Literature"An Ode To Garri" (in Praise Of Ikire) by Badirukehinde(op):
"AN ODE TO GARRI" (in Praise of Ikire)

Tapped from cassava,
Rooted into mother earth.

Student's best friend
Even when market women become hoarding agents...

What happens after a long lecture,
Brains emanciated by group works and the sun

Hostel...fotress
Garri...quickest thought on my mind

You make me become friends with other hostel mates,
Who comes for you...

Though you've cuased troubles amongst roomies
Still they settle it with a bowl of you and panla fish

Garri o!!! A wonderful friend...
Decieving even the wealthy and pompous

Who can resisit the 'ijebu' version of you
Long live in my stomach...

Obada market glorifies you
Everyday you are reduced to kongos...

What do I owe you
***purewater and Ikire groundnut

Long Live the queen...Garri

LiteratureRe: The poem of renassance for the motherland "ECHOES OF DREAMS" by Badirukehinde(op): 12:29pm On Oct 01, 2014
Ray360: Well, nice rhymes. But, why didn't you channel your pen into writing something positive? Something to lift the mind amidst the plethora of challenges ravaging the country. The caption alone: "WHY THERE SHOULDN'T BE A CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENCE..." alone is "unhealthy" and too 'mean'. No one would want to welcome something negative in a time of celebration like this. I am open to the truth inherent in your piece, but you could have mixed it up somehow by highlighting the negatives and offering hope and optimism at the tail end of the poem. Check my profile, i dedicated a poem to Nigeria. In my poem, i "sweetened" the ills mitigating against national developement by offering hope and optimism between lines-in-twos that rhyme at the coupling end.

You must buy a bottle of wine for any mode who moves it to the front page.

Good work though!
. Thanks co-penner....I'v modified it a little...you know I'm not that harsh though...its just the love for the motherland...I celebrate Nigeria at every independence... See proof www.badirukehindewrites. you'll see my last year's poem for independence....we all want a change and that's what we sought for...we'll get there...the parlance of first world is just a tip of the iceberg....Nigeria shall rise...long live Nigeria @54 #StillNIGERIAwillrise Thanks once agin bro...

Finally it's here. What you've waited patiently and anticipated for. This is not one of those poem celebrating independence but a poem of reasoning and awareness of where the nation still remains for the past 5 decades...This is a poem of clamour for a better Nigeria,a reawakening of those dreams of our heroes past that have become mere echoes due to what you'll see in the poem. Its a poem of renaissance. For your reading pleasure and sensitization...Enjoy!!!

POEM:*****ECHOES OF DREAMS*****
By Badiru Kehinde and Ademola Adedeji

Our dreams still echoes, though of dreams ,seeings unreal,
In visions of old ,a tale largely untold,
We are forever hoping of forever,
You that may be, in a yonder shatter;
The belly is pregnant with beliefs and hopes,
yet but unseen by the midwives of old,
lies the glory we seek...
Woe to the good intentions and bad decision,
For our hopes and notions negate our reality(sation).

Here, a resounding sound of the drum beat,
This drum beat of dreams and feats to achieve,
...Mere echoes...of those heart desires,
Hindered by the 'Big Bellies' fliers.

The remnants of colonial rule...nationalists,
Whose struggles have been muted,
Our heroes past smiling in tears,
For their dreams that never became history.

Their dreams of unity,
shattered by the North-South bipolarity,
crippled by regional loyalty crisis,
in Ethnicism we never sought to have.

As I gaze on the cloud of poverty,
which gathering on the landform,
All drenched in the rain of illiteracy
and vices did pouring like virtues,
as And notions of education and knowledge fade off,
in the hopes of peace unborn in the womb of terrorism,
Death and destruction crossing the peoples path of individualism,,
Driving away the able agile actives neglecting from land cultivation,
As they set their admiration on Oil and petroleum dealings at the prime of mind's admiration,
...Visions of food security as and yet masses feeding on to starve(ation).

This dream of food security,
With empty...Even the food basket...breeding in pauperscity,
As we wear the tag: Agriculture is prime over Oil becoming just a name,
Yet Crude oil...attracts all the fame.

I see a democracy sulk up by Corruption
eating deep roots of democracy,
Farmers cultivating lands for aristocracy,
Here I stand lonely on a tree and, pondering alone,
As I, watching as we sow the seed of underdevelopment,
Alas born by the child of selfishness and greed,
Largely nurtured depriving others access to the mother's milk.

Ours, The dream of democracy,
Overwhelmed by the joy of 'poketocracy',
With Comrades singing hymns
of embezzlement, an ode to a Swiss account...
At independence, our bulbs are without filaments.

The dream of security...more of nightmares,
Our stories unfolding in fear,
Boko haram...a tale of several forests,
Our Bring back our peace...mere hashtag test.!

LiteraturePOEM "O! Angry Rain" by Badirukehinde(op):
O! Angry Rain

What do I do in times like this,
When your anger has befallen
Upon the noble mother earth

What do I do when condensation has eaten you up,
And all you can do is to rage,
Descendng on trees and leaves
Leaving them in whirls and whispers

the homeless you've made more homeless,
Would you stop falling all day.
Causing erosion and wind

The car you stopped from moving freely
The pregnant woman you made wet
Because he's got no umbrella
Keep falling...Keep tossing those dangling breasts

O! angry rain...

Art, Graphics & VideoUNBELIEVEABLE PORTRAIT PAINTING ART WORK OF PROFESSOR WOLE SOYINKA by Badirukehinde(op): 1:11am On Sep 08, 2014
Potrait Art Work of Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate and Lterary gem; Professor Wole Soyinka. There is a connection between art and literature because they both involve imagination and creativity. He is a great mentor of mine and a blessing to the literary world.some of his works include (Drama) ‘Death and The King’s horseman’ ‘Madman and the Specialists’ (Poetry) ‘Telephone Conversation’, ‘Abiku’ and lots more

This painting was done by my younger brother ALABA BADIRU,a wonderful painter and artist.I have posted some of his art works some time ago on this thread but which did not appear on FP. www.nairaland.com/1562372/portrait-art-work-15-years . I think this is worth a front page material because this is far more than what a young boy of 16 could have done.
Connect with him via babadirualaba@gmail.com
You’ll get to view his other works very soon,he’s still puttng some finishing touches on his blog…I would try to get it across. Thanks

Other notes on Prof. Wole Soyinka Akinwande Oluwole "Wole" Soyinka (Yoruba: Oluwo̩lé S̩óyinká, pronounced "Shoyinka"; born 13 July 1934) is a Nigerian playwright and poet. He was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature,[1] the first African to be so honored.

Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family in Abeokuta. After study in Nigeria and the UK, he worked with the Royal Court Theatre in London. He went on to write plays that were produced in both countries, in theatres and on radio. He took an active role in Nigeria's political history and its struggle for independence from Great Britain. In 1965, he seized the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service studio and broadcast a demand for the cancellation of the Western Nigeria Regional Elections. In 1967 during the Nigerian Civil War, he was arrested by the federal government of General Yakubu Gowon and put in solitary confinement for two years.[2]

Soyinka has strongly criticised many Nigerian military dictators, especially late General Sanni Abacha, as well as other political tyrannies, including the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe. Much of his writing has been concerned with "the oppressive boot and the irrelevance of the colour of the foot that wears it".[3] During the regime of General Sani Abacha (1993–98), Soyinka escaped from Nigeria via the "Nadeco Route" on a motorcycle. Living abroad, mainly in the United States, he was a professor first at Cornell University and then at Emory University in Atlanta, where in 1996 he was appointed Robert W. Woodruff Professor of the Arts. Abacha proclaimed a death sentence against him "in absentia". With civilian rule restored to Nigeria in 1999, Soyinka returned to his nation. He has also taught at the universities of Oxford, Harvard and Yale.[4][5]

From 1975 to 1999, he was a Professor of Comparative Literature at the Obafemi Awolowo University, then called the University of Ife. With civilian rule restored in 1999, he was made professor emeritus.[2] Soyinka has been a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In the fall of 2007 he was appointed Professor in Residence at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, US.[2]

EventsNew Year Resolution by Badirukehinde(op):
NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

"Don't worry about it,Do something about it"...Yea I know you are surprised why I started with that quote. It's just what I wanted to tell you, don't worry over it,just take a bold step and do something about it....2013 has lived life to its fullest,in the sight of God,the year didn't go against God's predestined plan of 52 weeks. The year obeyed God...The question is this;in the sight of God,was our 2013 worth presentable and if He were to grade us,what would be your grade, what would be mine?

Well my dear, never worry about that because GOD doesn't focus on our past,He is more concerned about the future of you & me.That's the more reason why we have NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS.There were some things we outlined & promised to attain by the beginning of 2013,however due to some reasons we were not able to.I want you to know that it is never too late for you.It is never too late for GOD to use you to prove His might to others today.

What NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS should look like;
*It all starts with GOD,We were made by His purpose and for His purpose.Let us focus more on Him this new year.

*Grab your sketch pad, make an outline of the newly positive things you'd want to do in this new year.

*Learn the art of saving...after receiving your personal income, the deduction of tax, payment of thithes and offerings...Remember to leave a part which is meant to be saved,at least if not for transactionary motives but for future/precautionary motives.

*Let your life be a difference this new year,Love more because success is not determined by the quantum of money in our bank account but in how we are able to touch people's lives positively.

*Decide to develop skills, read more because readers are leaders.Never overlook anything, there is a meaning in every trash.

*In our careers & jobs...Let's become different & indispensible.

*There is no chance for carry overs but breakthroughs...I urge you to reach out,go beyond the boundaries, believe in GOD,believe you can do it,believe in the word POSSIBILITY.

I pray GOD gives us the support, strength, grace to have bountiful harvests in 2014...Remember,without HIM we are nothing...This is my first official post for 2014.

heads of them were two hundred;
and all their brethren were at
their commandment.
1 Chronicles 12:32
An understanding of the times
you live in will definitely guide
you on what to do, when it
should be done, what is
important and what is not
important. May God give you an
understanding of the times we
live!
What time is it now? Hosea 10:12
says,
Sow to yourselves in
righteousness, reap in mercy;
break up your fallow ground: for
it is time to seek the LORD, till
he come and rain righteousness
upon you.
It is time to seek the Lord. Many
people have sought prosperity all
their lives only to discover at the
end that it does not satisfy.
Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 says if you
love silver, no matter how much
of it you acquire, you will never
be satisfied. If you are a
billionaire, you cannot take more
than a regular meal at a time;
you will sleep in one room even
if your mansion has 100 rooms;
you cannot wear more than one
dress or pair of shoes at a time,
even if you have a room full of
them. In fact Ecclesiastes 5:12
says too much wealth may rob
the rich of his sleep. When you
get to a certain level of wealth, it
becomes a burden. I have visited
some very rich people and I felt
sorry for them because of the
pain they go through in choosing
what to take at meal time, what
to wear, etc. Do you know that
wealth is transient, it is available
today but can vanish tomorrow
( Proverbs 23:4-5 )? Moreover,
many have sought for power,
fame and position only to find
that they do not satisfy. If you
are the president today,
tomorrow you will be ex-
president. While in school, I
desired to have several degrees
only to later discover that they
do not satisfy. Colossians 3:1-2
says you should stop making
material things your focus. What
are you seeking? It is time to
seek after God. He is the One
who truly satisfies.
KEY POINT
Seeking and finding God should
be your major goal in life. When
this is done, He will help you to
set and achieve all your minor
goals.
