PoliticsRe: Gmb & Other African Presidents Above Age 70 by Babare(op): 7:42pm On Jan 19, 2015
IanDiamonds:
Good leaders are crafted from tough times, even failure. Necessary experience rarely comes before 50. There is a prime age, like wine in which credibility is Established. In the case of a country like Nigeria, Character and courage are more important factors to take to consideration than age "If you're corrupt while young, so much won't change about you when you grow old. Mostly in our system of govt, when a leader is replaced, everything else change; for the better or the worse. But more than is generally realized, the effectiveness of leaders depends on the context around them.
The best leaders pay a great deal of attention to the design of elements around them: they articulate a lucid sense of purpose, create effective leadership teams, prioritize and sequence their initiatives carefully, redesign organizational structures to make good
execution easier, and most important,
integrate all of these tactics into one coherent strategy. This is something our current leaders lack.
In essence, age might be a factor but not in the current situation of the Nigerian State. Your analogy with past leaders does not entirely fit into this context: The context of Morals and Integrity that is.
True, character and competence defines a good leader. But in the face of a rising democracy - which belongs to the new world, age matters. The operators of democracy must be conversant with the trends of the new world if they are to truly uphold the tenets of democracy. A man past 60 definitely belongs to the old world as he is even older than mist African nations. Age is a differentiating factor in this sense as those in time understand and uphold what is in voke. I am not saying a man at 60 cannot operate democracy rightly. I am saying such a man must be in voke to understand what is trending.

In the analogy, you'd see that all the leaders listed belong to the old world, and are refusing to accept what is trending.

The only solution here is education. LEADERSHIP WILL NEVER BE RIGHT UNTIL LEADERS ARE EDUCATED.

THOSE OF OUR GENERATION ARE WELL EDUCATED AND WELL BRED. CHARACTER AND COMPETENCE DOESN'T JUST APPEAR.

Without sentiments, I think what the Brookings institute article says is correct. The north just want power back. And some aggrieved south-westerners want power taken away from GEJ because he is a MINORITY who neglected them whilst making key appointments.

GMB is never an option. He is old and frail, and obviously has little more years to spend on earth. He should be resting like Shagari, Ekwueme, Babaginda and the rest of them. Why is he wanting power by all meanshuh?

It is clear that this same BUHARI who claims he wants to fight corruption is suffering from the CORRUPTION of POWER.

GEJ is doing fairly despite the insurgency and its effect on the country's administration. If THEY can ask Boko Haram to cease operation, Nigeria may be better.

True, we want another leader. But not GMB. He is a remedy that is more harmful than the disease we are suffering....

PoliticsUS Top Think-tank, Brookings, Project Jonathan Win; Lambast APC by Babare(op): 11:48am On Jan 19, 2015
Brookings, the World’s most
influential think-tank based in the
United States, have projected a
President Jonathan victory over the
opposition candidate’s General Buhari
in the 2015 Elections which it
suggests would be keenly contested.

The analysis, context and rationale of
the think-tank’s projections is
contained in the Brookings
publication titled: Foresight Africa –
Top Priorities for the continent
(January 2015).

“Though the election is expected to be
very competitive, the odds still favor
President Jonathan.’

According to Brookings, the All
Progressives Congress (APC) is a
fragile anti-jonathan establishment
with a sole purpose to return power
to the north.

“The party is, however, a fragile one
that seems united only in its quest to
wrest the presidency from Jonathan or
to have power “returned” to the
north”

“The APC gets much of its strength
from tap- ping into anti-Jonathan
sentiments in the Muslim north and
grievances among the Yoruba who feel
that the Jonathan administration has
ignored them in key political
appointments.”

The Report also indicated that the
APC’s strategy is hinged on a
combination of popular votes from
the North West, North East and “the
battleground SouthWest” but also
hinted at the possibility of Bola Ahmed
Tinubu not delivering the region
contrary to speculations.

“What remains to be seen, however, is
whether Bola Tinubu—a former
governor of Lagos State who played a
pivotal role in the formation of the
APC and is considered to be the
party’s strongest mobi- lizer in the
southwest—will be very enthusias- tic
in delivering the battleground
southwest to the APC during the
elections.”

“Tinubu indicated his interest in being
the party’s vice presidential candidate
but being a Muslim like Buhari, the
party’s strategists felt that a Muslim-
Muslim ticket might offend Christians
and cement the PDP’s labeling of the
APC as an Islamic party.”

On President Jonathan’s performance:
“despite Boko Haram—the country is
thriving: The economy continues to
grow and—with the re- basing of its
GDP—became the largest econo- my
in Africa and the 26th largest in the
world. Jonathan’s supporters also
point to his success in containing the
Ebola virus, which earned him
commendations from countries and
institutions around the world.”

The Brookings Report also identified
factors such as incumbency and
numerical control of States where PDP
has 21 States and APC only 14 as
giving PDP an edge.

“The greatest strength of the ruling
PDP is its “power of incumbency,” and
all the institutional support that goes
with it. Not only does it have federal
resources to use as patronage, it also
controls key institutions”

The report advised that all efforts
should be deployed to ensure a free,
fair and transparent elections and to
avoid a meltdown as post-election
violence seems very likely.

“Post-election violence is therefore
likely in the north if the APC loses
while renewed militancy in the restive
Niger Delta is likely if Jonathan does.”
the report noted.

Okay... Try to follow up everything. He collapsed during campaign. He forgot Osinbajo's name. He personally thinks he can stabilise oil prize. He is over 73.

Follow him up since he is your role model. We know it's only the old who forgets easily, but for you to want to attribute that to the youths also stems from sentiment.

How can you allow sentiment becloud your jugdement and prevent you from seeing signs of old age?

In the face of the excess political campaigns and activities, no healthy man will suddenly forget a name he has been frequently mentioning for the past one-month. IT'S LIKE YOU WORKING ON A RESEARCH PROJECT AND SUDDENLY FORGET THE TOPIC.

Will you also say anyone can collapse? He collapsed during camapaign, and has been showing funny signs ahead of the future. Yet you say anyone.

As a myopic leader of tomorrow, you can stick to him. But always present rational arguments.

PoliticsMutiny: Open Letter To President Jonathan GCFR by Babare(op): 5:41pm On Jan 06, 2015
CORRUPTION HAS EATEN DEEP INTO THE MILITARY AND THE BLOOD OF INNOCENT MEN MAY BE SHED TO COVER THE WRONGS. THIS IS AN OPEN LETTER OF A CONCERNED NIGERIAN WHO BELIEVES - JUST LIKE THE UNITED NATIONS - THAT THESE SOLDIERS MUST NOT BE KILLED.

THE LETTER IS ADDRESSED TO THE GRAND COMMANDER, PRESIDENT JONATHAN.

SIR: I do not intend to write a lengthy letter or go political in the process. My concern is for the 54 Nigerian soldiers who have been convicted of mutiny, and sentenced to death by a court martial. It is true that these men were part of the Special Forces division ordered in August to retake three lost towns in Borno State, and that they refused to fight. But following the facts on ground, this is not enough reason to blatantly kill 54 young Nigerians.

On July 9, 2014, after the extremists reportedly killed 26 military personnel and seriously injured 82, the soldiers had demanded to be properly armed – but we were not sure if that happened. And whilst the frontline troops have consistently complained that they lacked weapons and other ammunition needed to face Boko Haram, the insurgents are known to have tanks, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and other heavy weapon. It is obvious that venturing into such combat would have been a suicidal mission for these young men.

In a similar case in September, 12 soldiers were sentenced to death for mutiny after firing on their commanding officer in the northeast city of Maiduguri, where troops are battling against Boko Haram. Since the soldiers have continued to bemoan the non-provision of weapons, it would suffice to say that there must be an atom of truth in what they are saying.

I (with other passionate Nigerians) appeal to you to intervene and help save the lives of these young men. It will be grave injustice to kill soldiers who made a legitimate demand for equipment to fight the insurgents.

Sir, 54 Nigerian families shouldn’t be deprived their joy anytime soon. Alongside other 43 soldiers on trial and those previously sentenced to death, let justice on the part of the military be tempered with mercy. We shouldn’t lose more Nigerians on the altar of Boko Haram. I trust your right and merciful decisions on such matter, and I look up to it now. These men will prove to be assets to the Nigerian military on the long run. Nigeria must not shed their blood.

As it is God’s will, we will eventually defeat Boko Haram and tell the success story in the future.

Thank you Mr. President.

Tunisian has just elected an 88 year old man as President. Age is a number. If a 90 year old man can put all the looters in jail, clear the mess of Jonathan then there is no reason why I would not vote for Buhari. In fact it is better to vote an aged man who is one foot to his grave than a young Nigerian man who would embark on a debauchery regime of increasing his harem of wives. The Obama's and the Cameron's of this world, in their society infidelity is not condone in any way and manner let alone taking a 2nd and 3rd wife.

And I would advise Buhari to put Bakere in charge of the EFCC when he wins the next elections. cool
