It did. If it didn't and Kinzhal destroyed Patriot then Kyiv would be rubble right now. But as we speak Kyiv is still intercepting missiles above Kyiv.

in other words, you are advocating that Nigeria should remain a local champion without any international influence that could create enemies, without any say in any important world event shocked. When you have influence in world politics, you are bound to make enemies, when you are a real economic giant unlike the paper giant we claim in Africa, you are bound to make enemies. Bakassi peninsula was given to Cameroun because the world powers saw Nigeria incapable of fighting to protect it from being stolen from her. Gulf of guinea doesn't belong to anybody because Nigeria has no capability to claim it as her own shocked. A country that knows its salt must be capable of defending itself militarily from both internal and external forces, advocating for only internal defensive capabilities is a mentality for a country that wants to remain at the bottom shocked

There's nothing Nigeria could field short of nuclear weapons that the United Nations Security Council would fear. If you like, have hundreds of SAM sites, fighter jets etc. Go and ask Iraq what it suffered when it tried to steal Kuwaiti oil fields and the Americans decided to go to war. They were destroyed. If Nigeria wants to fight Cameroon, no problem. But there's nothing you'd field that would make France run away.

David Sling, Arrow 2 and 3 aren't built to handle hypersonic threat. And Israel's missile and missile defence programme are built in partnership with US defence companies. Like you said "everything is theoretical" but Iran has unrivaled missile programme in the Middle East.

Because Fattah is likely just similar to Kinzhal or the Iskander - M variant, which are slightly maneuverable at certain trajectories but not at all their flight phases. Thus it could likely could be handled by David Sling as much as Patriot handled Kinzhal.

David Sling interceptors are called Stunner missiles and fly at Mach 7 (anything faster than Mach 5 is theoretically hypersonic) and are incredibly maneuverable, thus would be capable of taking down what Iran or Russia currently offers. I have heard that China DF21 hypersonic maybe a bit more challenging to intercept. But the SkySonic is designed to challenge those futuristic threat.

Just because Iran unveiled hypersonic missile a week ago? Has Israel tried to build one before even thinking of building a system that can intercept it. undecided
.

How does Iran know it can outsmart Isreali air defence. Have they witnessed David Sling, Patriot, Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 in action to know if Fattah can actually blitz through.

Everything is theoretical, but I certainly trust Israel's theory than Iran's theory.

Nigeria has no need for cutting edge defense, we really don't have enemies beyond goat and cow herding terrorists in the north. You don't need f35, s400 to deal with those. All Nigeria's military needs is a military optimised for Insurgency fighting.
With two squadrons of 4th Gen fighters Nigeria becomes a dominant airforce in Sub-Saharan. So let's leave all those expensive gadget to countries who have real battles to fight. Let's focus on infrastructure, economy, healthcare and education.

I was surprised when I saw this on YouTube some hours ago.Unlike the US, one thing Israel doesn't have or can't afford is complacency. They already have the most defended airspace in the world and now they have taken it a giant leap further with this. Israel's David Sljng could take out whatever hypersonic Iran has to offer, but Israel doesn't take chances.

It's interesting they foresaw the gap in hypersonic defense and began this project three years ago and even the US is now interested in this technology.

For people who think Israeli technological edge is because the US supplies them weapons this is your lesson that Israel is a forerunner. The US, Russia and China has nothing close to this technology.

Ukraine claims to have retaken another southeastern village from Russian forces as its counteroffensive gains momentum.

Soldiers held up the Ukrainian flag in Storozheve in the Donetsk region in unverified video footage posted online and the defence minister thanked the 35th Separate Brigade of Marines for regaining control of the village.

It follows Ukraine’s announcements on Sunday that its forces had liberated three villages -- Blahodatne, Neskuchne and Makarivka -- that lie on the edge of Donetsk region next to Zaporizhzhia region. Storozheve is adjacent to Blahodatne.

However, the reported advance, if confirmed, appears modest, with Makarivka about 5 km (3 miles) from what had been the front line. Makarivka is 90 km from the southern rim of the Russian land bridge on the Sea of Azov.

The patriot shot down 18 missiles. Six air launched hypersonics, three ballistic missiles launched from land. And nine cruise missiles from sea. The US patriot fired about 32 missiles to counter the most intense air assault. In the end only three Ukrainians were injured. So the patriot did it's job.

Clearly the Russians are desperate.

For those claiming a patriot is destroyed they likely don't know what patriot is. A patriot has six to nine launchers a radar and fire control unit. Likely one launcher was damaged and could be repaired or replaced.

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine Patriot System Shoots Down Six Hypersonic Missiles by barojana: 7:53pm On May 16, 2023
STORY: Ukraine's military says it destroyed six Russian hypersonic missiles over the skies of Kyiv overnight, out of a volley of 18 aimed at the country.

And, if confirmed it could mark a major demonstration of the effectiveness of its newly deployed Western air defenses against what Russia has previously described as an unstoppable superweapon: called the Kinzhal missile, or Russian for "dagger."

But what is the Kinzhal missile? What makes it supposedly so potent, and what would their purported interception suggest?

These photos are said to show the aftermath of the wreckage falling below. Three people were reportedly injured.

The Kinzhal is said to be able to travel at 10 times the speed of sound, hence the label hypersonic.

Russia's defense ministry says a Kinzhal destroyed a Patriot air defense system in the overnight volley, an American model recently deployed by Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has frequently described the Kinzhal as proof of "next generation" weapons that can take on NATO, with a range of 2,000 miles and the ability to carry a nuclear or conventional warhead.

They were first unveiled to public in 2018. This footage from Russia's defense ministry shows them launching from a fighter aircraft. Russia says it used them for the first time in Ukraine last year and has only acknowledged their use on a few occasions.

Earlier this month Ukraine claimed it shot one down over the capital for the first time, using one of those Patriot air defense systems.

Previously the ability for Patriots to intercept Kinzhals was only theoretical. Hitting six at once would suggest it could be a reliable defense, rather than just a lucky shot.

The Kinzhal is not Russia's only hypersonic weapon. It also possesses a hypersonic cruise missile called the Zircon, which can be deployed by naval ships.

Russia has bought market.

How can all your neighbours hate and fear you so much that they seek protection from an ally thousands of kilometers away?

Russia has a lot to learn from the US still. The US keeps its neighbours in N/America so safe that many of them remain under invested in their military because they know they are under the US nuclear umbrella. If the US were the threat many conspiracy theorists call it, Mexico and Canada would have armed themselves to the teeth or sought protection from China or the Soviets. But Mexico today doesn't see a need for a proper military.

Today, America's NORAD protect the skies of Canada.

Russia learn to be a good neighbour. You alone invaded Finland and stole 10% of their lands, invaded and occupied Georgia, invaded and occupied Moldova, invaded and occupied Ukraine and still occupies the Kuril island by Japan.

Foreign Affairs / NATO Announces It Will Admit Ukraine As Member by barojana: 9:15pm On Apr 21, 2023
All NATO allies have agreed that Ukraine will become a member, says secretary general Jens Stoltenberg.

Speaking ahead of a meeting of the Ukraine defence contact group at Ramstein air base in Germany, he also told reporters that, once the war in Ukraine ends, Kyiv must have "the deterrence to prevent new attacks".

He said that the main focus is now to ensure the country prevails against Russia.

It comes after Mr Stoltenberg yesterday pledged continued support for the country during his first visit to Kyiv since Russia's invasion just over a year ago.

"Let me be clear, Ukraine's rightful place is in the Euro-Atlantic family," he told a news conference.

"Ukraine's rightful place is in NATO."

'Ukraine’s rightful place is in NATO' Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that preventing Ukraine from joining NATO remains one of the goals of what Moscow calls its "special military operation."

He said that Ukraine's accession would pose a "serious, significant threat to our country, to our country's security".

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier this year that he was grateful for an invitation into the alliance, but said his country needs a roadmap for becoming a member.

In May, Finland joined the alliance, setting aside years of military nonalignment, in order to seek protection under the organisation's security umbrella after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The country's accession dealt a major political blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin as it doubled the size of NATO's border with the nation.

Neighbouring Sweden is also expected to join, but so far Turkey has blocked its approval due to "security concerns".

NATO allies have trained tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops and provided €65bn (£57bn) of military aid alone.

On Friday, the Canadian government announced a further $28.9m (£23.3m) in military aid that will include 40 sniper rifles, 16 radio sets and a donation to a NATO fund to help Kyiv in the war.

A day earlier, both Denmark and the Netherlands said they plan to provide Ukraine with at least another 14 refurbished Leopard 2 battle tanks by early 2024 - tanks that the country pleaded Western nations for, in order to give its forces the firepower they need to retake occupied territory.
