Politics › Supreme Court Faults INEC For Partisan Role In Election Petition Cases by BALLOSKI(op): 1:01am On Feb 27, 2016 |
The Supreme Court on Friday condemned what it described as recent partisan roles played by the Independent National Electoral Commission in election petition cases. A seven-man bench of the apex court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, made this observation while giving reasons for its earlier judgment affirming the election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State. The Supreme Court had upheld the three separate appeals by Ikpeazu, his party, the Peoples Democratic Party; and INEC, in its judgments delivered on February 3, 2016, and fixed today to give the reasons for its decision. The three appellants were all challenging the judgment of the Owerri Division of the Court of Appeal delivered on December 31, 2015, which removed Ikpeazu as governor and declared the All Progressive Grand Alliance’s governorship candidate, Dr. Alex Otti, as the rightful winner of the April 11, 2015 poll. Justice Suleiman Galadima, who read the apex court’s lead judgments in the three separate appeals, upturned the verdict of the Court of Appeal, but took a swipe at INEC while considering the commission’s appeal. He noted, “My lords, permit me to make this comment in the light of the recent events in respect of the stance of the appellant, the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“In election petition, INEC, readily takes over the case of a party who lost at the court below to prosecute the appeal. “This appeal is one such example. Is INEC not expected to be neutral and discharge its duties statutory responsibilities in all electoral matters? “Why does it cry hoarse more than the bereaved? “Based on the notice of appeal, INEC should refrain from doing this as it is capable of impugning its integrity and impartiality.” https://www.today.ng/news/national/85646/supreme-court-faults-inec-for-partisan-role-in-election-petition-cases |

Besides, the shape of a woman's breast determines how firm it will be. Pawpaw and mango shaped breasts will fall quickly, unlike orange shaped bosoms which remain perky for a long time. I know someone whose breasts were still firm after 6 kids because of the shape of her bosoms (orange)
My roomie in the uni doesn't know what it feels like to have firm bosoms because according to her, the boobs grew out and pointed straight down (pawpaw) don't turn me on! |

Flets: [s]Acute Forex shortage is not due to crude oil prices like Buhari and his minions will want us believe.
The biggest cause is the massive capital flight that followed Buhari's lack of economic direction. Nigerians are not aware that investor funds contribute over 60% of our forex supply.
Buhari's cluelessness and dumb attitude towards economy made investors pull their funds out. He further placed monetary policies that caused panic in the investor environment. The plan to fund the national budget with MTN fine was the final nail on investors funds.
Buhari is solely responsible for the very poor state of the economy.[/s]

DeAfricana: i think the writers a trying to make us believe that dolar scarcity, is good for our economy but, the truth of matter is, the other way round.first we dont have the factories, that can service ordinary one tenth of our needs, and to solve that we needs more dolars for equipments and other things. many of all this people you see going to other city to buy goods, is not that those citys, are industrialized, the are just going to people who still have old stocks, and when that finishes, the will have no choice than to start importing .and inflation we be the order of the day are we going to stop existing if we don't have these so "important" goods? Do you know how the likes of Cuba , Libya , Iran , survives in the face of western sanctions? Do you know Palestinians are living in an enclosure, and are still surviving? We couldn't manage our wealth in times of excesses , we should get ready to suffer while trying to get it right. NB: below is what the policy is trying to achieve- a perfect result is the testimony below. “I can’t buy anything abroad presently. If I should buy, my customers may not afford to buy them because the goods will be very expensive.
“Anybody who travels now to buy goods abroad will only waste his money and make losses because it is not advisable to bring imported goods to Nigeria now with the high exchange rate.
“It is better to buy in Kano or Lagos in order to minimise cost. I can’t imagine buying goods abroad at this critical time.” |

Pls wait..... I watched with disgust on NTA this week how our so called Hon minister of works, Mr Fashola commissioned an old locomotive which was taking its first run from Kaduna to Abuja and which I believe had since in the early 80s been dumped by developed countries. Is Nigeria that poor or our leaders are shortsighted to invest in those old rags. Are we not ripe for an express train? doyin okukpe told us that Nigerians are not ripe for modern train . He said this under a pdp government. |

Politics › Re: African Oil Economy Angola's Currency (kwanza) Still 158.83 To The Dollar by BALLOSKI: 8:14am On Feb 20, 2016 |
rusher14: LAGOS — The Nigerian and Angolan governments’ decision to approach the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB) for concessionary loans could lead to a devaluation of the countries’ currencies.
Both countries, Africa’s biggest oil producers, desperately require support to help survive the regime of low crude oil prices and strained public finances.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s government is seeking to spend its way out of an economic crisis triggered by a collapse in oil prices.
Mr Buhari has proposed boosting this year’s budget to a record 6.1-trillion naira ($30.6bn). Nigerian Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun said last month the authorities would borrow about $5bn in external debt from multilateral agencies and the Eurobond market to plug a budget gap of 3-trillion naira.
Legislators in Nigeria’s parliament would begin deliberations this week on the 2016 spending plan, Ms Adeosun said at the weekend. Authorities would begin nondeal roadshow meetings with investors to sound out a potential sale of $1bn of Eurobonds this month, she said.
While discussions were taking place, a formal request had not yet been made to the World Bank for $2.5bn and the AfDB for $1bn, Ms Adeosun said.
"A loan from multilateral lenders would be much cheaper than borrowing on the open market," John Ashbourne, an Africa economist at Capital Economics, said on Monday.
Angola has also held talks with the World Bank about securing funding support in a deal that could see the country implementing unspecified reforms.
The World Bank and other institutions such as the International Monetary Fund have recommended that Nigeria and Angola devalue their currencies.
Devaluation could form part of loan deals, two banking sources said on Monday. Mr Buhari is against devaluing the naira, which trades at about 197/$ officially, compared to street rates as weak as 305/$, while Angola’s kwanza is worth 155/$, but changes hands at more than 400/$ on the secondary market.

Politics › Re: African Oil Economy Angola's Currency (kwanza) Still 158.83 To The Dollar by BALLOSKI: 8:03am On Feb 20, 2016 |
Ofodirinwa: Oil accounts for 50% of GDP in Angola, in comparison to 35% in Nigeria Oil accounts for 90% of export revenue in Angola, 90% in Nigeria Oil accounts for 80% of government revenue in Angola, in comparison to 90% in Nigeria Source: Opec.org
so for all intents and purposes, Angola's currency should be doing the same thing as Nigeria's (crashing without brakes). Because Angola too has failed to diversify (even less diverse than Nigeria) Because Angola too is too depended on oil Because Angola too is an oil economy in the global oil crisis
But the currency in Angola is 158.83 to the dollar and the currency in Nigeria is 358.80 to the dollar
Can we keep blaming the oil crisis, or is it a leadership crisis? before now, what's the equivalence of 1 naira to 1 angolan kwanza? |
