West Ham fans voted 'The Post' as Man of the Match after their win over Hull following a string of fine saves at London Stadium.

Mark Noble scored West Ham's winner with 14 minutes remaining with a penalty after Tom Huddlestone had brought down Michail Antonio, but Hull could have been out of sight if it were not for the woodwork.


In the first half, after Dieumerci Mbokani was put through on goal by Aaron Cresswell's poor backpass, the Congolese striker was denied by the inside of the post, before Noble's header towards his own goal deflected off the bottom of the post in the second half having beaten Darren Randolph.


Minutes later, Andrew Robertson's fine effort cannoned off the inside of the post and clear, before West Ham got their winner in the latter stages.


Despite Cheikhou Kouyate being named man of the match inside the London Stadium, West Ham ran a Twitter vote post-game, including Kouyate, Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and 'The Post'.

The Post ran out the clear winner, with 57 per cent of the vote with 4,724 votes in total.


Mike Phelan admits his Hull side should have been out of sight long before West Ham stole the win.

"I wouldn't say the penalty cost us the game as we should have been out of sight before then," he said.


"Everything that could have happened against a football team happened to us. We probably won't see anything like that again this season.

"Performances like that should at some point merit results. But we've been in the game long enough to know that when opportunities come along like that you have to be ruthless."
