Sepp Blatter says he will resign as president of football's governing body Fifa amid a corruption scandal.
In announcing his exit, the 79-year-old Swiss has called an extraordinary Fifa congress "as soon as possible" to elect a new president.
Blatter was re-elected last week, despite seven top Fifa officials being arrested two days before the vote as part of a US prosecution.
But he said: "My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody."
Fifa was rocked last week by the arrests on charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering as part of a US prosecution that also indicted 14 people.
A separate criminal investigation into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were allocated is also under way.
"I am very much linked to Fifa and its interests. Those interests are dear to me and this is why I am taking this decision," added Blatter.
"What counts most to me is the institute of Fifa and football around the world.

John Kerry breaks leg in biking accident in
Europe
He will cut short his diplomatic trip and return home for
treatment.

Secretary of State John Kerry broke his right femur in
a bicycling accident in France on Sunday and is
returning to the U.S. for treatment, scuttling the final
parts of a multistop diplomatic trip that has already
included meeting with Iranian nuclear negotiators.
Kerry was listed in stable condition and didn’t lose
consciousness after the morning incident in Scionzier,
France, according to a statement from State
Department spokesman John Kirby.
Paramedics and a physician were with the 71-year-old
as part of his motorcade, but he was eventually flown
via medical helicopter to a hospital in Geneva.
Because Kerry’s leg injury is near the site of an earlier
hip replacement, the secretary will fly back to Boston
to “seek treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital
with his doctor who did the prior surgery,” Kirby
said.
Kerry will return to the U.S. on “an aircraft outfitted
to ensure he remains comfortable and stable
throughout the flight,” the spokesman added. “Its use
is nothing more than a prudent medical step on the
advice of physicians.”

Kerry was originally supposed to return to the U.S. on
Sunday evening, but after further consultation decided
to stay overnight in Switzerland and fly back Monday,
Kirby said in a later statement. He added that Kerry is
“in great spirits and active. He has done a range of
phone calls including with the president?.”
Bicycling is a favorite pastime for Kerry, who engages
in the recreational sport even on his many overseas
trips.
The diplomat held a round of talks with Iranian
leaders in Geneva on Saturday ahead of a June 30
deadline to reach an agreement to curb Tehran’s
nuclear program. Kerry has been a key member of the
six-nation team working toward a deal with Iran, for
which a preliminary framework was unveiled in early
April.
It was not immediately clear how his injury would
affect his participation in those often intense and
controversial discussions as the deadline nears.
Kerry was scheduled to be in Madrid later Sunday and
on Monday, before heading to Paris for an
international meeting Tuesday on countering the
Islamic State group. Kirby said Kerry would participate
in the Paris meeting remotely and stressed that he “is
expected to make a full recovery.”

Most people have believed that earthquakes cannot happen
in Nigeria. The recent report released by the Building
Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG) says otherwise.
According to the President of Building Collapse Prevention
Guild (BCPG), Bldr. Kunle Awobodu, the country has
experienced several tremor incidents in 1933, 1939, 1964,
1984, 1990, 1994, 1997, 2000 and 2009.
He said the government and relevant authorities should put
preventive measures in place, so as not to be caught
napping.
To buttress his point, he cited the geological report that
revealed a fault zone along Zungeru.
Calling on the incoming administration to act on the
geological report, he said “To be forewarned is to be
forearmed. The portentous signs are obvious. All efforts
must be geared towards saving the nation from enormous
calamity in the event of earthquake in future. Construction
of bungalows should be encouraged at places where
standard in higher structures could not be guaranteed.
Design and construction of earthquake resistant buildings
that possess adequate lateral load resisting systems
should be promoted. A reliable mechanism for construction
inspection should be instituted, if possible by outsourcing.
Developers should be made to employ adequate number of
qualified building professionals. Being proactive today is
cheaper and saves huge losses in the future. Let the
government invest in prevention by demolishing defective
buildings for regeneration and ensure quality control of
materials and labour force on sites, guided by prompt
implementation of the National Building Code.”
He also decried the use of unqualified builders to execute
construction jobs, stating that the influx of quacks in the
