Everyone vs. Every One The usage of these words (one is a word, the other is a compound word) in day to day expressions have often remain confusing for some Speakers/learners of the Second langauge (L2). It is suffice to say that the pronoun 'everyone' may be replaced by everybody in some cases. It is used to refer to all the people in a group thereby addressed as a whole. However, when written as two words, "every + one = every one" emphasizes each individual who makes up a group, and it means each person. As used for example, a) Every one of you will attend the dinner (every one is followed by 'of') b) It is left to everyone to make Nigeria a better place Happy Sunday I KNOW WHY YOUR MOTHER CRIES (Collection of Poems) drops this month on Okadabooks & Amazon. The book is forwarded by notable Nigerian poet cum literary giant; Professsor Hope Eghagha Send me a DM to pre-order your copy & share this post if you love my craft. Let it reach the ends of the world. #BadiruKehinde #IKWYMC

PATRIOTISM: A PANACEA FOR NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY Two moments are significant in a man's life; one, the moment he refuses to speak good and the other is the moment he remains silent. These two moments are of importance to life as said if done for the right purpose. However, Nigerians have been found in a recurrent whirlpool of ill-speaking of their dear nation. There is a proverb that the owner of a luggage should know how to carry it with vigour more than anyone else. This scenario is seen in American politics as well as the neo-democratic French nation with the win of the new president; Bacon. More so, an average American is always concerned about what he/she would do for America rather than what America would do. Sadly, such an attitude is almost missing in the hearts of many so called citizens in Nigeria. George William Curtis wrote; "A man's country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle and patriotism is loyalty to that principle". Patriotism is the conscious attempt of sustaining that principle. Patriotism therefore in a simple term means a devoted love, support and defense of one's country as well as national loyalty. The euphoria that came with the independence of 1960 was soon threatened by ethnic sentiments and the political malaise that emerged in the post-colonial era. The delusion caused was rather intentional as the nation was led by leaders who had soon changed from patriots to despots and sit-tights office leaders. This thorn in the flesh of the motherland had swallowed the seeds needed to grow the Nigerian dream. Courage, determination and positive imagination when not adequate amongs citizens of a nation would always result into a failed patriotism. Nigeria and Nigerians has always been threatened by the evils of ethnicity, civil strive, tribal sentiments, mismanagement and corruption the master of all. Even at this time when the nation's head is incapacitated by ailment(s) that have become unannounced till day with different conspiracies, the people of Nigeria are faced with the doubt that democracy really is a stronghold in Nigeria. The inadequate level of patriotism in Nigeria has made the nation lose value within and even in the international community. Patriotism which is a love for one’s country and a desire to make her better still remains a sham in the country with many becoming apolitical due to the failed promises of the government. Nigeria's democracy at this delicate point in time needs nothing more than patriotism. Nigeria's democracy at this time needs a strong spirit of patriotism. We must roll our strength in one ball all in the cause of raising our mother land. As patriots, we must love, support and defend her interest with devotion. We must be ready to sacrifice dedicating wholeheartedly to the one vision of progress and unity. Patriotism is recognizing when our nation is wrong and fighting to correct the wrong.Nigerian youths should rise up, take an inspiration from the French democracy, American nationalism and the emerging Asian Tigers. Corruption should not be seen as a means to an end. Rather than run for personal wealth and inordinate desires, we can use the same strength to work out a new developmental plan for the nation. Like John Maxwell said, leadership is not positional but relational. Nigerian youths especially must be ready to make recommendations for our dear nation, oust all corrupt leaders while forming a new nation. However, sadly, the same youths have been carried away with the wave of technology not using it to the benefit of themselves and their nation. But, there is hope, Nigeria will rise again. Happy democracy day. To this end, James Bry ce said; Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong. I believe this is what should actually be done. written by BADIRU KEHINDE http://www.hub201.com/patriotism-a-panacea-for-nigerias-democracy/ cc: Seun, Lalasticlala

Stormyweather:Dear stormy weather, it appears the weather is too stormy for you where you are. But if not as your alias implies, quote me and show me what a poem looks like. I only shared experiences which is largely personal. However, read more on poetry and understand what a poem should look like. |
----MAMI MARKET---- Get thrilled by the cheerful sounds Of tired but happy corp members Who had just concluded the parade of the day. Like ants they descend into your sugar. Mind you, if the display of kilishi, barbecue and ice cream do not attract you, the scary screams of soldiers giving the next orders will. Yet, if that doesn't shake your veins, Then 'remove head gear' would. Women and youths welcoming warmly, With hands open and recurrent phrases; 'Photocopy, divine charging, purity photography'. One would ask, what market is as sweet as this? That can bring smile to the face of already tired Corp members. And to the rich folks, Who are always ready to take the unsuspecting chick to Mami market. He buys her a plate of food, Crying inside, as his heart reminds him that all he has taken for the day is a satchel of water. Mami market is like mothers, No matter how strict, the more we love them. The prices of things only remains a phrase in the hearts of some. They will never pay a visit to Mami market. ©BadiruKehinde #Badirukehinde

Although, connection matters but GRACE IS STILL THERE for those who trust in the Lord. There may no be jobs or few, yet, God always reserves a slot for those who trust in Him rather than hope in man's promises that can fail. ON WORKERS’ DAY: WHAT ARE YOU WORKING FOR? If you expected this question to go rather that way (points), sorry it goes this way (points again). You are slightly shocked? I know. Nigeria celebrates her May Day today. The May Day as promoted by the International Workers’ Day is to ensure that workers/labourers/employees and employers all over the world celebrate the value of work, themselves while reviewing labour laws. May Day also known as Labour Day is an official holiday in several countries and unofficially celebrated in many more. Mind you, employers, business owners and investors have nothing to rest for. They get working with strategic orders that they give to employees, they keep thinking around the clock and about the next move. They relax and enjoy the values that accrue to them via corporations, invest in different deals and watch their financial/wealth column grow. Beautifully sad, you are a worker, you keep working, yes! You get the reward, credit, promotions, vacations (if available for your kind of work), and hang-outs, get to attend a ball and what have you. However, the harder you work, the more you make someone else richer. Many years ago, (eyes roll) actually 3 years ago when I stumbled upon Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad, I changed the way I think towards money, financial intelligence, skill acquisition, influence and life. I had lurked around a friend’s shelf (with his notice though) to get the book. Wikipedia cites that; Rich Dad Poor Dad, a 1997 book written along with Sharon Lechter advocates the importance of financial independence and building wealth through investing, real estate investing, starting and owning businesses, as well as increasing one's financial intelligence to improve one's business and financial aptitude. A lot of unanswered questions has posed a lot of problem to many people and they seem to ask the same way I am asking now; “what are you working for?” I have no business here to explain hint/keynotes from the book. You should get a copy (send me a mail if you need a free copy). Sadly, many workers/employees only have today to rest and their other 364 (5) days is dedicated to growing someone else purse. The time arises one would/should ask, is the time, stress, dedication and commitment worth it. Many of the things people work for are; money, promotion, fame, family, love partner, mentor, value and many more. Of all these, money seem to be the roaring child everyone focuses on, yet it is the most destructive office to set up a chair as well as the wrong track to start your life time race on. The story behind Worker’s Day (off) is laced in bouts of victimization workers had to face from owners of means of production. They were subjected to long working hours, low pay, and value transfer to the bourgeoisies amongst many other ills. Eric chase wrote; “Workers had seen first-hand that Capitalism benefited only their bosses, trading workers' lives for profit. Thousands of men, women and children were dying needlessly every year in the workplace, with life expectancy as low as their early twenties in some industries, and little hope but death of rising out of their destitution. Socialism offered another option”. As this is history, it is not as relevant as what you do today. This will determine years to come which will be wrapped up as history too. Today, I ask what option are you making or taking. To keep this short and wade off any trace of uninteresting tale or bizarre talk. Life is a push the same way our jobs are a pull. Whatever you do, make sure it is your business, build it, invest in promising ideas, get sponsorship and if it appears no one is supportive, keep working, not for money but for fulfillment. They will come back; I mean everyone whose seed you’ve nourished and those who cursed you as a workaholic. And remember to roll over with a smile at your work place, invent ideas, shape your employees thoughts, inspire them and ensure you all are growing together. The secret to success is working not for money, let money work for you as you invest in ideas and influence lives. I leave you with Robert’s words; “don’t get clunged up in a rat-race of working to earn, then spending and paying tax”. The government will smile as officials would sponsor their children’s education abroad, the employer/HR Manager gets richer with your hard work. Remember to face your business and know what you are working for. Don’t react about this post, just think. I am doing the same. Thanks for reading and sharing.
