Blade Runner: Blackout 2022


An anime short movie that serves as one of the prequels to the Blade Runner 2049 movies.

Blade Runner (1982)


Synopsis: Rick Deckard, an ex-policeman, becomes a special agent with a mission to exterminate a group of violent androids. As he starts getting deeper into his mission, he questions his own identity.

I can't really rate this movie because I cannot apply modern standards. For example the CGI was quite decent imo even in today's standards...so I guess possibly impressive for a 1982 movie

The practical effects however seemed poor...e.g glass shattering looked so fake even to the most unobservant viewer

The dialogue for the most part was good, but sometimes it felt like everyone was speaking like a poet.

Also for the story, I kinda expected a plot twist that Deckard would actually be revealed to be a replicant himself but I was wrong.
Personally I feel by today's standards, the story was okay. Not the masterpiece people were claiming but okay.

The themes it explores is where it shines actually. It focused on the morality of killing these so called replicants. Just because they were not human, does that mean they deserve to be killed? Most just wanted to survive, they just wanted freedom. The killing wasn't even called killing but retirement.
The replicants didn't make themselves, humans did. And once humans didn't have use for them, they chose to dispose of them


It actually makes you question who exactly are the bad guys? Are the replicants really evil? They didn't chose to be made.

There is also the question about the impact of implanting memories in these replicants.
What really makes a person? Is it our memories that makes us alive? That makes us human?


I think the movie asks a lot of questions, with even some of the replicants questioning who they really are. And I'm glad Deckard began to empathize more with the replicants. He started to humanize them and even fell in love with one.

Btw the first kissing scene between Deckard and that replicant would never fly in today's media. Woke activists would have attacked his approach as being forceful.
They would have said he was sèxually assaulting and forcing them female replicant...they will liken it to the white-male privilege

But she ends up causing a riot in other SILOs. And season 2 focuses on another SILO

Drops of God episode 1 is a solid 7/10 for me.
Just one episode and i am hooked already.
This is a Japanese series about wine and wine testing.

A very wealthy man who owned a multi Million dollars company died and in his will, he stated that the person that will inherit his wine company, between his only daughter and his god son.
They must fine test a wine and then tell which flavour the wine is made of.

The series is mad mehn!!!!!!!!
Funny enough, the daughter has an alcohol allergy.

Nickshrapnel, remember while we were discussing earlier this year and I said I ain't confident in this project and I feel it won't do well as many people were anticipating. The nostalgia bait like Cruise effect on Top Gun they were expecting might not be met.

Has there ever been a solid live action adaptation of these materials? I've never seen one. The only movie whose trailer I can recall seeing was Ghost in the Shell, and when it dropped reviews said it was average as fûck.

Honestly I can't remember much about the GOTS Hollywood movie. I watched it before I saw the anime so I couldn't really compare.
But I enjoyed watching it tho...it didn't seem as bad as people said

I think people hated GOTS cos of the white washing and the fact that they compared it to the anime


It's very hard to replicate anime in live action. Even the Asians themselves haven't had much success in replicating anime to japanese movies/series...only few I've seen that do it well... because the anime medium is just more expressive...
I've seen only a few good ones like Prison school, Rurouini Kenshin, Boys over Flowers, Death Note, Kingdom, Alice in Borderlands, City Hunter


For Hollywood, the problem is even far greater.
The biggest issue imo is cultural difference and difference in storytelling techniques.
The way the anime medium tells story is far different from how it's done in Hollywood. It's not just an animation thing...

Compare anime to Western animation. The way both mediums work is so different. Even the so-called adult animation in the west feels so different from anime.

The use of dialogue, music etc is so different. Music is a great part of the anime medium but not so much in the west.

Most Western production have average musical score, only very few exceptions, and even those only have at most 1 or 2 memorable osts...
Music in Western media is so much behind Asian media...
I personally hate most of the scores used in Superhero movies
The scores are usually so cringe.... except a few ones like The Batman, Dark Knight etc



Despite anime being extremely vast and diverse in its own way, it's still so much different from Western entertainment...

Hollywood directors when they adapt, try to change things to fit what Western audiences are used to. They end up with dialogue that is far from the rich ones used in the anime.

E.g look at the One Piece trailer. Luffy saying something like "I'm sensing some tension right here" is absolute crap. That's a dialogue written by someone who has consumed too much marvel content...and not something the actual Character would say
