European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Vs Manchester City: EFL Cup Final (0 - 2) On 22nd March 2026 by Banbanna(m): 7:51pm On Mar 22
Thumbs up, Man! Really nice analysis 👍
Rubyjade:
I’d push back on that take a bit—because it simplifies a game that’s usually decided by fine margins.

First, yes, goalkeepers don’t play midfield or attack—but they absolutely influence how a team plays under pressure. A second-choice keeper often changes how comfortable a backline is building from the back, how aggressive the press can be, and even the risk level in possession. That ripple effect can reach midfield and attack indirectly.

Now, comparing City and Arsenal in that scenario: if you’re referring to James Trafford being used by Manchester City, versus Arsenal potentially relying on Kepa Arrizabalaga or another backup—context matters. Not all “second-choice” keepers are equal in experience, chemistry, or tactical fit. A keeper who’s trained longer in a system (like City’s) may execute it more cleanly than a newer or less integrated option.

That said, I agree with your core point: you don’t lose a game solely because of a goalkeeper. Matches are usually decided by:

- Control of midfield (tempo, transitions)
- Efficiency in attack (chance conversion)
- Defensive structure under pressure

If a team dominates possession but lacks penetration or makes poor decisions in the final third, that’s not on the keeper.

On motivation—yes, psychology plays a role. After a tough loss, like City’s criticism following a defeat to Real Madrid, top teams often respond with intensity. But as a intern coach, I’d caution against overplaying the “they wanted it more” narrative. At this level, both teams always want it. The difference is usually in execution, not desire.

So my response would be:

- The goalkeeper situation is a factor—but not an excuse.
- Tactical execution and decision-making matter more.
- Psychological response can sharpen performance, but it doesn’t replace structure and quality.

If Arsenal lost, I’d be asking:
1. Did we control midfield?
2. Did we create enough high-quality chances?
3. Did we manage transitions well? That’s where games are really won or lost.

For those of you using Arsenal's fielding their 2nd choice keeper is an excuse for losing this game, remember that Mancity also fielded their 2nd keeper, Trafford who is not even better than Kepa Arizzabalaga.
No be keeper dey do the midfield and attack work, and all that pressure football. Just that City needed this trophy more than Arsenal since the league seems unlikely to win.

And In a way, Mancity losing scandalously against Madrid and given the way they were criticized and bad-mouthed after that match, those City boys felt they had to make a statement today that they still got it

This life ehn! What goes around, does come around. Everyone gatto chop breakfast one way or another.😊

I remember when for the most part of last year when struggling, abject Manutd team found themselves in this same situation as Chelsea. They were made the butt of jokes just because they were being led by a clueless, mediocre coach who couldn't inspire the team. No thanks to his rigid, defective football tactics/formation.
And to make it worse, they had a goal keeper, Onana, who lacked confidence just as we have now with Sanchez and Jorgensen.

This is a passing turbulent phase though, that Chelsea would definitely outlive when they eventually get it right with the right set of goal keepers, defenders and a top 9.

Not all African proverbs are totally sensible. Including the bolded. What if your father's house doesn't feel like home to you, you're just barely surviving. Wouldn't you find a way out to a better accommodation or home?
Same scenario applies to these Naija folks seeking a way out of this unprecedented economic misery that APC has plunged Nigeria into.

Well, as per this visitor visa thing I almost fell for it out of desperation early last year. It was actually Schengen visa opportunity. I was advised not to go for it as my travel would not be secure since I was not likely coming back.

And just so you know, not everyone who goes abroad on VV indulges in illegal ventures, some, if not most, goes there for clean, honest hustle.
agabusta:
There is an African proverb which says one should not be afraid of his/her father's house.

Those illegals are part of the people giving us a bad name abroad. They should come back home if they do not have papers. I do not support illegality. I do not support anyhowness. If you want to emigrate, do it legally and you'll not have any issues. We should endeavour to be law-abiding and detest anyhowness that has given us a negative name all over the world.

There is nothing like throwing under the bus. A responsible govt will not deny its citizens. A neighbors says he doesn't want your kids in his house and you are still playing hide and seek? Will that not be the highest level of irresponsibility? If a neigbhbor says he doesn't want your kids in his house, the honourable thing to do is to create a reasonable pathway to send the children back home. grin

The UK govt is even behaving responsibly. Some Asian countries will throw their asses back home without any recourse to due process after starving them for some days. cheesy

And they should be thanking RA for doing them the favour of having them knocked of the 2 domestic cup competitions earlier on.😊

And talking about that, would Carrick had performed and gathered as much points if this United team was still engaged in either two or one of the competitions??
I have doubts about that. Next season would really test his capacity if he's eventually made the permanent coach.

Like some people would say, "Football has no memory " .
Most people here don forget how the same Lewandowski was in the Hansi Flick Bayern side that thrashed Barca 8 - 2 at home, A Barca side that was still led by their Argentine talisman, Messi.
For some people, 2020 UCL season feels like a long time ago.

Make una calm down with this bigging up of Barca and la liga. FCB have seen worse results too, let alone lowly Newcastle. At least dem follow Barca hold ground for 1st half but just couldn't sustain that momentum in the 2nd half in the face of Barca pressure.

But then, is it not more respectable being dumped out by those clubs you mentioned than by Gala??
Well, maybe some of us Nigerians coz of their bias for Osimhen would want Gala to dump out LFC.
And it seems you've given up on Slot, no more faith in his tactics for LFC. For your mind, na make Xabi Alonso come takeover as from next season. Which maybe likely come next season.
But for now, you just watch and see. One would never know with football, sometimes comes with surprises.
Wordson:
what's the point of getting pass Galatasaray, only to fall prey to PSG or ATM or even Bayern?

Fans and their frustration 😁😄. Chill out mehn! It's a whole different ball game between EPL and UCL, each with it's own peculiar opponents.
Remember Spurs is still a top club despite their current struggles and they Spurs know they have to slug out the points with Liverpool today to ensure their EPL survival
The Galatasaray you'll be rooting for, aren't even good on the road in UCL.
I doubt if LFC will play like this, on an European night @ Anfield come Wednesday.
Wordson:
Is this team not the worst version of themselves? Just imagine the outcome! Abeg, Make Galatasaray finish the job on Wednesday..
It's better they don't qualify for the next round, than for them to qualify, only to be pummeled by PSG or Bayern.

I am rooting for Galatasaray on Wednesday, period!! NONESENSE!! huh
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Vs Aston Villa (3 - 1) On 15th March 2026 by Banbanna(m): 5:13pm On Mar 15
Maybe making Sesko come off the bench to score for United probably delivers the goods for Carrick than the other way around.
That midfield will definitely miss the impact of Casemiro when he eventually leaves at the end of the season. He's a player really in the form of his life in a United shirt.
United has really done well under Carrick. That they're now 3 points off a team, that they were once 11 points behind at the start of Carrick's tenure, is nothing short of an amazing transformation.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Vs Newcastle (0 - 1) On 14th March 2026 by Banbanna(m): 9:23pm On Mar 14
Well pointed out. It's just like what I said after their humiliating defeat by PSG. That if it was Maresca in their dugout rather than Rosey they would have either won, drawn or lost that game marginally as he would have made the right selection of players and formation, and wouldn't allow his players to take unnecessary risks.
The Chelsea board really doesn't rate the impact and successes of their coach like a team as PSG for instance that still retained their winning coach, Enrique.
Seems they prefer mediocrity that's why they'd preferred a Yes Man like Rosey, who would just go about his business without voicing his concerns.
As far as concerned, na the Chelsea board dey suffer their fans. They're really not ready yet to compete with the big boys, forget their WCC triumph which was really an off season comp.

Seunfretty:
I dont know what you expect the coach to do o....you people had a better coach in Enzo Maresca but una chase am....like it or not Chelsea has gotten themselves a board that will take them years behind....look at this team very well, this project as a team has gone many step behind or can't u all see

Maresca was done with all the crap your owner was throwing at him so he had to find one excuse and bounce....reality should be dawn on Chelsea fans by now that they don't have a squad big and quality enough to fight for anything ....

Not just cos the team lost today ....Newcastle of all team was able to rest many players today and come play Chelsea away and still won ...Arsenal rotated their squad and got a win...but Chelsea played almost all players that started against PSG on Tuesday....why?? ..cos we have no debt ..injury asides .can you trust the pairing of tosin and badiashile against a fast Newcastle??...Neto was rubbish and couldn't have done much

I still don't understand how Chelsea owners believe they can compete with a team full of average players and toddlers ...where is the quality....Chelsea has no quality ...it even feel worse in attack that we need to hope for a cole palmer that was a squad player in city to come help us compete .....

The most annoying part is every start of the season it feels like the squad is big but by January it shrinks....why did the chelsea board sign falcundo...why did they sign dusbryhall....this are players that aren't on Chelsea's level by any length byr were signed to come do whathuh

The project of signing young players to increase their value now seem to be a failed project cos most of this boys aren't even playing...who will buy them ??

Chelsea fans should channel their anger on the board....look at every top team in that top 3..do u have their quality...Maresca was so good to have even drilled so much out of this team
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Vs Everton (2 - 0) On 14th March 2026 by Banbanna(m): 8:59pm On Mar 14
And amongst those 7 remaining fixtures, there are 3 London derbies, which are kinda tricky. Well, they just have to grind out results from those matches, they're too close to the title to lose any momentum.
Na ahead, ahead e suppose be until they get there.

Well, na Chelsea dey do themselves. How can you change a coach that won you 2 trophies within a short space of time for some unknown rookie coach wey go dey do Yes Sir dey follow them? If Maresca was still there maybe this result would have been unlikely despite PSG having revenge on their mind.
And PSG still has their winning coach, Enrique. Betting against this team not to go beyond CFC is a risky thing to do though.

Omo, this na sweet revenge o for Psg for their 3 zero loss @ the CWC final. Just when I thought 4-2 was bad enough for Chelsea, PSG just had to make it 5-2 to get that 3 goal cushion and to make it look like Chelsea are in solidarity with their london sister club Tottenham that got walloped by Athleci Madrid by the same scoreline.

Chelsea get some serious goal keeper crises. I doubt whether Sanchez would have bungled this match like Jorgensen did.
Playing blindly from the back go soon finish this team kpatakpata. They seem not to use common sense considering the opposition.

Interesting to see all the home teams defeating the away teams by 3 goal scoreline apart from Leverkusen vs Arsenal

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Bayer Leverkusen Vs Arsenal: UCL (1 - 1) On 11th March 2026 by Banbanna(m): 8:52pm On Mar 11
And their unbeaten run in the UCL continues.... That Madueke guy just keep raising his game since he joined Arsenal. This is a player most Arsenal fans didn't even fancy. He's no longer underappreciated like he was at CFC.
Well, Arsenal should finish off Leverkusen @ Emirate. Their game was too blunt tonight, hardly any clear cut chances
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Newcastle United Vs Barcelona: UCL (1 - 1) On 10th March 2026 by Banbanna(m): 10:32pm On Mar 10
It seems the club recruitment team didn't do a proper check on his coaching career so far, coz he's made them worse defensively by always playing 3 @ the back. He's made the team even more vulnerable, for a team that's so low in confidence for that matter. I don't think Thomas Frank would have performed so poorly like this man, Tudor. Not even a single draw. Just pathetic.

And btw, if you say a battered club like Tottenham is being humiliated, what about Atalanta that's not even struggling but are being hammered @ home by Bayern 4 nil 🤔😁.

As for Newcastle, poor finishing wan finish dem against Barca. They should be beating FCB with the number of chances they've created.
Angelfrost:
Igor Tudor shouldn't be allowed to enter the dressing room at halftime...!

He should just be escorted out to the airport under heavy security.

3 goals conceded within 16 minutes is a new low... Even for a battered club and team like Spurs. Haba!!!

If you say Maguire is useless, what about that Amala player, Malacia that played Shaw's position and was just dribbled easily by Will Osula before scoring that wonder goal that was so worthy of a match winner??

United really has to do away with some of their average players next season while managing to secure top 4 position with them.
And maybe it was just meant to be for Carrick to end his unbeaten run to a club of his home town, Newcastle.🤔😊

Manutd just had to get even with Everton after losing to them @ Old Trafford under Amorim by the same scoreline.
Btw, I don't know how long Carrick is going to keep using his most informed goal scorer, Sesko from the bench.
This super sub thing seems to be working out so far. Perhaps Carrick thinks Sesko could be burned out playing the full 90 minutes.

Well, make Everton go use their 10 corner kicks versus Manutd 1 corner take go console themselves tonight. They were just bullies on the field and weren't playing proper football, especially Tarkowski, their captain.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Tottenham Hotspur Vs Arsenal (1 - 4) On 22nd February 2026 by Banbanna(m): 8:21pm On Feb 22
With the way Eze is going about his scoring streak against Spurs, a time would come when Arsenal would rather play 50% fit Eze than 100% Odegaard against Spurs. No wonder he came on to replace Eze far into the 2nd half.

AFC should just build on this Spurs win and keep going. This Epl still theirs to lose..
On the other hand, I dey feel for Spurs sha. It's like another dejavu like last season. Doing well in Europe but fumbling in EPL. I hope they survive EPL like last season.

It was always going to be tough for Newcastle to get at least a point at Manchester City's home turf. They're always on the losing side.
Seems Mancity is really now back on the title race with just 2 points separating them from AFC.
Arsenal fans will now be hoping that the new manager bounce of Igor Tudor does not inspire Tottenham to stop them Arsenal to get the title saving points.
This fixture is so ill-timed for Arsenal. Off all teams to face, Tottenham their City arch rival. Well, you'll never know with this Arsenal team, dem fit surprise person 😊🤔
RomanceRe: Why Are Many 30 & 40 Something Year-Olds Unmarried These Days? by Banbanna(m): 10:26pm On Feb 21
I don't quite understand why most people think marriage provides some security against old age loneliness, disregarding this point you've made about the possibility of either of the partners passing away.

My sister told me about a Deacon in her church. The man is now in his mid 70s. He lost his wife about 30 years ago and never remarried. He's a pensioner and most of his kids are abroad doing well. And he is doing well by himself. He has maids and assistants to help whenever needed.
My point is, you can afford to live alone without feeling lonely. It's all about one's mindset and state of consciousness.
Acidosis:
But most people in Nigeria don't get to experience old age, do they?

It takes a great deal of grace and 'connection' to see 70–80-year-old couples still together these days. Either they're separated, both die at some point, or one dies and leaves the other behind. Somehow, the one left behind always survives one way or another, which makes your theory invalid.

You don't have to look too far. Look at your family, your inlaws, and your church. Do you know any 70–80-year-old couples still vibing together as one family?
