghana Out by Babanews(op): 1:41pm On Oct 09, 2017
The Egypt national football team have emerged as the second African country to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

An injury-time penalty from Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah ensured Egypt’s qualification as they beat Congo 2-1 on Sunday to move into an unassailable position at the top of their group with one match still to complete.

The Pharaohs, who have not reached the World Cup finals since 1990, needed victory in Alexandria to guarantee their place next summer after Uganda and Ghana drew on Saturday.

They looked on course when Salah put Héctor Cúper’s side ahead just after the hour, only for Arnold Bouka Moutou to equalise with his first international goal.

But a late penalty from Salah ensured Egypt will be in Russia, making them the second African nation to qualify after Nigeria’s nervy win on Saturday against Zambia.

Three more tickets are left to be picked by other African teams.

SportsRead How The Term 'Oyinbo Wall' Was Formed by Babanews(op): 8:57am On Oct 09, 2017
Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong have formed a partnership in the Super Eagles central defence which has become very exciting for Nigerians.

The partnership which is now called the ‘Oyinbo Wall’ was instrumental in the Super Eagles unbeaten games in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Balogun explained that the name ‘Oyinbo Wall’ was coined by him and Ekong after the game in Yaounde where the Super Eagles beat Cameroon 4-0 in Uyo on September 1 before battling to a 1-1 draw away in Yaounde September 4.

The Mainz defender revealed that they coined the name because Nigerians kept calling them ‘Oyinbo’ a term used to describe people with light skin.

“Nigerians kept calling us Oyinbo so we called our partnership Oyinbo Wall,” Balogun told Pulse Sports at the mix zone of the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Yaounde after the Super Eagles game against Cameroon.

“We hope the partnership can be better and go on for a long time.” He said.

The Leon Balogun was born in Germany to a Nigerian father and German mother while Troost-Ekong was born in the Netherlands to a Nigerian father and Dutch mother.

See more photos of the 'Oyinbo Wall' in link below.
