Education / Top 5 Hoaxes That Would Leave You On The Fence by Barondenigeria: 12:58pm On Dec 08, 2018 |
Michael Goddard Some people think that there’s always some element of truth in rumors no matter how absurd they might seem. Well, check out our list of top 5 hoaxes and rest assured you’ll question your belief. Photo credit- vectorstock 5. NASA’s moon landings Since the 1970s, the moon landing conspiracies have gained traction among Americans. Many accuse the American space agency NASA of collaborating with the government in 6 faked manned landings from 1969-1972. Photo credit- space.com Photo credit- daily star Conspiracy theorists still manage to sustain public interest in their claims despite evidences that the landings actually took place. Opinon surveys have also revealed that 20% of sampled Americans and 28% of sampled Russians believe the NASA moon landings were faked. In 1980, the flat earth society claimed the landings were staged by Hollywood with a Walt Disney sponsorship acting a script by Athur C Ckarke and directed by Stanley Kubrick. Furhermore in 2001, Fox television’s documentary “did we land on the moon”? Claimed NASA staged the first moon landing of 1969 to win the space race. Did NASA truly land on the moon? Well; we’ll never know! 4. The Piltdown mystery Since the discovery of the Piltdown skull in 1912, for decades the fossil was a subject of scientific controversy. However, on the 21st of November 1953 the decades long strife was eventually put to rest. Photo credit- History.com Prehistoric fossils have always been common to Africa (East and South) and some parts of Mainland Europe, but never to the British Isle. So when in 1912, a purported ancestor of man emerged with the discovery of the Piltdown skull in the south of England, many scientists had their doubts. However the mystery remained unsolved until the 1920s when archaeologists began discovering remains of ancestors in the human evolutionary chain but Piltdown never fitted in. Finaly in 1953, Paleontologists were able to provide irrefutable fact about the truth of the Piltdown hoax. Thanks to carbon dating, It was eventually discovered that the skull was made up of fragments of a 50,000 year old cranium, the jaw of an Orangutan and the tooth of a Chimp! Of course the hoax perpetrators were never discovered. 3. Hitler’s Diary In what might seem to appear as a peep into the deepest thoughts of one of the world’s most hated monster, the German general interest magazine “Stern” announced its acquisition of a 60 volume collection of the infamous “Hitler’s Diary” in 1983. Photo credit- dailymail.co.uk Enthusiasts and readers alike were agog as to what the earliest thoughts of the father of Nazism were, but experts were sceptical. Prior to the announcement of the fake, the German magazine editors were more than convinced after British 3rd Reich expert Baron Dacre allegedly confirmed the diary’s authenticity. The truth emerged when American handwriting expert “Charles Hamilton” having studied the document pronounced them obvious forgeries. Stern’s publisher Henri Nanen eventually resigned once one of the magazine’s junior reporter admitted to have purchased the fake from a German calligrapher in Stuttgart. The forger immediately fled the country once the truth came to light. 2. Area 51 Conspiracy theorists have always held that the US air force base at area 51 is a storage site for crashed allien spacecraft, this is for some reasons due to the alleged sighting of unidentified flying objects around the base. Photo credit- History.com However, like Orson Welles’s claim of alliens singling out “New Jersey” for invasion, conspiracy theorists have not provided enough reasons as to why alliens choose to be sighted often around some field 150 miles from Las Vegas Nevada! At a nearby air force base, Nellis airfield, the US government develops advanced aircraft and weapons systems like stealth bombers and reconnaissance planes, hence the area is classified for “national security”. This fact has further fuelled the theory that the government is indeed hiding something! https://liberpolis.

Business / Qatar To Withdraw From OPEC In January by Barondenigeria: 7:38am On Dec 03, 2018 |
Qatar will withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), an organisation of 15 oil producing countries that account for almost half of the world's oil production. The announcement was made by Qatar's Energy Minister Saad Sherida al-Kaabi on Monday and was then confirmed by Qatar Petroleum, the country's state oil company. Speaking at a news conference in Doha, al-Kaabi said "the withdrawal decision reflects Qatar's desire to focus its efforts on plans to develop and increase its natural gas production from 77 million tons per year to 110 million tons in the coming years. "Qatar has worked diligently during the past few years to develop a future strategy based on growth and expansion, both in its activities at home and abroad. It took the President and the military so long to release an official statement on the Metele attack because they were permutating all sort of lies and hoodwink for an outright denial of that incident. The evidence is just overwhelming, that's why they can't get away with it. The most dispiriting part is to think that some Nigerians still support the Buhari administration! Politics / Boko Haram Kidnaps 50 Loggers In Gambori by Barondenigeria: 8:08am On Nov 23, 2018 |
Breaking news... Boko Haram jihadists abducted around 50 loggers near the northeastern Nigerian town of Gamboru close to the border with Cameroon, civilian militia and residents told AFP Thursday. The hostages who are mostly from a camp for people displaced by jihadist violence were on Saturday rounded up by fighters loyal to factional leader Abubakar Shekau while collecting wood at Bulakesa village, 25 kilometres (15 miles) from Gamboru in Borno state. “The men were rounded up and taken away by Boko Haram insurgents and nothing has been heard from them,” militia leader Umar Kachalla said. “Two of the loggers escaped and returned home and broke the news. We don’t have a precise number of those taken but usually the loggers move in a group of more than 50 men,” Kachalla said. The loggers were encouraged to venture deep into the bush to collect firewood by a recent military operation that pushed the jihadists out of the area, another militia Shehu Mada said. Last month troops dislodged the militants from the nearby town of Wulgo and surrounding areas following incessant attacks on loggers. “The general assumption was that the insurgents had left the area only to suddenly appear and encircle the loggers,” Mada said. Some of the loggers joined the team to collect metals from the shells of vehicles destroyed in the military offensive against the fighters, he said. “We believe the number of the those abducted exceeds 50,” said Gamboru resident Babagana Musa. The story was slow to emerge due to limited communications with Gamboru residents. The area has for several years been without telecom facilities following the destruction of telecom masts in Boko Haram attacks, forcing residents to rely on Cameroon mobile phone networks. Gamboru loggers have suffered repeated Boko Haram attacks and abductions especially around Wulgo forest which was a known Boko Haram hideout. In April Boko Haram militants gunned down 18 loggers at the edge of Wulgo forest, 15 kilometres from Gamboru, while returning from collecting wood. In January at least 31 loggers went missing and were believed to have been abducted by the jihadists near Wulgo, where 10 loggers were killed two weeks earlier. Boko Haram’s eight-year insurgency against the government of Nigeria has spilled into neighbouring Niger, Chad and Cameroon, killing around 27,000 people and displacing 1.8 million. In 2014, in a case that shocked the world, Boko Haram gunmen seized 276 girls aged 12 to 17 from a secondary school in the remote town of Chibok, also in Borno state. Most of those displaced by the unrest rely on food handouts from aid agencies while others have turned to felling trees in the arid region for firewood which they sell to buy food. The jihadists have increasingly targeted loggers and farmers, accusing them of spying and passing information to the military and the local militia fighting them. On Monday the jihadists killed nine farmers and abducted 12 others when they opened fire as they worked on their fields outside Mammanti village, near the regional capital Maiduguri. In August 2014 the group seized Gamboru, a trading hub, along with the neighbouring town of Ngala. Nigerian troops retook both towns in September 2015 with the help of Chadian forces following offensives lasting months. Despite the recapture of the area which saw residents moving back, Boko Haram fighters continue to launch sporadic attacks, ambushing troops and vehicles, as well as attacking and abducting farmers. https://www.msn.com/en-xl/africa/africa-top-stories/boko-haram-kidnaps-50-loggers-in-nigeria-civilian-militia/ar-BBQ0p7h?li=BBKhQr3

So earlier today I was at my department to see my supervisor, to be very honest I was not even out to look for any gist mans just wanna graduate and leave school. That’s how I started hearing shouts o , it was coming from the vendors shop where they sell drinks, photocopy and print out files. First of all I started looking for my phone to capture whatever it was because its not normal for people to be just shouting anyhow. That’s how I found my phone and as I looked up , my eyes caught a glimpse of something that looked like a crocodile because it was greenish and it had this long tail that went up!…ah you people I put my phone inside my bag and took several steps back wards. It was trying to escape so it was jumping on people and there is no way that thing would jump on me on top say I wan write gist for una. It sha escaped, my heart was still doing gbim gbim and trust me when one of the men around came back with it dead ,blood oozing from its mouth my heart beat faster than the drums they would use to wake up the gods somewhere in the eastern part of the country. This thing is huge!!! When they brought it back dead, the shouts of people got the attention of my H.O.D and then she came down to have a look at it. They actually carried the thing to her like a peace offering, she looked at it once and said it was a reptile called iguana (as per she too smart na). I quickly looked it up on google and google said it was harmless, first of all that is google and secondly this iguana is Nigerian bred there is no way that thing can be harmless!..
