However, the Northern parts of the equator, according to today's map, are where you have the most prosperous/first-world countries - while the poorest/third-world countries occupy the Southern parts. Also, when you look at every continent, the Northern parts are also more prosperous/stable than the Southern parts. So ya hypothesis is way off.
